2. INTRODUCTION
IATA's Live Animals Regulations (LAR) is the
worldwide standard for transporting live
animals by commercial airlines.
It is a pet, an animal transported for zoological
or agricultural purposes or for any other
reason.
The objective of the LAR is to ensure all
animals are transported safely and humanely
by air.

4. Pets traveling as cargo
Most airlines flying larger aircraft (not
commuter planes) accept live animals as
cargo and have made special provisions for
their handling.
Exceptions to this are Southwest, AirTran,
JetBlue, Frontier, Virgin America, and those
airlines that do not accept pets.
5. Requirements for Pet Cargo
Crates
The pet crate must be large enough for your pet(s) to
stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. snub
nosed will require one size larger than normal for most
airlines that permit them to fly in cargo.
The crate must be made of fiberglass, metal, rigid
plastics, weld metal mesh, solid wood or plywood.
The floor must be solid and leakproof.
Handling space bars or handles must be present on the
long side of the crate.
Both water and food bowls must be attached to the
inside of the front door and be refillable from the outside
of the crate without opening the door
6. Requirements for Pet Cargo
Crates
The container must have ventilation on a
minimum of two sides (domestic flights) and 4
sides (international flights)
The container must have live animal stickers on
the top and sides in letters at least one inch tall as
well as directional stickers.

The container must be identified with you pet's
name and owner's contact information.
7. Sizing Your Pet Crate

The length of the kennel must be
equal to A + 1/2 B. (domestic

10. Regulations
Shipment of females in heat (oestrus) is not recommended
Weaned puppies younger than eight weeks must not be shipped
due to possible dehydration effects in air transportation.
Kittens likewise, younger than 8 weeks must not be shipped dogs &
cats should be shipped during the first two thirds of pregnancy.
During the last one third of pregnancy the chance of abortion or
injury to the fetus increases.
Properly carried in a container/kennel which should be made of
non-chewable material with smooth edges and properly ventilated in
the prescribed size. (Kennel size not to exceed 18" x 18" x 12").
Forklift spacers must be provided when the pet exceeds 132 lbs.

Animals do not normally require additional feeding during 12 hours
following the time of dispatch.
Water must be provided if total journey time exceeds 12 hours.
Care must be taken not to overfill the container.
11. Regulations
If feeding is required due to an unforeseen
delay, meat, biscuits and canned pet food
must be provided but care must be taken not
to overfeed.
Snub-nosed dogs must have the largest
amount of air space available in the hold.
If it is necessary to open the box for any
reason, this must always be done in an
enclosed area in order to prevent the animals
from escaping

14. Documents required
Health certificate from a qualified veterinary doctor.
Letter / certificate from the veterinary doctor stating
the animal’s fitness for carriage by air.
Vaccination / Immunization record with Rabies
vaccination date.
A declaration indemnifying the SpiceJet with the
owner / passenger assuming all the risks of injury,
sickness or death of the pet accepted for carriage, will
be obtained from the passenger.
Other documents may be required, depending on
local regulations.
All documents must be in English, unless otherwise
specified.
