2. The cathedral beginning by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296,in the same
placewhere was erect the ancient cathedral of Santa Reparta,whose
foundations where bring to the light in recent digs. The work
continued with big interruptions,first under the direction of Giotto,
between 1334 to 1336,and later of Francesco Talentiand Lapo
Ghini.In 1378 was builtthe central nave,in 1380 the sides and
between 1380 and 1421 they builtthe arms of the transept andthe
octogonal drum in which is established the dome.Finally, in 1434
Filippo Brunelleschi completed the cathedral crowning with his
majesticdome,whose proyect was the causeof a lot of discussions. In
1436 the pope Eugenio IV consacrated,dedicating to “Santa Maríadel
Fioire” 

3. In thismonumentalwork existssome styles,theromanicelements
foundwiththegothics,whiletheoctogonaldomeisthe
expresionoftheRenaissanceart.Thefacadeconceive originally
inromanesquestyleby Arnolfoand transformatedlater ingothic
art by F.Talenti,didn´tfinishuntil1887 anditis thework of
EmilianodeFabris.

5. Strictandmajestic,thathas thefloorofa latincross dividedinto
threespacious nave separatedforrobustspillars ofbothstyles,in
whichtheysupport archs andvaults.Themagnificpavimentwas
createdby Baccio d´ Agnolo.
