Gun Opinion
I have never been the type of person to really voice my opinion because of fear of people
either slamming it down or laughing at my opinions. After the discussion Friday in class I now
know that I am not alone in my opinion on guns. I grew up in a house where we did not own
guns, my dad did not hunt or feel the need to have a gun for protection. This probably has shaped
my opinion on guns, but after doing the research for this class I still stand by my opinion and
have learned the other side of the debate.
I think there must be stricter gun legislation for me to feel safer and I will feel safer for
when I have kids and sending them to school. The countless numbers of people who have had
their lives taken from gun violence is truly sickening. To solve the problem of guns I feel that
there must be better background checks, the people buying a gun should be have their mental
background checked thoroughly. I do not see how this arises problems, people who purchase
guns are buying an object that can kill another human being. I also believe that there should be
update mental checks because just because one day you are mentally sane does not mean you are
always going to be that way. I do not believe anyone needs to own a machine gun for any reason.
People threw the idea of protecting themselves from the government, I just do not stand for that
and allowing people to purchase machine guns is not safe, because letting a machine gun into the

hands of a mentally unstable person is a death sentence for harmless victims. Lastly, I think there
must be background checks at gun shows. This is appalling to me that this not already a law.
How is it possible to go to a show and walk out with a gun, no questions asked?
These things, I feel, need to happen. Will they happen? Gun advocates claim that these
options above strip them of their rights, my question is simple: what about the rights stripped of
the people who lost their lives in gun shootings?
