1. Warming up
Name Explanation
Guess the
picture
In this warming up one of the students must go to the board and
start drawing a picture, while he is drawing his/her classmates
must guess what the picture is before he/she end the draw. The
student that guess the picture is the following person to start
drawing. The objective of this game is break-ice between
students and teacher, and that they can start the class more
relaxed.
Chain
fairytale
This warming up consist in students start a story in a piece of
paper, they will have one minute to write the first part of the story
(one or two sentences). When the time is over the students must
change their stories, the teacher will give another minute to
continue the story of their classmates, when this minute is over,
the students must fold the paper to cover the first sentence and
in this way the next person just can read the last sentences. the
student must do the same exercise three or four times more. To
end this activity one of the students can read the story in front of
the class. The objective of this warming up is that the students
can strengthen their writing abilities in a funny way.
Simon says
For this warming up students must be stand. After that the
teacher says the phrase “Simon says…” and says an action like
jump, and all the students must do it. The student that does not
do the action should sit down. After that the teacher repeat the
phrase but with a different action like scream, and the children
must do it. Is good doing this for four or five times, so the
students get relaxed and start the class in a better way. The
objective of this warming up is to strengthen the listening abilities
of the students.
Don’t say yes
or no
In this warming up teacher must divide the class in two groups.
After that the first member of group 1 must ask a question to one
person of the group 2 if the person answer without saying yes or
no he/she can continue and ask a question to one person of the
group one, and so on. If one of the person answers saying yes
or no, his/her group lose the game. The goal of this warming up
is that students practice the speaking ability.
2. Data
Manipulation
For this warming up teacher must write a topic or concept on the
board and students must draw what they understand about the
topic or concept. Like in the phrase "A picture is worth a
thousand words" students can show what they know about the
topic by drawing. The objective of this warming up is that teacher
get an idea of what students know about the topic and that
students can be more motivated and interested in the topic of the
class.
Telephone
In this warming up students must be sitting one next to each
other. Teacher will whisper a sentence to the first student and
he/she must whisper the sentence that he/she hears to the
student next to his/her, and so on. At the end, the final student
must to write on the board what he/she heard and teacher writes
the initial sentence and compares them. This is a listening and
pronunciation activity, so the objective is to practice speaking
and listening ability.
