Stanley Linton Application Letter Sample
Dear Linton Scholarship Selection Committee: Thank you for taking the time to review my application for the Stanley Linton Scholarship. I am a
senior at UW Oshkosh and have been involved in many areas of music on campus, including starting the a cappella group in 2012. Over the past 3
and a half years at UW Oshkosh I have been a choral & general music education major and have developed skills and philosophies that have shaped
my goals and aspirations in life. My number one goal in all aspects of my life is to cultivate, preserve, and further the field of music through music
education. It is a strong belief of mine that education is about innovation, not re–invention. In the future I hope to find ways to make music relevant to
all students; to find ways to connect the classroom a student's everyday academic and personal life. Another aspiration of mine is to teach music
abroad. This is something that I suspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these experiences is developing and implementing the music literacy curriculum for the Badger State Girl Choir with the help from Dr.
Kenneth Liske and Mr. Eric Britz. This has truly been a recent eye–opening experience in regards to applying the content that is learned in our music
education classes. I also have had the blessing to lead the a cappella group on campus since my freshmen year; this has not only allowed me to use
my practical skills like piano, theory, and aural skills, but it has allowed me to create a community of singers that are involved on campus and around
the community. Besides the direct education experiences, I have been an active role at my job on campus to create and implement training materials
for the IT technicians for Residence Life, and learned practical skills such as purchase orders and understanding institutional policies for hiring.
Because of these experiences, I believe that I am a viable candidate for the Stanley Linton Memorial

Research Paper On Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect 2 stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, and Brittany Snow. The film is a sequel to the 2012 surprise hit Pitch Perfect,
which followed the all female a cappella group, The Barden Bellas, trying to win a national collegiate a cappella title. Pitch Perfect 2 is also the first
feature film directed by co–star Elizabeth Banks.
Pitch Perfect 2 opens with the Bellas singing at The Kennedy Center for the President of the United States. In the crowd are John and Gail, the two a
cappella officials from the first movie, played by Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins, recording a podcast about a cappella and following the
success of the Barden Bellas. During the recording we learn that since Pitch Perfect the Bellas have won the national title two more times, and that
the performance for the President is the start of their national tour. On stage Fat Amy, played by Rebel Wilson, erupts from behind a curtain
performing a ribbon dance and hanging from the ceiling while singing Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball. As if on cue at the start of the chorus Fat Amy
experiences a wardrobe malfunction, and is exposed to the audience as well as the President. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John and Gail inform the girls that they are not allowed to participate in collegiate a cappella activities, induct new members, and that they would be

Analysis Of Another Thanksgiving Dinner
In Another Thanksgiving Dinner the author conveys how Hannah's relationship changes with her father throughout the story by using the character's
feelings and actions. During the first part of the story Hannah is not very excited to be spending thanksgiving wither dad, in the first paragraph it says
"Sounds really cool," Hannah replied politely, managing to smile at the thought of another Thanksgiving dinner with Dad, but she wasn't managing an
excellent job of smiling. This shows even though Hannah is happy she is spending time with her dad, she still is not very happy that she is missing
out on the other fun things she could if she wasn't with her dad. Also in paragraph one it states that "What would be really cool, she thought, would

The Concert At The Meyer Theater
On Wednesday, February seventeenth, I had the pleasure of attending Noteworthy's concert at the Meyer–Mclean Theater. Noteworthy is an a capella
group from Brigham Young University, and is composed entirely of female students. Though only one of the girls is a music major, all share an
incredible love of music, and it showed in their thoughtful, energetic performance. Rather than having a theme for their concert, the nine singers of
Noteworthy performed a wide variety of songs from different eras and genres of music. The one thing these pieces did have in common was their
instrumentation: that is to say, they had none. All of the noises needed to recreate each piece, whether it was jazz or pop, were produced from the
singers themselves. This style of music is called a capella. As with many types of music, a capella found its start in a religious setting. Around the year
seventy A.D., rabbis prohibited the use of instruments in synagogues in order to distinguish their rituals from those of the pagans. Then, in the first
century, monks created Gregorian chants, which were sung in monasteries and lacked instrumentation. They steadily rose in popularity through the
eleventh century, being spread throughout the world by the Catholic Church. Later on, during the colonization of the America's, African slaves took to
singing their native songs without instruments, as they were not permitted any. This tradition inspired the barbershop quartets of the early 1900's,
which often

Graduation Speech
Every time I go out on a stage I look at the small piece of paper in my music folder, one with hand written words that now hold so much meaning to
me. I think all the way back to the first time I sang in front of an audience and of the complete and utter disaster that it was. However, I also think of
how far I have come. It all started in fourth grade when my school had their annual school talent show. I had sang in the church choir with a group
of around twenty other kids, but this was different. I had practiced my song multiple times over, and had asked my friend to play the piano while I
sang. The day I walked into the school will never leave my memory. It was so tense you could taste the anticipation in the air. I walked in and sat in
my seat where I memorized the student I would come up after. Time seemed to speed up impossibly fast, and the next moment I was being called
onto the stage. The only sound I could hear was the pound of my heart, and my friend fuzzily asking in the background, "Do you want to go a cappella
when I turn the pages?" I nodded agreeably because I did not want her to know I did not know what the word meant. Now I know it's meaning is
"without instrumental music" ("A Cappella."). Too soon, we were standing on the stage, and I had started to sing the song. I thought everything was
going well until it came time for her to turn the page and she stopped playing. I waited patiently as she waited for me to sing. We were both waiting,
and the only sound

My Singing Journey
A friend from my childhood once told me "dream on, and sing louder". This friend pushed this saying deep into my heart until it made it seem as if it
kept my heart beating. I never really began to understand what she meant when she repeated this saying to me until she explained it. She said to me
that to dream on is to not give up, and to sing louder is to not let anyone take my voice away from me. Singing has always been a huge part in my life
from singing in talent shows to singing in the shower. My mother said that I never stopped singing. The journey of my singing began with my first
School of Rock program and is now being pursued on my churches worship team today. Before I start to tell you about my singing journey, I feel as
if I should explain why I started to sing in the first place. It all began when I was four years old, my older sister Kassidy would always, and I mean
always, be listening to music in her room and singing. As we grew up she learned how to play the guitar and how to write songs. She inspired me
to sing and I couldn't thank her enough for it. When my sister was 12 years old she started to get involved in this program named School of Rock.
When she would sing on that stage I constantly wished that I was her. I could not wait until I was in the 7th grade so that I could be a part of it as well.
The day eventually came and I was terrified. School of Rock is a program in which you get placed into bands by instructors, then you perform on

Pitch Perfect Analysis
Culture. That is a word that has a different and everchanging meaning around the world. In America, culture has changed dramatically over time. The
book Made in America by Claude S. Fischer, the quote, "America began as an unusually individualistic society–more precisely, a voluntaristic society,
[–]and only became more so," describes this change as a deepening of a specific type of society (Fischer, n.d.). A voluntaristic society is a group of
people who both believe and behave "as if individuals succeed through fellowship–not in egoistic isolation but in sustaining, voluntary
communities"(Fischer, n.d.). In the beginning, different races would be severely oppressed, as would people of different sexual orientation. Also,
women had a very specific role in society that was restricting. As time went on, however, these things changed. For people of different races, more
opportunities arose, and they began to get treated equally. People of different sexual orientation are also beginning to get accepted in society, and
women are now less restricted or stereotyped. The movie Pitch Perfect shows the cultural challenges faced today, primarily in women through body
shaming, family constructs, and gender inequality.
The movie Pitch Perfect is about a freshman in college, Beca, who would rather be out DJing than in college, until she discovers that she fits perfectly
in a group that she did not originally want to be in. Beca is going to Barden University, and is a more alternative

Essay about Music: The Change from Spiritual to Secular
The time between 1485 and 1660 marked a period of new beginnings for the people living in England; this time is known as the Renaissance. In
England, the people were challenging their past beliefs; where before the Renaissance, England thrived basing their lives, government, and music off of
God and his principles alone. During these one–hundred and seventy–five years, the English people started questioning their original principles about
religion and established a yearning for information and proof based off of science instead of God. This desire caused many changes to form in
England. The Renaissance period quickly became known as the rebirth of knowledge named by the change from God's knowledge to the knowledge of
man. The Renaissance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The masses in the religious services had to be sung a cappella in this specific order or it was considered a disgrace and ruined the sacred pieces. The
high priests of the Catholic churches were very strict on how the sacred music was sung and preserved. With the change at hand in spiritual music, the
Catholic high priests had to do something to correct the problems. The high priests felt that the secular feel and style of music that was becoming
evident in spiritual music was tainting the sacred message in these pieces. The Council of Trent was called into affect to address this reoccurring issue.
The Council of Trent lasted for eighteen years all of which used to decide the correct and just way to solve this musical predicament. The Council
deliberated on this topic and came to agreement that the reason for the issue was the "irrelevant attitude of the church musicians" (Augusta County
Public Schools). During the Council of Trent, certain instruments were banned from spiritual music, encouraging and a cappella style once again.
These instruments were forbidden because of the secular influence that was invading the purity of the sacred music of the bible. There was many
uprising that came from The Council of Trent and the decisions made. Many

The Evolution of A Cappella From Pentatonix to Home Free, to Straight No Chaser, all the way back to Rockapella, a cappella has be a major part in
America's music. A cappella music is anyone singing without the accompaniment of instrumental music. A cappella music was the first type of music
due to its lack of need for musical instruments. America's view of a cappella has changed throughout history, each year a cappella is getting
increasingly more popular. However, there once was a time when a cappellamusic was not just a type of music but the only available music. Three

made it more musically difficult for the performers and ultimately more entertaining for the audience. A cappella has been a popular way of singing

Informative Essay On Solo Vocal
"Hey everyone, I have a new unit to introduce!"
Ms. Adelmann, the choir teacher at Eagle Swift Middle School, was introducing the new unit in the choir. Lexi was waiting anxiously to see what
they were doing in her hard rough chair. Ms. Adelmann continues, "We are starting a new program called Solo Vocal. You will be learning two solos,
one different language song, and one English song, then out of those two, you will be choosing one of them to sing to the class. If you want to, you can
sing the solo also at our night Solo Vocal Festival. If you participate in the Solo Vocal festival, you might get a chance at a solo at our May and
March festival. For our different language song, we will be learning a song in German this year."

Music Concert # 1
On Thursday April 25, 2013 , I attended a jazz vocal concert at the Music Concert Hall. The first vocal ensemble opened up the performance with a
slow rhythmic song called Blue Skies. It began with vocals and I noticed a light auxiliary percussion and drum rhythm. Also, the bass guitarist used
walking bass and the piano and electric guitar joined in as well. The first song also consisted of two soloist Regina and Chantel who took the front
stage to show off their chops. After the solo performances they fell back into the vocal sections and finished off the song as a complete band. The
second performance had a piano opening which led to vocals joining in at the same time as the rhythm section. This performance ... Show more content

After this, a female soloist performed and as a whole group the song finished. The second vocal ensemble of the night started out with a song
which included a twelve bar blues, called " I use to know you". This performance consisted of the most combinations of solos of the night as well
as using an improvising style. The entire band started all together which led to a Trumpet solo. Then Jose on the Sax did his solo followed by the
pianist comping. Then the choir along with the band joined together to lead to a female solo which was particularly interesting since she was
scatting. The second performance of this ensemble was "Spring can really hang you up the most" which consisted of 3/4 time and 4/4 time. This
started with a female solo vocalist then a male one. The band as a whole played together and ended with a male solo scatting. The third and shortest
performance of the night was a vocal acapella piece, "Love walked in" which was short and sweet. The fourth performance of the night was a
Richmond Rogers piece. This had a rhythmic swing/salsa feel from the "Lady is a tramp". This started with the rhythm section, with the male vocalist
and horns. Then the female vocalist from the choir joined and concluded this piece. The fifth performance for the group was a sequel to voice stand an
acapella piece by Greg Jaspers. This song started with the choir using their voices as the instruments altogether. The final performance of the night was

Giovanni Pierluigi Da Palestrina Essay
My impressions of the music is that I feel this music would be played at a concert at a church or for a ceremony. My impression is that this song is
that it makes me feel calm and peaceful. The sounds of the chorus voices all in rhythm with each other just makes it so amazing. My impression on the
composer is that Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina took his time to make everything sound perfect for his music. I also like how he took the time to make
the words understandable by accentuating them so the music can be used for Catholics.
My impression on the style, which would be a cappella, which is when there is no instrumental in the song is that it sounded really good. I was
surprised when I found out that cappella chorus doesn't use instrumental music whatsoever. It sounded like there was but after listening to it again I
didn't hear it at all but the chorus. I like the style that it a cappella is usually six members only and are mostly all males, but I feel that I heard a
female singing in it. The reason why is because one voice is higher than the rest and it sounds more female than any of the other members in that chorus.

feel more beautiful and since its trained professionals singing the song it makes it even feel more for a church. The difference between the music

Music During The 1960's
1960's
Introduction During the 1950s, bands and solo artists were still discovering what type of genre they belonged to, as many genres could be mistaken
for others, such as Rock and Roll and R&B. During the 60s these types of music became more evident and artists now began to belong to certain
genres. With many controversial events taking place such as the assassination of President Kennedy musicians started writing music based on how
they felt and on how the society felt. These types of emotional songs had an affect not only on the artist but also on the people as well. It takes a lot of
talent for an artist or band to connect with his audience through music but the 60s was filled with that talent with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling
Stones, and The Beatles.

Where Was Monteverdi's Maestro Di Cappella?
It is apparent that musicians have been selected to maestro di cappella positions shown from the evidence of Monteverdi's experiences at Mantua.
Monteverdi in 1609, was asked to request the availability of a certain Galeazzo Sirena for him to serve as maestro di cappella for Prince Francesco
Gonzaga. Although he was worried shown in a letter, he wrote later questioning what would happen after the death of the Duke of Mantua, since the
prince would have the power to appoint whoever he chose as his director of music.
Through those times, Monteverdi was planning to have his brother installed as the prince's maestro di cappella. Even then, in the end, the fears of
Monteverdi became reality. In February 1612 the Duke Vincenzo died, and Prince

Music in the Rennaisance Era: A Cappella
Have you ever heard of music, with no instruments? Now you have! A cappella is the style of music that makes all sounds, instrumental or vocal,
with only their mouths. A cappella not a genre, but a style of music. A cappella has taken over the lives of many people. Karmin did a song named A
Cappella. Pentatonix was on the Sing Off. Because cappella has an in depth history, it has many people making a fortune, like Pentatonix and Karmin
and has many different ways to do it like genres, styles etc. A cappella originally started in the Renaissance Era. Songs written for the religion the
song is about, ws found. They examined it, and they saw that they wrote their songs were written for a cappella. Many religions were using a cappella
to sing their hymns. Religions like Christianity, Catholicism. Judaism, and even Muslim. The term A Cappella originally means "As in the church"
(For A Cappella) But today when we hear a cappella, we think of music with no instruments. People believe that if we sing a cappella when we sing
our hymns, that it is a more efficient way to worship our god(s). Christian a cappella had started later years of the 15th century. Due to most religions
not using instruments at all in their worship hymns, a cappella became known as the music without instruments.
A cappella has had a great impact in many people. It has given people basically fortunes. Many artists have made song, not in the style of worship, that
has become very popular.

minor mode, which keeps coming back in different variations. Thus, I think this movement is in the rondo form. After adagio, the mood of the piece
gets "brighter". Allegretto is in the minuet form and it is build upon themes similar to each other. These themes consist of parallel and contrasting
melodies. Texture–wise this symphony is homophonic. One can hear the different dynamics, but clearly it is not what this piece was written for.
Speed and virtuosity is in the foreground. After Adrian Butterfield showed the audience his virtuosic abilities, he turned his face again to the
orchestra and Cappella Antica joined them for the second time. We were back to Henry Purcell with My heart is inditing, Z. 30. This piece is at a

The Symbolism Of A Cappella Singing In The Bible
A Cappella Singing
New Testament Christianity is the religion of Bible authority. Paul wrote, "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord
Jesus..." (Colossians 3:17) "In the name of the Lord" means by the authority of the Lord. (Acts 4:7)
As a child of God, one is governed by the standard of faith (II Corinthians 5:7), and the Bible states that Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the
word of God." (Romans 10:17) Since faith comes by the word of God, where there is no word of God there can be no faith! And, without faith it is
impossible for one to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)
The fact that something is intended to be worship to God does not guarantee that it will please God. Cain's worship was not acceptable to God.
(Genesis 4:2–5) The people's offerings in Malachi's day were unacceptable to God. (Malachi 1:8) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cappella Chigi Essay
Beyond fiction, Into the Depths of Cappella Chigi
There isn't a specific year in history that could be pinpointed and said, "This is when the Renaissance started." The period of rebirth of the classic
ideas is what we, more fondly and famously identify as the period of Renaissance today. The European countries have been the central station for this
massively celebrated time of revival of knowledge either lost or forgotten. Italy hosted the birth of the personalities, the present knows as the
Renaissance Masters with Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, Fra Bartolomeo, Masaccio being some of the most prominent
figures. The period of Enlightenment that followed the Renaissance celebrated the ideas revived in its preceding era. Rationalism, Individualism,
Skepticism and so on were some of the key features of this age, also called the Age of Reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chigi family headed by Agostino Chigi, a family of wealthy bankers rose to be the wealthiest in Rome in the early years of the 1500s after steadily
increasing in influence through the late 1400s. Agostino was a parton to a man of legend, Raffaelo Santi, better known as Raphael, who was
appointed to design a mausoleum for the heirs of his family after being allowed to purchase a chapel in del Popolo by Pope Julius II. Raphael was a
man with works like the series of Madonnas and School of Athens to his name. Chigi Chapel started forming under the supervision of Lorenzetto
during the years of 1513–1514. Agostino and Raphael ill–fatedly died in 1520 leaving the construction incomplete. Inevitably the construction had
come to a near halt followed by slow progression. In 1650, Fabio Chigi undertook the role to restore his family's mausoleum by commissioning
Bernini to finish the task which a span of several more years before it was finally

My Uchicago Experience
UChicago then became the "evilest" university I knew. (I wondered how many people wrote about a mathematics test...) The wit and creativity are
something I have not seen in my education, where there are prescribed answers to the "thinking cap" questions. I believe education could be an
experience, an adventure, a journey; an endeavor to triumph over the "evilness" that challenges students to stretch their boundaries of thought and
imagination.
That adventure of a lifetime is uniquely a UChicago experience, where everyone shares a similar Core, studying Kant and Civilization Studies together
and discussing intellectually for hours on a common subject – a learning environment not any school can provide. I would become better–rounded,

Psalm 24 Analysis
Psalm 24 is performed by a tenor solo, SATB chorus, harp, organ, brass, and timpani. The introduction of part A is equal to a keg of musical dynamite
(made of the organ, timpani, and brass) exploding while causing listeners to look for the appearance of French knights on horseback. Pianissimo is
thrown into the moat of silence by the thundering brass accompanied by rolling timpani and bellowing organ. Following this fortissimo introduction,
verse one consists of French horns supporting the syllabic melody of the French tenors and basses with alternating fanfares. The second verse has the
same melody dependent on the vocal parts of the French. The brass regroup to carry the melodic charge in a more pronounced dramatic fashion while

The tenor solo is accompanied by the harp, organ, and French horns with mutes to continue the solemn melody from verse four. For verse six the
melody moves to a dreamlike texture with organum performed by the French tenors and basses supported by the harp, organ, and French horns
equipped with mutes. The conductor apparently finds and lights a keg of musical dynamite enhanced with the addition of the French sopranos and
altos. The explosion results in a modified section A with the French sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses leading the musical charge. Reflecting the text
describing strength, French tenors and basses, with timpani and brass accompaniment, dominate the melody in verse eight. Verse nine features the full
chorus singing a cappella for three phases while the instruments prepare to perform in fortissimo. Following the a cappella the instruments enter with
the continuance of the modified melody of section A performed in fortissimo then crescendos above fortissimo. Concluding the work, the instruments

The Influence Of Pentatonix's Music
If I were stranded on a deserted island, and could choose only one recording artist or band's music to be sent to me, I would choose Pentatonix's
music. Pentatonix is an acapella singing group made up of five members, who have been singing together since 2011 when they won "The Sing–Off"
competition ("Pentatonix") I would choose to bring Pentatonix's music because their many songs bring a feeling of happiness, inspire my own musical
performances, and bring to memory what I can do musically without physical items to aid me. Pentatonix is my first choice of music to listen to
because listening to their wide variety of songs make me happy, which is important in a situation where I would be all alone. Throughout my life I've

Figurative Language In Pitch Perfect Movie
Pitch Perfect is a music comedy film directed by Jason Moore. It was released on September 28, 2012 and it is set in the present. The movie mainly
revolves around Barden University showing us the environment of a campus and a college romp. It stars Hollywood's top actors and actresses
including Anna Kendrick (Beca), Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), Skylar Astin (Jesse) and more. The movie is in chronological order and the movie is about
a college with various a cappella groups and these groups will compete at a cappella competition which is the ICCA championships every year. The
Barden Bellas; an all–girls group and the Treblemakers; filled with good looking guys are the top 2 groups which makes it exciting during the
competition because they are both very competitive. However, the Bella's have never won the title and this makes the Treblemakers their biggest
rival. After the Bella's fail at the previous competition where Aubrey vomited during her solo, the group was forced to regroup and recruit new
singers. Beca is a new recruit for the Bella's and she made the tables turn

Examples of a figurative languages is Onomatopoeia. It is used when Cynthia was confessing about how she had a gambling problem after she broke
up with her girlfriend. Fat Amy reacted by saying "Whoomp there it is!" The use of onomatopoeia creates a sense of emotion. Moreover, idioms were
also used in this film. An example could be when Fat Amy was auditioning for the acapella group and after her performance, she said "crushed it".
She said that to convey a message that she felt that she performed really well. Foreshadowing was used at the very start of the movie where Aubrey
throws up during her solo in the ICCA's performance which then leads the group to fail. This foreshadows that the Bellas have to work hard to redeem

The Jewel Tone: A Concert Report
Since my sophomore year, I have been a member of my high school's coed a cappella group The Jewel Tones. That year we had begun working with
a completely new music director, specifically one following in the footsteps of an innovative woman who just finished her 16 year career at the
school. Everything was new and challenging. But, we decided to take on a new piece that was more daring than ever before.
Ithacappella, from a nearby college, had previously sang and arranged Fireflies by Owl City. We asked their permission to use the intricate
arrangement, and they excitedly agreed. It is protocol to select a soloist before working on the piece. I faced my fears, stood in front of the group, and

Who Is Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti?
Born on October 26, 1685, in Naples, Italy, Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti was the sixth child of Italian baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti and his
wife Antonia Anzaloni (Pagano, et al. n.d.). The year 1685 was also a notable period in the history of European music, Domenico Scarlatti's birth
occurred along with two other distinguished composers – Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. At the time of Domenico Scarlatti's
birth, his father Alessandro Scarlatti was Maestro di Capella of the royal chapel in Naples (Dent 1903) and was known for his operas, cantatas and
oratorios (Cummings 2014).

In 1704, Domenico resigned from his position as organist and joined his father in Rome, who then sent him to Venice in 1705 (Boyd 1987).
Domenico's time spent in Venice from 1705 to 1711 was minimally documented, leaving a gap for biographers to fill; it is however rumored that
Domenico Scarlatti was sent to Venice by his father to be taught by Francesco Gasparini (Boyd 1987). In 1711, Domenico Scarlatti worked for
Maria Casimira in Rome, moving quickly through the ranks and following in his father's footsteps, to earn the position of maestro di cappella by
1714 (Kirkpatrick 1983). Coincidentally during the same year of Domenico's appointment to maestro di cappella, Maria Casimira left for France,
opening a door for Domenico to connect with the Portuguese ambassador Marquis de Fontes (Pagano, et al. n.d.). In 1719, Domenico left his post at
St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and made his way to Lisbon where he was appointed Mestre de Capela for the Portuguese royal court (Kirkpatrick 1983).
One of his notable duties included teaching princess Maria Barbara, who would later go on to be Scarlatti's patroness for life – following her to her
new home in 1733 after her marriage into Spanish

Ridge A Cappella Choir Analysis
"The word "carry" must be eliminated from all our minds when we think of Ridge A Cappella Choir. That word "carry" actually has an extremely
negative impact on our attitude towards making fabulous choral music."
It is late November, the week before the first performance for our choir. Even though we've had ourmusic since June, we were woefully unprepared.
Each section, including mine, was wrought with apathy. Choir wasn't fun anymore.
Ever since I was accepted into A Capella Choir, I felt like the smallest fish capable of survival in the big pond. The seniors were actually good– they
practiced, and they have been members for 4 years; I could never aspire to even equal these larger than life figures. Rather than working with us

Chamber And Choir Music Analysis
What are the most obvious themes in Chamber and Choir music? The concert I went to was a concert by the students from CGCC. They started of
the concert with Jazz music, but I was unable to take notes on that because they were not exactly singing. It was more like an a capella except
without any words. The next portion of the concert was Chamber Singers. I was not very sure what a Chamber Singer was so I looked it up. Before I
looked it up, it seemed to me like it was a medium sized choir who quickly switch tempo and feature different solos. When I looked it up, it said that
Chamber Singer was a group of 8–40 singers who sing religious or classical songs. The second part was like the choir my class does, except more
complicated and more professional. I noticed that, although it was two different types of singing, they all had one thing in common, which was that
they all had some kind of form to send emotion to the audience to make them feel a certain mood. The pacing of the song along with the diverse
sections gives out emotion. The two emotions that where most obvious in all songs where the common emotions of sadness and happiness. The first
and third song I listened to where both from the Chamber Singers and they both gave a happy cheerful mood. The first one was Achieved is The
Glorious Work by Joseph Haydn and the third one was No Time by Susan Brumfield. They both gave out this happy vibe by having the different
sections sing at unique pace and being very

Key Factors Of The Division Over Instrumental Integration...
What were the key factors of the division over instrumental integration into worship? This paper will discuss the thought process behind the rejection
of instruments, explaining; why those who favored it chose to keep peace, why it was seen as impure worship to those who rejected it, and why it
was not ordained according to positive law. During the Stone Campbell movement, music was a strict topic because of its significant in worship to
God. Since the time that Europeans first arrived to North America, music has been a very crucial factor to the development and spreading of Christianity
. Christianity is known for the diversity of traditions, as well as the diversity of music expressions of these traditions. (Stowe, 2010) "The instrumental

McGarvey leads his argument by presenting as fact, the idea that,
...any part of the Jewish worship was discontinued by those who organized the Christian church, is a direct condemnation of it by the Spirit of God as
unsuited to the new institution. (Campbell 1865, 187)
This claim is unsubstantiated, therefore the entire argument is fallacious.
When a church of Disciples of Christ played its first instrument (a melodeon) in worship, it caused huge controversy. An elder of the church removed it
from the church one night and sold it because he saw it as unscriptural. A man named Huldrych Zwingli who was a well–known instrumentalists, also
rejected instrumental music and banned all playing of organs in worship. Under his influence, some of his followers went to their churches and
destroyed their organs. Reading Monroe Hawley's article, "Controversy in St. Louis," the "First Church" built a building that included expensive
commodities. One of which was a $3000 organ. (Hawley 1984, 4) Though it seemed like a blessing, it brought a debt upon the congregation, which
led to prompting members to actually rent pews. This caused a lot of commotion. A woman named Louise Hockday, along with many other members,
pushed to have the organ torn out and sold. But as a vote was made, the organ was decided to stay and members who opposed left. Because of this,
both sides of the controversy met to settle it on December 27th–30th, 1870.
Some of these arbitrators were Alexander Proctor,

Why Was Humanism Important In The Renaissance
Why is humanism such a big factor in past and present society? Humanism is an outlook of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than
divine or supernatural matters. For the Renaissance, humanism was a big cultural movement that brought thought of Greek and Roman thoughts.
Humanism was expressed in the Renaissance through the works of art, music, and literature. During the Renaissance, church music had an a big
impact because a lot of people were hardcore religious figures. A lot of these tunes were based on a cappella which is singing with no beat or music,
and some of the music did have instruments playing in the background.
Music embodied humanism because religion was huge to people back then and that is how people used to live during this time. Also during this time,
composers, seeing how many instruments have come about, started writing music to match up with an instrumental sound. Which was new to a lot of
people considering they hadn't heard anything other than a cappella music in their religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the renaissance, art wasn't a big deal, people painted and that was that. Since famous artists had come out with paintings that no one has
seen anything like it before, many were surprised by the way art was making a change. Artists would go into churches and paint what ever knew
design they had in mind and people would go and admire the astonishing art work of for example, Michelangelo who painted the sistine chapel.
Humanism was connected through art by getting people to start the drawings and paintings like they have today, as well as money to come in with
all the famous paintings. Before the Renaissance, no one knew what a 2 point perspective drawing was, until artist Paolo Veronese painted, "The
Marriage at Cana" which was a 2 point perspective drawing. A lot of painters connected with people on a spiritual way by painting religious figures,

Krista M. Tucciarone's Pitch Perfect
Each year, as many incoming freshman prepare for college, their ideas of what it will be like stem from a variety of college–centered movies. In Krista
M.Tucciarone's "Cinematic College", themes that give an unrealistic expectation of college are analyzed. These themes of male and female
relationships, campus destruction, and pranks differ from the themes of social issues found in Pitch Perfect. Upon analysis of Pitch Perfect, directed by
Jason Moore, I found that characters socialized by making jokes about sensitive subjects: gender roles, race, and sexual orientation.
The most prominent theme of all college–oriented movies is the necessity for building relationships through socialization. In her analysis, Tucciarone

This social interaction between the two a cappella groups, one being all female and the other all male, is important because it highlights the theme of
sexism. As the movie begins by showing the Barden University Treblemakers competing against the Bardin Bellas, the first joke is made towards
women. Leader of the Treblemakers, Bumper, tells the Bellas "You guys are awesome...ly horrible. I hate you. Kill yourselves. Girl Power! Sisters
before misters!" This over–exaggerative comment portrays college guys as careless sexists who see themselves as superior to women. The idea that
women are inferior to men is further emphasized when an announcer states that "women are about as good at a capella as they are at being doctors".
Throughout the movie, references are also made by men that imply that women are weak. Bumper asks the Bellas "what boring, estrogen–filled set
have you prepared for us this evening?". This comment shows that the men believe that women are less capable of winning simply because of their
sex. Because the main objective of the Barden Bellas is to defeat the Treblemakers, it makes sense that these female characters must combat a variety of
derogatory comments. An interesting statement is made by a female character that shows that these negative feelings are not always felt by just men.
As Beca, the main character, arrives at Barden's campus, she

Mom Is Me Character Analysis
If any of my close friends or family were asked to list a few adjectives to describe me, "musical" would surely be at the top of the list. Music is at
the core of my creative identity, and after spending thousands of hours over thirteen years either traveling the world singing with the Philadelphia

outlet for me to express my myself and connect with my emotions. My parents often remind me of the time when I was in timeout when I was ten

I recognize that every member of our group has something to contribute, and as the group's president, I must acknowledge each member's
strengths and put each person in a position benefit the overall goal. Every singer's talents, when utilized correctly fit together like pieces in a
puzzle. Therefore, when we audition between 50 and 75 singers each year, I try to evaluate each candidate not by whether they are overall "good"
or "bad," but rather if they have unique talents that would add to our creative vision of the group. In the spirit of this vision, during rehearsals I
often make minor adjustments like, adding notes to chords, changing where people stand to help voice blending, and assigning singers to new voice
parts. At the beginning of each semester, the group has a meeting in which we discuss specific musical goals, and all of these small changes help us
push the boundaries of our musical ability. My creativity liberty in directing my a capella group has helped us achieve our musical goals and has

Stanley Linton Application Letter Sample

  • 1. Stanley Linton Application Letter Sample Dear Linton Scholarship Selection Committee: Thank you for taking the time to review my application for the Stanley Linton Scholarship. I am a senior at UW Oshkosh and have been involved in many areas of music on campus, including starting the a cappella group in 2012. Over the past 3 and a half years at UW Oshkosh I have been a choral & general music education major and have developed skills and philosophies that have shaped my goals and aspirations in life. My number one goal in all aspects of my life is to cultivate, preserve, and further the field of music through music education. It is a strong belief of mine that education is about innovation, not re–invention. In the future I hope to find ways to make music relevant to all students; to find ways to connect the classroom a student's everyday academic and personal life. Another aspiration of mine is to teach music abroad. This is something that I suspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these experiences is developing and implementing the music literacy curriculum for the Badger State Girl Choir with the help from Dr. Kenneth Liske and Mr. Eric Britz. This has truly been a recent eye–opening experience in regards to applying the content that is learned in our music education classes. I also have had the blessing to lead the a cappella group on campus since my freshmen year; this has not only allowed me to use my practical skills like piano, theory, and aural skills, but it has allowed me to create a community of singers that are involved on campus and around the community. Besides the direct education experiences, I have been an active role at my job on campus to create and implement training materials for the IT technicians for Residence Life, and learned practical skills such as purchase orders and understanding institutional policies for hiring. Because of these experiences, I believe that I am a viable candidate for the Stanley Linton Memorial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Research Paper On Pitch Perfect 2 Pitch Perfect 2 stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, and Brittany Snow. The film is a sequel to the 2012 surprise hit Pitch Perfect, which followed the all female a cappella group, The Barden Bellas, trying to win a national collegiate a cappella title. Pitch Perfect 2 is also the first feature film directed by co–star Elizabeth Banks. Pitch Perfect 2 opens with the Bellas singing at The Kennedy Center for the President of the United States. In the crowd are John and Gail, the two a cappella officials from the first movie, played by Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins, recording a podcast about a cappella and following the success of the Barden Bellas. During the recording we learn that since Pitch Perfect the Bellas have won the national title two more times, and that the performance for the President is the start of their national tour. On stage Fat Amy, played by Rebel Wilson, erupts from behind a curtain performing a ribbon dance and hanging from the ceiling while singing Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball. As if on cue at the start of the chorus Fat Amy experiences a wardrobe malfunction, and is exposed to the audience as well as the President. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John and Gail inform the girls that they are not allowed to participate in collegiate a cappella activities, induct new members, and that they would be replaced by Das Sound Machine(DSM) on the national tour. • 3. Analysis Of Another Thanksgiving Dinner In Another Thanksgiving Dinner the author conveys how Hannah's relationship changes with her father throughout the story by using the character's feelings and actions. During the first part of the story Hannah is not very excited to be spending thanksgiving wither dad, in the first paragraph it says "Sounds really cool," Hannah replied politely, managing to smile at the thought of another Thanksgiving dinner with Dad, but she wasn't managing an excellent job of smiling. This shows even though Hannah is happy she is spending time with her dad, she still is not very happy that she is missing out on the other fun things she could if she wasn't with her dad. • 4. The Concert At The Meyer Theater On Wednesday, February seventeenth, I had the pleasure of attending Noteworthy's concert at the Meyer–Mclean Theater. Noteworthy is an a capella group from Brigham Young University, and is composed entirely of female students. Though only one of the girls is a music major, all share an incredible love of music, and it showed in their thoughtful, energetic performance. Rather than having a theme for their concert, the nine singers of Noteworthy performed a wide variety of songs from different eras and genres of music. The one thing these pieces did have in common was their instrumentation: that is to say, they had none. All of the noises needed to recreate each piece, whether it was jazz or pop, were produced from the singers themselves. This style of music is called a capella. As with many types of music, a capella found its start in a religious setting. Around the year seventy A.D., rabbis prohibited the use of instruments in synagogues in order to distinguish their rituals from those of the pagans. Then, in the first century, monks created Gregorian chants, which were sung in monasteries and lacked instrumentation. They steadily rose in popularity through the eleventh century, being spread throughout the world by the Catholic Church. Later on, during the colonization of the America's, African slaves took to singing their native songs without instruments, as they were not permitted any. This tradition inspired the barbershop quartets of the early 1900's, which often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Graduation Speech Every time I go out on a stage I look at the small piece of paper in my music folder, one with hand written words that now hold so much meaning to me. I think all the way back to the first time I sang in front of an audience and of the complete and utter disaster that it was. However, I also think of how far I have come. It all started in fourth grade when my school had their annual school talent show. I had sang in the church choir with a group of around twenty other kids, but this was different. I had practiced my song multiple times over, and had asked my friend to play the piano while I sang. The day I walked into the school will never leave my memory. It was so tense you could taste the anticipation in the air. I walked in and sat in my seat where I memorized the student I would come up after. Time seemed to speed up impossibly fast, and the next moment I was being called onto the stage. The only sound I could hear was the pound of my heart, and my friend fuzzily asking in the background, "Do you want to go a cappella when I turn the pages?" I nodded agreeably because I did not want her to know I did not know what the word meant. Now I know it's meaning is "without instrumental music" ("A Cappella."). Too soon, we were standing on the stage, and I had started to sing the song. I thought everything was going well until it came time for her to turn the page and she stopped playing. I waited patiently as she waited for me to sing. We were both waiting, and the only sound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Singing Journey A friend from my childhood once told me "dream on, and sing louder". This friend pushed this saying deep into my heart until it made it seem as if it kept my heart beating. I never really began to understand what she meant when she repeated this saying to me until she explained it. She said to me that to dream on is to not give up, and to sing louder is to not let anyone take my voice away from me. Singing has always been a huge part in my life from singing in talent shows to singing in the shower. My mother said that I never stopped singing. The journey of my singing began with my first School of Rock program and is now being pursued on my churches worship team today. Before I start to tell you about my singing journey, I feel as if I should explain why I started to sing in the first place. It all began when I was four years old, my older sister Kassidy would always, and I mean always, be listening to music in her room and singing. As we grew up she learned how to play the guitar and how to write songs. She inspired me to sing and I couldn't thank her enough for it. When my sister was 12 years old she started to get involved in this program named School of Rock. When she would sing on that stage I constantly wished that I was her. I could not wait until I was in the 7th grade so that I could be a part of it as well. The day eventually came and I was terrified. • 7. Pitch Perfect Analysis Culture. That is a word that has a different and everchanging meaning around the world. In America, culture has changed dramatically over time. The book Made in America by Claude S. Fischer, the quote, "America began as an unusually individualistic society–more precisely, a voluntaristic society, [–]and only became more so," describes this change as a deepening of a specific type of society (Fischer, n.d.). A voluntaristic society is a group of people who both believe and behave "as if individuals succeed through fellowship–not in egoistic isolation but in sustaining, voluntary communities"(Fischer, n.d.). In the beginning, different races would be severely oppressed, as would people of different sexual orientation. Also, women had a very specific role in society that was restricting. As time went on, however, these things changed. For people of different races, more opportunities arose, and they began to get treated equally. People of different sexual orientation are also beginning to get accepted in society, and women are now less restricted or stereotyped. The movie Pitch Perfect shows the cultural challenges faced today, primarily in women through body shaming, family constructs, and gender inequality. The movie Pitch Perfect is about a freshman in college, Beca, who would rather be out DJing than in college, until she discovers that she fits perfectly in a group that she did not originally want to be in. • 11. Essay about Music: The Change from Spiritual to Secular The time between 1485 and 1660 marked a period of new beginnings for the people living in England; this time is known as the Renaissance. In England, the people were challenging their past beliefs; where before the Renaissance, England thrived basing their lives, government, and music off of God and his principles alone. During these one–hundred and seventy–five years, the English people started questioning their original principles about religion and established a yearning for information and proof based off of science instead of God. This desire caused many changes to form in England. The Renaissance period quickly became known as the rebirth of knowledge named by the change from God's knowledge to the knowledge of man. The masses in the religious services had to be sung a cappella in this specific order or it was considered a disgrace and ruined the sacred pieces. The high priests of the Catholic churches were very strict on how the sacred music was sung and preserved. With the change at hand in spiritual music, the Catholic high priests had to do something to correct the problems. The high priests felt that the secular feel and style of music that was becoming evident in spiritual music was tainting the sacred message in these pieces. The Council of Trent was called into affect to address this reoccurring issue. The Council of Trent lasted for eighteen years all of which used to decide the correct and just way to solve this musical predicament. The Council deliberated on this topic and came to agreement that the reason for the issue was the "irrelevant attitude of the church musicians" (Augusta County Public Schools). During the Council of Trent, certain instruments were banned from spiritual music, encouraging and a cappella style once again. These instruments were forbidden because of the secular influence that was invading the purity of the sacred music of the bible. The band as a whole played together and ended with a male solo scatting. The third and shortest performance of the night was a vocal acapella piece, "Love walked in" which was short and sweet. The fourth performance of the night was a Richmond Rogers piece. This had a rhythmic swing/salsa feel from the "Lady is a tramp". My impression is that this song is that it makes me feel calm and peaceful. The sounds of the chorus voices all in rhythm with each other just makes it so amazing. My impression on the composer is that Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina took his time to make everything sound perfect for his music. I also like how he took the time to make the words understandable by accentuating them so the music can be used for Catholics. My impression on the style, which would be a cappella, which is when there is no instrumental in the song is that it sounded really good. I was surprised when I found out that cappella chorus doesn't use instrumental music whatsoever. It sounded like there was but after listening to it again I didn't hear it at all but the chorus. Music During The 1960's 1960's Introduction During the 1950s, bands and solo artists were still discovering what type of genre they belonged to, as many genres could be mistaken for others, such as Rock and Roll and R&B. During the 60s these types of music became more evident and artists now began to belong to certain genres. With many controversial events taking place such as the assassination of President Kennedy musicians started writing music based on how they felt and on how the society felt. These types of emotional songs had an affect not only on the artist but also on the people as well. In this movement, there is a slow theme in minor mode, which keeps coming back in different variations. Thus, I think this movement is in the rondo form. After adagio, the mood of the piece gets "brighter". Allegretto is in the minuet form and it is build upon themes similar to each other. These themes consist of parallel and contrasting melodies. Texture–wise this symphony is homophonic. One can hear the different dynamics, but clearly it is not what this piece was written for. Speed and virtuosity is in the foreground. This paper will discuss the thought process behind the rejection of instruments, explaining; why those who favored it chose to keep peace, why it was seen as impure worship to those who rejected it, and why it was not ordained according to positive law. When a church of Disciples of Christ played its first instrument (a melodeon) in worship, it caused huge controversy. An elder of the church removed it from the church one night and sold it because he saw it as unscriptural. A man named Huldrych Zwingli who was a well–known instrumentalists, also rejected instrumental music and banned all playing of organs in worship. Humanism is an outlook of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. For the Renaissance, humanism was a big cultural movement that brought thought of Greek and Roman thoughts. Humanism was expressed in the Renaissance through the works of art, music, and literature. During the Renaissance, church music had an a big impact because a lot of people were hardcore religious figures. A lot of these tunes were based on a cappella which is singing with no beat or music, and some of the music did have instruments playing in the background. Music embodied humanism because religion was huge to people back then and that is how people used to live during this time.
