The Civil War of 1861–1865 is a monumental piece of United States history. The brutal and barbaric
war lasted only a mere 4 years, but drastically changed the course of history and determined whether
the nation would abolish slavery or remain a tainted hypocritical nation of bondage. During the early
1800s the United States was a nation divided amongst two groups; Abolitionists were against anti–
slavery and were typically in the northern region, while their opponents who were proslavery were
in the southern region. Following the ratification of the Constitution, many issues were left
unresolved. The predominant argument amongst the two was slavery, and the latter was whether the
nation would be a dissolvable confederation of sovereign states or an indivisible nation with a

Man has been held against his will by another since the beginning of recorded history. Those held
against their will have sought to be free of the constraints imposed upon them by another. However,
there were some who were in bondage able to obtain freedom through a process that became known
as manumission. Manumission is the liberating of a slave from bondage. It is the formal act of
freeing one from slavery. In South Carolina, as with several other states in the Deep South, slaves
could be manumitted by one of two ways. Manumission could be given privately by an individual or
it could be done officially by state law. Private manumission was rare in most states, and was
restricted, but it did happen from time to time. Manumission was not an easy task to accomplish;
private manumission in fact was a rare occurrence in most states. Some slaves were freed by the last
will and testament of their owners, for faithful service, from masters freeing their slave mistresses
and children from their sexual relations, or by some meritorious deed. Attaining freedom in the
Deep South by 1810 it was almost impossible to manumit slaves. Most slaves yearned for freedom,
but very few obtained it. Those that attained this freedom achieved it through one of three means:
manumission, through a last will and testament, or legislative laws. A small number were even able
to hire themselves out for pay after the workday for the master ended and earn enough money to buy
their freedom.

Abstract
This paper reviews the ongoing crime of present day slavery, now known as human trafficking. With
over an estimated 700,000 of human trafficking victims within the United States, this report focuses
on the 7 main types of human trafficking, including labor and sex trafficking, common victims, and
the history surrounding the prevention of this crime. As with many types of crimes against
humanity, this is a behind doors crime; the perpetrators prey on the "unwanted" or the already
missing of society, take advantage of the naïve, those looking for the opportunity for a better future,
and then the actual coercion and force to perform unwanted sexual acts or labor occurs within the
privacy of criminals' home or business. Greater awareness of such crimes may be the biggest tool in
their prevention.

Desiderius Erasmus, believed to be the illegitimate son of a Priest named Gerard, was born around
1466 in the Netherlands. He is also believed to have been born with a different name, and his
birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made sure he had
a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years old. However,
when Erasmus's parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly believed that he
should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal relationship with God but was
opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty eventually forced Erasmus into a
monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest. He then became the secretary for
Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him to travel across Europe for the next

Forced labor and human trafficking are some of the forms of slavery in the modern day. Although
the world has made several strides in ending human trafficking, several factors have played a big
role in ensuring that trafficking is still carried on. The ILO describes forced labor as the work and
services offered by a person unwillingly; on the other hand human trafficking is the transport and
recruitment of people through coercion with the aim of exploiting them. The continual practice of
human trafficking is attributed to certain factors such as poverty and greed. According to ILO, the
profits generated from forced labor amount to 150 billion dollars. These profits are made from the

Every year, thousands of women, men, and children get caught up in human trafficking. Human
trafficking is when different kinds of labor are forced upon typically work labor or sexual
exploitation. People can get trafficked in their own country and abroad. Human trafficking consists
of three core elements, which are the action, the means, and the purpose. The action means the
recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons. The means includes threat of or
use of force, deception, coercion, abuse of power or position of vulnerability. Lastly, the purpose is
always exploitation. The exploitation can include, but is not limited to, sexual exploitation, forced
labor or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.

violent and sadistic, using threats, lies, bondage debt, or other forms of coercion to force people into

These two people can be related in a way because they both dream of others living amongst whites
and to live in a place where the living conditions are better, where a plant can survive. There are
other similarities between Mama and Martin Luther King Jr., for example another similarity would

Humanity has known since the dawn of history, multiple forms of slavery and it varies from society
to another. As long as people thought that slavery ended, never to return, they go back and sneak
into our communities in severe forms by human trafficking crimes.
When humanity eliminated the phenomenon of human slavery, it returned in different pictures and
forms, combining them enslaving people, through the recruitment, transportation, transfer of people
by force and threat, and using and exploiting them in different ways.
Among the victims of human trafficking crimes, there are those who are subjected to sexual
exploitation, labor exploitation, and removal of organs. These crimes also include the recruitment of
children, forced and early marriage, and forced marriage. Trafficking in persons is a national, global
and international phenomenon, at the same time, where they are moving across the border between
the states by organized crime gangs.
Human trafficking ranks in third place, after drugs and arms trade, in terms of the amounts of money
involved. It is a form of slavery, a violation of human rights, and constitutes a crime against the
individual and the state together, and the crime that affects human security and is the security of the
state alike. It also represents a threat to the sovereignty and security of nations, and a serious
violation of the global economy.
