Es el verbo ser o estar, es el verbo mas importante y
también se le utiliza como auxiliar. En el tiempo
presente, Present tense, lo conjugaremos de la

3. Estos son algunos ejemplos de su uso para indicar el
estado o alguna característica de alguien o algo.
a) Con un sustantivo:
- I am a woman.
- You aren´t a doctor.
- Is she a dancer?
b) Para indicar donde está algo o alguien:
- She´s in China.
- They aren´t at school.
- Is the cat on the chair?
c) Con un adjetivo para hacer una descripción:
- We are happy.
- He isn´t tall.
- Are you hungry?

2) También lo usamos para hablar de algo que está sucediendo en la
actualidad pero no necesariamente cuando hablamos. En este caso, se
utilizan expresiones de tiempo como “currently”, “lately” o “these days”.
1) Para mencionar algo que está pasando en el momento en el que
hablamos.
• They are learning French.
• She is currently looking for a
job.
• Are you taking piano
lesssons lately?

8. • I´m going to the party tonight.
• She isn´t coming to class
tomorrow.
• We´re going on a family trip
next month.
Por ahora solo mencionaremos que hay verbos que no se utilizan en los
tiempos continuos. Entre ellos están: be (ser o estar), want, need, know,
prefer, remember, understand, care, see, hear, smell, believe, belong, cost,
seem, exist, own, like, dislike, love, hate, fear, envy, mind.
3) Usamos el presente continuo para hablar de algo que está ya decidido
que se hará en el futuro próximo. Su uso indica que es bastante seguro que
lo planificado sucederá.
