Handbook—Points of Emphasis
1. Academics
In-Season (Team) Policy
• Encouraged to have a C (70%) or better in all classes
• Practices are excused as needed, for academic reasons
• Will not travel with the team (when leaving school early)
Final Grades (in line with LMCSD policy)
• 30-day penalty
• F (starting on 1st competition date)
• F+ (once grades are posted at the end of term)

2. Code of Conduct: Use of Tobacco/Nicotine/Alcohol/Other Drugs
In line with LMCSD Good Conduct Policy:
1st offense: 20% suspension from competitions + counseling
2nd offense: 50% suspension from competitions + counseling
3rd offense: one year suspension from all co/extra-curricular activities + counseling
4th offense: permanent suspension from all co/extra-curricular activities + counseling

3. In-Game Penalties (in line with IAHSAA policy)
YELLOW CARDS
• Players must leave the game for five (5) consecutive minutes
• Penalties carry over from half to half, half to overtime, overtime to overtime
• If yellow card is received in 2nd OT, player is disqualified from remainder of game
RED CARDS
• 2 yellow cards = red
• Player is disqualified for the remainder of the match; team plays short
• Player is disqualified from next playing “date” and must complete sportsmanship course
Yellow & Red Card Violations
As a coaching staff, we reserve the right to hand out punishments
beyond state-required guidelines.
Differences in officiating styles have caused us to look at each situation
on a case-by-case basis.
All decisions are final

4. Absences
• Players MUST attend practices, regularly, in order to play in games
• If players do not attend classes, they should not be practicing
• If players know they are going to be gone in advance, PARENTS, please
email Coach Brinkmeyer
• Any absence may result in a loss of playing time; Unexcused absences WILL
result in a loss of playing time

5. Dual Sport Athletes / Club Soccer Players
Please inform the Athletic Department, if you are a Dual-Sport (LM) athlete
Please inform the coaching staff if you will be practicing/playing with a club/ODP
program during the season
Missing practice times for any reason, will likely result in a loss of playing time

6. Injuries
Please inform your coach if you get injured during practice or games
Players will often be referred to our Athletic Trainers, Vince Klopfenstein and
Marissa Yorgey
• Treatment or additional consultation will ensue
• Players will be told how/when they can return to regular activity
If a player needs immediate medical attention and a doctor/hospital treats the
player, they must provide a note before returning to activity

7. Social Media
Never post about injuries or team decisions
Keep posts clean and positive, you are a representative of our program
Don’t post anything you wouldn’t say to your Grandma, or to someone’s face

Player Expectations
• Must have all forms on file
• Must know when/where practices are
• Take advantage of opportunities as
they become available
• Embrace your role on the team
• Listen to feedback
• Be responsible for equipment
• Keep locker room and buses clean
• Be devoted to the program
Parent Expectations
• Be a role model for your child
• Encourage your child to communicate
with/to the coaches about team issues
• Please communicate with the coaches
about:
• Absences
• Volunteering
• Injuries or Medical conditions
• Inability to pay for necessary equipment
• Uniform/Stadium requests
Volunteer Opportunity #1
Name Tees
• Facilitator to collect order forms at the end of the week
• Total & take spreadsheet to CG
• Pickup order upon completion
• Sort & prepare for customer pickups
Volunteer Opportunity #2
Meal Pickups
• Drive to and pick up coolers from Jimmy Johns
• Delivery often between 2:00 & 3:00, typically
Volunteer Opportunity #3
Booster Club Rep (starting this fall)
• Organize volunteers from our players/parent group for activities where the
Booster Club will have concessions
• Taking over for K’Dean Dunnwald; Work with Emily McDonald
Volunteer Opportunity #4
Team Meals
• The Varsity team will typically have a few “team meals” hosted by Varsity
parents
• Some parents open their homes, while others prepare the meal

Required Forms
1. Current Physical
2. Good Conduct Form
3. Concussion Form
4. Off-Campus Waiver
5. Emergency Medical Card
6. Permission to Drive Form
Philosophy
While high school sports are about participation, we don’t prescribe to the
idea that everyone will get equal playing time.
JV1 & JV2 players may find that the minutes are more evenly distributed.
We do substitute often
• Substitutes are unlimited in high school soccer.
• Substitutions often depend on the positions played, and the depth and
number of players at each position.

Teams will lift after school 2 days/week
• Each team will have the flexibility to adjust
accordingly, based on each week’s game
schedule.
• Normal practices will take place after lifting
Practices begin Monday, March 11
• 4-8pm
Schedules
First two (2) weeks
• All Skill-based practices will be conducted together, evaluating ability/placement
First two (2) Saturdays
• Scrimmages used for placement confirmation
• March 16, Fr/So @ 9am Jr/Sr @ 10:30am
• March 23, JV @ 9am Varsity @ 10:30am
Rosters announced on March 24th ; Pictures on March 28th
First Contests
Varsity, March 30 JV2, April 1 JV1, April 2
Locations
Practice locations will include (but may not be limited to)
• Linn-Mar Stadium
• Echo Hill Elementary
• Armstrong Field
• Oak Ridge or Excelsior Football Field
Games played at Linn-Mar Stadium unless otherwise noted (JV2)
Equipment
Shinguards
• Should have a tag or stamp, with the player’s height
Cleats
• Most common, universally accepted type is a molded cleat
• Replaceable cleats can only be worn on grass
• The majority of our games are played on artificial turf
Compression Apparel
• Must be the same color as the garment being worn beneath
*Neither apparel nor equipment needs to be Nike —we
buy/wear this apparel by choice
Practice Apparel
Preferred practice apparel >>>
Alternatives
• Any gray t-shirt
• Any red or black (personal) shorts
• Gray or black socks
When cold, dress appropriately (40°)
• Players will not be allowed to practice if coaches
feel they are putting themselves in harm’s way

• Some additional practice apparel is on hand and available to purchase (until it’s
gone). If you did not buy any and would like to, please indicate on the order form;
please purchase only one of each item, if so.
• Stickers for your autos, offices, or otherwise are available
• $3 ea or 2/$5
• Soccer Scarves…please talk with Coach Brinkmeyer, if interested in purchasing your
own
• Jimmy Johns will provide meals to JV1 & Varsity players wishing to have a pre-made
meal for away games. Six (6) dates have been selected. Total amount due is $48.
Signups after team rosters have been determined.
• Meal includes sandwich (Turkey/Ham/Roast Beef), chips, cookie, bottled water

  • 6. Handbook—Points of Emphasis 1. Academics In-Season (Team) Policy • Encouraged to have a C (70%) or better in all classes • Practices are excused as needed, for academic reasons • Will not travel with the team (when leaving school early) Final Grades (in line with LMCSD policy) • 30-day penalty • F (starting on 1st competition date) • F+ (once grades are posted at the end of term)
  • 7. Handbook—Points of Emphasis 2. Code of Conduct: Use of Tobacco/Nicotine/Alcohol/Other Drugs In line with LMCSD Good Conduct Policy: 1st offense: 20% suspension from competitions + counseling 2nd offense: 50% suspension from competitions + counseling 3rd offense: one year suspension from all co/extra-curricular activities + counseling 4th offense: permanent suspension from all co/extra-curricular activities + counseling

In-Game Penalties (in line with IAHSAA policy) YELLOW CARDS • Players must leave the game for five (5) consecutive minutes • Penalties carry over from half to half, half to overtime, overtime to overtime • If yellow card is received in 2nd OT, player is disqualified from remainder of game RED CARDS • 2 yellow cards = red • Player is disqualified for the remainder of the match; team plays short • Player is disqualified from next playing “date” and must complete sportsmanship course
  • 9. Yellow & Red Card Violations As a coaching staff, we reserve the right to hand out punishments beyond state-required guidelines. Differences in officiating styles have caused us to look at each situation on a case-by-case basis. All decisions are final

Absences • Players MUST attend practices, regularly, in order to play in games • If players do not attend classes, they should not be practicing • If players know they are going to be gone in advance, PARENTS, please email Coach Brinkmeyer • Any absence may result in a loss of playing time; Unexcused absences WILL result in a loss of playing time

Dual Sport Athletes / Club Soccer Players Please inform the Athletic Department, if you are a Dual-Sport (LM) athlete Please inform the coaching staff if you will be practicing/playing with a club/ODP program during the season Missing practice times for any reason, will likely result in a loss of playing time

Injuries Please inform your coach if you get injured during practice or games Players will often be referred to our Athletic Trainers, Vince Klopfenstein and Marissa Yorgey • Treatment or additional consultation will ensue • Players will be told how/when they can return to regular activity If a player needs immediate medical attention and a doctor/hospital treats the player, they must provide a note before returning to activity
  • 13. Handbook—Points of Emphasis 7. Social Media Never post about injuries or team decisions Keep posts clean and positive, you are a representative of our program Don’t post anything you wouldn’t say to your Grandma, or to someone’s face

Handbook—Points of Emphasis see handout/handbook for more information Player Expectations • Must have all forms on file • Must know when/where practices are • Take advantage of opportunities as they become available • Embrace your role on the team • Listen to feedback • Be responsible for equipment • Keep locker room and buses clean • Be devoted to the program Parent Expectations • Be a role model for your child • Encourage your child to communicate with/to the coaches about team issues • Please communicate with the coaches about: • Absences • Volunteering • Injuries or Medical conditions • Inability to pay for necessary equipment • Uniform/Stadium requests
  • 15. Volunteer Opportunity #1 Name Tees • Facilitator to collect order forms at the end of the week • Total & take spreadsheet to CG • Pickup order upon completion • Sort & prepare for customer pickups
  • 16. Volunteer Opportunity #2 Meal Pickups • Drive to and pick up coolers from Jimmy Johns • Delivery often between 2:00 & 3:00, typically
  • 17. Volunteer Opportunity #3 Booster Club Rep (starting this fall) • Organize volunteers from our players/parent group for activities where the Booster Club will have concessions • Taking over for K’Dean Dunnwald; Work with Emily McDonald
  • 18. Volunteer Opportunity #4 Team Meals • The Varsity team will typically have a few “team meals” hosted by Varsity parents • Some parents open their homes, while others prepare the meal *More details to come following roster announcements
  • 19. Required Forms 1. Current Physical 2. Good Conduct Form 3. Concussion Form 4. Off-Campus Waiver 5. Emergency Medical Card 6. Permission to Drive Form
  • 20. Philosophy While high school sports are about participation, we don’t prescribe to the idea that everyone will get equal playing time. JV1 & JV2 players may find that the minutes are more evenly distributed. We do substitute often • Substitutes are unlimited in high school soccer. • Substitutions often depend on the positions played, and the depth and number of players at each position.

Schedules First two (2) weeks • All Skill-based practices will be conducted together, evaluating ability/placement First two (2) Saturdays • Scrimmages used for placement confirmation • March 16, Fr/So @ 9am Jr/Sr @ 10:30am • March 23, JV @ 9am Varsity @ 10:30am Rosters announced on March 24th ; Pictures on March 28th First Contests Varsity, March 30 JV2, April 1 JV1, April 2
  • 23. Locations Practice locations will include (but may not be limited to) • Linn-Mar Stadium • Echo Hill Elementary • Armstrong Field • Oak Ridge or Excelsior Football Field Games played at Linn-Mar Stadium unless otherwise noted (JV2)

Equipment Shinguards • Should have a tag or stamp, with the player’s height Cleats • Most common, universally accepted type is a molded cleat • Replaceable cleats can only be worn on grass • The majority of our games are played on artificial turf Compression Apparel • Must be the same color as the garment being worn beneath *Neither apparel nor equipment needs to be Nike —we buy/wear this apparel by choice

If you did not buy any and would like to, please indicate on the order form; please purchase only one of each item, if so. • Stickers for your autos, offices, or otherwise are available • $3 ea or 2/$5 • Soccer Scarves…please talk with Coach Brinkmeyer, if interested in purchasing your own • Jimmy Johns will provide meals to JV1 & Varsity players wishing to have a pre-made meal for away games. Six (6) dates have been selected. Total amount due is $48. Signups after team rosters have been determined. • Meal includes sandwich (Turkey/Ham/Roast Beef), chips, cookie, bottled water
