Using the powerful program Microsoft
Excel can quickly become overwhelming
when it is used to add, edit and calculate
data across multiple columns.
We will learn how Excel’s Freeze Panes
feature is:
Simple to use
Highly effective
Increases data validity
2. Freezing the Column Title
The example shown is a small view
of over 400 students physical
fitness scores. Only 9 students are
able to viewed at one time. It
would be necessary to scroll down
to add or edit additional the
entries.

missing when scrolled down
because they have not been
frozen. It would be very easy to
enter data in the wrong column.

3. Freezing the Column Title
Freezing the Column Title is very
simple.
1. Scroll the data so that the first
row contains your Column Titles
(figure 3)
2. From the Excel Ribbon, select
Freeze Panes from the View tab
3. Select Freeze Top Row

On the next slide, we will verify the
Column Titles are frozen.
4. Freezing the Column Title
Now, scroll down several rows to
verify that row 1 is frozen. It verifies!
The uncertainty of the columns titles
can always be known.
5. Maintaining Data Validity
It is very easy to type the right
information into the wrong column.
Freezing the Column Title is one
method that will help data managers
accurately maintain data validity.
