TYPES AND USES OF
PHOTOGRAPHY
Mia celestine – Lees
MACRO
This Macro photograph, above (left hand side) was taken by the well known Macro
photographer, Shikhei Goh. I have chosen this photo because I personally enjoyed
looking at this image as the colors caught my attention. The whole purpose of Macro
photography is to make the small objects (insects/nature) look larger than they actually
are. In this image you can see each and every detail of the frogs body that maybe our
own eye’s couldn't see when looking at the object (frog) normally. As Goh captured the
image the light enhanced the frog’s Green head and Red eyes this attracts the human
eye to these vibrant colors. This is a photo of a frog leaping from bark/wood. This image
makes me feel happy but also anxious as you don’t know whether the frog will make it
to where he is jumping to.
Some photographers that particularly shoot Macro photos are Heather Angel, Krasimir
Matarov and Carlo Galliani.
Macro photography, also known as ’Close Up’ photography is one of the main categories of photography. Usually
photographers that specialize in Macro/Nature photography take images of small organisms such as insects and flowers.
These two images on the right hand
side are both examples of my own
Macro photography. I believe that
these are both suitable examples as
they both focus on either an insect or
flower. These images both close up on
to the object.
LANDSCAPE
Landscape photography captures the mostly nature
based scenes in the world. They capture the presence of
nature but also include man made features.
The image above is a photo that was taken by a
landscape photographer named Charlie Waite. This
image is simple but ranges in tones of reds and oranges,
this is what persuaded me to choose this image as an
example. This is a photo of a desert. When looking at
this photograph I feel warm and relaxed this is because
of the colors used in the image.
Some photographers that specialize in Landscape
photography are Adam Burton, Ross Hoddinott and Guy
Richardson.
These images are two of
my own examples in
Landscape photography.
Both of these images are
good examples as they
both cover a wide range
of space like a landscape
image does.
Nature
Nature Photography refers to a wide range of photography, these images are usually taken
outside and focus on displaying natural elements such as, wildlife, landscapes, plants and
close ups.
This image was captured by Patrick Zephyr. The reason I chose to use this image for this
section of nature photography is because of the variation of color within the image. When
I look at this image become relaxed and almost hypnotized because of the colors and
textures that are incorporated. The objective’s within this image are the clouds, the sea
and the sky. When I see the sky I start to feel warm as the color orange is a warm toned
color, however when you look lower in the image you see colder toned colors such as blue
and purples, this makes me feel chilled. The image includes juxtaposed colors we know
this as when you look at orange you associate it with warmth but when you view
something that is a blue/purple color you feel a lot more calmed.
Some photographers associated with Nature are Mark Hamblin, John Shaw and David
Lloyd.
These images are both
examples of Nature
photography as they
include aspects of nature
such as flowers and
animals.
Street
Street photography is also sometimes known as candid photography.
Street photography includes random incidents, chance encounters
within public places.
I chose this image taken by Joel Meyerowitz because of the mystery of
the image. I like how the woman is positioned behind a speaker so that
her face is covered and the viewer can enable their imagination by her
identity being covered up. The glass box also suggests that she’s
working somewhere important, I like the positions of all these
objectives. When I viewed this image for the first time the photo
made me think about the woman’s face and all the random
possibilities of when she looks like, I enjoy the simple monochrome as
it makes the image look a lot more dated, this grey toned image makes
me feel dull.
Other photographer that take street images include Robert Frank,
Mark Cohen and iO Tillett Wright.
The two images on the
right hand side are my
own examples of
street photography.
These images are
great examples of
street photography as
they include public
locations and un-
expected encounters.
