    film package is very important in the
    successful marketing of a film – this helps the
    audience recognise the brand and associate
    this with the film.
   Psychological thrillers represent a kind of
    hyper-reality – extreme cases of
    psychological disturbance and their effects.
    This kind of representation is expected by the
    audience, who will have chosen to watch a
    psychological thriller due to this. This
    representation has to be maintained
    throughout the package to make it a
    coherent product.
   Using an institution that is well known for the
    genre of film you are producing – in our
    case, a psychological thriller – is important in
    creating a coherent product. Audience
    expectations of a certain company will help a
    product sell – if a company has a large
    audience already built up because of popular
    films, a new product is much more likely to be
    successful.
   The narrative needs to be one that is shown
    coherently through the package – having a
    poster that is in no way linked to the trailer
    for a film will confuse the audience and mean
    they cannot identify with the film across
    media platforms, meaning that the film
    package is not going to be successful.
   The audience help to create a coherent
    product because their expectations are
    outlined before production through their
    reactions to similar media products. It is clear
    that their needs to be a strong motif
    throughout the package, so that the audience
    can link the media products together.
