Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place
For many people there is a sweet smell, a pleasing photograph, the familiar sound of happiness that
bring them back to a place full of childhood images. In my life, I was lucky enough to have traveled
to some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have swum with the dolphins in crystal blue sea of
Phuket Thailand and watch golden ray of the sunshine set behind mount Fuji in Japan. However, no
places earth will compare to the loveliness of my childhood paradise, a place I called home. Barbara
Kingsolver writes, "I have a place where all my stories begin," and my story began at a lake house
located on the water edge of Little Toad Lake, Minnesota. (Kingsolver 939). It is where I spent half
my life with my dog (Spike), sister, mom, and dad, through the hot summer days and freezing winter
months. The house was built on the side of a steep hill leading down to a beach front lake. The main
entrance had a big double iron door which lead into the living room overlooking the lake. The main
living area had several big windows which let in a brilliant of sunlight onto the dark walnut floor.
The fireplace mantle displays a big moose head that my dad shot on his hunting trip to Alaska (his
prize possession). My favorite place of the house would be the kitchen. That's where all my lessons
of cooking started. Thank you to my mom for teaching me the value of cooking. If it wasn't for her I
would be eating ramens every day at college. Oh, the memories we had at the lake house. In the
spring, my mom, sister, and I go on long walks in the woods to go mushroom hunting because who
doesn't love free food. I remember making mushroom soup for the first time and almost burning my
hands off because I forgot to turn the stove down to low and the pot was overflowing onto the floor.
I could still remember the facial expression on my mom's face, let just say she was not a happy
camper. One summer day, my sister and I were out fishing with my mom on the pontoon and we
were catching a lot of fish and out of nowhere it started pouring rain. My mom started the pontoon
and guess what? We ran out of gas in the middle of the lake. It took as over two hours to paddle
back to shore but thank goodness it stopped raining. To this day we still

Melinda Monologue
"William! Get back here! You know that's Melinda's land!" Carefree young William raced through
the field, closing in on Melinda´s apple orchard. Melinda was the evil fairy who owned 25 acres just
outside the town. On her land was an orchard. In this orchard grew the finest apples in all of
England. These large, sweet apples were desired by any who laid eyes on them. The only problem
was Melinda... She cursed anyone who dared step foot on her land, especially her cherished apple
orchard.
William had known that it was Melinda's land, but as soon the the innocent boy laid eyes on the
apples he couldn't help himself. He dashed through the field, and into the apple grove. Immediately,
William began pulling apples off the tree, and devouring them. ... Show more content on

When she arrived home she made a tea with the flowers, as the medicine man had instructed her.
Picking her son up, Sarah pinched behind the viper's head, forcing his mouth open. She then took
the tea and poured it down the snake's throat. Quickly letting go, she then watched as the venomous
snake turned back into the little boy she had always known.
"Thank you mummy! Thank you so much for getting me back!" William burst, embracing his
mother.
"Of course dear, I love you, and forgive you for your mistake. I'm so happy to have you back."
Death Adders
The death adder's scientific name is the acanthophis.
The snake Cleopatra used to kill herself in the legend was a death adder.
Death adders are found throughout Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands.
A bite can cause death within six hours, as well as respiratory arrest and paralysis.
Without treatment, about 50% of bites have been lethal.
Death adders also prey on other snakes.
Death adders have a small worm–like tail they use to lure in prey.
The original nickname for the death adder was the "deaf adder", because it was thought they could
not hear.
The death adder does not hunt, but rather camouflages itself, leaving it's worm–like tail exposed,
and lures in predators.
The death adder can strike, and return back to it's strike position in a world record time of less than

Symbols And Symbols In Ancient India
SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT & WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE "Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings,
ideas or qualities. It's done by investing signs & symbols and their possible meanings. In short,
symbolism is the system of symbols and representation." In early Indian architecture, symbols were
widely used to invoke different meanings. Symbols had mythical as well as philosophical meanings
bestowed upon them. So these symbols embody more a religious purpose than an artistic–aesthetic
purpose. Decoding the different meanings of a single symbol itself is problematic. A single symbol
itself carries a variety of meanings which should be understand along with myths, stories as well as
the context in which it is placed. Also people interpret it with their ... Show more content on

Basilisk Research Paper
Basilisks, also known as the 8th wonder of the world, are some of the finest creatures alive today.
These extravagant creates are covered head to toe in slimy, yet elegant, grey scales giving the
Basilisk a layer of amour that is practically impossible to pierce. With its snake–like body, a basilisk
can swim at jaw–dropping speeds of upwards of 80 mph. They can slither on land for short periods
of time before having to return to water. A basilisk head resembles one of a dragon. It has a massive
jaw equipped with razor–sharp teeth, perfect for ripping its prey's head off. Weighing over 2,000
tons, a basilisk can slam its weight on a land animal, instantly crushing it, and drag it back to water
to eat. The first recorded Basilisk finding

Sea Mink Research Paper
Sea minks are now extinct but were once ranged from Casco Bay, Maine in the south to as far north
as New Brunswick, Canada. Their main habitats are coastal regions. Sea minks are usually confused
with the American mink, but the sea mink is bigger. Sea minks are on average 914mm but the
American mink is 580–700mm, so there is a good difference in size. Also the male sea minks are
larger in size compared to the females. Their fur is a reddish dark brown, and it is not known if their
fur changes during the summer and winter. There are many ways that this animal could have become
extinct. Besides humans there were no major predators known to kill this animal. The main reason
for it becoming extinct was hunting it for its fur. There was no law on how many you could catch
and kill. Another is that the young sea minks couldn't stay alive because the parents either got
trapped or killed. Putting a law on how many you could trap and kill could have possibly been one
way to save this animal. Another one could be to have a hunting season for this animal. So that
when its not hunting season the animal has time to breed. If the people didn't like having a hunting
season then somebody could have made a breeding farm so that there is a place for all the young sea
minks to grow up. When the baby sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. The eastern Massasauga is a small thick–bodied venomous
rattlesnake, averaging a length of about 2 feet. It is grey or light brown with large chocolate brown
botches on its back and sides. The eastern Massasauga rattlesnake has been a candidate species for
listing under the Endangered Species Act since 1999 (64 FR 57535 57547, December 25, 1999)
(USFWS 2015t).
The preferred habitat for this species are wet areas such as river bottomlands, floodplains, wet
prairies, and marshes. However, relatively drier habitats are often used in summers. They feed
primarily on small rodents, but may also consume frogs, other snakes, and nesting birds. Breeding
generally occurs during summer or early fall, although it can occur ... Show more content on

Rikkki Tikki Gi Movie And Movie Analysis
Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the
world around them and mongoose are so curious that they rarely get frightened, as also explained in
the Rikki–Tikki– Tavi story. People around the world might know that every mongoose has to fight
a snake once in a lifetime since mongoose like to eat snakes. Although some mongooses like to eat
insects, lizards, birds, and rodents. While others like the Indian mongoose like to eat snakes
especially cobras. Mongoose is the name for 29 out of 34 species located in southern Eurasia and
Africa. Rikki–Tikki–Tavi the book, was created by Rudyard Kipling while the movie of Rikki–

The story only gives brief descriptions, but the movie adds or gives more detail to the setting. The
story states that, "One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow..."(Kipling 143).
While the movie represented the "high summer flood" as a thunderstorm, in a jungle( movie 00:21).
If it was a high summer flood, then why would the movie include thunder noise or the noises of
scarred animals(movie 00:29). This three evidence points out the difference of how a movie
represents the wording of the story. In conclusion the setting of the story changes a little because the
movie specifies the setting. Thirdly, the resolution of the story and the movie doesn't change,
because both are part of the same story, if the resolution were to change, the story wouldn't make
sense. Both medium resolutions are about what Rikki– Tikki did to defeat Nagaina, like killing her
eggs. As the text shows, " Nagaina saw that she had lost her chance of killing Teddy, and the egg lay
between Rikki– Tikki's paws"( Kipling 154). Another piece of evidence is shown in the movie,
where Rikki– Tikki smashes the eggs, but keeps the last egg and shows the egg to Nagaina( movie
19:07). The resolution also has to do with how Nagaina died or how the text states never came back.
As told by the story " his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her–and
very few mongooses, however wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole"(
Kipling 155). As

Examples Of Reversal In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Aristotle defines reversal in a tragedy as, "The change of fortune in the action of the play to the
opposite state of affairs; just as has been said; and this change, we argue, should be in accordance
with probability and necessity" (Aristotle 19). In Zora Neale Hurston's Sweat, Delia, the wife, is
abused by her husband throughout the story. Although she is oppressed by Sykes, her Husband,
Delia stands up for herself and contests his power. According to Aristotle's definition of reversals,
power constantly moves back and forth between Sykes and Delia throughout the story. Delia and
Sykes have been married for over fifteen years, yet two months after their marriage Sykes started
abusing her. That being said, it wasn't always like that; Sykes at one point was afraid that Delia was
going to leave him. Sykes, before he was married, was described by the townspeople as, "He useter
eat some mighty big hunks uh humble pie tuh git dat lil 'oman he got. She wuz pritty ez a speckled
pup! Dat wuz fifteen yeahs ago . He useter be so skeered uh losin' huh, she could make him do some
parts of a husband's duty. Dey never wuz de same in de mind" (Hurston 4).
Sykes fifteen years ago was a completely different man than he was now. Power was reversed back
then, like the townspeople said, he used to be so scared of her leaving, she could make him do parts
of a husbands duty. Comparing that to his current complex, she can't even make him hold a door for
her now. He harasses her constantly,

The Causes And Effects Of Alien Species In Japan
Alien species have been a huge issue in Japan, and not only Japan but the whole world. Alien
species are animals, plants or any living thing that are not originally in that country, but people bring
them over. Alien species can damage other animals, plants or any living thing that originally was
there. They can break ecosystem and can affect the environment. There are many alien species in
Japan that are causing trouble. Alien species can harm the ecosystem, but how do they get there? We
are the reasons they come into different countries. Animals such as ants can not swim the ocean and
come to Japan. They come because people bring them.
One of the alien species in Japan are the small asian mongoose. Mongoose are mammals that are
originally from India. They mainly eat rats, birds, insects and small mammals. The reason mongoose
were imported to Japan was because of snakes called yellow–spotted pit viper. They wanted to

San Antonio Zoo
Wow! That's so cool. How many are there? The date is July 14 and we started our day about 8:30
am. We had plans to go to zoo at 11. My whole family was going.
First we went to go eat breakfast. Then we went back to the hotel to get ready. Now we're ready to
head off to the San Antonio Zoo. At first it wasn't that cool. There were basic zoo animals then there
were some cool ones like Caribbean Flamingos, bears and their snake collection was amazing. The
first animals my sister and I wanted to see was the monkeys. The monkeys would swing from the
trees and the vines. They were amazing. The monkeys are just like hairy humans. They would watch
us as we watched them. The baby monkeys were so cute trying to keep up with the rest of the
monkeys. The gorillas were so big. They just sat around acting like they didn't even notice anybody
was looking at them. The chimpanzees are really smart. They knew when the zookeepers were about
to come feed them and would just sit and stare at the entrance waiting. Next, we went to the African
Life exhibit. They had African wild dogs and dwarf mongoose. The dwarf mongooses are so cute.
They had little ears and small paws with little nails. We stayed there forever it felt like. My sister
wanted to take one home but they wouldn't let her. Next was the lions they were so amazing. We
watched the guy feed them and it was so cool how they would throw the meat and the lions would
catch it. I loved watching the lions eat

Compare And Contrast Reptiles And Amphibians
Reptiles and amphibians are two species of animals. They have been around for millions of years
before we were even thrive. Amphibians were some of the first vertebrates to ever walk the Earth.
They evolved from a species of prehistoric fish. Reptiles began to appear million years ago. They
evolved directly from a species of amphibians. In other words, they are closely related and have the
same ancestor. Many amphibians and reptiles are similar, even a number of people may still confuse
several species of amphibians with reptiles and vice versa. For example, a number of people still
mistaken salamanders as reptiles. While salamanders have similar appearance as lizards, a number
of people still unaware that salamanders are not reptiles.
One of the common perceptions regarding reptiles and amphibians are their associations with bodies
of water. Both of these animal families are cold–blooded animals; meaning that their body
temperature is the same as air and water around them. Reptiles and amphibians are mainly tropical
animals. They are the inhabitants of lakes, rivers and ponds, although a number of reptiles may be
sea and desert dwellers as well. Several species of reptiles and ... Show more content on

Book Report On ' The Japanese Tales '
In the Japanese Tales, translated by Royall Tyler, the observation that snakes function as agents of
karma is valid. In order to teach this Buddhist theme, snakes can be portrayed with a broad range of
abilities and personalities to maintain a system of cosmic justice. Consequently, the imagery of
snakes is seen as complex and paradoxical from tale to tale through their ways of delivering justices.
However, snakes are not only agents of karma, but can also be agents to teach the consequence of
sexual desires. This essay will show the complex characterization of snakes in order to express the
consequences for certain behaviors such as dishonesty, lack of devotion to Buddhism, and lust.
While snakes are seen as agents of karma in Red Heat, they are also portrayed as a creature with
strong vengeful and evil personality toward those who express dishonesty and lack of devotion to
Buddhist vows. As illustrated in Red Heat, a pair of monks sets themselves up for karmic
repercussions by accepting hospitality from a lustful widow. This gives a chance for the widow to
target one of the monks to be her sexual partner, which placed the monk in a situation to commit
more misdeeds. The monks' behavior demonstrates a lack of devotion to protecting their vow to
remain in chaste, which was to stay away from sexual interactions with women (Tyler 160). When
the sexual pursuit occurred, the monk told the widow, "If I suddenly break my vow, we'll suffer"
(Tyler 160).

Argumentative Essay On Bull Fighting
Bull Fighting has been a tradition in Spain for centuries. "Bullfighting traces its roots to prehistoric
worshiping and sacrificing of bulls. The killing of a sacred bull is called tauromachy and was a
central iconic act of the Mithras" (Total Spain 2016). It has become a part of the Spanish culture and
due to this, it is seen as art and tradition to people. Fans do not look at bull fighting as a sport but
instead view it as a ritualistic event that conveys artistic expression and also view it as a form of
dance. It is argued that this an important part of the Spanish culture and because of this some see
nothing ethically wrong in the situation. It is a hard argument to fight when you try to argue against
a cultural belief. Though bull ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bull fighting has been made illegal in most countries and this shows how most people view this act
as inhumane. It is even a controversial issue in Spain, the country in which holds the tradition. When
you see an animal do a trick for you, you may think that it is amazing an animal can do that, but the
training in some cases that animals go through to perform those tricks is inhumane. Snake charming
is when a snake appears to dance to the music of a flutist. How the flutist gets the snake to do this is
where the problem occurs. Physical abuse is the way the trainer gets the snake to act in this matter
(manner?) and the snake is moving in fear of the moving flute (Tiplady 2013). Another type of
animal training that involves abuse is when it comes to dancing bears. The bears are taken from their
mothers at a young age and put through unnecessary pain. The young bears are castrated and have
their canines removed. A rope is then is inserted through their muzzle and the pulling of the rope is
what causes the bear to dance (Tiplady 2013).
Circuses began as small shows based on equestrian acts but have evolved into large shows that
involve multiple species of animals and acts. The use of the animals in the circus has become a
controversial issue, mainly towards the treatment of the elephants. Specifically involving the ethics
of taking the animal out of its natural habitat,

According to the text, a man placed in a life threatening situation decides to chanted the Kannon

Delia and Syke Essay
Zora Neale Hurston's short story "Sweat" is about a woman, Delia who is physically and
emotionally abused by her husband, Sykes, whose actions she struggles to overcome towards her.
Through all the abuse, Delia takes pride in her hard work and her religion. In this story, Hurston
uses religions and moral symbolism that controls the character's actions throughout the plot. Delia is
a hard working woman who uses her faith in God to guide and protect her from her husband's
physical and emotional abuse. She, as a protagonist, is physically weak but yet spiritually strong.

He is very abusive towards his wife and takes advantage of Delia's hard work by spending her
money on Bertha, his lover. He doesn't go to church with Delia, and makes fun of her attending

Above all the evilness from Sykes, Delia's strength lies in her religion and her humility towards her
husband, in the end, victorious over his brutal strength and attitude. In the beginning of the story,
Delia was very tolerant of her husband's pranks and malicious threats. Being strong towards her
religion, she would still attend church every Sunday and pray every night before she goes to bed.
Towards the end of the story, Delia's tolerance towards Syke's actions begins to change and she
becomes more aggressive towards him. She starts talking back to him and draws an iron skillet and
strikes a defensive pose, which Sykes is in shock, coming from her. Also towards the end of the
story, Sykes lets loose a poisonous snake knowing Delia is afraid of them. Delia then sees the snake
in her basket and leaves it loose for Sykes. At the end, thanks to karma, the snake bites Sykes on the
neck and Delia refused to help while he is dying. In the story, Hurston uses symbolism, in which
some of them are religious. One the symbols in the story is Delia's sweat. The sweat represents her

I approached the front door, I was greeted by a gigantic, inflatable snake that welcomed eager
attendees, much like a theater shows previews to excited audiences waiting to see a movie. My
uneasiness immediately set in. Once I entered the open, airy room, I was stamped with a turtle on
my hand. There was no turning back now. The room had no prominent smell (to my surprise) and

the Native species from reproducing or kill their young. They can get to the place they are invading

Forgiveness In Marinere's View Of Sea Snakes
Similarly, the Marinere gains partial forgiveness when he expresses love towards the sea snakes in
his description of their beauty, and the prayer he says for them (IV. 275–279). The Marinere
struggles with the love aspect of this pattern of justice as he struggles with viewing the sea snakes,
he has no true regard for them and does not possess the ability to view them in a positive way. This
reveals itself in his early view of the sea snakes, "And a million million slimy things," (IV. 230).
Additionally, his shooting of the Albatross is an indicator that the Marinere lacks love and respect
for creatures and other humans prior to the anguish he faces after shooting the Albatross (I. 79–80).
Supporting evidence for this is in the Marinere's

Analysis Of Paul Lisicky 's ' A Little Murder ' And ' Bunny '
Paul Lisicky is an American author who bases many of his stories on human struggles, death, and
anger. He is known for his fiction and his memoirs. Lisicky was born and raised in Cherry Hill, New
Jersey. He earned his master's degree in English from Rutgers. He has taught creative writing at
several universities, such as New York University, Sarah Lawrence College, and Cornell University.
Lisicky has received many awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the James
Michener/Copernicus Society and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Lisicky stories have
become quite popular, such as "Beachtown", "A Little Murder", and "BUNNY". They are all
completely different stories, which do not relate to one another, but they are all equally good stories
to read. Lisicky focuses on stories that have a very dark and complicated life.
Character
One of Lisicky writing piece who has a strong connection to character development was
"Beachtown" talks about a lady named, Ruby. Ruby is the main character and according to the story,
there is evidence that she might be someone who thinks negatively about everything in the world.
An example of her thoughts would be in the first few sentences, "The birds can go elsewhere. The
maritime forest? Let it burn to the ground. The palms along the causeway can go up with it. The
spiders, the fleas, the rats, the snakes: any living creature that lives in the leaves. They can burn up
too."( At the end of her thinking process, Lisicky

Jeff was a college dropout and he lived with Hillary Clinton {his mom} since he dropped out of

Mosasaur Evolution
The dominant oceanic species of the Cretaceous period was the reptilian predator, the Mosasaur. The
Tyrannosaurus Rex of oceanic fauna was a 56 foot behemoth. While there is some debate between
experts about the mosasaur's place in the pecking order of the cretaceous period, it is fairly well
accepted that mosasaurs were in general dominant to the sharks of the same period. This is the
accepted truth because mosasaurs averaged a greater size then the sharks of the time. There are
obviously a few violators of this size disparity but the mosasaur is still believed to have been
dominant. The mosasaur is generally described as being a bit like a cross between a giant monitor
lizard and a snake. Its body was shaped similarly to modern day monitor ... Show more content on

I want to finish up by talking about why we love mosasaur. Mosasaur is the "sexy" marine reptile
species. It was massive, it was predatory, and it was dominant. These are all things that we, as
human beings, love. We love to look at a giant like mosasaur and imagine how terrifying it must
truly have been in life. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love him,
we tend to make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic World we
see a gigantic mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just not
accurate. Mosasaurus was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover the
mosasaur depicted in Jurassic World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually was.
Misrepresentation like this has led to mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up to. To give
you an idea of how large Jurassic World's mosasaur was in comparison to actual mosasaur I have
attached Figure 3 on page 6. Another reason that we love mosasaur so much is that we know a lot
about it. The fossil record that exists for mosasaurus is pretty large because of the sheer number of
mosasaurs that existed when they were dominant. There are thousands of remains that have been
found. The first mosasaur skeleton was found in the Netherlands before any dinosaur remains had
been discovered. The discovery of the mosasaur led to a new age of understanding

Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus
Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it
compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial
infections. This negative–sense, single–stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can
be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such,
in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease.
Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is
possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a
group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were
originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself
is an RNA virus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be
between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of
30°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted
between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often
transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through aerosols, such as
sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may be spread through
feces. It can also be

Sykes, like everybody else, is gointer reap his sowing" said Delia Jones (Hurston 1024). This belief
comes true for Delia Jones in a short story "Sweat" by Zora Neale Hurston. In this story "Sweat"
Hurston illustrates the obnoxious life of a religious African American woman, Delia who continually
suffers from oppression by her wicked husband, Sykes and explored the struggle between good
(Delia) and evil (Sykes). Fortunately, at the end all the misdeeds of Sykes results in his death by
being trapped in his own tactic to scare Delia with a rattlesnake. The story reveals a sense of revenge
ignited in a desperate life of Delia because of Sykes oppression, which eventually led her to live an
independent life.
From the beginning of the story, Delia's relationship with Sykes is unusual with lots of conflicts and
a sense of revenge. Hurston has characterized Delia as a hard working wash woman who works
diligently to support her family. On the other hand, Sykes is reckless person who has failed to
provide for his family. Although, Sykes does not have a pinch of feelings for Delia, she has been
bearing his mistreatment for fifteen years. Once on a Sunday night at eleven o'clock, Delia was
sorting clothes that she collected on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sykes enters and scares her with a

Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala
In Naga–Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from 'The Serpent Lover'
which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992–1993). This tale was later
collected in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997.
The deviation made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus:
Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl
who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of
magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani's house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old
woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani's house and is not described as a blind woman. In the
original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves
everything on the will of God. She says, " let them be happy with anyone he wants", so long he
accepts her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red.
There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the
bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake
approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi's house by transforming himself as her
husband–with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy
of Kamakshi is first observed and

The "Sea Snake"  We have been staying in Punta Cana for almost a week now. Time flies by fast

any lifetime experience that we may encounter. WAIT HUH!? YOU BELIEVED THAT!?
Obviously, we just wanted to collect seashells. I mean, it is a lifetime experience technically,

"tragic event" myself if I hadn't experienced it! It had only been 5 minutes and the "tragic event"
happened. Her eyes widened! My jaw dropped! Something was slithering around our legs. And that
something was fast. I took one look around and guess what I saw. A scaly, long but thin, fish thing!
My first 8–year–old instinct was to jump into Jasanta's arms. Obviously, I was an 8–year–old. And

"Hurry Alyssa! Come here!" I jumped over the rope and almost tripped, yelling, "I'm coming! Wait

could have told us! Because of this, I don't go to beaches anymore. Besides, they are filthy anyways.
Pools were the way to go for me! And that was the first, and hopefully only, vacation I want to

Imagery of Snakes in Macbeth Essay
In the biblical book of Genesis, Eve is tempted by a serpent to commit an ungodly act of eating a
forbidden fruit. As a result of the snake's temptation, Eve eats the fruit, resulting in the presence of
worldwide sin and the downfall of perfection. From this story of Adam and Eve, the figure of the
snake has become generally associated with temptation, evil, and cynicism. William Shakespeare
employs this symbolic imagery of snakes in Macbeth, to enhance the story of the rise and fall of
Macbeth's power. For poetic and playwright purposes, Shakespeare uses serpentine imagery to
reveal the malevolence of characters, and portray the threatening position of the throne, all while
provoking a heightened emotion of fear and tragedy from the ... Show more content on

This struggle of loyalty vs. ambition correlates with Eve's biting of the fruit, which instantaneously
fills her with sin. Eve's ambition was to obtain knowledge of the world, yet in order to achieve it,
she was forced to go against her God. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth's incentive is power, which in this
case would be a seat on the throne. In both cases, evil is a required side effect to gain their desired
qualities. And this evil desire approaches both characters in the form of a serpent.
Following Lady Macbeth's "unsexing", the most descriptive use of serpentine imagery is revealed.
Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan. By doing so, she uses a metaphor of a snake to
portray the Macbeth's future evil actions.
To beguile the time,
Look like the time; bear welcome in your eye,
Your hand, your tongue: look like th' innocent
flower,
But be the serpent under't. (1.5.64–67).
This simile is very similar to the cliché "snake in the grass," which implies a stealthily treacherous
and surprise action. In this passage, Lady Macbeth explains that in order to succeed, they must act
normal around their guests, and conceal their evil desires. The snake thus represents Macbeth's
hidden ambition, and more literally, Lady Macbeth's plan of action.
However, the serpent, to which Lady Macbeth metaphorically speaks of in act one scene five, is not
only these evil desires of Macbeth. It also represents the threat that Macbeth possesses to Duncan.

Eyes in Steinbeck’s The Snake Essay
Eyes in Steinbeck's The Snake Eyes, both human and animal, appear as a predominant motif in John
Steinbeck's "The Snake." Eyes serve not only a descriptive function, but signify two different modes
of looking. One mode, embodied by Doctor Phillips, is scientific; the other, embodied by his female
visitor, is bestial. Doctor Phillips uses sight to exert control over his environment; the woman's way
of looking proves more powerful, however, by achieving a truer understanding of the irrational
impulses that govern the natural world.
The description of Dr. Phillips' eyes and the eyes of the woman qualify the two opposing worlds
they represent. Dr. Phillips, who represents the scientific world, has "mild" eyes (74). The adjective

Doctor Phillips not only cages his specimens, but controls the very process of life itself. He initiates
the fertilization process with the starfish, and then kills the specimens in batches so that each stage
of the procedure can be mounted on a microscopic slide. The microscope is an optical device, an
extension of the doctor's authoritative gaze. Yet the microscope also mediates natural sight,
suggesting distance between the doctor and the objects of his study. Dr. Phillips has the eyes of "one
who looks through a microscope a great deal" (74), implying that the only way he can understand
the nature world is through the distortion of a scientific device.
The conflict between the woman and the doctor is initiated when she refuses his offer to "look"
through the microscope (76). It is not that the woman is uninterested in the starfish; rather, she is
rejecting the scientific point of view that the microscope represents. The woman employs an entirely
different point of view, one closely matched with that of the snake. The woman's "look" and the
snake's "look" are described in almost identical terms: the woman has eyes that "[don't] seem to look
at anything" (81), while the snake has eyes that "seem to look at nothing" (73). The phrase "seem
to," again, suggests the doctor's subjective interpretation, his own inability to understand their
mutual mode of looking. These

Close Reading of "What the Snakes Brings to the World" by...
"What the Snake Brings to the World" is a 2002 poem by the Canadian poet Lorna Crozier. The
poem is free verse, with four stanzas of 6, 4, 4 and 9 lines respectively. The poem is riddled with
Biblical allusions, with the "snake" being its focal point, making extensive comment on the nature
and consequences of the aforementioned snake. A dominant reading of the poem outlines the
duplicity of the nature of 'evil' and 'sin' and related consequences. An alternate reading of the poem
conveys the idea of the human progression reflected by post–lapsarian linguistics. Finally, a resistant
reading attacks the very nature, role and impacts of the Judaeo–Christian tradition, claiming it to be
fault–laden.
The primary, dominant, idea being conveyed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the poem confirms that without the snake that is modern linguistics, "we'd have to live
with the singular of everything", expressively oppressed by the lack of freedom within dated
language systems that existed before the Fall of Man. However, there is possible ambivalence within
in poem, as the final word is "truth" with a capital 'T', a letter previously sidelined along with its
association to dated and useless language systems. This may possibly suggest that there is in fact
room for pre–lapsarian linguistics, but perhaps only within a Biblical context.
A resistant reading of the poem uncovers the idea that religion, specifically the Judeo–Christian
religious tradition, is intrinsically harmful and retrogressive in nature. If the 'snake' is interpreted as
a synecdoche for Judaeo–Christian religious tradition as a whole, a profoundly negative opinion of
such an ideology is formed throughout the poem. Without the 'snake' that is this religion, there
would be no "pain and suffering". The poem asks, "what could bear such a weight", interrogating
the conscience of religion, implying guilt on its behalf. Furthermore, the imagery suggested in the
second stanza surrounding the snake's "shadow" evokes negative ideas concerning the nature of the
religion, which is further bolstered by its ability to "separate itself" from this shadow, and to "move

The myth of Medusa is one of the most told myths throughout history. It seems like a simple idea of
how society perceives ugliness. The myth may be saying that truly hideous people deserved the
monstrous things that are coming to them, yet there is more to the story and image of this woman.
People have to look into what happened to her that society perceives her as hideous.Society has to

There are some images that one can use to show Medusa, so it depends on what one wants to talk
about. The image I picked is of Medusa's head cut off on a shield (Gill, N.S.). The problem here is
that Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful woman
who has snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as ugly. One
reason is because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many snakes. On her
head, is looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes, Natrix Tessellate,
which are venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate snakes and fear them. In
many cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form of one in the Garden of Eve
to seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is driven out of the Garden forever
("Are snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes?" ). The image of a snake makes many
shiver in fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a distrustful manner. Most of Ancient
Greek believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to trust them.
Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which is
of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. Snakes were said to have shown the natural cycle of
birth, death, and rebirth. In Greek myths the shedding of their skins and by getting new skin it shows

Snakes of Time in Dante's Hell Essay
"Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit" (Romans 3:13). Snakes have been a
universal symbol of fraud in literature since "The Fall," when God transformed Satan into a
beguiling snake and "[c]ursed" Satan to slide "on [his] belly" for all eternity for his deception (Alter
41). Dante uses snakes in his epic poem, the Inferno, to tie the fraudulent nature of thieves to their
punishment in the seventh bolgia of the eighth circle of Hell. Snakes have metaphorically slithered
through time and shed, taking on new appearances as deceivers in society. In 2005, they revealed a
new face, Olatunji Oluwatosin, an identity thief. From his base in Los Angeles, Olatunji Oluwatosin

Decker arranged a sting operation to catch this culprit. Caught in this operation, Oluwatosin
"dropped the paperwork he had just received" in terror and was taken to the Los Angeles Country
Superior Court, where he received an appropriate punishment of "ten years in prison" under charges
of identity theft (O'Harrow, Mimoso). Similarly, Dante's Inferno forces the "naked and terrified"
thieves to run from venomous snakes with their "hands behind their backs," "without a hope of
hiding" (Alighieri 251). The thieves who once were concealing themselves are now exposed.
Moreover, with Oluwatosin's numerous stolen identities, his crimes resemble the "chelydri and
jaculi, phareans, cenchres, and head–tailed amphisbenes" of Libya (251). Oluwatosin assumed these
identities to camouflage himself, much as snakes do in their environment. However, once
apprehended, both the thieves of Dante's fourteenth century Italy and today's society must endure
punishment. As the United States court system sentenced Oluwatosin to ten years in prison, Dante
Alighieri arranges a more extreme punishment, where snakes "thrust" between the legs of sinners
and form a "knot" in the groin (253). This punishment illustrates the idea of contrapasso, or a fitting
punishment. Oluwatosin's life of crime tied a knot of confinement since his former self could never
be restored and his rights were limited in prison. Furthermore, the punishment reveals the

Snakes instill fear in humans more than an animal alive. We are superior to the snakes, however;
with just one bite from a venomous snake, we might just say our goodbyes. Are there venomous
snakes in the sea? The answer is yes. The deadliest one is the Beaded sea snake. Three venom drops
from this snake kill eight people. Fortunately, their fangs cannot penetrate a diver suit easily. If only
they are threatened, that's when they strike. Australia is the country that possesses a wide variety of
venomous snakes. Cases of snake bites only come from the Eastern Brown Snake yet it has 50

Theme Of A Narrow Fellow In The Grass By Emily Dickinson

23 October 2014
Happiness is a Mystery Happiness is found everywhere throughout the entire world. Happiness is
within everybody emotionally because it keeps someone in a good mood. It is important to stay
happy because that person can be able to live longer. In addition, when someone can think of
happiness, they can think of nature. However, when comparing, "Nature" is what we see" and "A
Narrow Fellow in the Grass" by Emily Dickinson (650–652), she symbolize here emotion towards
nature mysteriously, theoretically, and factual. First, Dickinson describes nature mysteriously. The
narrator is explaining about what a person can see outside in the world. In the beginning of the story,
the poem explains about her love and gratitude towards nature. Dickinson continues the poem by
picking out certain things. "The Hill–––the Afternoon, / Squirrel–––Eclipse–––the Bumble Bee, /
The Bobolink–––the Sea, / Thunder––– the Cricket" (650). Therefore, she sees a hill, a bobolink, a
squirrel, and a bumblebee. Later, she explains that, "Nature––– is what we hear" (650). Clearly, she
hears a bobolink, which is a bird, the sea, Thunder and lightning, and a cricket making noises. Her ...

Salvation On Sand Mountain Analysis
Salvation on Sand Mountain The climax of Salvation on Sand Mountain, author Dennis Covington's
account of his own exploration into the bizarre and small world of snake–handling, is when
Covington himself takes up the snakes for his first (and last) time. As he describes in great detail, the
experience of snake–handling for Covington was similar to that of an awakening. Covington felt no
fear, as the snake became an extension of himself and the entire room faded to white. As Covington
begins to come back into himself, the sound, smell, and heat of the church all return, and he hands
the snake back to Carl. The most climatic scene in the work ends. As I read this scene, though, my
own views and understanding of religion began to complicate because I am accustomed to thinking
of religious in the context of the quiet of the Catholic Church and not the chaos of the snake–
handlers' church. Thus, I also became skeptical of Covington's experience due to his previous
affinity for danger.
Being a religious person, as I read, I compared and contrasted my experiences in church with those
of the snake–handlers. Though there are distinct differences to contrast, when thought about more
deeply, there is also a similarity between the two denominations. The glaring differences include the
snake–handling versus no snakes; the loud, chaotic music versus quiet, serene music; and the
shouting and proclaiming God's name versus quiet prayer to God. However, the one sentence that

Why Do Cold Blooded Animals Exist
Snakes are known to have no legs and long body. They belong to Squamata group (reptiles group
that have scales). They are considered the most adaptable animals to their environtments. They can
be found at almost all over the world: in the mountains, forests, plains, neighborhoods, deserts,
farms, until the sea. Although, they will increasingly rare in colder place because they are cold–
blooded animals. Cold–blooded animals need warmth of the sun to keep their body temperature.
That is why they are not existed in both Polar Regions.

Service Dogs Essay
Animals, such as dogs have been service animals for a very long time, and helped many people that
suffer from many diseases. But, dogs aren't the only service animal out there. There can be animals
like reptiles that also can help people that are struggling with diseases and or disabilities. This is
how animals can help us with our everyday lives in many unique ways.
Dogs help humans in many different ways. In the article "how the US military's use of dogs affects
their mental wellbeing" by Ellen Briat, it talks about how dogs help people in the military. In the
first paragraph it says "From 2008 to 2009, Gina served a six–month tour of duty in Iraq. She was
tasked with going door to door and flushing insurgents out after US marines threw ... Show more

Yes, reptiles! Most service animals that are known to help humans are dogs. But reptiles such as
snakes can also be very helpful for humans. They can also improve people's lives in very unique
ways. In the a newspaper "Can a snake be a service animal?" by Nancy Bartley she states in the 3
paragraph "Redrock the boa, Greene says angrily, is a service snake who alerts him to pending
seizures by giving him a hug." This shows that reptiles such as snakes can be helpful because since
he always has Redrock at his side his seizures won't be so unexpected because Redrock will help
him and he would know not to get close to people. But if Redrock wasn't there his owner his
seizures won't be that painful, which makes a snake a good service animal. Another reason why
snakes can be a good service animal because Nancy states in the "The outcry was intense – with
some 4,500 messages, more response than has been received for any other DOJ topic in recent
memory, spokesman Alejandro Miyar said." This shows that reptiles can be good or even great
service animals because if reptiles can give medical attention to 4,500 people it shows how useful a
reptile can be. After this event the president himself shut down DOJ before they could stop people to
use reptiles as service animals. This shows how useful not only a snake but any reptile could be a
service animal and make a positive change in a person's everyday

Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place

  • 1. Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place For many people there is a sweet smell, a pleasing photograph, the familiar sound of happiness that bring them back to a place full of childhood images. In my life, I was lucky enough to have traveled to some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have swum with the dolphins in crystal blue sea of Phuket Thailand and watch golden ray of the sunshine set behind mount Fuji in Japan. However, no places earth will compare to the loveliness of my childhood paradise, a place I called home. Barbara Kingsolver writes, "I have a place where all my stories begin," and my story began at a lake house located on the water edge of Little Toad Lake, Minnesota. (Kingsolver 939). It is where I spent half my life with my dog (Spike), sister, mom, and dad, through the hot summer days and freezing winter months. The house was built on the side of a steep hill leading down to a beach front lake. The main entrance had a big double iron door which lead into the living room overlooking the lake. The main living area had several big windows which let in a brilliant of sunlight onto the dark walnut floor. The fireplace mantle displays a big moose head that my dad shot on his hunting trip to Alaska (his prize possession). My favorite place of the house would be the kitchen. That's where all my lessons of cooking started. Thank you to my mom for teaching me the value of cooking. If it wasn't for her I would be eating ramens every day at college. Oh, the memories we had at the lake house. In the spring, my mom, sister, and I go on long walks in the woods to go mushroom hunting because who doesn't love free food. I remember making mushroom soup for the first time and almost burning my hands off because I forgot to turn the stove down to low and the pot was overflowing onto the floor. I could still remember the facial expression on my mom's face, let just say she was not a happy camper. One summer day, my sister and I were out fishing with my mom on the pontoon and we were catching a lot of fish and out of nowhere it started pouring rain. My mom started the pontoon and guess what? We ran out of gas in the middle of the lake. It took as over two hours to paddle back to shore but thank goodness it stopped raining. To this day we still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Melinda Monologue "William! Get back here! You know that's Melinda's land!" Carefree young William raced through the field, closing in on Melinda´s apple orchard. Melinda was the evil fairy who owned 25 acres just outside the town. On her land was an orchard. In this orchard grew the finest apples in all of England. These large, sweet apples were desired by any who laid eyes on them. The only problem was Melinda... She cursed anyone who dared step foot on her land, especially her cherished apple orchard. William had known that it was Melinda's land, but as soon the the innocent boy laid eyes on the apples he couldn't help himself. He dashed through the field, and into the apple grove. Immediately, William began pulling apples off the tree, and devouring them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thank you so much for getting me back!" William burst, embracing his mother. "Of course dear, I love you, and forgive you for your mistake. I'm so happy to have you back." Death Adders The death adder's scientific name is the acanthophis. The original nickname for the death adder was the "deaf adder", because it was thought they could not hear. The death adder does not hunt, but rather camouflages itself, leaving it's worm–like tail exposed, and lures in predators. The death adder can strike, and return back to it's strike position in a world record time of less than 0.15 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbols And Symbols In Ancient India SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT & WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN ARCHITECTURE "Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings, ideas or qualities. It's done by investing signs & symbols and their possible meanings. In short, symbolism is the system of symbols and representation." In early Indian architecture, symbols were widely used to invoke different meanings. Symbols had mythical as well as philosophical meanings bestowed upon them. So these symbols embody more a religious purpose than an artistic–aesthetic purpose. Decoding the different meanings of a single symbol itself is problematic. These extravagant creates are covered head to toe in slimy, yet elegant, grey scales giving the Basilisk a layer of amour that is practically impossible to pierce. With its snake–like body, a basilisk can swim at jaw–dropping speeds of upwards of 80 mph. They can slither on land for short periods of time before having to return to water. A basilisk head resembles one of a dragon. It has a massive jaw equipped with razor–sharp teeth, perfect for ripping its prey's head off. • 9. Sea Mink Research Paper Sea minks are now extinct but were once ranged from Casco Bay, Maine in the south to as far north as New Brunswick, Canada. Their main habitats are coastal regions. Sea minks are usually confused with the American mink, but the sea mink is bigger. Sea minks are on average 914mm but the American mink is 580–700mm, so there is a good difference in size. Also the male sea minks are larger in size compared to the females. Their fur is a reddish dark brown, and it is not known if their fur changes during the summer and winter. There are many ways that this animal could have become extinct. Besides humans there were no major predators known to kill this animal. The main reason for it becoming extinct was hunting it for its fur. There was no law on how many you could catch and kill. Another is that the young sea minks couldn't stay alive because the parents either got trapped or killed. Putting a law on how many you could trap and kill could have possibly been one way to save this animal. Another one could be to have a hunting season for this animal. So that when its not hunting season the animal has time to breed. If the people didn't like having a hunting season then somebody could have made a breeding farm so that there is a place for all the young sea minks to grow up. When the baby sea ... Rikkki Tikki Gi Movie And Movie Analysis Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the world around them and mongoose are so curious that they rarely get frightened, as also explained in the Rikki–Tikki– Tavi story. People around the world might know that every mongoose has to fight a snake once in a lifetime since mongoose like to eat snakes. Although some mongooses like to eat insects, lizards, birds, and rodents. While others like the Indian mongoose like to eat snakes especially cobras. While the movie represented the "high summer flood" as a thunderstorm, in a jungle( movie 00:21). If it was a high summer flood, then why would the movie include thunder noise or the noises of scarred animals(movie 00:29). This three evidence points out the difference of how a movie represents the wording of the story. In conclusion the setting of the story changes a little because the movie specifies the setting. Thirdly, the resolution of the story and the movie doesn't change, because both are part of the same story, if the resolution were to change, the story wouldn't make sense. Both medium resolutions are about what Rikki– Tikki did to defeat Nagaina, like killing her eggs. As the text shows, " Nagaina saw that she had lost her chance of killing Teddy, and the egg lay between Rikki– Tikki's paws"( Kipling 154). Another piece of evidence is shown in the movie, where Rikki– Tikki smashes the eggs, but keeps the last egg and shows the egg to Nagaina( movie 19:07). The resolution also has to do with how Nagaina died or how the text states never came back. As told by the story " his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her–and very few mongooses, however wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole"( Kipling 155). • 15. Examples Of Reversal In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston Aristotle defines reversal in a tragedy as, "The change of fortune in the action of the play to the opposite state of affairs; just as has been said; and this change, we argue, should be in accordance with probability and necessity" (Aristotle 19). In Zora Neale Hurston's Sweat, Delia, the wife, is abused by her husband throughout the story. Although she is oppressed by Sykes, her Husband, Delia stands up for herself and contests his power. According to Aristotle's definition of reversals, power constantly moves back and forth between Sykes and Delia throughout the story. Delia and Sykes have been married for over fifteen years, yet two months after their marriage Sykes started abusing her. That being said, it wasn't always like that; Sykes at one point was afraid that Delia was going to leave him. Sykes, before he was married, was described by the townspeople as, "He useter eat some mighty big hunks uh humble pie tuh git dat lil 'oman he got. She wuz pritty ez a speckled pup! Dat wuz fifteen yeahs ago . He useter be so skeered uh losin' huh, she could make him do some parts of a husband's duty. Dey never wuz de same in de mind" (Hurston 4). Sykes fifteen years ago was a completely different man than he was now. Power was reversed back then, like the townspeople said, he used to be so scared of her leaving, she could make him do parts of a husbands duty. There were basic zoo animals then there were some cool ones like Caribbean Flamingos, bears and their snake collection was amazing. The first animals my sister and I wanted to see was the monkeys. The monkeys would swing from the trees and the vines. They were amazing. The monkeys are just like hairy humans. They would watch us as we watched them. The baby monkeys were so cute trying to keep up with the rest of the monkeys. The gorillas were so big. They just sat around acting like they didn't even notice anybody was looking at them. The chimpanzees are really smart. They knew when the zookeepers were about to come feed them and would just sit and stare at the entrance waiting. Next, we went to the African Life exhibit. They had African wild dogs and dwarf mongoose. The dwarf mongooses are so cute. They had little ears and small paws with little nails. We stayed there forever it felt like. • 23. Book Report On ' The Japanese Tales ' In the Japanese Tales, translated by Royall Tyler, the observation that snakes function as agents of karma is valid. In order to teach this Buddhist theme, snakes can be portrayed with a broad range of abilities and personalities to maintain a system of cosmic justice. Consequently, the imagery of snakes is seen as complex and paradoxical from tale to tale through their ways of delivering justices. However, snakes are not only agents of karma, but can also be agents to teach the consequence of sexual desires. This essay will show the complex characterization of snakes in order to express the consequences for certain behaviors such as dishonesty, lack of devotion to Buddhism, and lust. While snakes are seen as agents of karma in Red Heat, they are also portrayed as a creature with strong vengeful and evil personality toward those who express dishonesty and lack of devotion to Buddhist vows. As illustrated in Red Heat, a pair of monks sets themselves up for karmic repercussions by accepting hospitality from a lustful widow. This gives a chance for the widow to target one of the monks to be her sexual partner, which placed the monk in a situation to commit more misdeeds. The monks' behavior demonstrates a lack of devotion to protecting their vow to remain in chaste, which was to stay away from sexual interactions with women (Tyler 160). When the sexual pursuit occurred, the monk told the widow, "If I suddenly break my vow, we'll suffer" (Tyler 160). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has become a part of the Spanish culture and due to this, it is seen as art and tradition to people. Bull fighting has been made illegal in most countries and this shows how most people view this act as inhumane. It is even a controversial issue in Spain, the country in which holds the tradition. When you see an animal do a trick for you, you may think that it is amazing an animal can do that, but the training in some cases that animals go through to perform those tricks is inhumane. Snake charming is when a snake appears to dance to the music of a flutist. How the flutist gets the snake to do this is where the problem occurs. Physical abuse is the way the trainer gets the snake to act in this matter (manner?) and the snake is moving in fear of the moving flute (Tiplady 2013). Another type of animal training that involves abuse is when it comes to dancing bears. The bears are taken from their mothers at a young age and put through unnecessary pain. The young bears are castrated and have their canines removed. A rope is then is inserted through their muzzle and the pulling of the rope is what causes the bear to dance (Tiplady 2013). Circuses began as small shows based on equestrian acts but have evolved into large shows that involve multiple species of animals and acts. While there is some debate between experts about the mosasaur's place in the pecking order of the cretaceous period, it is fairly well accepted that mosasaurs were in general dominant to the sharks of the same period. This is the accepted truth because mosasaurs averaged a greater size then the sharks of the time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I want to finish up by talking about why we love mosasaur. Mosasaur is the "sexy" marine reptile species. It was massive, it was predatory, and it was dominant. These are all things that we, as human beings, love. We love to look at a giant like mosasaur and imagine how terrifying it must truly have been in life. Unfortunately because of our love for mosasaur and the reasons we love him, we tend to make it into more than it truly was. For instance in the popular movie Jurassic World we see a gigantic mosasaurus leap out of the water like an orca to devour a shark. That is just not accurate. Mosasaurus was far too large to propel itself out of the water like that. Moreover the mosasaur depicted in Jurassic World was incredibly more gigantic than mosasaur actually was. Misrepresentation like this has led to mosasaur having a larger than life image to live up to. To give you an idea of how large Jurassic World's mosasaur was in comparison to actual mosasaur I have attached Figure 3 on page 6. Another reason that we love mosasaur so much is that we know a lot about it. The fossil record that exists for mosasaurus is pretty large because of the sheer number of mosasaurs that existed when they were dominant. There are thousands of remains that have been found. • 47. Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections. This negative–sense, single–stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be ... Fortunately, at the end all the misdeeds of Sykes results in his death by being trapped in his own tactic to scare Delia with a rattlesnake. • 51. Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala In Naga–Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from 'The Serpent Lover' which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992–1993). This tale was later collected in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997. The deviation made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus: Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani's house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani's house and is not described as a blind woman. In the original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves everything on the will of God. She says, " let them be happy with anyone he wants", so long he accepts her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red. There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi's house by transforming himself as her husband–with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy of Kamakshi is first observed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Sea Snake Poem The "Sea Snake"  We have been staying in Punta Cana for almost a week now. Time flies by fast when you are having fun. Am I right? We decided to head to the beach. Or what I thought was the beach. It was Saturday and we were supposed to leave on Monday. We didn't want to miss out on any lifetime experience that we may encounter. WAIT HUH!? YOU BELIEVED THAT!? Obviously, we just wanted to collect seashells. I mean, it is a lifetime experience technically, sooooooooooooooo............ For a while my cousin, Jasanta, decided to swim with me. My sister, Lexi and my mom went somewhere. I'm not sure where though. There was a rope bordering the area of the water we were supposed to be in. You were allowed to go past the rope, but you were warned. By the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jasanta was 18 at the time. Oh boy, I shouldn't have gone across that rope. That rope was the only thing protecting me from some sort of "tragic event". And trust me, I would have never believed this "tragic event" myself if I hadn't experienced it! It had only been 5 minutes and the "tragic event" happened. Her eyes widened! My jaw dropped! Something was slithering around our legs. And that something was fast. I took one look around and guess what I saw. A scaly, long but thin, fish thing! My first 8–year–old instinct was to jump into Jasanta's arms. Obviously, I was an 8–year–old. And 8–year–olds have an imagination. She didn't catch me. She was running for her dear life screaming, "Hurry Alyssa! Come here!" I jumped over the rope and almost tripped, yelling, "I'm coming! Wait for me!"  When we reached the shore I realized it wasn't a beach. It was an ocean! The life guards could have told us! Because of this, I don't go to beaches anymore. Besides, they are filthy anyways. Pools were the way to go for me! And that was the first, and hopefully only, vacation I want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Imagery of Snakes in Macbeth Essay In the biblical book of Genesis, Eve is tempted by a serpent to commit an ungodly act of eating a forbidden fruit. As a result of the snake's temptation, Eve eats the fruit, resulting in the presence of worldwide sin and the downfall of perfection. From this story of Adam and Eve, the figure of the snake has become generally associated with temptation, evil, and cynicism. William Shakespeare employs this symbolic imagery of snakes in Macbeth, to enhance the story of the rise and fall of Macbeth's power. For poetic and playwright purposes, Shakespeare uses serpentine imagery to reveal the malevolence of characters, and portray the threatening position of the throne, all while provoking a heightened emotion of fear and tragedy from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This struggle of loyalty vs. ambition correlates with Eve's biting of the fruit, which instantaneously fills her with sin. Eve's ambition was to obtain knowledge of the world, yet in order to achieve it, she was forced to go against her God. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth's incentive is power, which in this case would be a seat on the throne. In both cases, evil is a required side effect to gain their desired qualities. And this evil desire approaches both characters in the form of a serpent. Following Lady Macbeth's "unsexing", the most descriptive use of serpentine imagery is revealed. Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan. By doing so, she uses a metaphor of a snake to portray the Macbeth's future evil actions. To beguile the time, Look like the time; bear welcome in your eye, Your hand, your tongue: look like th' innocent flower, But be the serpent under't. (1.5.64–67). This simile is very similar to the cliché "snake in the grass," which implies a stealthily treacherous and surprise action. In this passage, Lady Macbeth explains that in order to succeed, they must act normal around their guests, and conceal their evil desires. The snake thus represents Macbeth's hidden ambition, and more literally, Lady Macbeth's plan of action.

  • 60. Eyes in Steinbeck’s The Snake Essay Eyes in Steinbeck's The Snake Eyes, both human and animal, appear as a predominant motif in John Steinbeck's "The Snake." Eyes serve not only a descriptive function, but signify two different modes of looking. One mode, embodied by Doctor Phillips, is scientific; the other, embodied by his female visitor, is bestial. Doctor Phillips uses sight to exert control over his environment; the woman's way of looking proves more powerful, however, by achieving a truer understanding of the irrational impulses that govern the natural world. The description of Dr. Phillips' eyes and the eyes of the woman qualify the two opposing worlds they represent. Dr. Phillips, who represents the scientific world, has "mild" eyes (74). The adjective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doctor Phillips not only cages his specimens, but controls the very process of life itself. He initiates the fertilization process with the starfish, and then kills the specimens in batches so that each stage of the procedure can be mounted on a microscopic slide. The microscope is an optical device, an extension of the doctor's authoritative gaze. Yet the microscope also mediates natural sight, suggesting distance between the doctor and the objects of his study. Dr. Phillips has the eyes of "one who looks through a microscope a great deal" (74), implying that the only way he can understand the nature world is through the distortion of a scientific device. The conflict between the woman and the doctor is initiated when she refuses his offer to "look" through the microscope (76). It is not that the woman is uninterested in the starfish; rather, she is rejecting the scientific point of view that the microscope represents. The woman employs an entirely different point of view, one closely matched with that of the snake. The woman's "look" and the snake's "look" are described in almost identical terms: the woman has eyes that "[don't] seem to look at anything" (81), while the snake has eyes that "seem to look at nothing" (73). The phrase "seem to," again, suggests the doctor's subjective interpretation, his own inability to understand their mutual mode of looking. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Close Reading of "What the Snakes Brings to the World" by... "What the Snake Brings to the World" is a 2002 poem by the Canadian poet Lorna Crozier. The poem is free verse, with four stanzas of 6, 4, 4 and 9 lines respectively. The poem is riddled with Biblical allusions, with the "snake" being its focal point, making extensive comment on the nature and consequences of the aforementioned snake. A dominant reading of the poem outlines the duplicity of the nature of 'evil' and 'sin' and related consequences. An alternate reading of the poem conveys the idea of the human progression reflected by post–lapsarian linguistics. Finally, a resistant reading attacks the very nature, role and impacts of the Judaeo–Christian tradition, claiming it to be fault–laden. The primary, dominant, idea being conveyed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end of the poem confirms that without the snake that is modern linguistics, "we'd have to live with the singular of everything", expressively oppressed by the lack of freedom within dated language systems that existed before the Fall of Man. However, there is possible ambivalence within in poem, as the final word is "truth" with a capital 'T', a letter previously sidelined along with its association to dated and useless language systems. This may possibly suggest that there is in fact room for pre–lapsarian linguistics, but perhaps only within a Biblical context. A resistant reading of the poem uncovers the idea that religion, specifically the Judeo–Christian religious tradition, is intrinsically harmful and retrogressive in nature. If the 'snake' is interpreted as a synecdoche for Judaeo–Christian religious tradition as a whole, a profoundly negative opinion of such an ideology is formed throughout the poem. Without the 'snake' that is this religion, there would be no "pain and suffering". The poem asks, "what could bear such a weight", interrogating the conscience of religion, implying guilt on its behalf. Furthermore, the imagery suggested in the second stanza surrounding the snake's "shadow" evokes negative ideas concerning the nature of the religion, which is further bolstered by its ability to "separate itself" from this shadow, and to "move on ... The image I picked is of Medusa's head cut off on a shield (Gill, N.S.). The problem here is that Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful woman who has snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as ugly. One reason is because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many snakes. On her head, is looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes, Natrix Tessellate, which are venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate snakes and fear them. In many cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form of one in the Garden of Eve to seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is driven out of the Garden forever ("Are snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes?" ). The image of a snake makes many shiver in fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a distrustful manner. Most of Ancient Greek believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to trust them. Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which is of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. • 66. Snakes of Time in Dante's Hell Essay "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit" (Romans 3:13). Snakes have been a universal symbol of fraud in literature since "The Fall," when God transformed Satan into a beguiling snake and "[c]ursed" Satan to slide "on [his] belly" for all eternity for his deception (Alter 41). Dante uses snakes in his epic poem, the Inferno, to tie the fraudulent nature of thieves to their punishment in the seventh bolgia of the eighth circle of Hell. Snakes have metaphorically slithered through time and shed, taking on new appearances as deceivers in society. In 2005, they revealed a new face, Olatunji Oluwatosin, an identity thief. Caught in this operation, Oluwatosin "dropped the paperwork he had just received" in terror and was taken to the Los Angeles Country Superior Court, where he received an appropriate punishment of "ten years in prison" under charges of identity theft (O'Harrow, Mimoso). Similarly, Dante's Inferno forces the "naked and terrified" thieves to run from venomous snakes with their "hands behind their backs," "without a hope of hiding" (Alighieri 251). The thieves who once were concealing themselves are now exposed. Moreover, with Oluwatosin's numerous stolen identities, his crimes resemble the "chelydri and jaculi, phareans, cenchres, and head–tailed amphisbenes" of Libya (251). Oluwatosin assumed these identities to camouflage himself, much as snakes do in their environment. However, once apprehended, both the thieves of Dante's fourteenth century Italy and today's society must endure punishment. As the United States court system sentenced Oluwatosin to ten years in prison, Dante Alighieri arranges a more extreme punishment, where snakes "thrust" between the legs of sinners and form a "knot" in the groin (253). This punishment illustrates the idea of contrapasso, or a fitting punishment. Oluwatosin's life of crime tied a knot of confinement since his former self could never be restored and his rights were limited in prison. Furthermore, the punishment reveals the ... Theme Of A Narrow Fellow In The Grass By Emily Dickinson Tremane Parker Larisa Platt ENG 102–02 23 October 2014 Happiness is a Mystery Happiness is found everywhere throughout the entire world. Happiness is within everybody emotionally because it keeps someone in a good mood. It is important to stay happy because that person can be able to live longer. In addition, when someone can think of happiness, they can think of nature. However, when comparing, "Nature" is what we see" and "A Narrow Fellow in the Grass" by Emily Dickinson (650–652), she symbolize here emotion towards nature mysteriously, theoretically, and factual. First, Dickinson describes nature mysteriously. The narrator is explaining about what a person can see outside in the world. In the beginning of the story, the poem explains about her love and gratitude towards nature. Dickinson continues the poem by picking out certain things. "The Hill–––the Afternoon, / Squirrel–––Eclipse–––the Bumble Bee, / The Bobolink–––the Sea, / Thunder––– the Cricket" (650). Therefore, she sees a hill, a bobolink, a squirrel, and a bumblebee. Salvation On Sand Mountain Analysis Salvation on Sand Mountain The climax of Salvation on Sand Mountain, author Dennis Covington's account of his own exploration into the bizarre and small world of snake–handling, is when Covington himself takes up the snakes for his first (and last) time. As he describes in great detail, the experience of snake–handling for Covington was similar to that of an awakening. Covington felt no fear, as the snake became an extension of himself and the entire room faded to white. As Covington begins to come back into himself, the sound, smell, and heat of the church all return, and he hands the snake back to Carl. The most climatic scene in the work ends. As I read this scene, though, my own views and understanding of religion began to complicate because I am accustomed to thinking of religious in the context of the quiet of the Catholic Church and not the chaos of the snake– handlers' church. Thus, I also became skeptical of Covington's experience due to his previous affinity for danger. Being a religious person, as I read, I compared and contrasted my experiences in church with those of the snake–handlers. Though there are distinct differences to contrast, when thought about more deeply, there is also a similarity between the two denominations. The glaring differences include the snake–handling versus no snakes; the loud, chaotic music versus quiet, serene music; and the shouting and proclaiming God's name versus quiet prayer to God. In the a newspaper "Can a snake be a service animal?" by Nancy Bartley she states in the 3 paragraph "Redrock the boa, Greene says angrily, is a service snake who alerts him to pending seizures by giving him a hug." This shows that reptiles such as snakes can be helpful because since he always has Redrock at his side his seizures won't be so unexpected because Redrock will help him and he would know not to get close to people. But if Redrock wasn't there his owner his seizures won't be that painful, which makes a snake a good service animal.
