Q2) how does your media product represent particular social groups?
E2 representation of particular social groups
1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
Evaluation Question 2
2. ON THE COVER
THE MODEL
The model I have chosen fits into my
targeted social group. On the cover the
model is sitting on the slide in a park. I
have dressed him in a green parker
coat along with a pair of denim blue
jeans and a beanie, all of them are the
latest style of the season. This helps
represent my target social group, they
would be very likely to be gaining style
tips from the model’s outfit as they are
stereotypically want to be styled like
the model. The model is looking
directly into the camera, making eye
contacts with the readers, this shows
his confidence which can represent my
targeted social group as they are
young adults who are very bold and
brave.
3. ON THE COVER
MISE-EN-SCENE
The mise-en-scene of the cover is
located at a park with equipments such
as swings and slides. I thought by
having my model on the slide, it would
emphasise his positive youthfulness
which can be related to my targeted
social group because they are young
adults between the ages of 16 and 24.
The colour of the image is quite bright,
there are shades of red, yellow and
blue, they are the simplest colours of
all - primary colours. This suggests
that my targeted social group is
stereotypically simple and
straightforward with their positive
attitudes.
4. ON THE COVER
COLOUR + FONT
The colours I have chosen to use are
stereotypically appealing to my
targeted social group. The simplistic
colours are not too bright so it wouldn’t
be too eye straining to look at, this
represents my targeted social group
positively because the majority of them
like to listen to calm, relaxing music
that doesn’t scream into their ears. I
decided to use black and white on the
cover line and masthead because they
tend to be associated with
modernisation, which represents my
targeted social group as they are
positive, young and will be up to date
with their music. The fonts I decided to
use are basic and uncomplicated,
which are easy on the eyes for the
5. ON THE COVER
REPRESENTATION OF THE TARGET
AUDIENCE
My magazine cover represents my target
audience clearly and in a youthful and
positive way. From the fashionable outfit
that my model is wearing to the simplistic
primary colours that are seen in the mise-
en-scene. Not to mention the confident eye
contact from my model. All of these
representations I offer are no doubt
supporting dominant ideas about my
targeted social group.
6. ON THE CONTENTS PAGE
REPRESENTATION OF THE TARGET
AUDIENCE
The models are very active in this contents
page, it shows how energetic they are as
youths, which is relevant to my particular
social group as they are the same age.
They are also wearing the latest fashion
items such as the tartan scarf and green
parka coat which the targeted social group
will also want to keep up to date on. Once
again the colour is very simplistic and the
amount of texts are kept to a minimal
amount so it’s easy for the eyes. All of
these components are strongly supporting
the dominant ideas about my targeted
social group.
7. ON THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
REPRESENTATION OF THE TARGET
AUDIENCE
In comparison to the contents page, the
same models are being passive in this
photograph while holding an instrument
that is representing the target audience.
The acoustic guitar that is being played in
the photo is one of the most used
instruments in indie-pop music, therefore it
represents the audience as they enjoy
listening to that genre of music. The area
of the photograph is larger than the area
for the text because it reflects how the
targeted social audience prefers to look at
photos more than reading the text as
images are visually stimulating. All of these
components are strongly supporting the
dominant ideas about my targeted social
group.
