1. Case analysis
Case 3:
Carlos came with a history of violence from the preceding year. I was warned by
his former teacher that he was the worst in the school: brandishing knives, serious
aggression, repeated suspensions, etc. My first belief is that a teacher should
never let history set a kid up for failure before you get to know him, so we started
with a clean slate.
The first thing that I must have in mind is that I cannot judge him without know him,
I cannot base my behavior with him during the class in the comments of another
teachers. I must start from scratch with him, I need to observe how is his behavior
during my class, like all the students, try to know him and gain his trust. In the case
that any violent behaviors occur during my class, I must be prepared for it and try
to act following the school protocols used in this kind of situation. After that
happened I need to find a moment to talk with him, to try to discover and
understand what are his reasons to act in that way and offered him my help to
solve the problem (maybe with visits to the psychology, with interviews with his
parents or guardian, visits to the counsellor, depending what he needs) for this
reason I need to gain his trust first because is easier to help him if he trust in me
and in this way he will accept my help.
