2. Coming Of Age
We have chosen coming of age as our genre because we think this will be relatable when
focussing on our target audience (teenagers).
The settings we have used are recognisable and therefore makes it more relevant to the
audience and storyline.
We have touched upon issues within society which are often associated with this age group and
can therefore create a personal connection with the viewer.
We have also chosen coming of age as the locations and characters were easy to source. For
example , filming round someone's house is easier than trying to find a spooky location for a
horror film.
3. Storyline
• The story is based on a rebellious teenager (Arabella) who lives with
a prim and proper family and doesn’t agree with their parenting skills
and her upbringing. Throughout the opening scene we see her
transformation from the expected behaviour to the typical rebellious
teenager. The father of the family is very strict and controlling. He
has a tendency to be abusive towards the rest of the family,
especially Arabella. The mother agrees with the father as she is too
scared to stand up to him. Victoria (the younger sister) is an angel in
the parents eyes as she sticks to the rules and respects her family.
The relationship between Victoria and Arabella is rocky and full of
tension.
• Later on in the scene we see Arabella’s antics when she meets a
dodgy character, does a deal and turns up to a party.
• Throughout the rest of the movie we see Arabella struggle with
addiction and family resentment. Things go down hill as her dad
kicks her out and wants no association with her. Arabella becomes
homeless until she finds a safe house.
