2. Who are the BBFC ?
The British Board of film Classification (BBFC), are a non-profit media content regular
which examine, rate films and videos according to age before they are released. They
do this to ensure children, minors and audiences are protected from unsuitable,
harmful content in media texts in the United Kingdom.
The BBFC’S history
The British Board of Film Classification (THE BBF) was originally the British Board of
FilmCensors when members of the film industry first set it up in 1912. The board was
set up to bring uniformity to the classification of films nationally hence the creation of
the British Board of Film Censors. Now BBFC Classify and censors cinema films in the
United Kingdom.They are funded by the film industry making them a non-
governmental organisation.The current president of the BBFC is Patrick Swaffer and
the director David Cooke.
