Having found a new direction in my life, I left everything in the hectic New York City behind. I moved on my own to a rural area in Washington State
in an effort to live a more peaceful and self–sufficient life, and pursue new experiences. Once I moved, my taste in music gradually became more
refined. I began to seriously practice the classical guitar and composed for it as well. Since then, I also started experimenting with binaural beats and
have used them extensively in meditation and other disciplines. This led me to research the effects of particular frequencies exerted on the brain, and

Student Music Outreach Program
I planned, organized, and currently execute a student music outreach program at the Greenspring Assisted Living Community. At first, volunteering
was simply a way for me to fulfill a community service requirement for school. I was assigned basic tasks such as delivering the mail, or transporting
residents to church, lunch, whatever was asked of me. The time I dedicated was so enjoyable that I continued to volunteer after my requirements were
complete. Gradually, I was given more jobs and responsibility which allowed me to directly interact with a greater amount of residents. Eventually, I
was cooking snacks, preparing and leading group discussions, and helping organize weekly church service. These services, as I thought, were more than
I have played the upright double bass since elementary school and have continually invested my time and focus into music. Music has taught me
discipline through practice and has also brought me tremendous enjoyment. It is a gift I believed that the residents would appreciate so I decided to
share the benefits of live music with my friends at Greenspring. Just playing bass on my own for a couple hours would have been incredibly difficult
and likely not as enjoyable to the audience. Therefore, I devised a music outreach program to connect the elderly and student music communities. I
presented my plan to the head of administration at Greenspring as well as the heads of local schools' Guitar, Orchestra, and Band departments. Next, I
approached the student music organizations such as the Tri–M music honor society to solicit students for my program. Students of all backgrounds,
disciplines, and passions then signed up and performed to fulfill their service requirements. While many initially volunteered for the same reasons as I
did, many students became regulars within the program. Interacting with widely differing communities of musicians and elders bestowed upon me a
crucial component of leadership: adaptability. I welcomed all residents, introduced each student, and the purpose of my program. To this day my
fellow musicians and I perform special music exhibitions for the residents a few times a year. There is nothing like the ability to play before a live
audience, fulfill student service requirements, and provide a meaningful service for the elderly community. I am proud to be the Master of Ceremony,

Music programs throughout the United States are making quite the hurrah, and yet seem to never be heard by the classmates and staff that walk the
same halls as them. The lack of appreciation of the music and arts programs throughout America is astonishing, and heartbreaking to many of the

I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years) by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at
the budget and my recommendations are that we should cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These
reductions would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars.
I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve. Consequently, I propose to

Lasted summer I attended a summer musical education program. The program is during the summer and you meet new teachers, learn new

Playing music has always been a passion of mine. Growing up in the Bellevue School District I was fortunate enough to have exposure to excellent
music programs. I began playing clarinet in fifth grade, and in middle school I transitioned to saxophone. Having that hour every day to decompress
and focus on music in school was something I always valued. Later, in high school, I took basic and advanced guitar classes. It was about that time that
I truly became a passionate musician. Although I do not play saxophone very much these days, I play more than enough guitar to make up for it.

Much too often in America today, modern music and art programs in schools are perceived to many as extracurricular activities rather than important
subjects that are vital to a students learning and skill development. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public schools
has a much larger impact on student's grades, academic performance, and the economy than the majority people realize. Within the next year city
school budgets will be dropping by twenty five percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic contribution to
student's learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no dedicated money for art or music programs (Mezzacappa). There is
"Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school
attendance" ("11 Facts about Arts in Education"). Music and art are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for based
on this evidence. Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance, which can lead to being one of the most important things in a
student's academic success in school. Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes and teachers if
they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which means more students are getting the information they need to excel
from their teachers, which ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core subjects in only twenty–six
states in America (Mandel). If only twenty–six states are treating art education as a core subject, that means that twenty–four states are currently
neglecting art programs and not considering them important to their student's education. If more states are educated on the importance of art programs
for young students, and the arts are defined as core subjects nationally, then there will be a
