International Network of Innovators in Education (INIE) Annual Report.
INIE was established in 2012 through a jointly-funded initiative named REALISE IT (https://www.facebook.com/RealiseIt) by the Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA) and the Organisation for Cooperation, Exchange And Networking among Students (OCEANS) in order to unite their academic programmes’ researchers, practitioners and leaders of education.
INIE provides an opportunity for its members to engage in cross-disciplinary, international cooperation in order to develop new understandings and practices that focus on the advancement of education within the knowledge society, with the central pillar of the network being its orientation towards modern and innovative approaches, methods and practices.

3. The International Network of Innovators in
Education (INIE) (http://www.inie.eu) is a
student and alumni network for early- and
mid-career researchers and practitioners in
the field of education. We support
cross-disciplinary, international cooperation
in order to develop new understandings and
practices that focus on the advancement of
education within the knowledge society, with
an orientation towards modern and
innovative approaches, methods and
practices as the foundation of the network.
4. History
INIE was established as an Erasmus
Mundus Students and Alumni Association
(EMA) network on Education under the
REALISE IT initiative.
It is supported primarily by the DG Education
and Culture of the European Commission
through EMA and crowdfunding campaigns.
The network officially started its activities
in 2012 at the REALISE IT 2 event in Delft,
Netherlands with 6 members.
Its official kick-off was in June 2013 during its
First Annual Conference: Extending
Boundaries in Lisbon, Portugal, which lasted
two days and attracted 45 participants.
The network currently has more than 100
members from 37 countries and it is
developing two international projects that
will have an impact on more than 2,000
students.
5. Vision
To become one of the premier international
networks in the field of Education; by
building a community of practice and being
a reference point for innovation in education
through the development of capacity
building strategies and the design of
sustainable learning.
Mission
To substantially contribute to the field of
education through capacity development
and sustainable learning all around the
world.
Principles
People centered: People at the heart of
what we do. We have a user experience
(UX), design based approach to solve
educational challenges.
Multicultural: We are an international
community and we respect and promote
the diversity of cultures.
Sustainable: Our projects and initiatives
should be viable in the long term and
encourage the involvement of local
experts and communities.
Scalable: All our projects are replicable
and can be adapted to different contexts
and audiences.
6. General Objectives
Enhance the link between young
researchers and practitioners of
innovative education methodologies and
approaches to teaching and learning.
Provide our members a platform to share
ideas, construct knowledge, and develop
their skills through capacity building and
sustainable learning.
Develop innovative projects under the
capacity building and sustainable learning
strategic lines.
Specific Objectives
Organize conferences in which young and
established innovators, researchers and
practitioners meet and share their findings
and experiences.
Contribute to the development of capacities
in Erasmus+ students and alumni by
designing tailor-made e-learning courses.
7. Short Term Activities (2013-2014)
Attracting more members from universities,
companies or international organizations.
Strengthening the links between our
members by building a community of
practice focused on innovation in
education.
Organizing INIE’s annual conference.
Developing fundraising activities to ensure
10,000 euros annually, to cover
conference expenses and to guarantee the
long-term development of the network.
8. Strategic Lines
Capacity Building:
We develop face-to-face and online
professional development events for EMA
and OCEANS in order to foster leadership,
multicultural, technical and emotional
capabilities within members. These events
make it possible for our members to share
innovative ideas and projects in teaching
and learning.
Sustainable Learning:
Self-led initiatives for passionate people.
We believe that Education is the key for the
development of individuals within an
increasingly globalized world. Therefore we
want to leverage the abilities and expertise
of our members to develop international
projects that use innovative solutions in
Education to create a better world.
Projects include an E-learning course on
Multiculturalism, the Social Economy Project and
publications and presentations from Innovative
Project teams.
International Consultancy:
In the long term, INIE members who have
previously developed projects under the
capacity building and sustainable learning
lines will operate as an experienced group
of international consultants.
