2. MINDSET
FITNESS
Imagine a world where we paid attention
to our mindset fitness as much as we do to
our physical fitness. In the same way that
neglecting our nutrition and physical
exercise can cause health problems,
neglecting mindset fitness can cause
problems with achieving goals, staying the
course, and maintaining resilience when
goals seem overwhelming.
3. MINDSET
FITNESS
WORKOUTS
The workouts in this book are designed to
condition your mind to accept things that
are out of your control, put measures in
place for something you can control and
will help you maintain inner peace and
happiness. Your responses will no longer
be fixed, and you will be able to embrace
your goals and situation wholeheartedly.
4. GOALS,
WILLPOWER &
WAY POWER
Back in 1994, C.R. Snyder published a book
called The Psychology Of Hope. In that
book, he defines hope as “the sum of the
mental willpower and way power that you
have for your goals". The definition has
three key terms: goals, willpower, and way
power. Goals are the destination on a
journey. Willpower is the fuel you'll use to
get there. And the way power is the map
you will need to figure out how to get
there.
5. WILLPOWER
CAN BE
DEVELOPED
In a study by Tom Karp in 2014, he found
that willpower governs acts of leadership.
Willpower is a capability that is part
genetic and which is also possible to
developed. The study found that
willpower is a mental capability, and if
leaders develop their ability to focus their
time and energy, and become more aware
of their feelings, they may improve their
willpower.
6. THE MINDSET
FITNESS
WORKOUT
Mindset fitness workouts are not designed
to be another big task to add to your
already busy day. The idea is to commit to
small workouts often rather than long
sessions occasionally. Each is designed to
take only a few minutes out of your day
and each is prescribed for particular set of
goals you would like to achieve.
7. SELF-
DISCIPLINE IS
A SERIES OF
HABITS
Anyone who has successfully maintained
weight loss would tell you that it's not
about having the willpower to turn away
cookies every day. Rather, it is about
forming habits. Instead of turning away
cookies all the time, create a habit of
finding and enjoying foods that are better
for you and still taste good.
8. COMFORT
ZONES
Optimal anxiety is that place where your
mental productivity and performance
reach their peak. Comfort zones kill
productivity because we don't have that
sense of unease that we get when we have
expectations and deadlines upon us.
Pushing outside your routines and
boundaries helps you find smarter ways to
work and helps you get more done.
9. BURNOUT IS
NOT THE
SAME AS
STRESS
Burnout is the result of unrelenting stress
and cognitive exhaustion, but it isn't the
same as experiencing too much stress.
Stressed people can still imagine
solutions, and feel that once they get
control of the situation, they will no longer
feel stressed. Feelings of stress are feelings
of "too much pressure". Burnout is
different. Burnout creates a feeling of "I
don't have enough". Burned out people
feel empty and exhausted.
10. FLEXIBLE
MINDSETS
Flexibility is a critical skill in an ever-
changing, fast-paced world. If one strategy
fails, you must be ready to try another.
Business leaders must adopt a flexible
mindset to cater to the changing needs of
their customers. Parents must be flexible
in managing their schedules to provide for
their family's needs. Workplaces must be
flexible to meet the changing needs of
their employees.
11. STRONG
MINDEDNESS
To achieve greatness, you must work hard,
engage in learning, push through painful
experiences, and maintain rigorous effort.
This requires strength. Building a strong
mindset also requires deliberate practice.
Numerous studies show that there is an
apparent link between mental strength
and performance. Whether it's in the
workplace, at school or university, or with
sport, mental strength allows people to be
more productive. It also aids people in
being more efficient and more
conscientious of the work they are doing.
12. RESILIENCE
VS
ENDURANCE
People will often confuse endurance with
resilience. The difference between
resilience and endurance is that
endurance is the measure of a person's
stamina or persistence, while resilience is
the mental ability to recover quickly from
setbacks, misfortune, and injury or illness.
Resilience is bouncing back, and then
forward. Endurance is the ability to
continue long afterwards.
13. THE
COMPOSITION
OF YOUR
THOUGHTS
On your journey to achieving your goal,
the composition of your thoughts is going
to take you to the next level. Composition
is about what is present in your mindset
that stops you from achieving your goal.
This could be a lack of confidence. It could
be pessimism. It could be negative people
in your life telling you that you can't
succeed. It could be distractions.
14. CONDITIONING
OUR MINDSETS
To make lasting change and condition
your mind to new patterns of thinking, you
first need to recognise your fixed mental
patterns! Once you have seen and
recognised them, you can recondition
those patterns and leave the old ways of
thinking behind.
15. MAXIMUM
EFFORT
If I asked you to rate on a scale from one to
ten the effort you put into achieving a
recent goal, what would your score be?
Did you achieve the goal? Or did you fall
short?
16. PERSONAL
GROWTH
Making improvements throughout your
life is not about completely reinventing
yourself. Instead, it is about achieving just
a little more. It could mean excelling at
your job or being kind or having a positive
impact on someone's day.
Personal growth helps you get excited
about life and about how far you've come.
I love looking back and comparing who I
am today to who I was yesterday.
17. PERSISTENCE
AND
PERSEVERANCE
Perseverance means acting despite
difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Persistence is your ability to stick with
things. It means finishing what you started
and working hard despite the obstacles
that may arise.
