In 1916 Sophie started her education in Rudolf Laban's School of
Expressionist Dance in Zurich. Together with Laban's Group she
performed at the side of Laban's assistant and dancer Mary
Wigman. Laban's Group took part in summer performances in
„Artists' Colony” at Monte Verita in Ascona.
In 1915 at the exhibition in Tanner Gallery Sophie met dadaist Jean
Arp, who moved to Zurich in 1915 to avoid call up into german army
during First World War. In 1922 Sophie married him and assumed his

Taeuber-Arp
Sophie's Taeubert – Arp contribution in the
development of abstract and geometric school as well
as the significance of her works was overlooked and
underestimated for many years. Yet, later studies and
appraisal of her work bestowed this artist an important
position in the history of XX century Art.
In Sophie's Taeubert – Arp works one can discover the
fascination with painting, architecture, maths, physics,
philosophy, dancing and fashion.
