Dracula Informative Speech
Researching was never usually my strong suit, especially when I had no idea about what topic to
pursue. As I thought about the various events and people I had read about throughout my life, I
didn't have much interest in any of them. Just when I was about to give up and browse through a list
of research topics online, one name flashed into my mind. Dracula. I had always loved reading and
watching the tales of the fictitious count and I knew the inspiration of the bloodthirsty Dracula was a
Romanian prince named Vlad. However, the legend behind Dracula has always been shrouded in
mystery. That is why I would like to know,"Who was the real Count Dracula?"
What I Know.

His family's sobriquet, or nickname, Dracul, originated from his father Vlad II's induction into The
Order of the Dragon, which was created by the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund to uphold
Christianity in Europe and defend against the Ottoman Empire. Dracul translates to 'son of the
dragon' and was also thought to have meant 'son of the devil.' In 1436, Vlad and his family moved to
Targoviste, Wallachia when Vlad II assumed leadership of the Wallachian voivode, or principality.
Things were rather peaceful until 1442 when Vlad III and his younger brother Radu were taken to
the court of Ottoman Emperor Murad II. The boys were used as collateral to assure that their father,
in a complete reversal of his previous standing and beliefs, would support Ottoman policies without
any resistance. Vlad had been kept in captivity for six years, refusing to become loyal to the
Ottoman Empire and their beliefs. His brother Radu had capitulated, or surrendered, to the Ottomans
a few years before and was now free from their captivity, and following exactly what his brother
refused to the years he had remained in captivity. It is uncertain whether he escaped his prison or
was merely released by the Ottomans. When Vlad returned to his home in 1448, he received the
news that his father and elder brother had been assassinated by Wallachian boyars, or nobles, a year
before his freedom. Vlad then embarked to regain

Vlad The Impaler And What Is His Connection To Count Dracula?
Who is Vlad the Impaler, and what is his connection to Count Dracula?
Was Dracula based on a real living human? Is Bram Stoker's legendary story based on a real person?
Yes, it is entirely possible that Dracula is based on the man known as Vlad III, ruler of Wallachia.
Vlad III was born in 1431. His place of birth is unknown, but he was the 2nd of 4 sons the the ruler
of Wallachia, Vlad II. At a young age Vlad and his brother Radu were taken as prisoners by the
Ottoman Empire to gain their father's loyalty. During this time is Vlad's life, he was tortured by the
Ottomans. The Ottomans knew however, that Vlad could and would one day become leader of
Wallachia, so they tutored him and his brother is science, arts, philosophy, swordsmanship, and
horse riding. While he was with the empire, Vlad's father, Vlad II, was most likely with a group of
people called the Order of the Dragon. They were an elite group of people who protected Christain
interest and would crusade against turks. It was said the Vlad's father was a high ranking member of
this group. Vlad II was ruler of Wallachia, like a king or leader of the people. However not all rulers
hold power for ever, and he and Vlad's older brother was tortured, blinded and killed both in 1447.
This is said to be one of the key turning points in what made Vlad III so cruel and merciless when
giving punishment.
Vlad wanted to be the ruler of Wallachia badly. With Ottoman help he launched

There are longstanding legends in Romania of a man who was cold blooded and blood thirsty, a man
who was practically immortal(Norine). Vlad The Impaler may not have been cold blooded from
berth as many historians would have people believe. Vlad had responsibility thrust upon him that
made him who he was. Eventually he became legend although no one remembers his legend but
instead the legend of Count Dracula To begin with, Vlad was actually thrown into war from the time
he was young. When Vlad was born the country his father rolled over was not in a great economic
state. "...Walachia was in the middle of a power struggle between the Ottoman Empire and the
Kingdom Of Hungary." As king of Wallachia Vlad the second had to manage a kingdom ... Show

Stories of Vlad and the famous legend of Dracula are very similar. One of the many things dracula is
known for is that in the story he drinks the blood of his victims, Vlad was said to have dipped his
bread in the blood of his enemies(Norine). But even though vlad has comparisons to all vampires he
was not thought of that way for many years. "Vlad was never associated with vampirism until stoker
took his name for the novel"(wilde) In fact the name they share is all they truly have in common.
After all it is only on very loose information that they are compared(wilde) In conclusion, Vlad
Tepes was a three time ruler, a fierce warrior ,and the namesake of dracula. He started life in a
country torn by war, started on the path of a warrior reclaiming his rightful place on the throne more
than once, and finally he became legend as the vampire dracula. Some people could argue that vlad
should not need to be known but that is not true he is just as important as other historical

Imagine being impaled, a rod going straight thru you. For Vlads victims this was reality. Why did he
impale people? What drove him to kill so many people? What did he do to strike fear into so many
people's eyes, even the bravest warriors. Vlad the Impaler's real name was Vlad iii. His father was
Vlad Dracul ii. When Vlad was born his father was king of Wallachia,Romania. Which made him
prince, Air to the throne. In Vlads teenage years, he and his brother. Were taken by the Ottomans, as
political hostages. The Ottoman king made a deal with Vlads father, the king of Wallachia. That
Vlads and his brothers fate would depend on the actions of their father. If his father offended the
Ottoman King or launched an attack his sons would be executed with no mercy or a fair trial. The
art of impalement was vlads most common torturing strategies. While in captivity the ottomans were
quite generous. Instead of being locked in a cell the entire time during captivity. The Ottomans
schooled them in standard classes like latin, history, science, and the art of war. The Ottomans also
taught the brothers in swordsmanship. The Ottomans also taught Vlad the art of impalement.

Impalement was his most famous punishment and he tortured thousands of people with it.
"Impalement was initiated by taking an oiled stake about as wide as a burly man's arm, and inserting
it through the victim's buttocks, often until it protruded from their mouths." (Alter Dimensions 9) As
if that wasn't enough Vlad made sure the oiled stake was not too sharp to make sure shock didn't kill
the victims. Set up around the castle were the bodies, and the smell was horrendous throughout the
castle. Vlad thought violence was the answer to misbehavior, so this is what he did. However, Vlad
had more choices of punishments throughout the castle..."Reports indicate that tortures included
nails in the head, cutting off of limbs, strangulation, burning, cutting off of noses and ears,
mutilation of sexual organs, scalping, skinning, exposure to the elements or wild animals, and
boiling persons alive." (Alter Dimensions 12) Vlad was one of the most horrific rulers of all time.
Before victims ended up dying, Vlad made sure they stayed alive for hours, and even days. As

The Negative View Of Vlad The Impaler
The negative view of Vlad the Impaler has stemmed from two factors the view of the Impaler by
western historians and western countries in general, and Bram Stoker's Dracula most western history
books and historians tend to focus more on his deeds than his achievements and triumphs over the
Turkish Ottoman Empire. For example according to a runaway brit article during the middle ages,
there was a German minority living within the region of Transylvania known as the Transylvanian
Saxons. These Germans were mainly merchants who under the reign of Vlad's father were allowed
to trade freely in Wallachia as long as they paid a tax. According to a LiveScience article by Marc
Lallanilla during the reign of the Impaler they stopped paying said tax.

Vlad The Impaler Research Paper
There have been countless tyrants and iron–fisted rulers throughout history. Nero, Hitler, Stalin,
Ivan, Henry, and Elizabeth were just a few tyrants throughout history who have had an insatiable
bloodlust. However, none of them were as terrible and as horrific as Dracula himself, Vlad the
Impaler. He had slaughtered thousands of innocent people, as well as impaled hundreds of those of
whom he saw unfit for his kingdom. Thieves, merchants, and peasants alike were all killed, no
matter how small of a crime they had committed. These tendencies had turned Vlad into one of the
most vicious rulers in history.
Vlad III was born on November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born in a building call
the citadel. The citadel was the main military fortress of Transylvania. Vlad's father was Vlad II and
his mother was Princess Cneajna of Moldavia. Vlad III was not an only child, as he had three
brothers. His older brother Mircea II, his younger brother Radu, and his half–brother Vlad

The Story of Vlad the Impaler's Life
Are you a fan of Vampires or Dracula? I am so I did some research on them, that, and I was told to.
My essay is over the very first vampire Vlad Dracula or more commonly today Vlad the Impaler.
Yes this is going to take a while so hold tight. Vlad was born in Transylvania a very long time ago.
He was a prince of Wallachia for many, many years. He was well known for what he did to the
enemy during the battles he fought in. Vlad was a highly feared person. He was the over taker of
many lands, and villages. Vlad Dracula was a dastardly man who in this seriously long essay I will
explain everything I have the knowledge of. Let's Begin. Vlad Dracula was born to Vlad Dracul and
his mother was a beautiful young Moldavian princess, her name was lost in history. He was born in
the year 1431 in the country of Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born a prince for his father was
from a family of princes in Wallachia (Goldberg & Itzkowitz pg. 18), and of course his mother being
a princess helped. His name Dracula means "little dragon, or little devil". His father was a knight of
Emperor Sigismund. Vlad lived near the front line of defense for this reason alone. When Vlad was
about either 12 or 13 he and his brother Radu were traded to the Turks by their father as hostages as
to keep the treaty of peace between the two countries from ever being broken. While they were
hostages the Turks taught them science and mathematics, and by the end of the four years they were

Vlad the Impaler was a harsh guy.
He was a ruler of Wallachia and he ruled with an iron fist. His real name was Vlad Tepes, but in
English was Vlad the Impaler because of the brutal way he tortured his enemies. Vlad Tepes was a
ruler, an architect, and he got his name by torturing people. Vlad Tepes ruled differently from other
kings. Vlad had strict rules for his country. "Vlad the Impaler ruler Walachia and was very strict."
(Linke 5) He did sick things to the people of Walachia. "If his people were to break his rules, they
would soon regret it." (Pallardy 3) He had a lot of power. "At any time, he could snap and that could
be bad for other people." (Anderson 4) That's how Vlad Tepes ruled Wallachia. Vlad Tepes was also
a very good architect.

Russian pamphlets indicate that Dracula is imprisoned for the period of 1462–1474 in Transylvania.
McNally and Florescu place Dracula's actual period of confinement at about four years from 1462 to
1466. (McNally) During the time, he manages to marry a member of the Hungarian royal family and

Description And Imagery In Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'

Dracula
In the novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses vivid description and imagery to set up a classic
representation of a gothic novel. Although most people know the novel as a telltale story of a
vampire and the many powers he possesses to overtake the innocent. I believe that Stoker portrays
the characters in the novel to formalize a struggle between what they know as reality and what they
experience as delusions of a weakened mental state where many of them question their sanity.
Stoker does this through the characters' encounters with the Count with feelings of insanity,
forgetfulness, trances and imprisonment in order to facilitate Dracula's torment on his victims. ...

Their own citizens fearing for their lives that they may not be killed next in a violent raid or
massacre that these men would often indulge themselves in. Vlad the Impaler earned his famous
tittle during his second period as king. The only form of punishment at this time in Walachia was
impalement, a form of torture/execution where a blunt stake was driven either horizontally or
vertically through the abdomen and erected up so that the persons' own weight would slowly slide
them down the shaft, no matter the crime committed. In one account, in 1462 the invading sultan of
the Ottoman empire arrived at the capital city of Targoviste where he found over twenty thousand
Ottoman prisoners impaled on the outskirts of the city. Vlad left this as a deterrent to invading the
invading Ottomans. Aside from the constant impalements Vlad had a problem with all the poor and

The Monster In Bram Stoker's Dracula
Bram stokers Dracula created in 1897. Now how could someone four hundred and sixty six years
apart be related? Dracula in the novel was born in 1431. Dracula was thought to be his own person,
but he was actually inspired by someone who had more of a gruesome taste for blood. Vlad Tepes
III was also born in 1431 in what is now Transylvania, the central region of Romania.
Vlad was the second son of Vlad Dracula. His name Dracula meaning "son of Dracul" was derived
from the Latin "Draco" meaning dragon. So one of his nicknames was son of the dragon. Since
Dracula's castle was in Transylvania, it was originally thought that Vlad lived in Transylvania, but
the truth is Vlad did not own anything in Transylvania. Vlad had an infamous way of dealing with
his adversaries. He would stick a stake in the ground and put his enemies on it alive to leave them to

Vlad would impale thousands and leave them, it was his calling card. He also used it as a deterrent

captured and tortured numerous times. His father was stripped of his throne by local warlords
hunted down and kill in the swamps of Balteni, Wallachia, in 1447. Vlad's older brother, Micea, was
tortured, blinded, and buried alive. This may have been the reason why Vlad had been so cruel.
Since of his vindictive reasons, it was told that he would drink the blood of his enemies. So his
nickname changed from son of the dragon to son of the devil. Not long after he had killed the
Ottomans prisoners of war in 1462, he had been exiled out of Hungary. He was unable to defeat his
foe Mehmet II, so he had been caught and thrown into prison for years during his exile. During that
time he had married and had two children. In 1457– 1504 he had tried to take back his throne, and

Vlad III was born in 1431, in Sighișoara, Romania. In the same year, future Holy Roman Emperor

Under the Turks, Vlad III and Radu were tutored in science, philosophy and the arts. As a result,

When Vlad was twelve years old he had experienced something that would sculpted his life
completely, and made him become this evil mastermind with no feelings of remorse. When an
officer [approached the bed and made a gesture to the guards. Instantly strong hands put Radu
[Vlad's brother] on his belly, pulling upward to raise his hips as one man applied oil of attar to the
anus that had previously been enlarged by the insertion of ivory pegs. The boys eyes were glistening
with tears now as his buttocks were opened to allow his ravisher full access to him. Murad stripped.
When he mounted Radu and penetrated him, the boy screamed, though more from fright than pain....
Prince Vlad ignored this outrageous sodomizing of his brother. Even when the sultan had finished
and he himself was taken by all three officers in turn, he did the utmost not to let them see his
anguish, not to cry out or release tears which shame and humiliation brought welling into his eyes.
But there was no dignity left him now that it had happened, no maintaining his princely demeanor,
no saving of his honor. There was only the acute sense of fullness to bursting, of being used
unmercifully, of degradation and submission and defeat. It seemed to go on and on eternally, until
sobs were wrung from him and childish curses flung at the damascened wall. And while they did
this to him, commenting obscenely on his surrender and his helplessness, angry

Vlad the Impaler a name said in many variations, Vlad, Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Tepes, and Vlad
Dracula all had the same evil man lurking behind it. A man that has killed about 100,000 people
most of which impaled through the torso with a wooden stake. Vlad's background, reign, and fall
will all be presented through this essay. A very strong factor in why Vlad the Impaler became a
dictator is because of his childhood. Before Vlad was in power his father was king and his older
brother was prince along with him and his younger brother. In the year 1442 Vlad and his younger
brother, Radu, were taken prisoner and sent to Egrigoz Fortress in Anatolia, and Vlad's father was

Vlad Dracula was born in the winter of 1431 in Sighisoura,Transylvania. Vlad's father who is Vlad
II came from a family of princes from the state of Wallacia. In the same year Vlad III was born, his
father traveled to Nuremberg, Germany and became a member of the Order of the Dragon. The
Order of the Dragon was select group of European royalty appointed by the head of the Holy Roman
Empire, Emperor Sigismund ,who held power over most of Western Europe. These men were
dedicated to crusading against the Ottoman Turks, whose faith was Islam, and defending the Empire
in the name of the Cross . Sigismund made Vlad II head of the Order and promised that he would be

In 1441, Hunyadi came to Targoviste and asked Dracul to join in on the holy war . Since it was not
clear to Dracul who had the best chance of winning, he decided to stay neutral. The next year, the
Turks raided Transylvania and Dracul just let them pass through. This infuriated Hunyadi and he had
to fight and chase the Turks back through Wallacia and forced Dracul out of Tirgoviste. Dracul went
back to the Turks but they were not happy with him either and put him in prison. While he was in
jail, he made some promises the the Turks. He pledged to not go to war against the Turks, agreed to
pay a sum of money every year and he would send some of his own Wallacian men to the Turks to
be converted to Islam and trained as soldiers. The one promise that would change the life of Dracula
forever and was forced to keep was giving up Dracula and Radu as hostages. In 1443, Dracul
returned to Targoviste and became Prince of Wallacia while his sons were forced out and traveled
700 miles where they became prisoners of the Ottoman Empire.
The head of the Ottoman Empire at that time was Sultan Murad II, who they ended up living with in

prisoners. They were educated by Turkish tutors who taught them mathematics, philosophy, read the

Research Paper On Vlad The Impaler
Vlad was the Prince of the Wallachian kingdom (also referred as the Voivode of Wallachia, which
means the same) in three different occasions which nowadays doesn't exist, but it was located at the
south of the actual Romania. He achieved the throne after his father was killed. Some quotations of
the Dracula book that I consider as references to the fact that Vlad the Impaler was a prince and a
member of the high class, are the next ones: "It is late, and my people are not available" (page 24).
This quotation may not be a clear one, but I think it is and I am going to explained it: a prince is the
ruler of a kingdom, his kingdom, and the people who lived in his kingdom belongs to him. This is
the case of Vlad the Impaler. So, when in this sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, I have found some web pages that explain the same thought I once had in your class, so I

The last think I want to talk about in this essay is about the movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula" from the
director Francis Ford Coppola. At the beginning of this movie, it is explained how the character of
Dracula became a vampire and it is said that he was a warrior called Draculea, from the Order of the
Dragon, who fought to protect the Christian world. What's more, in the scene where Dracula
welcomes Jonathan Harker into his castle, there is a conversation about a picture hanging in a wall.
Harker asks the Count who is the man on the picture and he tells him that it is an ancestor of him
from the order of the Dragon.
This reference to Vlad the Impaler it is not clear in Bram Stoker's book and what's more, the story of
how Dracula became a vampire it is an invention of the movie

Vlad The Impaler's Dracula
In the Romanian language the name "Dracul" means "Devil." This name was given to a
Transylvanian man named Vlad II by the Order of the Dragon. This was an organization for
Christian nobleman who fought to take down the Ottoman Turks. He won the name by committing
cruel deeds and slaughtering thousands of Turks. His son, Vlad III, took the name "Dracula"
meaning "Son of the Devil" ("Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) Vlad Tepes"). Vlad III lived up to this
title. He became a very powerful Wallachian ruler. Vlad Dracula's rule revealed one of the cruelest,
most merciless leaders in world history. Vlad Dracula's story was interesting from the very
beginning. Vlad was born in the Transylvanian city of Sighisoara in the winter of 1431 ("Vlad The

This was because an epidemic of "vampirism" spread across Eastern Europe at the end of the 17th
century ("Count Dracula's Legend"). The vampire from the book was originally going to be called
"Count Wampyr" but Stoker changed it to Dracula in the end ("Tales of Dracula"). Many historians,
including Elizabeth Miller, believe that this is the only connection between the two. Miller states,
"Whatever Vlad might have been, nowhere is it stated that he was (or was believed to have been) a
vampire. While some of early negative reports aligned Vlad with the devil...this was not a vampiric
association. The word "vampire" was never used in connection with Vlad until long after Bram
Stoker's novel appeared and it became popular to assume (incorrectly) that Vlad was Stoker's
inspiration for his vampire Count." The connection to Vlad Dracula and Count Dracula might only
be the name. Because "Dracula" means "Son of the Devil", it's possible that Stoker just liked the evil
connotations of the name and took it for his book without actually basing his vampire character on

History is sometimes told through stories and this is a fact but sometimes, these stories are not a

topic because I love history and I am very curious about historical characters such as Prince Vlad

As I said before, he is known as Vlad the Impaler (in Romanian is Vlad Tepes) and this has an
explanation. He liked killing and torturing people in artistic ways and one of this, and the most
known, is the impaling of people. He liked to killed enemies by inserting a long stick made of
wooden or metal through his enemies' bodies (the pole usually was inserted on the sexual organs and
it would come out through the neck or the mouth). He also tried to prolong this suffering on the
victims for hours, maybe days, just for his pleasure. Some of the atrocities he committed was when
he celebrated a party where lot of boyars were invited, and he made them all being impaled with
stakes. With the impaled bodies, he made rows (in an artistic way) and this is known as the Forest of
the Impaled. It is known that he liked to take dinner in the middle of the forest of impaled people to
see them suffering until their death. It is a mystery, but it is a story that has been told, that he like to
drink the blood of his victims. However, this has not been

Bram Stroker's Dracula: The Man Behind the Count Essay
Bram Stoker's Dracula is a story of horror, suspense, and repulsion. The main antagonist, Count
Dracula, is depicted as an evil, repulsive creature that ends and perverts life to keep himself alive
and youthful. To most onlookers that may be the case, but most people fail to see one crucial
element to this character. Dracula is a character that, though it may be long gone, was once human,
and thus has many human emotions and motives still within him. Let us delve into these emotions of
a historically based monster. Bram Stoker, our author, was born in Clontarf (an area near Dublin),
Ireland in early November of 1847. He was accomplished in many fields, including athletics, but he

Tepes and his brother were sent to the Turkish Sultan as 'official' hostages a year later, for education
in change for loyalty to the Sultan. During a war with Hungary in 1447, Vlad II Dracul (Dracula's
father) and Tepes's eldest brother were killed by Hungarian assassins. Wallachia was ruled by
Hungary, and the Turks released and gave Tepes an army in order to capture Wallachia. He held the
throne for two months before being forced to run away. He then abandoned Turkish ties and
appealed to Hungary to become Prince of Wallachia. His following rule, though bloody, brought
Romania together like never before. He was made famous by his rule as well since his name "Vlad
the Impaler" came during this rule. He got this name from his use of torture as punishment; his
'favorite' act being using a large wooden stake to impale criminals from the groin to the mouth. Soon
war began again with Turkey and Hungary, and he was removed and regained the throne a third time
before he was killed in a war with the Turks, his head sent to the sultan as proof of his death. Stoker
used this historical basis to build Count Dracula, the now vampirised Vlad III Tepes. It would have
been many years since Tepes's rule over Wallachia, and he would have to hide in Transylvania
discretely. As a few centuries passed, we can assume things were relatively tame for the Impaler, as
he was no longer battling the Turks and impaling

Essay on Bram Stoker's Dracula as a Romantic Myth
Bram Stoker's Dracula as a Romantic Myth
In this paper, I will present my reflections and thoughts on the myth of Dracula in particular, and the
vampyre in general, as a love story and show the deeply rooted links between the two myths and
Christianity, as refracted through the prism of Francis Ford Coppola's film Bram Stoker's Dracula
(1992).
One of the most well known aspects of a vampyre is that it must feed upon the blood of the living;
Dracula must drink to survive, (akin to people drinking the blood of Christ––the blood of divine
life). However, I do not believe that this act of survival should be the basis by which the myth of
Dracula is labeled as horrific and evil. From a mythical perspective, Dracula was simply, to ... Show

Constantinople had fallen. Muslim Turks swept into Europe with a vast superior force, striking at
Rumania, threatening all of Christendom. From Transylvania arose a Rumanian knight of the sacred
"Order of the Dragon", known as Dracula. On the eve of the battle, his bride, Elizabetha, whom he
prized above all things on Earth, knew he must face an insurmountable force, from which he might
never return. (Coppola, 1992)
Dracula is victorious against the Turks. However, seeking a measure of revenge, the Turks shoot an
arrow into his castle, carrying false news of his death. Elisabeta, overcome with grief, hurls herself
into the river from atop the castle ramparts.
The prologue establishes Dracula as a Christian knight, defending God's church and the light of
Christendom from pagan, heathen forces of darkness. It is a fascinating combination of mythic–
religious symbols residing on the extreme eastern edge of 15th century Christian civilization. The
sacred, blessed "Order of the Dragon" is a very pre–Christian symbol of feminine strength and
magic connected with the earth, whose story is beautifully presented by John Boorman in his 1981
film "Excalibur". Dracula, an earthly rooted warrior, swinging a sword in his left hand with
murderous intent, and cradling a crucifix in his right, faithfully devoted to an airy, non–earth
residing God.
The link between the name Dracula and the dragon is interesting.

Bram Stoker's Dracula: A Variation of a Classic Work in...
A woman changes everything; finally there is vindication for the knight who gave up life to avenge

his work, "Bram Stoker's Dracula", reaches beyond the words to prove Dracula was more than a
monster in creating the movie. Coppola focuses on Dracula as a man, as well as a knight, who is
both deeply in love with his church and his bride. The historical elements in the writings of Bram
Stoker come to life more so in Coppola's work with the movie, than in the book. My goal of this
paper is to prove how the differences between the book and the movie are predominantly in the

The word for dragon in Romanian is "drac" and "ul" is the definitive article. Vlad III's father thus

Vlad III Dracula or Vlad the Impaler was born into the noble family of Vlad II Dracul. Vlad II
earned the name after becoming part of the order of the dragon, a Christian military order. The name
Dracula translates to son of Dracul, which is the namesake for the book series assumed to be written

This explanation explains his bloodthirsty desire for torture and agony upon his enemies. In 1448,
Vlad returned with his younger brother after being sent home, he found that Walchian nobles
murdered his father and older brother during the previous year. This was the beginning of the battle
to regain his father's position that would go with him to his grave. Running against the Muslim–
ottoman Empire, He campaigned against his younger brother, and nobles who had killed his father
and brother. Although it appeared he was victorious at one point, it was a failure and was not for
eight years until he finally succeeded. His reign was technically shorter than seven years and was an
off and on due to his unparalleled determination. During this time, everything that Vlad was known
for happened; every violent action, and every victim of his demise fell during this era. By impaling
his enemies on stakes and leaving them to die, he earned his name. He had a rather brutal process;

The Tale Of Dracula, Or The Son Of The Dragon
Countless times the fictional story of the infamous Count Dracula has been told in treatises,
playwrights, novels, and also films. Dracula as a character has such an arduous lifestyle that it is
difficult to decipher between truth and myth. Although the narrative of Count Dracula is viewed as
only fiction, there is accuracy behind the legends. Vlad III's legacy sparked the lore of Count
Dracula because of the scarring childhood he endured, the torturous agony he caused upon others,
and a gruesome war.
Vlad III was born in November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania to Vlad Dracul and Princess
Cneajna of Moldavia. He had an older brother, Mircea, and a younger brother, Radu. In 1431, Vlad

In addition, he directed his loathing to his father and older brother, Mircea, for their unfaithfulness
to the Order of the Dragon. Similarly, he was angry at Radu for leaving Christianity and converting
to the Islamic faith. The years Vlad III spent in captivity taught him many ways of torture and in one
way shaped him into the man he eventually came to be, Vlad the Impaler.
While Vlad Dracul was still on the Wallachian throne, John Hunyadi the Hungarian King, demanded
that Vlad Dracul shall promise to join the crusade against the Turks, but wanting to stay neutral he
sent Mircea instead. " The Christian army was utterly destroyed in the Battle of Varna, John
Hunyadi managed to escape the battle under inglorious conditions. From this moment forward John
Hunyadi was bitterly hostile to Vlad Dracul and Mircea"( Vlad 4). In result to John Hunyadi's
animosity, in 1447, he raided Wallachia and assassinated Vlad Dracul and Mircea with help of
boyars and merchants. Fearing the Hungarians would gain too much influence in Wallachia after the
death of Vlad Dracul, the Ottoman Turks forged ahead to Wallachia and put Vlad III on the throne as
a puppet so the Sultan could pull the strings. Yet within only reigning two months, John Hunyadi
forced him into exile in Moldavia. "Vlad III's successor to the throne...unexpectedly instituted a

Vlad The Impaler's Dracula
Known simply as Vlad III, Vlad the Impaler was the prince of Wallachia during the 15th century of
Romania. He was a much feared leader during his lifetime, as he would execute his enemies through
impalement and was recorded to do this multiple times in several documents. It was through these
written texts that modern historians were able to find out about whom Vlad the Impaler was, and
how the things that he did made him the historical legend that he is today. It is believed that Bram
Stroker's original novel 'Dracula' was inspired by Vlad the Impaler and the events that occurred in
his life. It is a controversy as to whether or not this is true but there are many different explanations
as to whether it is or isn't.

Bulgaria and impaled over 23,000 Turks. Mehmed then raised a great army with the objective to
conquer Wallachia and extend it to his empire. The two leaders fought in many battles and the most
important being The Night Attack where he tried to assassinate him in his sleep.
The assassination was a failure and Mehmed went to the Wallachian capital of Târgovişte, where he

heir to the throne, but it wasn't until 1456, that Vlad Dracula would make his move, killing his

following an Easter Sunday feast, Vlad Dracula had all the boyar families who had been attending

their clothes had fallen off from wear. Needless to say, Vlad Dracula in no way considered these
people human beings, and he treated them worse than animals, severely punishing and torturing his

Dracula Informative Speech

  • 1. Dracula Informative Speech Researching was never usually my strong suit, especially when I had no idea about what topic to pursue. As I thought about the various events and people I had read about throughout my life, I didn't have much interest in any of them. Just when I was about to give up and browse through a list of research topics online, one name flashed into my mind. Dracula. I had always loved reading and watching the tales of the fictitious count and I knew the inspiration of the bloodthirsty Dracula was a Romanian prince named Vlad. However, the legend behind Dracula has always been shrouded in mystery. That is why I would like to know,"Who was the real Count Dracula?" What I Know. Vlad Tepes III was one of the children of Vlad II and Cneajna of Moldavia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His family's sobriquet, or nickname, Dracul, originated from his father Vlad II's induction into The Order of the Dragon, which was created by the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund to uphold Christianity in Europe and defend against the Ottoman Empire. Dracul translates to 'son of the dragon' and was also thought to have meant 'son of the devil.' In 1436, Vlad and his family moved to Targoviste, Wallachia when Vlad II assumed leadership of the Wallachian voivode, or principality. Things were rather peaceful until 1442 when Vlad III and his younger brother Radu were taken to the court of Ottoman Emperor Murad II. The boys were used as collateral to assure that their father, in a complete reversal of his previous standing and beliefs, would support Ottoman policies without any resistance. Vlad had been kept in captivity for six years, refusing to become loyal to the Ottoman Empire and their beliefs. His brother Radu had capitulated, or surrendered, to the Ottomans a few years before and was now free from their captivity, and following exactly what his brother refused to the years he had remained in captivity. It is uncertain whether he escaped his prison or was merely released by the Ottomans. When Vlad returned to his home in 1448, he received the news that his father and elder brother had been assassinated by Wallachian boyars, or nobles, a year before his freedom. Vlad then embarked to regain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At a young age Vlad and his brother Radu were taken as prisoners by the Ottoman Empire to gain their father's loyalty. During this time is Vlad's life, he was tortured by the Ottomans. • 4. Vlad The Impaler Research Paper There are longstanding legends in Romania of a man who was cold blooded and blood thirsty, a man who was practically immortal(Norine). Vlad The Impaler may not have been cold blooded from berth as many historians would have people believe. Vlad had responsibility thrust upon him that made him who he was. Eventually he became legend although no one remembers his legend but instead the legend of Count Dracula To begin with, Vlad was actually thrown into war from the time he was young. One of the many things dracula is known for is that in the story he drinks the blood of his victims, Vlad was said to have dipped his bread in the blood of his enemies(Norine). But even though vlad has comparisons to all vampires he was not thought of that way for many years. "Vlad was never associated with vampirism until stoker took his name for the novel"(wilde) In fact the name they share is all they truly have in common. After all it is only on very loose information that they are compared(wilde) In conclusion, Vlad Tepes was a three time ruler, a fierce warrior ,and the namesake of dracula. He started life in a country torn by war, started on the path of a warrior reclaiming his rightful place on the throne more than once, and finally he became legend as the vampire dracula. The Ottomans schooled them in standard classes like latin, history, science, and the art of war. The Ottomans also taught the brothers in swordsmanship. "Impalement was initiated by taking an oiled stake about as wide as a burly man's arm, and inserting it through the victim's buttocks, often until it protruded from their mouths." (Alter Dimensions 9) As if that wasn't enough Vlad made sure the oiled stake was not too sharp to make sure shock didn't kill the victims. Set up around the castle were the bodies, and the smell was horrendous throughout the castle. Vlad thought violence was the answer to misbehavior, so this is what he did. For example according to a runaway brit article during the middle ages, there was a German minority living within the region of Transylvania known as the Transylvanian Saxons. • 10. Vlad The Impaler Research Paper There have been countless tyrants and iron–fisted rulers throughout history. Nero, Hitler, Stalin, Ivan, Henry, and Elizabeth were just a few tyrants throughout history who have had an insatiable bloodlust. However, none of them were as terrible and as horrific as Dracula himself, Vlad the Impaler. He had slaughtered thousands of innocent people, as well as impaled hundreds of those of whom he saw unfit for his kingdom. Thieves, merchants, and peasants alike were all killed, no matter how small of a crime they had committed. These tendencies had turned Vlad into one of the most vicious rulers in history. Vlad III was born on November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born in a building call the citadel. The citadel was the main military fortress of Transylvania. • 11. The Story of Vlad the Impaler's Life Are you a fan of Vampires or Dracula? I am so I did some research on them, that, and I was told to. My essay is over the very first vampire Vlad Dracula or more commonly today Vlad the Impaler. Yes this is going to take a while so hold tight. Vlad was born in Transylvania a very long time ago. He was a prince of Wallachia for many, many years. He was well known for what he did to the enemy during the battles he fought in. Vlad was a highly feared person. He was the over taker of many lands, and villages. Vlad Dracula was a dastardly man who in this seriously long essay I will explain everything I have the knowledge of. Let's Begin. Vlad Dracula was born to Vlad Dracul and his mother was a beautiful young Moldavian princess, her name was lost in history. He was born in the year 1431 in the country of Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born a prince for his father was from a family of princes in Wallachia (Goldberg & Itzkowitz pg. 18), and of course his mother being a princess helped. His name Dracula means "little dragon, or little devil". His father was a knight of Emperor Sigismund. Vlad lived near the front line of defense for this reason alone. When Vlad was about either 12 or 13 he and his brother Radu were traded to the Turks by their father as hostages as to keep the treaty of peace between the two countries from ever being broken. During a war with Hungary in 1447, Vlad II Dracul (Dracula's father) and Tepes's eldest brother were killed by Hungarian assassins. Wallachia was ruled by Hungary, and the Turks released and gave Tepes an army in order to capture Wallachia. He held the throne for two months before being forced to run away. He then abandoned Turkish ties and appealed to Hungary to become Prince of Wallachia. His following rule, though bloody, brought Romania together like never before. He was made famous by his rule as well since his name "Vlad the Impaler" came during this rule. He got this name from his use of torture as punishment; his 'favorite' act being using a large wooden stake to impale criminals from the groin to the mouth. Soon war began again with Turkey and Hungary, and he was removed and regained the throne a third time before he was killed in a war with the Turks, his head sent to the sultan as proof of his death. Stoker used this historical basis to build Count Dracula, the now vampirised Vlad III Tepes. One of the most well known aspects of a vampyre is that it must feed upon the blood of the living; Dracula must drink to survive, (akin to people drinking the blood of Christ––the blood of divine life). However, I do not believe that this act of survival should be the basis by which the myth of Dracula is labeled as horrific and evil. From a mythical perspective, Dracula was simply, to ... (Coppola, 1992) Dracula is victorious against the Turks. However, seeking a measure of revenge, the Turks shoot an arrow into his castle, carrying false news of his death. Elisabeta, overcome with grief, hurls herself into the river from atop the castle ramparts. The prologue establishes Dracula as a Christian knight, defending God's church and the light of Christendom from pagan, heathen forces of darkness. It is a fascinating combination of mythic– religious symbols residing on the extreme eastern edge of 15th century Christian civilization. The sacred, blessed "Order of the Dragon" is a very pre–Christian symbol of feminine strength and magic connected with the earth, whose story is beautifully presented by John Boorman in his 1981 film "Excalibur".
