The editor used cross dissolve and bloom transitions when editing a music video to create a dreamy, nostalgic tone that matched the mood of the song. Shots of the male and female protagonists together used the bloom transition to imply they were having flashbacks or dreams. The exposure and diffusion of shots were also altered to make the video darker and reinforce the flashback element, subscribing to the genre and style of the music.

2. When editing the music video I predominantly used two types
of transition styles in order to create the mood and feeling
which I wanted my video to imply within the target audience.
I used the cross dissolve
transition because it is
the most appropriate one
to create this dreamy
nostalgic tone in the
video and it would
perfectly subscribe with
the mood of the song.
And I used the ‘Bloom’
transition for the shots where
the male and female
protagonist were together in
order to make it feel as if the
protagonists are having flash
back or dream which is
perfect for the narrative.

3. I changed the ‘exposure’ of each of the videos in
order to create better quality of images and to
make the video a bit more darker than the original
footage which would subscribe to the genre and
style of the song.
For the scenes of the two protagonists being
together I changed the ‘diffusion’ and turned
them into black and white in order to
reinforce the ‘flashback’ element discussed in
the previous slide.
