Great Sphinx of Giza
The Sphinx of Giza is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. The body of a lion with the head of a king comes
from the Egyptian culture symbolizing strength and wisdom. The sphinx is a carved out of the living rock. Egyptologists believe that the sphinx was
built in 2500 BC in the fourth dynasty. From the north side the profile of the Sphinx reveals the proportion of the body to the head. It would appear
as though the head is small in proportion to the body. Because of the changing desert terrain, the body of the Sphinx has been buried several times
over the past several thousand years. Most recently in 1905, the sand has been cleared away to expose the magnitude and beauty of the entirety of...

The eyes are very big and open because of the blue eye liner that was used under the eye lids. Also, the headdress is much more noticeable on the
Sphinx in Las Vegas because it is colored. Unlike the Sphinx of Giza, the structure of the face is not as conspicuous as the Sphinx in Las Vegas.
There is no color to the face structure such as the eyes and beard and are not carved as well as the Sphinx in Las Vegas . Also, the body of the
Sphinx in Las Vegas looks stronger, and shaped rounder. It catches the eye more than any other sphinx, because of its location and structure. The
two structures were very well built, however due to the fact that the Sphinx in Las Vegas was built just a few years back , it gave the designers the
chance to make the new structure more modern and appealing. They used the old structure of the Sphinx in Giza to create a more modernized copy
of the old one. One of the major differences I notice about the two structure is the color and line. The new object has more carvings in the face and
body. You notice a shine to the Sphinx in Las Vegas, the colors and perfect carvings of the face and paws make it a perfect sculpture to look at. I
chose the historical object of the Sphinx in Giza because it is unlike the pyramids, it was carved out of the living rock. It is an extraordinary object and
one of the best know monuments in Egyptian architecture. The Luxor hotel might

Notes On The ' Rise Ra Out Of The Horizon '
I chisel away at the limestone; I am writing on a tablet. It reads "Rise Ra out of the horizon". I was ordered by Pharaoh Khafre to make this tablet, it
will be soon used in a temple to honor the great god of the sun, Ra. Pharaoh Khafre worships Ra more than any other Pharaoh we have had in the past.
He is trying to ensure that there is harmony between people and nature. He plans to build a great monument for us to worship the god Ra in. A great
pyramid is in the works of being built as well, this pyramid will be similar to his father Pharaoh Khufu's and will be his final resting place. I am a
scribe, meaning I know how to read and write in our language. My job is to inscribe temples, tablets or any other thing I am asked to. These letters
I am writing are called hieroglyphics and we only use them when we talk to or about the gods, they are a religious alphabet we use to honor them.
Our everyday writing is called hieratics and it is mainly used for business, administration and keeping records on papyrus, our form of paper, it is
reed flattened out. I do enjoy my job; I am not dragging limestone for distances or slaving away building pyramids or temples for our pharaoh. You
could say that I am of a higher social division. I am not a criminal nor am I severely poor, these people are our slaves. They break their backs doing
hard manual labor for our Pharaoh. There is also a group of citizens that voluntarily do hard labor, these are not extremely poor but are not rich either.

Sphinx Of Giza Essay
A lot of people become amazed when they see how majestic the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx are. Have people ever thought of how or why those
huge monuments were built? These structures, which had an important role in history, now become a great form of tourism for Egypt. There are a lot
of mysteries regarding the pyramids and the Sphinx, and many humans may not understand some of these things. Why is the peak of the Pyramid of
Giza not completed? Or why isn't Khufu's body in his burial chamber? Not all of those questions have a correct answer. The Great Sphinx and the
pyramids of Egypt have existed since thousands of years ago and were built by Ancient Egyptian Kings mostly to honor and symbolize themselves. Or
do others believe someone else built them and for another reason? The Great Sphinx of Giza, believed to be a national symbol of Egypt, was built to
honor and symbolize Egypt's King during those times. It was built in the Old Kingdom near Cairo in Egypt, during King Khafre's reign. The people
believe that the Sphinx's head contains their King's face, Khafre's. Still other theories suggest that King Khufu might have been the one to build the
Sphinx with his face on its head. This fierce–looking creature is really a combination of the head of a woman and a lion's body. ... Show more content

It was built with around two and a half million limestone blocks, being able to reach a weight of seventy tons. The pyramid was built northern to the
Giza Plateau, ten miles from Cairo. Khufu began the construction of the pyramid, which was meant to be his tomb. A lot of underground passages are
found inside, with the King's burial chamber found in the middle. Khufu's sarcophagus was supposed to be found in his tomb, but it was robbed a
long time ago. The pyramid was not finished since the peak is flat and not pointed. No one knows why, it remains a

Cave Of Forgotten Dreams Analysis
Film Journal 1
Cave of forgotten Dreams In this film, it starts out showing the oldest form of painting which is close to 32,000 years old. The cave in which it is
found is called the Chauvet cave in the south of France after the original discoverer named Jean–Marie Chauvet. In one of the paintings, the bear that
was painted on the wall after the video was paused looked like I could still erase it because it looked like fresh ink. The scientist could confirm its
authenticity because of the material that grew around the painting would take many years to form. For people that used their fingers, the paintings
seemed to look very nice and detailed and had me wonder how horses looked back in that time, because the way they were drawn made them ... Show

In an old story, he once took a liking to a woman named Persephone who was a daughter of Zeus and chose her as his wife out of force. The mother of
Persephone was the goddess of harvest and when her daughter went missing, she forgot her duties and the world almost fell to ruin as she could stop
child bearing and harvesting crops. Hades was able to able to trick Persephone into staying with him for a short time each year and the rest of the time
she can be free to see her mother. The Greek did not want to know or even build temples for Hades as being associated with him would mean being
dead, to Greeks death was bad because we are supposed to keep living one in a way where we are never forgotten. Hades underworld was a mix of
limbo and hell, it is a place you can never see but there are three levels: the Astridel, then a torment dungeon named Tartarus (hell), then there were the
islands of the blessings. In the Astridel, the souls of the living would wonder aimlessly until their judgement times where there was slight suffering in
being nothing. The second level which was Tartarus was a level in the underworld where it was equivalent to hell in the Christian testaments as this is
where all the suffering of souls that offended gods by disobeying the gods. In the Islands of the Blessing, this was heaven essentially, a place where no

Assignment On Stonehenge
Tahir Merchant Natasha Kleit Arts 2A October 31, 2017 Assignment 1 Druids, "Stonehenge", ca. 2250
–1600 BCE, Sandstone rocks I chose Stonehenge
because I find it very fascinating how people during this era had the manpower to move these rocks miles on end and stacking them on top of
eachother. Stonehenge is one of the most popular pieces of art to this day because of the curiosity how these people back then how created such a
site with little to none technology during that era. Stonehenge is made out of earth stones. There are a variety of rocks stacked up on one another to
form this circle like shape. The textures of the rocks are rough. They are very large in size and heavy. Surrounding Stonehenge, there is grass around
the entre circle shape of rocks. There is also a walkway around as well. After looking carefully in the illustration in the textbook, the sun hits the center.
Located in southern England, stonehenge is made of about approximately 100 stones that have been placed upright and placed strategically in a
circular layout. The texture of Stonehenge through the pictures seem to be a very rough surface because of the many thousands of years these rocks
have been placed there. Looking closely at Stonehenge, in direct sunlight you can the ripples that are enhanced through the shadows that give it a very
vivid texture. The shape of Stonehenge is a long rectangular rocks that were placed upright in a circular position. When looking at Stonehenge, not only

Lamassu And Gizeh Research Paper
Nikki Boggs

Research Paper The Lamassu of Sargon and the Great Sphinx of Gizeh were greatly revered in their cultures as each were viewed as both a
religious figure and as a representation of ideals within their cultures. Similarities between the two sculptures vary. Both were mythical creatures that
were hybrids of human faces mixed with various animal bodies. Both sculptures were believed to be powerful protectors of royalty both physically
and spiritually. The lamassu were placed near entrances of palaces or king's quarters, and the sphinx at the base of the Great Pyramid (a pharaoh's
palace in the afterlife) as well as various temples within Egypt.
The lamassu originated in the Assyrian culture and stood as a relief sculpture nearly in the full round at the gate entrance of the Sargon Palace. Standing
at thirteen feet ten inches it was extremely intimidating to those who passed through the gate. Adding to its intimidation was that from any angle the
lamassu statue was viewed from, it always appeared to have at least four legs. It was believed by the Assyrian people to have supernatural powers
that protected the king from sicknesses and curses that might be set upon him by his enemies. It was also believed that the lamassu could come alive
and defend the king if ever an assassin dared to try to kill the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standing as a full round sculpture at sixty five feet high and two hundred and forty feet long, it would have caused any person that stood before it to
feel insignificant. It was carved from sandstone, and has been exposed to the harsh desert climate and conditions of Egypt including sandstorms. Over
the years this structure has been worn down significantly due to being buried by sand and having to be excavated. Different layers of this structure
have deteriorated much faster than others because of the variances in the softness of the sandstone that the sphinx was carved out

Ancient Egypt : The World 's Great Civilizations
Proverb 22:28 and 23:10, "Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set ... Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields
of the fatherless." Back into the ancient Egypt , in order to divide the land and show who owned which part, those large stones were used as landmarks
by most of peoples to divide the land. But regarding to the human nature, some of them were dishonest thieves, if the owner of the house was not
present anymore, they would move the ancient landmark set by their ancestors. Ancient Egypt is one of the world's great civilizations, the best known
for its incredible monumental architecture typified by the pyramids, such as The Great Pyramid of Giza, tombs of pharaohs in the ... Show more content

Most of the pyramids were clearly used as tombs in order to represent that is the gate of the Underworld . For example like The Great Pyramid of Giza
(also called the Khufu 's Pyramid, Pyramid of Khufu, and Pyramid of Cheops), located at the the southwestern suburbs of Cairo area, the reason why
I did a research about this due to the fact that it's the most famous ancient Egyptian monuments, almost all the visitors and Western tourists would
attached by that incredible structure after they been there. The three primary pyramids on the Giza plateau were built over the span of three
generations by the rulers Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Each pyramid included a temple and a long stone causeway, most of them were nearly 1
kilometer in length leading east from plateau to the valley. "The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest and sole remnant of the Seven Wonders of the
Ancient World. Over 2 million blocks of stone were used to construct the pyramid, during a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. The pyramid
is an awe–inspiring 139 meters high making it the largest pyramid in Egypt, although nearby Khafre' s Pyramid appears to be larger as it is build at
a higher elevation." "The Great Pyramid stands witness to the ability of Khufu to lead and coordinate his people. Khufu had several sons and his
immediate successor was his son Djedefre. Curiously, Djedefre also chose to build his pyramid

Creation Myths Research Paper
As humans, we all love to listen to stories, especially when we can easily relate to them. Stories that are about the heroes that are told over and over
again never will bore us or the romantic stories that will melt your heart. Myths are tales that might not be entirely true but can always grab our
attention. Acreation myth is a symbolic story about a certain culture of how the world began and how people adapted to everyday lives (Origin
Beliefs). They are the most common form of myth, found throughout human culture. These myths are a part of the religious traditions as they were
passed down, orally, to the younger generations (Origin Beliefs). They all have multiple versions of the stories because they were passed by word of
mouth. Creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused many people to begin to question his abilities. People didn't fear him or obeyed his laws. They laughed at him and mocked him by
saying "Look at Re! His bones are like silver, his flesh like gold; his hair is the color of lapis lazuli". He had called the gods and goddesses to a
meeting, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut and Nun, to discuss what must be done to those who disobeyed him. Nun told him to send his Eye as his daughter
Sekhmet as well as destruction. Re sent the Eye of Re his daughter Sekhmet, the fiercest of all goddesses, in the form of a lion who had slaughtered all

They used the old structure of the Sphinx in Giza to create a more modernized copy of the old one. One of the major differences I notice about the two structure is the color and line. The new object has more carvings in the face and body. You notice a shine to the Sphinx in Las Vegas, the colors and perfect carvings of the face and paws make it a perfect sculpture to look at. I chose the historical object of the Sphinx in Giza because it is unlike the pyramids, it was carved out of the living rock. It is an extraordinary object and one of the best know monuments in Egyptian architecture. The Luxor hotel might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Notes On The ' Rise Ra Out Of The Horizon ' I chisel away at the limestone; I am writing on a tablet. It reads "Rise Ra out of the horizon". I was ordered by Pharaoh Khafre to make this tablet, it will be soon used in a temple to honor the great god of the sun, Ra. Pharaoh Khafre worships Ra more than any other Pharaoh we have had in the past. He is trying to ensure that there is harmony between people and nature. He plans to build a great monument for us to worship the god Ra in. A great pyramid is in the works of being built as well, this pyramid will be similar to his father Pharaoh Khufu's and will be his final resting place. I am a scribe, meaning I know how to read and write in our language. My job is to inscribe temples, tablets or any other thing I am asked to. These letters I am writing are called hieroglyphics and we only use them when we talk to or about the gods, they are a religious alphabet we use to honor them. Our everyday writing is called hieratics and it is mainly used for business, administration and keeping records on papyrus, our form of paper, it is reed flattened out. I do enjoy my job; I am not dragging limestone for distances or slaving away building pyramids or temples for our pharaoh. You could say that I am of a higher social division. I am not a criminal nor am I severely poor, these people are our slaves. They break their backs doing hard manual labor for our Pharaoh. There is also a group of citizens that voluntarily do hard labor, these are not extremely poor but are not rich either. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a lot of mysteries regarding the pyramids and the Sphinx, and many humans may not understand some of these things. Why is the peak of the Pyramid of Giza not completed? Or why isn't Khufu's body in his burial chamber? Not all of those questions have a correct answer. The Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Egypt have existed since thousands of years ago and were built by Ancient Egyptian Kings mostly to honor and symbolize themselves. Or do others believe someone else built them and for another reason? The Great Sphinx of Giza, believed to be a national symbol of Egypt, was built to honor and symbolize Egypt's King during those times. It was built in the Old Kingdom near Cairo in Egypt, during King Khafre's reign. The people believe that the Sphinx's head contains their King's face, Khafre's. Still other theories suggest that King Khufu might have been the one to build the Sphinx with his face on its head. The cave in which it is found is called the Chauvet cave in the south of France after the original discoverer named Jean–Marie Chauvet. In one of the paintings, the bear that was painted on the wall after the video was paused looked like I could still erase it because it looked like fresh ink. The scientist could confirm its authenticity because of the material that grew around the painting would take many years to form. For people that used their fingers, the paintings seemed to look very nice and detailed and had me wonder how horses looked back in that time, because the way they were drawn made them ... Hades underworld was a mix of limbo and hell, it is a place you can never see but there are three levels: the Astridel, then a torment dungeon named Tartarus (hell), then there were the islands of the blessings. In the Astridel, the souls of the living would wonder aimlessly until their judgement times where there was slight suffering in being nothing. The second level which was Tartarus was a level in the underworld where it was equivalent to hell in the Christian testaments as this is where all the suffering of souls that offended gods by disobeying the gods. • 5. Assignment On Stonehenge Tahir Merchant Natasha Kleit Arts 2A October 31, 2017 Assignment 1 Druids, "Stonehenge", ca. 2250 –1600 BCE, Sandstone rocks I chose Stonehenge because I find it very fascinating how people during this era had the manpower to move these rocks miles on end and stacking them on top of eachother. Stonehenge is one of the most popular pieces of art to this day because of the curiosity how these people back then how created such a site with little to none technology during that era. Stonehenge is made out of earth stones. There are a variety of rocks stacked up on one another to form this circle like shape. The textures of the rocks are rough. They are very large in size and heavy. Surrounding Stonehenge, there is grass around the entre circle shape of rocks. There is also a walkway around as well. After looking carefully in the illustration in the textbook, the sun hits the center. Located in southern England, stonehenge is made of about approximately 100 stones that have been placed upright and placed strategically in a circular layout. The texture of Stonehenge through the pictures seem to be a very rough surface because of the many thousands of years these rocks have been placed there. Looking closely at Stonehenge, in direct sunlight you can the ripples that are enhanced through the shadows that give it a very vivid texture. Lamassu And Gizeh Research Paper Nikki Boggs Dr. Scher 9/27/12 Research Paper The Lamassu of Sargon and the Great Sphinx of Gizeh were greatly revered in their cultures as each were viewed as both a religious figure and as a representation of ideals within their cultures. Similarities between the two sculptures vary. Both were mythical creatures that were hybrids of human faces mixed with various animal bodies. Both sculptures were believed to be powerful protectors of royalty both physically and spiritually. The lamassu were placed near entrances of palaces or king's quarters, and the sphinx at the base of the Great Pyramid (a pharaoh's palace in the afterlife) as well as various temples within Egypt. The lamassu originated in the Assyrian culture and stood as a relief sculpture nearly in the full round at the gate entrance of the Sargon Palace. Standing at thirteen feet ten inches it was extremely intimidating to those who passed through the gate. Adding to its intimidation was that from any angle the lamassu statue was viewed from, it always appeared to have at least four legs. It was believed by the Assyrian people to have supernatural powers that protected the king from sicknesses and curses that might be set upon him by his enemies. It was also believed that the lamassu could come alive and defend the king if ever an assassin dared to try to kill the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over 2 million blocks of stone were used to construct the pyramid, during a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. The pyramid is an awe–inspiring 139 meters high making it the largest pyramid in Egypt, although nearby Khafre' s Pyramid appears to be larger as it is build at a higher elevation."
