Eulogy Of Jay Gatsby
It deeply saddens me to say we are all gathered here today to remember the life of James Gatz, or
better known as Jay Gatsby. When I first moved here to West Egg a few years ago I quickly took
notice of Jay and was determined to find out more about him. To my own surprise, Gatsby grew on
me and as time progressed our friendship prospered. You see, Gatsby was different from the people
of West Egg, he was better and he deserved better than what he got. He also threw the most
outstanding parties in history. {chuckles lightly} Day by day, my respect for this extraordinary man
grew and grew stronger. Jay had something special about him that many failed to notice and
embrace. Although Gatsby did not lead the most honest life, there was no denying

Jay Gatsby Decay
Throughout the book The Great Gatsby which portrays the luxury and glamour of the 1920's as well
as the opposite where it is an era of materialism and moral decay, Jay Gatsby encompases it all. At
first he is a mystery, an enigma shaded by flashing lights and the upper class, the mysterious
gentleman who holds elaborate parties and is only known as Gatsby. As the story progresses he is
come to be known as Jay Gatsby a man deeply infatuated with the idea of Ms. Daisy Buchanan,
come from a bootleg propelled fortune, and the dream of the former James Gatz. Above all Jay
Gatsby is a dreamer, from when he became Gatsby from Gatz from North Dakota. Jay Gatsby is
formed in the fancies of a boy and projected out in an effort to capture the love of

Jay Gatsby Characteristics
Jay Gatsby's character is an interesting one. It seems that everything he does is in pursuit of
accomplishing his utmost improbable thought i.e. to get Daisy back in his life which is his past. He
may be known as the "Great Gatsby", but after considering some of his personal traits, some of the
things he believes in are not commendable.
Initially, he did not belong to an elite family. He was born in the house of poor farmers and as he
grew up, he separated himself from his family. In order to break away from his past and achieve
greater opportunities in life, Jimmy Gatz becomes Jay Gatsby. He then falls in love with Daisy, who
belong to a rich family and the only thing that keeps her away from him is money. From that point
onwards, Jay has

Jay Gatsby's Personality
Jay Gatsby is a wealthy individual living in the posh area of West Egg and throws lavish parties, to
which Nick Carraway is invited. At the party, Nick Carraway is inundated with various rumors of
Gatsby's becoming a wealthy man–– rumors of him being a murderer, an Oxford man, or a German
spy. Once Nick meets Gatsby, however, he sees nothing but goodness within him, saying Gatsby had
"one of those rare smiles" that had the ability to display "eternal reassurance" (48). Gatsby tries to
befriend Nick by attempting to show him the "real Gatsby", worried that Nick's perception was
based off of only rumors. One day, Nick and Gatsby travel to the city in order to have lunch with
Gatsby's close friend. While going there Nick observes Gatsby's behaviour, ... Show more content

Wolfsheim proves to be a bad and sinister person through the things he tells Nick himself. He starts
to talk about "The old metropole" and says it is "full of memories" of Rosy Rosenthal, one of
Wolfsheim's friends, who was "shot...three times in his full belly" (70). The way Wolfsheim tells
Nick about this story of when somebody got shot for being a gambler seems to be in a more light–
hearted sense, as if he thinks of this memory as a good one by the way he says "full of memories."
Wolfsheim, being fairly connected to the Rosy Rosenthal incident, is proven to be sinister. After
Wolfsheim leaves suddenly, Gatsby starts to tell Nick who Wolfsheim is. Nick guesses if Wolfsheim
is, "an actor?" then "a dentist?" but Gatsby tells him in a hesitated way, "he's a gambler" and how
"he's the man who fixed the World's Series back in 1919" (73). Nick is told that Wolfsheim is not
"an actor" or "a dentist," both of positive backgrounds, but Gatsby hesitates when saying "he's a
gambler." Fixing the World's Series is something only a bad person would do, and how Gatsby is
connected to him shows there is a possibility of Gatsby actually being someone else rather than what
he shows to Nick and other people. Wolfsheim is a sinister man due to the story he tells to how he
fixed the World's Series for gambling, which then may say that Gatsby is sinister aswell for having
close connections to

Jay Gatsby Desires
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby believes money will secure love and class
but it inevitably brings him only superficial relationships. As a young boy, Gatsby desires to be
sophisticated and admired, and he planned on achieving this by becoming wealthy. Jay Gatsby,
originally named James Gatz, was from a poor family in the Midwest but he dreamed of a different
life where he was rich and well–liked. Nick Carraway narrates what he has learned about Gatsby's
past, including his habits of imagination: "Each night he added to the pattern of his fantasies....For a
while these reveries provided an outlet for his imagination; they were a satisfactory hint of the
unreality of reality, a promise that the rock of the world was founded ... Show more content on

He believed he could get her attention with his parties and that she would fall in love with him again
if she saw his wealth. Jordan Baker explains to Carraway Gatsby's love for Daisy, saying, "Gatsby
bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay," (Ch 4). The location of Gatsby's
mansion allows him to be close to Daisy and keeps him hoping she might notice him and their
relationship would start again. Gatsby does not give up on her despite her marriage; he is
determined to gain her love back and he starts that process by moving close to her. Before reuniting
with Daisy, Gatsby stood outside his mansion admiring it's lights, and Carraway narrates: "So I
didn't know whether or not Gatsby went to Coney Island, or for how many hours he 'glanced into
rooms' while his house blazed gaudily on," (Ch 5). Later, Carraway also discusses a possible reason
for Gatsby's lavish parties, "I think he half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some
night," (Ch 6). Gatsby uses both his mansion and his extravagant parties to attempt to catch Daisy's
attention. He believes his money is what will draw her in and make her want him again. His idea
that materials will entice her results in the inception of an affair, but ends up not being enough for
Daisy to stay with

Is Jay Gatsby Selfish
A variety of novels often highlight certain social occasions in order to reveal the true value of
another person's character. Jay Gatsby is a successful businessman who is often taken advantage of
by the wealthy half of New York such as Daisy Buchanan, Meyer Wolfsheim, and Klipspringer. In
the novel, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author exposes the true societal views
of 1920s New York through the funeral that follows the death of Jay Gatsby, where the writer
displays the empty values of a self centered society, which takes advantage of others by discarding
them when they become of no more use. The affluent 1920s New York society seems to have their
own set of moral beliefs that they live by, different from the majority ... Show more content on

Nick Carraway's despair after the death of Gatsby reflects upon how much he cared for Gatsby. Nick
realizes that after inviting many people to Gatsby's funeral, nobody cared about him like Nick did.
To illustrate, "But all this part of it seemed remote and unessential. I found myself on Gatsby's side,
and alone" (Fitzgerald 264). Nick is the only person who seemed to be taking care of Gatsby after
all that has happened, and he knows that he is all Gatsby has. In relative terms, Nick's feels hopeless
after the loss of Gatsby and it shows that Nick has always valued Gatsby for who he was as a
person. To continue, after the many calls Nick makes, only a select few show to the funeral. Nick
becomes anxious due to the fact that he believes all of the people Gatsby once knew would be there
for him. In particular, as Nick arrives to the cemetery he frantically looks for other cars to appear but
then realizes it isn't any use, and nobody else will be coming (FItzgerald 174). To Nick's distress, he
comes to the conclusion that not many people actually knew Gatsby, but rather used him for his
popularity and entertainment. In other words, Nick is one of the few in this society whose standards
are not immoral. Therefore, as the funeral takes place, Nick's sorrow only grows for the little respect
that was paid to Mr.

The Great Gatsby: the story of the obsessive Jay Gatsby, lies, betrayal, and death. Of all the
characters in The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby was by far the greatest and least great characterof them.
What limited how deserving he was of the title "great" was that Gatsby lived a life based off of lies
and deceit which, arguably, led to his tragic death. Even though Gatsby did some horrible things to
get where he was, he did it in order to try to win the heart back of someone special, which helped
make the treacherous things he did seem not so bad. All in all, Jay Gatsby was simultaneously
unworthy and worthy of the title "great."

To everyone else, Gatsby was an "Oxford man," as he called himself, mysterious, and extremely
private about his personal life, and thus many rumors circulated around him. Nobody knew of the
real Jay Gatsby, small town James Gatz, because he was simply unglamorous and uninteresting to
the American public of the 1920s. Furthermore, everything that he did was for Daisy Buchanan.
Gatsby tried to win her love back and failed, a nonsensical belief on his part; however, he pursued it
anyway. It was his obsession with her ultimately led to his death since he would do anything to
protect the girl that he loved even though she would not reciprocate his feelings completely or do
the same for him. Jay Gatsby would be undoubtedly deserving of being called "great" had it not

Jay Gatsby Being Great
The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald, is a portrayal of American society during the Roaring
Twenties and a story of a man who climbs his way up from rags to riches. Jay Gatsby, is a low class
American from the mid–west whom is a dreamer and has a goal of becoming successful like any
other American hopes and dreams for. Gatsby begins his life as a typical ordinary, lower class
citizen, who has a goal of fulfilling his dream of soon becoming wealthy. Jay Gatsby is presented
within the novel as being great in several senses such as the way he is perceived, his potential, as
well as being romantic. Although, F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays Jay Gatsby as a lying, thieving, scam
artist, Jay Gatsby throughout the novel receives the title of being great. ... Show more content on

Jay Gatsby begins his life in the novel as a typical, low class American whom has a dream of
becoming successful like any other American. As the novel commences, Jay Gatsby is already
hinted as being great. Nick Carraway goes on to say "Gatsby, who represented everything for which
I have an unaffected scorn. If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was
something gorgeous about him... (Page 2)". Nick is first stating that Gatsby is everything he has ever
hated in his life time but then he goes on to counter that feeling by describing Gatsby as a type of
person, everyone deep within themselves, looks up too. Although no one has truly had a true
encounter with Jay Gatsby, he gives off an impression of being sophisticated as well as successful.
When Gatsby was his other identity of James Gatz, he had a dream of leaving behind his farm and to
become part of the upper–class. James Gatz father had hopes that his son will soon become
successful and was always great deep down saying, "If he'd lived, he'd of been a great man." (Page

The novel, The Great Gatsby focuses on one of the focal characters, James Gatz, also known as Jay
Gatsby. He grew up in North Dakota to a family of poor farm people and as he matured, eventually
worked for a wealthy man named Dan Cody. As Gatsby is taken under Cody's wing, he gains more
than even he bargained for. He comes across a large sum of money, however ends up getting tricked
out of 'inheriting' it. After these obstacles, he finds a new way to earn his money, even though it
means bending the law to obtain it. Some people will go to a lot of trouble in order to achieve things

Gatsby is depicted as a pleasant gentleman even though he does turn to bootlegging as a resource for
money. He does all of this only to be reunited with the one woman he falls in love with, Daisy. In
the novel it is stressed that Gatsby and Daisy spent countless amounts of time together in their youth
which elucidates why Gatsby tries so hard trying to refabricate those moments. He feels as if that is
what will make him content. He wants to be with her because he knows of no one better and he is
bound to her because of what they used to have. Gatsby's love for Daisy is expressed in various
chapters of the novel: "He hadn't once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in
his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well–loved eyes" (90). This quote
depicts how Gatsby is enthralled with Daisy and he enjoys that she is impressed with his possessions
because he becomes rich for her. The fact that she loves his money and what he gets with it makes
him believe she loves him as well as his belongings. Another occasion in which Gatsby is seen as a
pleasant person is when he watches Daisy from a distance to make sure everything is alright after
Myrtle's death transpired. The energy he puts into making sure she is safe shows how much he cares
and how sympathetic he is as a person. Another minor example of Gatsby's kindness is when he

Jay Gatsby Accomplishments
If you're looking at that list and thinking, Sweet!, you're in luck. Published in 1925, The Great
Gatsby is set in New York City and Long Island during the Prohibition era (remember, the
Prohibition era was a time in which alcohol was illegal, no matter how old you were – yowsa).
Flappers? It's got them. Parties? You bet? Cool cars? Absolutely–but more on that in a minute.
The problem is, author F. Scott Fitzgerald didn't see the Jazz Age as all about hip music and sparkly
clothes. He associated the entire period with materialism ("I want things! Lots of things!") and
immorality. For many of the post–World War I era's newly wealthy, materialism and immortality
were the name of the game. The novel's star is Jay Gatsby, a young, rich man in ... Show more

The novel's very title has become a kind of buzzword for periods of excess and fake luxury. The
economic collapse of 2008 brought back distant and unwelcome memories of the stock market crash
of 1929, casting the boom times of the 1990s and early 2000s as the modern–day version of the
Roaring Twenties.
In both cases, though, unsustainable boom times led to devastating crashes with profound cultural
consequences. In the 1920s, it had been a bubble in stocks that brought easy prosperity, while in our
own time the bubble had been in the housing market. In both times, easy money meant that many
people could begin to dream of living out their days like Jay Gatsby, with life as just one grand party
in a seersucker suit. But as that vision of easy luxury crashed and burned (in both 1929 and 2008),
newfound hard times required a redefinition of the American Dream.
And while Gatsby is a work of fiction, Fitzgerald's real life contains some suspicious similarities.
(Gulp.) Narrator Nick Carraway is both mesmerized and disgusted by Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle,
just as Fitzgerald claimed to feel about the "Jazz Age" excesses that he himself adopted. As an Ivy
League educated, middle–class Midwesterner, Fitzgerald (like Nick) saw through the shallow
materialism of the era. But (like Gatsby) Fitzgerald came back from World War I and fell in love
with a wealthy southern socialite – Zelda

On one hand, the two men may have something in common, but on the other hand, Tom displays the

It is clear that Jay Gatsby loves Daisy but is stuck in the past and is obsessed of what they use to
have, which is proven by the way he attempts to convince her to be with him. Also, Gatsby reacts
angrily at Tom regarding his treatment of Daisy, and finally, Gatsby shows that he can get anything
Daisey wants. In the novel Gatsby does some things that makes you really think. An example of this
is the way that he is obsessed with the past and what Daisy and he use to have. Gatsby goes out of
his way and makes things a certain way to try to get Daisy back and make everything like how it use
to be. He also does many things to try and convince Daisy to leave tom and marry him. Throughout
the entire novel there were so many mysteries Nick had about Gatsby and the things he did. "He

For example he purposely bought the house huge mansion that was right across the lake from her.

she sobbed.... "It makes me sad because I've never seen such–such beautiful shirts before." (Ch. 5).
This shows that daisey is very materialistic. Tom and Daisy are rich but Daisey was just overly

How Is Jay Gatsby Selfish
The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a story about the ultra–wealthy and their terrible morals.
It delves into their world from the perspective of a newly rich and humble man. Fitzgerald
undoubtedly based this book on his experiences with fame and money. Scott came from a middle
class family and fell in love with a rich girl named Zelda. She loved him as well and they were
engaged until she decided he would not be able to support her lavish lifestyle with his less than
spectacular salary. He worked harder, made more money, and returned to Zelda, and she accepted
his proposal. Fitzgerald became known as the "King of the Jazz Age," with his and Zelda's

Some say that he was a murderer; others claim he used to be a spy; still others cast doubt upon his
claim of having an Oxford education. To Nick, Jay is a very impressive man who has high
standards. He sees him as the only other person around that has good morals like himself. Due to his
class and friendliness, Nick is more willing to help Jay out when he wants to reunite with Daisy.
This later goes on to reveal how desperate Gatsby was when it came to love, and the extremities he
would reach in an attempt to win Daisy back. Gatsby simply would not take no for an answer. When
he was told that he cannot bring back his past with Daisy, his response was, "Can't repeat the past?
Why of course you can!" He truly believed that he could do anything with his wealth and power,
which in this case he wanted nothing more than to win back Daisy

"On week–ends his Rolls–Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city, between
nine in the morning and long past midnight...And on Mondays eight servants including an extra

The Consequences Of Jay Gatsby
James Gatz, a character in conflict with society due to the shortcomings he suffers throughout his
life must, therefore, resort to illusions to cope. Jay Gatsby, was a poor youth from North Dakota
who could never accept the fate that he was given in life. He never had enough money to marry the
woman he loved and was forced to pay for his college by working as a janitor. As a result of all the
defeats and drawbacks that Gatsby suffered through during his youth, he began to despise the life
that he lived. Jay Gatsby was a man that "defie[d] oppressive society by trying to conform to it."
(Hemis, 2010). Gatsby desires nothing more than to oppose the life society has offered him by
becoming a man that contradicts everything he was during his youth. Wealth, power, respect are
what Gatsby pines for and one day he is given the chance to begin again. To escape from the lack of
wealth that James Gatz was given in life, he creates the persona of Jay Gatsby. Recalling Gatsby's
transformation, Nick informs "he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen–year–old boy
would be likely to invent, and to the conception he was faithful to the end" (98). It is important to
understand that the colossal illusion that Gatsby creates in his youth never fades and the rest of his
decisions in life all stem from the one illusion. The fantasy he conceives causes him to believe that
he is beyond society's laws and is able to bend them to his liking. Gaining a false sense of power

to marry her. After he lost her to Tom, he changed his life around to impress Daisy and try to win her
back. Gatsby turned into a very wealthy man that owns millions of dollars worth of luxurious items:
"On week–ends his Rolls–Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city, between
nine in the morning and long past midnight...And on Mondays eight servants including an extra
gardener toiled all day with mops and scrubbing–brushes and hammers and garden shears, repairing
the ravages of the night before"(Fitzgerald 43). Gatsby's plan was that since he placed his mansion
across the bay from Daisy's mansion, he might happen to attract her over with the plentiful parties
he put on. His other point of the parties was to keep his superior status in society and prove to Daisy
that he is now the man she once dreamed of. Gatsby believes he is morally superior to everyone else
and that he should have no trouble with winning Daisy over. He also lies about how he got all the
money, lies about his education and acts as if the world revolves around him. Gatsby's notion that he
is better than the other people eventually leaves him lonely and without anyone to lean on except
Nick. Even the local authorities give Gatsby special privileges. When Gatsby and Nick get pulled

Jay Gatsby Thesis
Jay Gatsby is a thirty years old millionaire, who spent his childhood on a rural Farm in North
Dakota. He despised poverty and dreamed to become a very rich and sophistication gentleman. Jay
left his family's farm at about 17 to go to St. Olaf's College but shortly dropped out because he could
not bear to be janitor anymore even though it was paying for his tuition. At first we had no clue how
Gatsby got his money it was not specified for us for quite a few chapters until nick and Jay went to

trading in stolen securities. Gatsby always wanted to be rich, but it turned out like almost everything

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, "There are all types of love in this world but never the same love
twice". This quote alone was directed to Mr. Jay Gatsby, from the famous book, The Great Gatsby.
This book was written in the 1920's, with the narration of Nick Carraway, who met Jay Gatsby and
became fairly close to him. Nick lived in East Egg neighboring Mr. Jay Gatsby. Living across the
bay in West Egg was, Daisy and Tom Buchanan. Nick is learning how to be non–judgemental
toward others, however, with whom he gets along with, they too were privileged. But not Jay
Gatsby. In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is known for being great because he
is optimistic and ambitious.
Jay Gatsby is known as the Great Gatsby because of his optimism. He has potential for his future
with the love of his life, Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway saw Gatsby on his deck reaching out. He

His ambition is was makes his idea of his dream come true. He had as much motivation as a kid as
he does now. He knew he was meant for something more, and that is want his father proves to Nick.
Jay Gatsby's father, Henry said, "'Jimmy was bound to get ahead. He always had some resolves like
this or something. Do you notice what he's got about improving his mind? He was always great for
that" (Fitzgerald 173). Throughout his childhood, he was determined to be a someone special. When
he was a child, he parents were 'dirt poor'. They had nothing, until James Gatz ran away at age
seventeen to look for his destiny. When he met Dan Cody, he knew this was the start of something
huge. "So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen–year–old boy would be likely to

Jay Gatsby Flaws
Talk about the American dream. What some people see as creating a better life through hard work
and determination, F. Scott Fitzgerald keenly discerns as being materialistic gain. He demonstrates
this through his characters and uses their actions to show their selfish desire that eventually leads to
ruin. Fitzgerald ridicules the American dream through the characters in his work The Great Gatsby.
He uses Jay Gatsby as a modern twist on the classic tragic hero to show us how Gatsby's American
dream is flawed.
Jay Gatsby, being who the story is named after is a very good example of the American dream. He
also represents what most people living in 1920s America were striving for, notably, he has become
so rich that he throws extravagant parties almost every night. Although Gatsby is seen as being
successful, Fitzgerald ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for Gatsby's failure becomes apparent after looking at what he wants. In the story,
Gatsby comes from a poor family where he greatly felt he didn't belong. His parents were farmers
and he "had never really accepted them as his [family]" (Fitzgerald 98). He eventually changes his
name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby distancing himself from his poor background showing his
motivation to escape through hard work and determination. Gatsby took every opportunity he could
to make a better life for himself. From when he abruptly followed Dan Cody out to sea to on his
yacht that "represented all the beauty and glamour in the world", to when he enlisted in the army to
fight honorably (100). But no where is his pursuit of wealth more obvious than in his love for Daisy.
Daisy, compared to Gatsby, was everything he longed for; she had the wealth and social status that
came along with being born into a rich family. Gatsby loved Daisy not because of who she was, but
because she was the manifestation of his dreams. After he gets back from the war and she is married
to Tom he knows that

Jay Gatsby Past
In The Great Gatsby the main character Jay Gatsby not only contends with the past, but also is
utterly consumed by the past. The entirety of the novel portrays Gatsby's overwhelming desire to
reinvigorate a love affair from his earlier years. For Gatsby he never fully contended with the loss of
the women he desired, and as such Gatsby's constructed his life completely absorbed in the past.
After Gatsby lost Daisy he devoted his life to rekindle their love. He spent his early years becoming
the man he wished he was when Daisy was still his, "he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby a

In the novel Gatsby was never going to win over Daisy's heart, but his continually effort to do so
essentially makes the reader pity his worthless and ironic pursuit to build his life to win over a past
love, when he's undeniably just too late. The readers can also observe Gatsby's complete devotion to
his dream even when confronted about it ludicrously. When Nick tells Gatsby that he can't repeat the
past he rebuts by stating, "Can't repeat the past...why of course you can" (118). Here the reader can
sympathize with Gatsby, as they begin to understand just how much he is consumed by his fantasy.
Additionally, when Nick reminisced at the end of the novel on Gatsby endeavor to relive the past he
stated, "it eluded us then, but that's no matter–to–morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms
farther" (193). Here Nick classifies Gatsby's pursuit in a nonjudgmental way because it is truly
something the reader can relate to: reaching for something beyond grasp. Although the reader pities
Gatsby there is still an element of understanding for his yearning to be with Daisy once

Carraway, "her voice is full of money" (133). Marrying Daisy will complete the transformation from
"Mr. Nobody from Nowhere" (140) to "Mr. Somebody from Somewhere" due to her wealth and
status. When he tells Nick, "Can't repeat the past? Why of course you can!" (127), this shows how
optimistic and controlling Gatsby is. He is living in his fantasy, in his own scripted world without

Blue Jays Case Study
The Toronto Blue Jays' recent success, shown in large by the team's first playoff berth in
22 years, has boosted ticket prices at an exponential rate. Through the use of economic concepts and
the book Cocktail Party Economics, the change in prices can be explained further in depth.
While any Blue Jays enthusiast could tell that the price boost is due to the increase in the team's
popularity, one with a working knowledge of economics could explain that the price increase is a
factor of scarcity, demand & equilibrium.
Scarcity, simply put, is the underlying reason why economics and markets exist: the fact that there is
not enough of a good for everyone who wants one to have one. In Cocktail Party
Economics, the author gives an example of having 10 stones that 20 different ... Show more content

There is a limited number of seats in a stadium, and thus there is a limit to the number of tickets to
sell, resulting in only the most dedicated and faithful fans paying large prices to see the playoff
games.
After the Jays' improved performance in the regular season and the increased popularity of the team,
it would be easy to simply say that playoff tickets are in higher demand. However, we must turn to
economics to explain why demand has increased. Demand refers to how much of a good the market
will buy at any given price. For this reason, it is important to understand that price changes, whether
they be increasing or decreasing, do not change demand they change the quantity demanded.
During the first half of the baseball season, the Blue Jays had a worse record and were not expected
to be in the playoff team for that simple reason that they rarely sold out their games, despite the
tickets being at a lower price point than present. However, today tickets sell out mere hours after
being put to market as consumer preferences changed in favour of the team. Cocktail Party

Jay Gatsby Influences
The Great Gatsby is generally regarded as a story of love and tragedy, but in actuality, it was a story
of a sad man chasing a baseless obsession with a woman and in trying to obtain this relationship,
succumbing to immoral practices and ultimately dying alone. The author of The Great Gatsby, F.
Scott Fitzgerald, is a widely acclaimed author who had a life of tragedy and loss that greatly
impacted his writing. He was able to see not only the light–hearted, celebratory, and successful side
of the American Dream, but also the negative effects of overindulging with alcohol and incessant
partying. He was able to indirectly write about himself and his losses in the stories he wrote.

All of his decisions are based on his need to feel superior and his interminable chase after the idea of
Daisy that he has created. Part of the genius of the novel that Fitzgerald included was the two–
dimensionality of the characters. Almost all of the characters lacked a human aspect of their
characterization. Fitzgerald wrote them this way on purpose. He wrote the characters of The Great
Gatsby the way that he saw people around him in his everyday life: shallow and vapid. Instead of
filling the novel with well–rounded characters, he filled it with characters who at best made
questionable decisions, even with good intentions in mind. His decision in doing this is extremely
important to the themes portrayed in the novel. The Great Gatsby brought a lot of the social issues
that were going on in the 20's into the light, and in a brilliant way. Writing Jay Gatsby as a static
character was an integral part of the themes that Fitzgerald hoped to depict with the The Great
Gatsby, and an extremely effective way to expose the general public of the 20s for whom Fitzgerald

critics, teachers, and students alike, Gatsby in particular is a character that continues to mystify

When Nick first meets Gatsby in the novel, the first thing he notices is his smile. He describes it as
"one of those rare smiles [that] concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It
understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood ... and assured you that it had precisely
the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey." (Fitzgerald 52) This quote shows that
Gatsby had quite the mesmerizing and enchanting influence on Nick, as he was clearly unable to
turn away, which wholly paints Gatsby in an charismatic light. However, the last part of this quote
shows that Gatsby is very self–aware. His smile knows that it can influence on people, and so it's
almost tailored to fit everyone's exact needs in order to "understand" them. This lends insight into
Gatsby's character being subtlety manipulative as he knows how to use his appearance to his
advantage in order to get people to be interested in or trust him, as he does to Nick in this scene. So,
physically Fitzgerald's description of Gatsby characterizes him as both charismatic and
manipulative, and as this evidence is displayed relatively early in the novel, it can be assumed that
these are some of Gatsby's primary and most prevalent character

Jay Gatsby Analysis
While Jay Gatsby was a man of mystery he was also one consumed with superficiality. We do not
know much about him until we delve deeper into his background and how it affected him his whole
life. Growing up in poverty inclined him to view a wealthy lifestyle with hungry eyes, willing to do
anything to achieve it, not thinking twice about the consequences. Wealth was one of many goals
Jay Gatsby set in his lifetime, but it was not the most important one. Daisy Buchanan was his last
goal and his longest one at that. For Jay Gatsby, Daisy served as nothing more than a trophy, a
chase, and a means to an end for his American Dream.
Daisy Buchanan: the woman of every man's dreams, loved by many, but not for the reason any
woman should want to be loved. Daisy was loved for her status, serving as a desired trophy wife not
just by Gatsby but by many other men as the narrator, Nick, explains:
"'Her voice is full of money,' he said suddenly. That was it. I'd never understood before. It was full
of money––that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals'
song of it...high in a white palace the king's daughter, the golden girl..." (Fitzgerald 120). Right off
the bat, Gatsby knew her voice sounded like the thing he had wanted since he was young boy:
money. To Gatsby, Daisy was just another form of money. She was something for him to show off
and something to say that he had what was coveted by many other men as Nick tells us when he

While miscommunication is often lauded as a lazy way of driving the story onwards, in this case it

Eulogy Of Jay Gatsby

  • 1. Eulogy Of Jay Gatsby It deeply saddens me to say we are all gathered here today to remember the life of James Gatz, or better known as Jay Gatsby. When I first moved here to West Egg a few years ago I quickly took notice of Jay and was determined to find out more about him. To my own surprise, Gatsby grew on me and as time progressed our friendship prospered. You see, Gatsby was different from the people of West Egg, he was better and he deserved better than what he got. He also threw the most outstanding parties in history. {chuckles lightly} Day by day, my respect for this extraordinary man grew and grew stronger. Jay had something special about him that many failed to notice and embrace. Although Gatsby did not lead the most honest life, there was no denying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Jay Gatsby Decay Throughout the book The Great Gatsby which portrays the luxury and glamour of the 1920's as well as the opposite where it is an era of materialism and moral decay, Jay Gatsby encompases it all. At first he is a mystery, an enigma shaded by flashing lights and the upper class, the mysterious gentleman who holds elaborate parties and is only known as Gatsby. As the story progresses he is come to be known as Jay Gatsby a man deeply infatuated with the idea of Ms. Daisy Buchanan, come from a bootleg propelled fortune, and the dream of the former James Gatz. Above all Jay Gatsby is a dreamer, from when he became Gatsby from Gatz from North Dakota. Jay Gatsby is formed in the fancies of a boy and projected out in an effort to capture the love of ... • 5. Jay Gatsby Characteristics Jay Gatsby's character is an interesting one. It seems that everything he does is in pursuit of accomplishing his utmost improbable thought i.e. to get Daisy back in his life which is his past. He may be known as the "Great Gatsby", but after considering some of his personal traits, some of the things he believes in are not commendable. Initially, he did not belong to an elite family. He was born in the house of poor farmers and as he grew up, he separated himself from his family. In order to break away from his past and achieve greater opportunities in life, Jimmy Gatz becomes Jay Gatsby. He then falls in love with Daisy, who belong to a rich family and the only thing that keeps her away from him is money. From that point onwards, Jay has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Jay Gatsby's Personality Jay Gatsby is a wealthy individual living in the posh area of West Egg and throws lavish parties, to which Nick Carraway is invited. At the party, Nick Carraway is inundated with various rumors of Gatsby's becoming a wealthy man–– rumors of him being a murderer, an Oxford man, or a German spy. Once Nick meets Gatsby, however, he sees nothing but goodness within him, saying Gatsby had "one of those rare smiles" that had the ability to display "eternal reassurance" (48). Gatsby tries to befriend Nick by attempting to show him the "real Gatsby", worried that Nick's perception was based off of only rumors. One day, Nick and Gatsby travel to the city in order to have lunch with Gatsby's close friend. While going there Nick observes Gatsby's behaviour, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolfsheim proves to be a bad and sinister person through the things he tells Nick himself. He starts to talk about "The old metropole" and says it is "full of memories" of Rosy Rosenthal, one of Wolfsheim's friends, who was "shot...three times in his full belly" (70). The way Wolfsheim tells Nick about this story of when somebody got shot for being a gambler seems to be in a more light– hearted sense, as if he thinks of this memory as a good one by the way he says "full of memories." Wolfsheim, being fairly connected to the Rosy Rosenthal incident, is proven to be sinister. After Wolfsheim leaves suddenly, Gatsby starts to tell Nick who Wolfsheim is. Nick guesses if Wolfsheim is, "an actor?" then "a dentist?" but Gatsby tells him in a hesitated way, "he's a gambler" and how "he's the man who fixed the World's Series back in 1919" (73). Nick is told that Wolfsheim is not "an actor" or "a dentist," both of positive backgrounds, but Gatsby hesitates when saying "he's a gambler." Fixing the World's Series is something only a bad person would do, and how Gatsby is connected to him shows there is a possibility of Gatsby actually being someone else rather than what he shows to Nick and other people. Wolfsheim is a sinister man due to the story he tells to how he fixed the World's Series for gambling, which then may say that Gatsby is sinister aswell for having close connections to ... • 9. Jay Gatsby Desires In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby believes money will secure love and class but it inevitably brings him only superficial relationships. As a young boy, Gatsby desires to be sophisticated and admired, and he planned on achieving this by becoming wealthy. Jay Gatsby, originally named James Gatz, was from a poor family in the Midwest but he dreamed of a different life where he was rich and well–liked. Nick Carraway narrates what he has learned about Gatsby's past, including his habits of imagination: "Each night he added to the pattern of his fantasies....For a while these reveries provided an outlet for his imagination; they were a satisfactory hint of the unreality of reality, a promise that the rock of the world was founded ... Jordan Baker explains to Carraway Gatsby's love for Daisy, saying, "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay," (Ch 4). The location of Gatsby's mansion allows him to be close to Daisy and keeps him hoping she might notice him and their relationship would start again. Gatsby does not give up on her despite her marriage; he is determined to gain her love back and he starts that process by moving close to her. Before reuniting with Daisy, Gatsby stood outside his mansion admiring it's lights, and Carraway narrates: "So I didn't know whether or not Gatsby went to Coney Island, or for how many hours he 'glanced into rooms' while his house blazed gaudily on," (Ch 5). Later, Carraway also discusses a possible reason for Gatsby's lavish parties, "I think he half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some night," (Ch 6). Gatsby uses both his mansion and his extravagant parties to attempt to catch Daisy's attention. He believes his money is what will draw her in and make her want him again. His idea that materials will entice her results in the inception of an affair, but ends up not being enough for Daisy to stay with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Is Jay Gatsby Selfish A variety of novels often highlight certain social occasions in order to reveal the true value of another person's character. Jay Gatsby is a successful businessman who is often taken advantage of by the wealthy half of New York such as Daisy Buchanan, Meyer Wolfsheim, and Klipspringer. In the novel, The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author exposes the true societal views of 1920s New York through the funeral that follows the death of Jay Gatsby, where the writer displays the empty values of a self centered society, which takes advantage of others by discarding them when they become of no more use. The affluent 1920s New York society seems to have their own set of moral beliefs that they live by, different from the majority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick Carraway's despair after the death of Gatsby reflects upon how much he cared for Gatsby. Nick realizes that after inviting many people to Gatsby's funeral, nobody cared about him like Nick did. To illustrate, "But all this part of it seemed remote and unessential. I found myself on Gatsby's side, and alone" (Fitzgerald 264). Nick is the only person who seemed to be taking care of Gatsby after all that has happened, and he knows that he is all Gatsby has. In relative terms, Nick's feels hopeless after the loss of Gatsby and it shows that Nick has always valued Gatsby for who he was as a person. To continue, after the many calls Nick makes, only a select few show to the funeral. Nick becomes anxious due to the fact that he believes all of the people Gatsby once knew would be there for him. In particular, as Nick arrives to the cemetery he frantically looks for other cars to appear but then realizes it isn't any use, and nobody else will be coming (FItzgerald 174). To Nick's distress, he comes to the conclusion that not many people actually knew Gatsby, but rather used him for his popularity and entertainment. In other words, Nick is one of the few in this society whose standards are not immoral. Therefore, as the funeral takes place, Nick's sorrow only grows for the little respect that was paid to Mr. ... • 13. Jay Gatsby Selfish The Great Gatsby: the story of the obsessive Jay Gatsby, lies, betrayal, and death. Of all the characters in The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby was by far the greatest and least great characterof them. What limited how deserving he was of the title "great" was that Gatsby lived a life based off of lies and deceit which, arguably, led to his tragic death. Even though Gatsby did some horrible things to get where he was, he did it in order to try to win the heart back of someone special, which helped make the treacherous things he did seem not so bad. All in all, Jay Gatsby was simultaneously unworthy and worthy of the title "great." Jay Gatsby invented a mysterious and eccentric persona that hid the truth of his adolescence and rise to wealth, known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To everyone else, Gatsby was an "Oxford man," as he called himself, mysterious, and extremely private about his personal life, and thus many rumors circulated around him. Nobody knew of the real Jay Gatsby, small town James Gatz, because he was simply unglamorous and uninteresting to the American public of the 1920s. Furthermore, everything that he did was for Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby tried to win her love back and failed, a nonsensical belief on his part; however, he pursued it anyway. It was his obsession with her ultimately led to his death since he would do anything to protect the girl that he loved even though she would not reciprocate his feelings completely or do the same for him. Jay Gatsby, is a low class American from the mid–west whom is a dreamer and has a goal of becoming successful like any other American hopes and dreams for. Gatsby begins his life as a typical ordinary, lower class citizen, who has a goal of fulfilling his dream of soon becoming wealthy. Jay Gatsby is presented within the novel as being great in several senses such as the way he is perceived, his potential, as well as being romantic. Although, F. Jay Gatsby begins his life in the novel as a typical, low class American whom has a dream of becoming successful like any other American. As the novel commences, Jay Gatsby is already hinted as being great. Nick Carraway goes on to say "Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn. If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him... (Page 2)". Nick is first stating that Gatsby is everything he has ever hated in his life time but then he goes on to counter that feeling by describing Gatsby as a type of person, everyone deep within themselves, looks up too. Although no one has truly had a true encounter with Jay Gatsby, he gives off an impression of being sophisticated as well as successful. When Gatsby was his other identity of James Gatz, he had a dream of leaving behind his farm and to become part of the upper–class. James Gatz father had hopes that his son will soon become successful and was always great deep down saying, "If he'd lived, he'd of been a great man." (Page 168). • 17. Jay Gatsby The novel, The Great Gatsby focuses on one of the focal characters, James Gatz, also known as Jay Gatsby. He grew up in North Dakota to a family of poor farm people and as he matured, eventually worked for a wealthy man named Dan Cody. As Gatsby is taken under Cody's wing, he gains more than even he bargained for. He comes across a large sum of money, however ends up getting tricked out of 'inheriting' it. After these obstacles, he finds a new way to earn his money, even though it means bending the law to obtain it. Some people will go to a lot of trouble in order to achieve things at all costs. F. Gatsby is depicted as a pleasant gentleman even though he does turn to bootlegging as a resource for money. He does all of this only to be reunited with the one woman he falls in love with, Daisy. In the novel it is stressed that Gatsby and Daisy spent countless amounts of time together in their youth which elucidates why Gatsby tries so hard trying to refabricate those moments. He feels as if that is what will make him content. He wants to be with her because he knows of no one better and he is bound to her because of what they used to have. Gatsby's love for Daisy is expressed in various chapters of the novel: "He hadn't once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well–loved eyes" (90). This quote depicts how Gatsby is enthralled with Daisy and he enjoys that she is impressed with his possessions because he becomes rich for her. The fact that she loves his money and what he gets with it makes him believe she loves him as well as his belongings. Another occasion in which Gatsby is seen as a pleasant person is when he watches Daisy from a distance to make sure everything is alright after Myrtle's death transpired. The energy he puts into making sure she is safe shows how much he cares and how sympathetic he is as a person. Another minor example of Gatsby's kindness is when he sends a new evening gown to a ... Jay-Z Essay Originally from Marcy Houses housing project in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City,[9] Jay–Z was abandoned by his father Adnes Reeves and shot his brother in the shoulder for stealing his jewelry[10] when he was twelve years old.[11] Jay–Z attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn, along with rapper AZ, until it was closed down. After that he attended George Westinghouse Information Technology High School in Downtown Brooklyn, with fellow rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, and Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey, but did not graduate.[12] He claims to have been caught up in selling drugs, to which he refers in his music.[11] According to his mother Gloria Carter, a young Jay–Z ... • 22. Jay Gatsby Accomplishments If you're looking at that list and thinking, Sweet!, you're in luck. Published in 1925, The Great Gatsby is set in New York City and Long Island during the Prohibition era (remember, the Prohibition era was a time in which alcohol was illegal, no matter how old you were – yowsa). Flappers? It's got them. Parties? You bet? Cool cars? Absolutely–but more on that in a minute. The problem is, author F. Scott Fitzgerald didn't see the Jazz Age as all about hip music and sparkly clothes. He associated the entire period with materialism ("I want things! Lots of things!") and immorality. For many of the post–World War I era's newly wealthy, materialism and immortality were the name of the game. The novel's star is Jay Gatsby, a young, rich man in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel's very title has become a kind of buzzword for periods of excess and fake luxury. The economic collapse of 2008 brought back distant and unwelcome memories of the stock market crash of 1929, casting the boom times of the 1990s and early 2000s as the modern–day version of the Roaring Twenties. In both cases, though, unsustainable boom times led to devastating crashes with profound cultural consequences. In the 1920s, it had been a bubble in stocks that brought easy prosperity, while in our own time the bubble had been in the housing market. In both times, easy money meant that many people could begin to dream of living out their days like Jay Gatsby, with life as just one grand party in a seersucker suit. But as that vision of easy luxury crashed and burned (in both 1929 and 2008), newfound hard times required a redefinition of the American Dream. And while Gatsby is a work of fiction, Fitzgerald's real life contains some suspicious similarities. (Gulp.) Narrator Nick Carraway is both mesmerized and disgusted by Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle, just as Fitzgerald claimed to feel about the "Jazz Age" excesses that he himself adopted. As an Ivy League educated, middle–class Midwesterner, Fitzgerald (like Nick) saw through the shallow materialism of the era. Jay Gatsby Quotes On one hand, the two men may have something in common, but on the other hand, Tom displays the true horror of human beings who purposely allow innocent men to suffer the consequence of a murder they did not commit, yet the book counters his darkness with the light of Jay Gatsby's genuine kindness towards people. Jay Gatsby Selfish It is clear that Jay Gatsby loves Daisy but is stuck in the past and is obsessed of what they use to have, which is proven by the way he attempts to convince her to be with him. Also, Gatsby reacts angrily at Tom regarding his treatment of Daisy, and finally, Gatsby shows that he can get anything Daisey wants. In the novel Gatsby does some things that makes you really think. An example of this is the way that he is obsessed with the past and what Daisy and he use to have. Gatsby goes out of his way and makes things a certain way to try to get Daisy back and make everything like how it use to be. He also does many things to try and convince Daisy to leave tom and marry him. Throughout the entire novel there were so many mysteries Nick had about Gatsby and the things he did. It delves into their world from the perspective of a newly rich and humble man. Fitzgerald undoubtedly based this book on his experiences with fame and money. Jay Gatsby, was a poor youth from North Dakota who could never accept the fate that he was given in life. He never had enough money to marry the woman he loved and was forced to pay for his college by working as a janitor. As a result of all the defeats and drawbacks that Gatsby suffered through during his youth, he began to despise the life that he lived. Jay Gatsby was a man that "defie[d] oppressive society by trying to conform to it." (Hemis, 2010). Gatsby desires nothing more than to oppose the life society has offered him by becoming a man that contradicts everything he was during his youth. Wealth, power, respect are what Gatsby pines for and one day he is given the chance to begin again. To escape from the lack of wealth that James Gatz was given in life, he creates the persona of Jay Gatsby. Recalling Gatsby's transformation, Nick informs "he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen–year–old boy would be likely to invent, and to the conception he was faithful to the end" (98). It is important to understand that the colossal illusion that Gatsby creates in his youth never fades and the rest of his decisions in life all stem from the one illusion. Scott Fitzgerald keenly discerns as being materialistic gain. He demonstrates this through his characters and uses their actions to show their selfish desire that eventually leads to ruin. Fitzgerald ridicules the American dream through the characters in his work The Great Gatsby. He uses Jay Gatsby as a modern twist on the classic tragic hero to show us how Gatsby's American dream is flawed. While any Blue Jays enthusiast could tell that the price boost is due to the increase in the team's popularity, one with a working knowledge of economics could explain that the price increase is a factor of scarcity, demand & equilibrium. However, we must turn to economics to explain why demand has increased. Demand refers to how much of a good the market will buy at any given price. For this reason, it is important to understand that price changes, whether they be increasing or decreasing, do not change demand they change the quantity demanded. Jay Gatsby Influences The Great Gatsby is generally regarded as a story of love and tragedy, but in actuality, it was a story of a sad man chasing a baseless obsession with a woman and in trying to obtain this relationship, succumbing to immoral practices and ultimately dying alone. The author of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a widely acclaimed author who had a life of tragedy and loss that greatly impacted his writing. He was able to see not only the light–hearted, celebratory, and successful side of the American Dream, but also the negative effects of overindulging with alcohol and incessant partying. Part of the genius of the novel that Fitzgerald included was the two– dimensionality of the characters. Almost all of the characters lacked a human aspect of their characterization. Fitzgerald wrote them this way on purpose. He wrote the characters of The Great Gatsby the way that he saw people around him in his everyday life: shallow and vapid. Instead of filling the novel with well–rounded characters, he filled it with characters who at best made questionable decisions, even with good intentions in mind. His decision in doing this is extremely important to the themes portrayed in the novel. The Great Gatsby brought a lot of the social issues that were going on in the 20's into the light, and in a brilliant way. Writing Jay Gatsby as a static character was an integral part of the themes that Fitzgerald hoped to depict with the The Great Gatsby, and an extremely effective way to expose the general public of the 20s for whom Fitzgerald truly saw ... While all of these characters are equally susceptible to literary analysis, as they all have been deciphered thoroughly over the past 92 years by literary critics, teachers, and students alike, Gatsby in particular is a character that continues to mystify audiences today as everyone is trying to answer the same question posed by the novel: who is Jay Gatsby? This essay will hope to reveal the answer to this question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Nick first meets Gatsby in the novel, the first thing he notices is his smile. He describes it as "one of those rare smiles [that] concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood ... and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey." (Fitzgerald 52) This quote shows that Gatsby had quite the mesmerizing and enchanting influence on Nick, as he was clearly unable to turn away, which wholly paints Gatsby in an charismatic light. However, the last part of this quote shows that Gatsby is very self–aware. His smile knows that it can influence on people, and so it's almost tailored to fit everyone's exact needs in order to "understand" them. This lends insight into Gatsby's character being subtlety manipulative as he knows how to use his appearance to his advantage in order to get people to be interested in or trust him, as he does to Nick in this scene. So, physically Fitzgerald's description of Gatsby characterizes him as both charismatic and manipulative, and as this evidence is displayed relatively early in the novel, it can be assumed that these are some of Gatsby's primary and most prevalent character ... • 70. Jay Gatsby Analysis While Jay Gatsby was a man of mystery he was also one consumed with superficiality. We do not know much about him until we delve deeper into his background and how it affected him his whole life. Growing up in poverty inclined him to view a wealthy lifestyle with hungry eyes, willing to do anything to achieve it, not thinking twice about the consequences. Wealth was one of many goals Jay Gatsby set in his lifetime, but it was not the most important one. Daisy Buchanan was his last goal and his longest one at that. For Jay Gatsby, Daisy served as nothing more than a trophy, a chase, and a means to an end for his American Dream. Daisy Buchanan: the woman of every man's dreams, loved by many, but not for the reason any woman should want to be loved. Daisy was loved for her status, serving as a desired trophy wife not just by Gatsby but by many other men as the narrator, Nick, explains: "'Her voice is full of money,' he said suddenly. That was it. I'd never understood before. It was full of money––that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals' song of it...high in a white palace the king's daughter, the golden girl..." (Fitzgerald 120). Right off the bat, Gatsby knew her voice sounded like the thing he had wanted since he was young boy: money. To Gatsby, Daisy was just another form of money. She was something for him to show off and something to say that he had what was coveted by many other men as Nick tells us when he writes: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Driven by vengeance and the mistaken belief that Gatsby had killed Myrtle, Mr. Wilson proceeded to murder Gatsby and then himself. While miscommunication is often lauded as a lazy way of driving the story onwards, in this case it fits perfectly. Jay Gatsby's life was a lie, and it was fitting that it would end over one as well.
