In this clip right at the start there is only the diegetic sound of Ms Pickwells phone
ringing with no non diegetic sound in the background.
-
After when she picks up the phone the only sound is still diegetic and only the voices of
the people on the phone.
-
As soon as Alfie starts to speak in the style of who wants to be a millionaire a beat in
the background starts to play. This is asynchronous sound as it does not appear to arise
directly from the scene it comes in to build up tension between the two.
-
While Ms Pickwell is going to try and find Alfie you can still hear the non diegetic and
diegetic sound playing together. You can hear Ms Pickwells footsteps as long with the
heartbeat in the background.
-
When Ms Pickwell eventually looks in the classroom to find Alfies class a prank has
been played on her. Straight away you hear the diegetic sound but then a lively
asynchronous song plays in the background encouraging the viewers to laugh and break
up the tension.
-
Then after the prank is heard still while your hearing the diegetic sound of the kids and
alfie laughing you can hear a chicken laughing which is synchronous sound as the
chicken sound is matching the dancing chicken on the screen.
-
Then straight after you hear the theme tune playing and this is non diegetic as it is the
theme tune and not directly in the clip.
