LEARNING LOGS
In addition to weekly homework, the children will be completing a Learning
Log on a half termly basis. These logs will be your child’s record /
representation of what they have learned throughout the half term.
So far, i have been really impressed with some
the hard work that has gone into these logs.

Maths
Your child now has a login and password for the Sum Dog site. This is an educational tool that helps children to
improve their rapid recall of maths facts. The children can earn points by playing a wide range of games, and then
they are able to spend the points in the shop to buy clothes and accessories for their avatar. This site is free and is
accessible from home using the following link: http://www.sumdog.com
There are also some great maths apps e.g. http://www.risingstars-uk.com/achieveapp and free websites http://www.counton.org/
Please see the blog for other websites that are useful for improving maths skills.
Reading
Listen to your child read aloud from their school reading book for 5 minutes at least 3x
a week and sign their reading record book.
Ask your child questions about the section they have read to develop the following skills:
★ Picking out key information
★ Inference (reading between the lines)
★ Understanding the layout of a text
★ Understanding the authors choice of language / vocabulary
★ Developing reading preferences and linking reading to their own experiences /
Understanding the purpose of the text
★ Thinking about when and where the text is set / writing for different purposes.
