Aggression In Martha Stewart And Everybody Loves Raymond
On the television there is way too much negativity that influence the youth and adults mind when we do not even know what is going on. The three
television programs I observed had the following: physical, verbal, and relational (bullying). In the television show Martha Stewart she had few
aggression in her show. In The Fairly Oddparents, it had way moreaggression than Martha Stewart and Everybody Loves Raymond. Now Everybody
Loves Raymond has fewer more tv agressions than Martha Stewart. What is put on the television for the young and adults has an affect on our minds.
The show Martha Stewart had not so much physical aggression in the show. When it came to verbal there was a lot more aggression there. The
relational (bullying) was less than the verbal aggression. There was only two tally mark that rated the physical aggression for this show. In physical
aggression Martha Stewart will act like a celebrity and just joke around thinking it would not hurt them and think it is a harmless game. For verbal
aggression there was six tally marks that was a ranking. In the show she makes side jokes about celebrities and there mostly not side jokes but ... Show

It is whenever Martha say something or do something her boss can see and makes a note of it. When she's off air he/she will talk to her and give
her warnings but will lower her pay. Children might think it's okay to talk bad or say bad things about a actor or actress and do it in the real world.
What ever they see on television they will copy it and reenact it. When Martha was being positive she was rewarded with great comments on
whatever she did on her show. There was educational content in this show, when Martha was cooking or making a DIY she was teaching the viewers
how to do things that they might not know they could have done or didn't know they could do

Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody...
Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody Loves Raymond Learning to communicate efficiently and manage conflict successfully is
challenging. Gaining cooperation between people is complex and mentally demanding. Communication ways and conflict styles are deeply woven into
our personalities. Conflict is the expressed struggle of interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, interference from the other party in
achieving those goals, and the perception of scarce resources. Perceptions are just as important as reality in regards to conflict. As stated in the text,
"we encounter conflict as we compete for acceptance, love, recognition, position, power, success, and many other goals. Judgments of the quality of...

The conflict here is that Robert's goals were to experience the freedom from his parents and not Amy. If either had used perception checking, it is
possible that their conflict would have ended. The Attribution Theory is based upon assigning meanings for another's behavior. What we think to be
true is not always accurate. It is necessary to implement proactive strategies such as perception checking. Perception checking involves three
components. They are as stated: 1.A complete description of behavior observed 2.Provide two possible interpretations of the observed behavior
3.Request for clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered the termination stage together. As stated earlier and expressed here, conflict usually
occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are often perceived in dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the
Relationship Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in relationships. The number one cause for break ups is
the relational dialectic, integration/separation. The two opposing forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy) and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr.
McKinney illustrates these tensions as a contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship. Mediation is a wonderful process in
negotiating a solution between two parties thwarted by

Character Analysis On Everybody Loves Raymond
Everybody loves Raymond is a show that was first released during the year of 1996 and ran all the way to 2005. The show is centered around Ray
Barone, a talented sports writer who constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very sarcastic, no
matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the
responsibilities of child care and cleaning to his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful show, it still
plays into the stereotypical behavior of Gender roles, which ultimately prevents society from making any real progress.
At the beginning of episode 1, "Pilot" it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at
home mother. This feeds into the belief that men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment Raymond
walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing
the first thing about kids, let alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all the time. It is very rare
to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. This feeds into the stereotype that not only are women expected to be stay at home mothers,
but that it should be expected because men are not as good

Character Analysis Of Squeaky In Raymond's Run
Why do we have emotions? Emotions are the thing that form us all. Without these emotions we would just be robots. In life, you can experience
good and bad emotions. These good and bad emotions are represented in the story "Raymond's Run" by Toni Cade Bambara. In this story the main
character Squeaky. She is a very aggressive and tough person at first sight. However, in this story you can really see that everyone has a bright and
generous side to them. Squeaky has many obstacles in her life, such as dealing with her brother Raymond. Even though Raymond has been a
challenge in her life, she still cares about him. She protects him from people who hurt him just because he is different. She will go physical and
verbal lengths to protect him from the bullies. Even though she is a aggressive mean girl, we can see that deep inside, her bad emotions there are good
ones.
Squeaky's bad emotions are mostly shown through aggressiveness. But the bad emotions are trying to hide the fact that Squeaky cares. As the start of
the start of the story is happening, Squeaky is introducing Raymond. She says that many people like to tease Raymond just because he is not ... Show

From dealing with Raymond, to fighting bullies. Squeaky lives life hard. She protects her inner feelings and hides them with outer feelings which are
very harsh. In her reality, she thinks that she is a very self confident girl, who does not care what others think about her. However, inreal life Squeaky
can't hide what she feels inside. Furthermore, she is a great person who is very caring and feels sadness. In the story, the author is trying to tell us
that even the worst people in life have a good side to them. Running is what helps Squeaky get away from the problems she has in life. In life you can
not hide what is really inside you. That is what the reader can really see throughout the story. So, the next time you encounter a mean person, just know

The Stranger Character Analysis
The Stranger by Albert Camus follows the story of a man named Meursault, who received notice that his mother had passed away. Meursault was not
emotionally connected to his mother, and his reaction is not what the reader would expect, as he did not seem to care at all. Therefore, the day after
attending his mother's funeral, Meursault goes to the beach and meets up with his girlfriend, Marie. After the beach, Meursault and Marie go to a movie
and spend the night together. When he returns home from work the next day, Meursault runs into his neighbor, Raymond, who beats his mistress. Later
in the story, Meursault, Marie, and Raymond go to a beach house, which is owned by Raymond's friend, Masson. At the beach, Masson, Raymond, and

Unlike round characters, flat characters do not change, but flat characters can be used to develop round characters.
Marie, Meursault's girlfriend, is extremely emotionally attached to Meursault, and this is a weakness. Marie is dependent on Meursault as her source
of happiness, even though Meursault does not show that he really cares about Marie. When asked if he loved her, he replied "it didn't mean anything
and that [he] probably didn't love her" (41). Most people would despise being in a relationship in which they're unloved by their partner. However,
Marie stays with Meursault, even if he does not actually love her. Marie staying in a relationship where she is not even loved, is the result of her
being emotionally attached to someone who does not feel the same way about her. However, Marie's neediness also allows her to be extremely
loyal. Loyalty is normally a strength, but Marie takes it to another level and makes her loyalty a weakness. Marie visited Meursault in prison and
assures him"[he will] get out [of prison] and [they will] get married" (75). Even though Meursault murders someone, goes to jail and is sentenced to
death, Marie stays with him almost all the way to the end of Meursault's life. Most people would not be comfortable getting married to a murderer.
However, Marie still wanted to get married to Meursault because

The Sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond
In the sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, airing on CBS in the late 90's and early 2000's we see an nuclear white family with two parents, two kids,
grandparents, and a set of other relatives. The target audience appears to be within the age of 18–35 for this time period in comparison to other shows
such as Frazier or Will and Grace. The family is very middle class oriented as far as the home, clothing, and jobs of the characters go. They live in the
suburbs and are never too hurt for money. Playing into this story also comes the subtle humor and remarks at sexual acts that happen very often
throughout each scene. However, you never actually see these sexual acts take place and there is no point of uncomfortable actions throughout this ...

The resolution comes when the drama is settled and all family members are satisfied with the solution. In direct correlation with the text that states, the
action is set in motion when minor conflict situations flare up and heightened verbally through deceit or insults, Everybody Loves Raymond is a prime
example of a comedy formula (Potter, 205).
The patterns of Everybody Loves Raymond are ultimately formulaic for the 90 's. Families are nucleic and typical of the 90 's middle class
working white population. There is a mom who stays at home and does all of the house work and takes care of the kids, while the father is aloof of
all of the housework and children but works most of the day and is the sole source of income. Both parents are alive and a constant source of conflict
as they (especially the grandmother and mother, as women are often portrayed as catty) are present and cause embarrassment. The children are hardly
the center of attention at all plot wise. Most plots are surrounding the conflict between family members, especially disagreements between the husband
and wife and between the mother–in–law and the wife. There are rarely any African Americans, even though the show takes place in Long Island,
which has a high African American population, even back when the show was being made. Other ethnicity are hardly ever

Television vs. Reality
It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network's primetime hit "Ally McBeal". Suddenly, just after
the program resumes after a painstakingly long commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a
night of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You
begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called "Some of My Best Friends". Almost
immediately after you and your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and embracing each other.

This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive relationships. Then he asked his roommate to
break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave. In reality, most people like to believe that sex is a sign of love and, although there are also
many exceptions to this rule, many still try and live by it. Today there are also many fears about AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases being spread.
The characters on "Friends" seem to be completely immune and ignorant of sexually transmitted diseases while having sex with many different
partners. Finally, another aspect that is falsely portrayed in this show is homosexuality. It seems that almost everywhere the main characters go there
are homosexuals that are either hanging around the main characters or are attracted to them. In reality, the homosexual population only makes up
around 10–12% of the U.S. population, so it would be unlikely that the main characters would run into that many homosexuals in the small areas where
they live.
The next show that I have researched is the CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond". Even though this show falls into the same category as
"Friends", the shows are very different. One difference is that the main character in "Everybody Loves Raymond" is married. On "Friends", all of the
main characters are single, and they have sexual relations more frequently. "Everybody Loves Raymond" does not present as much sex as most sitcoms

Gender Stereotypes : Modern Family And Every Body Loves...
It is very well known to all that media is a big part of society today. It influenced how we see ourselves and the world to some extent. There are
different types of media that is offered today, for example: TV, movies, radio, and newspapers. Within the different forms of media, women and men
are represented in a certain way, all with different characteristics. In this essay, I will argue that there is similargender stereotypes presented in the
shows Modern Family and Every Body Loves Raymond, and how they differ from the show Full House. To start off, Modern family is a show that
started that in 2009 that falls within the genre of American sitcoms. Blending the idea of sitcoms with a family orientated plot, this show has been
very popular among television audiences. As the title claims, the show tries to portray modern families. The family is made up of an older white
male, and a younger Colombian trophy wife and her son from her first marriage. There is also another family consisting of a hard working dad, an
over controlling mom, and their three children. Lastly, there is a family which consists of gay co–parents and their adopted Vietnamese child. While
these family structures appear to be modern, the gender roles presented within the structure suggest something different. In our society, we carry an
ideological assumption that a "normal" family consists of the man working to provide for the family and the women takes on the role of stay–at–home
mom (Dow 1992).

Literary Criticism In Rain Man By Leonore Fleischer
INTRODUCTION Literary criticism is the process of reading , interpretation of and commentary on a specific texts which have been recognized as
literature. Literary criticism usually comes with certain literary theories that can be found in the text analysed. Literary criticism can be done only
after reading a literature text and one must understand the story to identify a theory that exist in the story. A good literary criticism should contain a
good example with evidence found from the text. It must also included with some relevant theory of criticism to support it. Rain Man by Leonore

Analysis Of Strange Characters In The Stranger
Strange Characters The Stranger by Albert Camus follows the story of a man named Meursault, who received notice that his mother had passed away.

Raymond. Therefore, a fight breaks out and Raymond is stabbed. Later, Raymond and Meursault return to the beach, and run into the Arabs again.
Meursault talks Raymond out of shooting the Arabs, however, later Meursault shoots Raymond's mistress's brother. Meursault is arrested and is put in

The Elderly Character Analysis : Everybody Loves Raymond
The Elderly The show that I decided to watch and analyze about the elderly was Everybody Loves Raymond. I choose Everybody Loves Raymond
because it is very relatable and understanding. The show is based on an Italian family living in Long Island New York dealing with everyday life
situations. the main character Raymond must deal with his everyday life while dealing with his elderly parents who live right across the street as
well. today we see that there are many stereotypes when it comes to the elderly, stereotypes such as the elderly can't remember things, they're
nosey, or that they know it all. In the show, we see that Raymond's parents do fall into some of these stereotypes, but also, they do things that make
us think that not all elderly people fall into these known stereotypes. We are so accustomed to leaving the elderly in places such as nursing homes
whenever we feel like we have no need to take care of them anymore, or if they can't seem to do things on their own. Raymond's parents Marie and
Frank are still able to do things on their own they still joke around and make fun of their kids. Even after retirement, and helping Raymond raise his
kids, they still have Rob who lives with them. Even though their kids essentially make fun of their age, Marie and Frank somehow make the best out
of situations. When we think about the elderly we usually think about old people who just sit around, watch television, and sleep. Marie and Frank

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
"Everybody sees what you appear to be ... few people know who you really are." This saying illustrates that if you appear one way, no one can see
who you really are inside. When someone appears one way, you do not really get to know them but when they truly become themselves you can
really see who they are and not just who they appear to be. However, they may only reveal their true selves to some people and keep acting like a
different person to everyone else, or keep everything to themselves and do not show anyone their true self. Dolphus Raymond, Boo Radley and Atticus
Finch in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, all show themselves in a different way. Dolphus reveals himself to Scout and Dill during the

The truth is that he is very courageous because he is not afraid of lying to the whole town to be "drunk" all the time. He does that because he wants

Jem and Scout have always thought that Mr. Raymond was drunk because everybody else in Maycomb thought of him in the same way:
When Dolphus is going through the town on his thoroughbred horse, Jem says "Don't see how he stays in the saddle" because he feels the same
way as the rest of the town, that he is drunk all of the time. Dolphus takes his sack bag, filled with "whiskey", around everywhere and he sips out of
it every so often to appear to be drunk. He is also appeared to have had feelings for a black woman while about to get married to a Spencer lady, but
when she found out that Dolphus had feeling for a black woman, she shot herself in the head. That is when the whole town thought that Dolphus started
drinking. Furthermore, he came across as being considered like trash because he prefers the company of the black people, and he is disliked by most of
the white people in the town because of that. That is just how he appears to be to the town of Maycomb, but he is really a courageous and caring man.

Guilt In To Kill A Mockingbird
In today's world racism is not common as it was in the 1900's. In the early 1900's racism was very common, and most of the white Americans were
racist to the Minorities. Although racism was common in the 1900's it is now frowned upon and not very common at all. Minorities are now not
rejected in today's world, and are accepted like any other person. Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird shows that guilt can be unfairly determined
based on racial discrimination.
In this novel many people assume someone is guilty because of their nationality before they take Atticus a lawyer advice and try to see things from

How Did Atticus Protests The Jim Crow Laws In To Kill A...
The author of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, protests the Jim Crow Laws in a lot of ways. She uses characters such as Atticus to protest the
laws. Lee doesn't directly state in the story that she is protesting the laws. The way she wrote the story you can insist that she is going against racism.
Harper Lee wrote the book in the time of the Jim Crow Laws came about. In To Kill A Mockingbird,Harper Lee uses the trial against Tom Robinson
that Atticus must tackle, the lessons that Atticus wants his children to learn about treating people with equality, and the controversial character of
Dolphus Raymond to protest the Jim Crow Laws. Harper Lee protests the Jim Crow Laws in To Kill A Mockingbird by having Atticus defend a

He spends his time with coloured folks in town and at home because as Jem Finch explains, "He likes 'em better'n he likes us." Raymond Dolphus did
not care about the colour of a person's skin at a time when segregation and racism were prominent. If being an outcast is the only way to be with the
people he loves, he will accept. When Mr. Raymond comes to town, he is often seen accompanied by a bottle in a brown paper bag. The bottle is
speculated to be whisky but Jem, Scout, and Dill learn that Mr. Raymond is only drinking Coca–Cola. The children ask why he lies to the public about

ease their minds when they ask themselves how a white man can live the way he does. The Finch children and Dill make a point that Mr. Raymond

After watching both TV Sitcoms, "Everybody loves Raymond" and "Modern Family", there is a lot of differences and similarities to analyze,
comparing both on styles and production. First, "Everybody loves Raymond" is an American TV series show in the sitcom genre, created by Philip
Rosenthal and aired on CBS since 1996. When I was watching it, I noticed that their settings were practically similar to ВЁModern FamilyВЁ, showing
both sites in a family house. For example, both TV shows started with an establishing show. It is showing basically an overview of the location on
where the scene will take place. The director used different settings in the house, like for example, in the bedroom, kitchen, living and dining room. The

Indeed, this is like that because the creators Christopher Lloyd & Steven Levitan, made this TV sitcom particularly in a Mockumentary style or
(docu–comedy style, in which means that they present the events in a documentary style just to create comedy. "Modern Family" have that particular
style of using more camera movements than the show of "Everybody loves Raymond", that is more static. This dramatically movements of the camera
makes the show seems like in a face–pace running all the time. They do faster close–ups, zooms in/ out, tilting up/ down, and they do faster movements
of panning left/ right, to follow the conversation of the actors, which is totally different from the other show. Another differences on both shows is that
in ВЁModern FamilyВЁ they have that particular style when you see the actors talking directly to the camera, like they are having a conversation to
someone, or just maybe pretending they are talking to themselves. However, we don't see this in ВЁEverybody loves RaymondВЁ but there is because
they are acting to follow the story of the family but in that particular way of the viewer listening to the live audience laughing after something funny

Some Of The Things We See Our Everyday Life Like Movies
Shawn Scott Professor Stief English 1302.707 22 April 2017 Title Some of the things we see in our everyday life like movies, television shows, or

Friday Night Lights Boobie Miles uses the fact that he is a really good athlete to take advantage of things he would not be able to get away with if
he was not a popular football player in his town. One thing that he does try to get away with is not doing any school work. Younger viewers could

individuals poorly. Guys, in television shows, are also depicted to be worry free and careless, and

To Kill a Mockingbird Essay
Learning lessons is a very important part of growing up. Children learn new things every day of their life. Even adults learn something every once
in a while. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the character Scout is very adventurous and loves to learn; she has many experiences
that lead to her being taught many different things about life. On page 12 of Cliff Notes for this novel, John Sova writes "each experience is
designed to give Scout a further understanding about certain things in life and about people. In one way or another, every episode leads to some type of
learning experience for Scout". Scout learns a lot of different things about her town's views, the people who she's heard about but never really knew, and

Scout was also very into thinking that Boo Radley was a terrible monster of a man. She has never seen him in person, but all the stories Jem had told
her made her believe that he was too scary to even think about.
Jem explains Boo Radley to Scout by saying: he's about six–and–a–half feet tall, judging from his tracks, he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he
could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained–if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that
ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time. (14)
With a description like that, Scout thought that Boo Radley was the scariest man alive. Scout didn't know any better at the time than to believe
whatever she heard about him from others. When Scout finds gum in the knothole of the oak tree near the Radley house, she starts to think that
maybe Boo isn't so bad. When he saves Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell, they realize that Boo actually cares about them and wants to keep them safe.
Scout and Jem always believed Boo to be evil, when he is actually a good–hearted human being. At the close of the novel, Scout talks about Boo to
Atticus, saying that "he was real nice" (323). Scout learns that people are not always what they seem to be at first, and there is always something good
underneath every harsh surface. Scout always talked about but never

Examples Of Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird
Maycomb County, known for being one of the most discriminate and racist counties in Alabama. When reading To Kill a Mockingbird you will
experience much racism. You will see the hatred the Africans Americans experience from the white people. Maycomb even has its own social system;
no matter who you are talking about the African Americans will be below the whites. The social system affects every individual in Maycomb County.
There is not one person in Maycomb that racism has not affected.
Tom Robinson's case is a big representation of racism in Maycomb. Tom Robinson was an innocent man found guilty only because of his skin color.
This has happens to many other African American men and women. An illustration of this idea is "I don't know, but they did it. They've done it before
and they did it tonight and they'll do it again..." (Lee 213). This evidence shows that the jury of Maycomb has convicted many African American
people guilty and will continue to do it just because of their skin color. Just like with Tom Robinson, those people could have been completely innocent

He's a white man who married an African American woman. People in Maycomb don't except them being married. The reader sees this when
Dolphus Raymond tells Scout and Dill "I try to give 'em a reason, you see. It helps folks if they van latch onto a reason. When I come to town,
which is seldom, if I weave a little and drink out of this sack, folks can say Dolphus Raymond's in the clutches of whiskey that's why he won't
change his ways. He can't help himself. That's why he lives the way he does," (Lee 200). Basically Dolphus Raymond here is saying that he uses the
excuse of being a drunk to the town so they don't get mad of him wanting to be with the person he loves. He is living a lie to please everyone around
him. The racism in Maycomb doesn't just affect black people, it affects white people

Nonverbal Communication In Everybody Loves Raymond
The television show Everybody Loves Raymond is about the comical and typical everyday life of Ray Romano. Ray is a successful sports writer
with interests of an average American male in sports, golf, and work and has a beautiful family with his loving wife, Debra. However, the twist is
that Ray's overprotective mother Marie and demanding father Frank along with his older brother Robert who is envious of Ray all live across the
street. As a result, Ray's seemingly normal life is always full of drama and liveliness. In the episode "Baggage," because Ray and Debra are returning

Behavioral flexibility involves "knowing and using a number of different behaviors to achieve appropriate communication" (O'Hair et al. 16). At the
same time, Ray returns home early after realizing how silly their fight over the suitcase is. Ray and Debra engage in using mature behavior and
communication to handle the situation, rather than using nonverbal and negative communication, to end their argument. Consequently, since Ray and
Debra are husband and wife, they begin to show their affiliation to one another. Affiliation can be described as "the feeling of connectedness you
have with others" (O'Hair et al. 6). Furthermore, Ray and Debra use haptics or "the use of touch to send messages" when they nonverbally interact by
hugging each other (O'Hair et al. 111). More specifically, this is also an example of love–intimacy touch which shows "example include embracing and
caressing" (O'Hair et al. 112). Love–intimacy touch is generally used by two very close romantical partners or family members to express affection.
In this case, because Ray and Debra reconcile with one another, their relationship grows stronger and their affections toward one another grow.
Therefore, Ray and Debra go from arguing about the suitcase to using the symbol to as means to grow closer to one another and even leads to Ray
suggesting that they should have "coming home action"

In one episode, one of the main characters ended up sleeping with his date even though they had just met each other the day before and had only
gone out on one date. In the very same episode, another of the main characters had sex with a woman that he had just met less than ten minutes
before. In reality, the norm (or the desired norm) is to wait until a couple has been going out for a while and gets to know each other better before
having sex. In some cases, it is the norm to wait until marriage before having sex. There are many exceptions to these norms, but most people like to
believe that they hold true.
Another aspect that is falsely portrayed is the representation of love and sex. This show sends several different messages about love and sex, some of
them completely contradicting the others. The one thing that caught my attention the most though, was the act of casual sex, or the act of sex without
love. In one of the episodes mentioned earlier, one of the main characters had slept with a woman he only had met the day before. The following
morning, the main character told his roommate that, "[Their] relationship had no 'spark', and [he] only slept with her because she was willing to do
so". This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive relationships. Then he asked his roommate to
break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave. In

The Fundamentals Of Caring By Rob Burnett
The Fundamentals of Caring Evaluation
The Fundamentals of Caring directed by Rob Burnett who is a five time Emmy award winner and a 31 time Emmy nominee. Rob Burnett started
off as an intern for David Letterman and then was head writer for Everybody Loves Raymond. Later in 2012 he created an independent movie
called We Made This Movie and then went on to create The Fundamentals of Caring in 2016. The Fundamentals of Caring is different; it was the
final movie shown at Sundance and goes beyond the everyday struggles of caring for a disabled person. It is argued that it is just a long explanation
of what "ALOHA– Ask, Listen, Observe, Help, Ask Again" truly means, but it shows the hardships that come with jumping over hurdles both
physically and emotionally that result in unanticipated relationships. The Fundamentals of Caring contains indecent humor, weak sense of shock, but
the acting was able to redeem itself and become pragmatic. The Fundamentals of Caring is about a new caregiver named Ben (Paul Rudd) who starts
off taking care of Trevor (Craig Roberts) who has a rare disorder called DuchenneMuscular Dystrophy. Ben soon discovered that he likes to pull
pranks that are over–the–top. For example, Trevor pretended to choke from his food and Ben did not realize he was joking and "freaked" out. Ben

Essay On The Story Of A Story
"My, my, my! Isn't it a wonderful day Raymond?" said Walter as he carefully pulled up his car on the small driveway. Standing up, he brushed away
any dirt on his nude suit and wing–tipped Oxfords. Besides Walter, Raymond hummed a small reply. Walter, content, continued on out to the quaint
diner slumped in the middle of the paved road.
The diner wasn't much. A small stoop and a door with a rusty metal frame on top was smack dab in its middle. On either side of the door was a row
of windows and underneath, a poor paint job with an even thinner coat of varnish on top. Well, if the peeling paint was anything to go by, but that

Walter. Walter, though he was listening, was more interested in the girl. Walter waited impatiently as she was attending one customer ahead of them.
"Raymond," Walter declared while adjusting his crimson silk tie. "You heard me right and let me not repeat this again. I will make that girl my

Absurdity In The Stranger By Albert Camus
In the book The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the use of absurdity is at a great extent. Throughout the book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios
that are carried out by the characters. This essay will point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the
beginning of the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She lived in an old people's home
because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her. Theabsurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed
a tear at his own mother's funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the undertakers, "Was she
old?" And Meursault replied, "Fairly," then after stating, "because I didn't know the exact number," (p.16). It is completely absurd to not know your
own mother's age. Meursault also didn't want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That is purely
absurd to do at one's own mother's funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The Stranger, would be Meursault's feelings towards his
girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he loved
her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn't love her. He

Essay On Judgement In To Kill A Mockingbird
Beneath the Skin
There will always be that one person that gets hate and one that everybody loves. Living up to other's expectation is an intricate way to fit in with
society. Judgement isn't the only problem in this generation; judging somebody by their actions and appearances cause people to be outcasted which
makes an impact on society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the narrator, Scout Finch, sums up what has happened in her preteen years, along with
her brother, Jem Finch. As they are growing up, they face conflicts throughout their hometown, Maycomb. Maycomb is a small little town in Alabama
full of judgemental racist hypocrites. One day, their dad, Atticus Finch, is set off to handle a case about anAfrican American, Tom Robinson, being
framed for 'raping' a young white girl, Mayella Ewell, daughter in of the lowest families. As a lawyer, Atticus was up with Tom. After losing the case
against Mayella's dad, Bob Ewells, Scout, and Jem have lost their social issues. In a city like Maycomb, residents and citizens are making critiques
while being prejudice when it comes to segregation and racism. Furthermore, the novel explains that people like to judge and reject the unfamiliar.
Judgement is one of society's biggest conflict. In chapter 9, Atticus tries to explain to the housekeeper, Calpurnia, about why he wants the kids to grow
up in the right direction saying, "Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is

the owner of the house Louisa lived in, she also behaves motherly to her. As demonstrated in the quote above, Mrs. Peacock will take as good care of

She even admits that she calls Raymond her "little brother" (14) even though he is bigger and older. There are "a lot of smart mouths [that] got

Theme Of Maymond In To Kill A Mockingbird
Many people are willing to losing everything just to be able to love someone. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Dolphus Raymond is a white man who is

norms in the town Maycomb is that everyone is racist. Some African Americans are treated very poorly. Also, white people were to stay proper. In
the movie Titanic, Rose DeWitt Bukater is a rich girl who falls in love with a poor boy Jack Dawson. Many people including her mother disapprove
of this because it was not proper. Rose decides to avoid the rules. Social norms in the 1910's are that people were segregated in a different way. Rich

Examples Of Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird
The world is a mosaic of all different cultures and colors, and either these differences can clash, causing a problem, or combine to make something
uniquely beautiful. When people clash, it creates war and destruction, leaving people distraught, but when these very same people choose to
combine what they know and believe in it can bring wonderful things into the world like celebrations and children. The cultures and societies that
these people believe in have their own way of living and different rules. Some cultures may not support the combination of white and black while
others would kill to see it. These societies' all over the world deem certain practices and people to be acceptable, whether it is an established caste
system or a simple friend group in high school. But within these structures come irregularities and outcasts. As seen in Harper Lee's To Kill a

Throughout the novel, racism is usually interpreted as a white person treating a black person poorly such as the Ewells to Tom Robinson. There is
also a small scene which contradicts it in which Lula, a black woman, says, "You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here –they got their church,
we got our'n..."(Lee 136). She says this to two white children, Jem and Scout, who ironically are part of the only family trying to help Tom Robinson,
her church peer. When analyzing the context it is easy to say that they are in a church and she may feel violated because that church is supposed to be
only for the black community or she may be racist and have no reason to personally hate the children. This situation makes Scout and Jem outcasts in
this community because of their skin color and because of the common belief of the

To Kill A Mockingbird Racism Quotes
The Great Depression was a catastrophic time in America. The norms were strict, and Jim Crow laws were in effect. In the scene, where Scout is
reflecting back on Tom's death, the theme of racism is portrayed through the external conflict of the town's extreme racism. This scene is significant
to the novel because Scout goes into detail on the town's prejudice and ignorant point of view. This chapter in the book puts the town to great shame
when Scout says, "To Maycomb, Tom's death was typical" (Lee 322). This quote indicates that to the community the death of a black man was so
incredibly insignificant, and Maycomb would indeed make light of the matter and carry on to the next available gossip. Furthermore, Scout refers to
the black community when she mentions, "You know how they are. Easy come, Easy go" (Lee 322). This comment dehumanizes blacks and
establishes them as extraneous as possible. An additional example of blacks being barbarized is shown in the courtroom scene, when Lawyer Gilmer
continually refers to Tom Robinson as "boy", clearly not acknowledging him and furthermore playing into the theme of racism.... Show more content on

In particular, in the scene where Scout is playing with her schoolmates, Cecil Jacobs accuses her father of being a "nigger–lover" (Lee 82). This

their children, and so on. Finally, during the Christmas dinner, Jem and Scout sit through being tormented by their cousin Francis who persistently calls
Atticus a "nigger lover". Not short after, Scout loses her temper and punches Francis square in the face (Lee 110–111). These scenes are notable to the
theme of racism because it is finally crystal clear how Maycomb's disease is engulfing these kids one by

Why Is Scout Finch Good Or Bad
Some people say that Scout, the little innocent girl of Maycomb, has been taught some bad things and some wrong things from school and the

sometimes–baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn't hurt
you."(Atticus 144–145). Atticus may not be able to teach how to read properly, but he can give some very wise advice. "Now you tell your father not
to teach you anymore. It's best to begin reading with a fresh mind. You tell him I'll take over and try to undo the damage"(Miss Caroline 23). This
quote has already been stated, but while looking at the point from where it was stated that Scout did not have proper teachings. What was most likely
not thought about is, that after the fact that Miss Caroline said this, she taught Scout even more in depth than her other students because she was

The Stranger Research Paper
The exposure of religion usually starts at a young age, or in people's teenage years. When somebody is not exposed at these ages they usually seek it
out for themselves or never do. When they know nothing about religion or care nothing about it they usually disregard morals. This means they do
what they want because they do not believe in right and wrong. When they do not believe in these things they are usually seen as outsiders to the rest
of the world. Their way of life is affected like their emotions, relationships, and judgement. It is hard for them to get into a relationship because they
have little or show no emotions and can sometimes make bad decisions. In The Stranger, Monsieur Meursault is a young adult that was not exposed...

He shot an Arab that had been following Raymond because of what he did to the girl. Also because they had gotten into an argument earlier in the
day one in which Raymond had been hurt. He walked up to the spot where he thought they would be and shot and then waited and then shot him
multiple times. He not only shot him multiple times but the Arab did not even try to defend himself. Even though he shot him multiple times and
had a reason he states "I never intended to kill the Arab" (Camus 102). When at the trial the prosecutor supposedly observed him various times once
he even said that Meursault was "already a criminal at heart" (Camus 122). This statement was only made on the physical behavior Meursault was
displaying on the day of his mother's funeral. When the whole trail was supposed to be about how he killed the Arab his accusers somehow kept
bringing up the fact that he showed no affection towards his mother at the funeral. This show just how the society he is in and how they act is totally
opposite from his point of views. Meaning that how he does things will be seen by society as uncanny and they will condemn it as wrong. In the article
Justice and Morality in The Stranger by A. Chalana proves this by saying, "the justice given to Meursault by the court doesn't represent the beliefs of
those who actually know him and understand his philosophy, but rather those of an entity which

Aggression In Martha Stewart And Everybody Loves Raymond

  • 1. Aggression In Martha Stewart And Everybody Loves Raymond On the television there is way too much negativity that influence the youth and adults mind when we do not even know what is going on. The three television programs I observed had the following: physical, verbal, and relational (bullying). In the television show Martha Stewart she had few aggression in her show. In The Fairly Oddparents, it had way moreaggression than Martha Stewart and Everybody Loves Raymond. Now Everybody Loves Raymond has fewer more tv agressions than Martha Stewart. What is put on the television for the young and adults has an affect on our minds. The show Martha Stewart had not so much physical aggression in the show. When it came to verbal there was a lot more aggression there. The relational (bullying) was less than the verbal aggression. There was only two tally mark that rated the physical aggression for this show. In physical aggression Martha Stewart will act like a celebrity and just joke around thinking it would not hurt them and think it is a harmless game. For verbal aggression there was six tally marks that was a ranking. In the show she makes side jokes about celebrities and there mostly not side jokes but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is whenever Martha say something or do something her boss can see and makes a note of it. When she's off air he/she will talk to her and give her warnings but will lower her pay. Children might think it's okay to talk bad or say bad things about a actor or actress and do it in the real world. What ever they see on television they will copy it and reenact it. When Martha was being positive she was rewarded with great comments on whatever she did on her show. There was educational content in this show, when Martha was cooking or making a DIY she was teaching the viewers how to do things that they might not know they could have done or didn't know they could do ... • 2. Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody... Expectancy and Role Conflicts Illustrated in Everybody Loves Raymond Learning to communicate efficiently and manage conflict successfully is challenging. Gaining cooperation between people is complex and mentally demanding. Communication ways and conflict styles are deeply woven into our personalities. Conflict is the expressed struggle of interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, interference from the other party in achieving those goals, and the perception of scarce resources. Perceptions are just as important as reality in regards to conflict. As stated in the text, "we encounter conflict as we compete for acceptance, love, recognition, position, power, success, and many other goals. Judgments of the quality of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conflict here is that Robert's goals were to experience the freedom from his parents and not Amy. If either had used perception checking, it is possible that their conflict would have ended. The Attribution Theory is based upon assigning meanings for another's behavior. What we think to be true is not always accurate. It is necessary to implement proactive strategies such as perception checking. Perception checking involves three components. They are as stated: 1.A complete description of behavior observed 2.Provide two possible interpretations of the observed behavior 3.Request for clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered the termination stage together. As stated earlier and expressed here, conflict usually occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are often perceived in dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the Relationship Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in relationships. The number one cause for break ups is the relational dialectic, integration/separation. The two opposing forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy) and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr. McKinney illustrates these tensions as a contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship. Mediation is a wonderful process in negotiating a solution between two parties thwarted by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis On Everybody Loves Raymond Everybody loves Raymond is a show that was first released during the year of 1996 and ran all the way to 2005. The show is centered around Ray Barone, a talented sports writer who constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very sarcastic, no matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the responsibilities of child care and cleaning to his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful show, it still plays into the stereotypical behavior of Gender roles, which ultimately prevents society from making any real progress. At the beginning of episode 1, "Pilot" it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at home mother. This feeds into the belief that men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment Raymond walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing the first thing about kids, let alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all the time. It is very rare to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. This feeds into the stereotype that not only are women expected to be stay at home mothers, but that it should be expected because men are not as good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Character Analysis Of Squeaky In Raymond's Run Why do we have emotions? Emotions are the thing that form us all. Without these emotions we would just be robots. In life, you can experience good and bad emotions. These good and bad emotions are represented in the story "Raymond's Run" by Toni Cade Bambara. In this story the main character Squeaky. She is a very aggressive and tough person at first sight. However, in this story you can really see that everyone has a bright and generous side to them. Squeaky has many obstacles in her life, such as dealing with her brother Raymond. Even though Raymond has been a challenge in her life, she still cares about him. She protects him from people who hurt him just because he is different. She will go physical and verbal lengths to protect him from the bullies. Even though she is a aggressive mean girl, we can see that deep inside, her bad emotions there are good ones. Squeaky's bad emotions are mostly shown through aggressiveness. But the bad emotions are trying to hide the fact that Squeaky cares. As the start of the start of the story is happening, Squeaky is introducing Raymond. • 6. The Stranger Character Analysis The Stranger by Albert Camus follows the story of a man named Meursault, who received notice that his mother had passed away. Meursault was not emotionally connected to his mother, and his reaction is not what the reader would expect, as he did not seem to care at all. Therefore, the day after attending his mother's funeral, Meursault goes to the beach and meets up with his girlfriend, Marie. After the beach, Meursault and Marie go to a movie and spend the night together. When he returns home from work the next day, Meursault runs into his neighbor, Raymond, who beats his mistress. Later in the story, Meursault, Marie, and Raymond go to a beach house, which is owned by Raymond's friend, Masson. At the beach, Masson, Raymond, and Meursault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike round characters, flat characters do not change, but flat characters can be used to develop round characters. Marie, Meursault's girlfriend, is extremely emotionally attached to Meursault, and this is a weakness. Marie is dependent on Meursault as her source of happiness, even though Meursault does not show that he really cares about Marie. When asked if he loved her, he replied "it didn't mean anything and that [he] probably didn't love her" (41). Most people would despise being in a relationship in which they're unloved by their partner. However, Marie stays with Meursault, even if he does not actually love her. Marie staying in a relationship where she is not even loved, is the result of her being emotionally attached to someone who does not feel the same way about her. However, Marie's neediness also allows her to be extremely loyal. Loyalty is normally a strength, but Marie takes it to another level and makes her loyalty a weakness. Marie visited Meursault in prison and assures him"[he will] get out [of prison] and [they will] get married" (75). Even though Meursault murders someone, goes to jail and is sentenced to death, Marie stays with him almost all the way to the end of Meursault's life. • 7. The Sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond In the sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, airing on CBS in the late 90's and early 2000's we see an nuclear white family with two parents, two kids, grandparents, and a set of other relatives. The target audience appears to be within the age of 18–35 for this time period in comparison to other shows such as Frazier or Will and Grace. The family is very middle class oriented as far as the home, clothing, and jobs of the characters go. They live in the suburbs and are never too hurt for money. Playing into this story also comes the subtle humor and remarks at sexual acts that happen very often throughout each scene. However, you never actually see these sexual acts take place and there is no point of uncomfortable actions throughout this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The resolution comes when the drama is settled and all family members are satisfied with the solution. In direct correlation with the text that states, the action is set in motion when minor conflict situations flare up and heightened verbally through deceit or insults, Everybody Loves Raymond is a prime example of a comedy formula (Potter, 205). The patterns of Everybody Loves Raymond are ultimately formulaic for the 90 's. Families are nucleic and typical of the 90 's middle class working white population. There is a mom who stays at home and does all of the house work and takes care of the kids, while the father is aloof of all of the housework and children but works most of the day and is the sole source of income. Both parents are alive and a constant source of conflict as they (especially the grandmother and mother, as women are often portrayed as catty) are present and cause embarrassment. The children are hardly the center of attention at all plot wise. Most plots are surrounding the conflict between family members, especially disagreements between the husband and wife and between the mother–in–law and the wife. There are rarely any African Americans, even though the show takes place in Long Island, which has a high African American population, even back when the show was being made. • 8. Television vs. Reality It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network's primetime hit "Ally McBeal". Suddenly, just after the program resumes after a painstakingly long commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a night of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called "Some of My Best Friends". Almost immediately after you and your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and embracing each other. Upset by all of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave. In reality, most people like to believe that sex is a sign of love and, although there are also many exceptions to this rule, many still try and live by it. Today there are also many fears about AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases being spread. The characters on "Friends" seem to be completely immune and ignorant of sexually transmitted diseases while having sex with many different partners. Finally, another aspect that is falsely portrayed in this show is homosexuality. It seems that almost everywhere the main characters go there are homosexuals that are either hanging around the main characters or are attracted to them. In reality, the homosexual population only makes up around 10–12% of the U.S. population, so it would be unlikely that the main characters would run into that many homosexuals in the small areas where they live. The next show that I have researched is the CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond". Even though this show falls into the same category as "Friends", the shows are very different. One difference is that the main character in "Everybody Loves Raymond" is married. On "Friends", all of the main characters are single, and they have sexual relations more frequently. "Everybody Loves Raymond" does not present as much sex as most sitcoms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Gender Stereotypes : Modern Family And Every Body Loves... It is very well known to all that media is a big part of society today. It influenced how we see ourselves and the world to some extent. There are different types of media that is offered today, for example: TV, movies, radio, and newspapers. Within the different forms of media, women and men are represented in a certain way, all with different characteristics. In this essay, I will argue that there is similargender stereotypes presented in the shows Modern Family and Every Body Loves Raymond, and how they differ from the show Full House. To start off, Modern family is a show that started that in 2009 that falls within the genre of American sitcoms. Blending the idea of sitcoms with a family orientated plot, this show has been very popular among television audiences. As the title claims, the show tries to portray modern families. The family is made up of an older white male, and a younger Colombian trophy wife and her son from her first marriage. There is also another family consisting of a hard working dad, an over controlling mom, and their three children. Lastly, there is a family which consists of gay co–parents and their adopted Vietnamese child. While these family structures appear to be modern, the gender roles presented within the structure suggest something different. In our society, we carry an ideological assumption that a "normal" family consists of the man working to provide for the family and the women takes on the role of stay–at–home mom (Dow 1992). ... • 11. Analysis Of Strange Characters In The Stranger Strange Characters The Stranger by Albert Camus follows the story of a man named Meursault, who received notice that his mother had passed away. When he returns home from work the next day, Meursault runs into his neighbor, Raymond. Later in the story, Meursault, Marie, and Raymond go to a beach house, which is owned by one of Raymond's friend, Masson. At the beach, Masson, Raymond, and Meursault run into two Arabs, one who happens to be the brother of Raymond's mistress, who is obviously not on good terms with Raymond. Therefore, a fight breaks out and Raymond is stabbed. Later, Raymond and Meursault return to the beach, and run into the Arabs again. Meursault talks Raymond out of shooting the Arabs, however, later Meursault shoots Raymond's mistress's brother. Meursault is arrested and is put in jail, goes through trail, is found guilty and is sentenced to death. The characters in The Stranger are complex and one can learn a great deal from them. • 12. The Elderly Character Analysis : Everybody Loves Raymond The Elderly The show that I decided to watch and analyze about the elderly was Everybody Loves Raymond. I choose Everybody Loves Raymond because it is very relatable and understanding. The show is based on an Italian family living in Long Island New York dealing with everyday life situations. the main character Raymond must deal with his everyday life while dealing with his elderly parents who live right across the street as well. today we see that there are many stereotypes when it comes to the elderly, stereotypes such as the elderly can't remember things, they're nosey, or that they know it all. In the show, we see that Raymond's parents do fall into some of these stereotypes, but also, they do things that make us think that not all elderly people fall into these known stereotypes. We are so accustomed to leaving the elderly in places such as nursing homes whenever we feel like we have no need to take care of them anymore, or if they can't seem to do things on their own. Raymond's parents Marie and Frank are still able to do things on their own they still joke around and make fun of their kids. Even after retirement, and helping Raymond raise his kids, they still have Rob who lives with them. Even though their kids essentially make fun of their age, Marie and Frank somehow make the best out of situations. When we think about the elderly we usually think about old people who just sit around, watch television, and sleep. Marie and Frank make this stereotype ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, they may only reveal their true selves to some people and keep acting like a different person to everyone else, or keep everything to themselves and do not show anyone their true self. Jem and Scout have always thought that Mr. Raymond was drunk because everybody else in Maycomb thought of him in the same way: When Dolphus is going through the town on his thoroughbred horse, Jem says "Don't see how he stays in the saddle" because he feels the same way as the rest of the town, that he is drunk all of the time. Dolphus takes his sack bag, filled with "whiskey", around everywhere and he sips out of it every so often to appear to be drunk. He is also appeared to have had feelings for a black woman while about to get married to a Spencer lady, but when she found out that Dolphus had feeling for a black woman, she shot herself in the head. That is when the whole town thought that Dolphus started drinking. It is argued that it is just a long explanation of what "ALOHA– Ask, Listen, Observe, Help, Ask Again" truly means, but it shows the hardships that come with jumping over hurdles both physically and emotionally that result in unanticipated relationships. The Fundamentals of Caring contains indecent humor, weak sense of shock, but the acting was able to redeem itself and become pragmatic. The Fundamentals of Caring is about a new caregiver named Ben (Paul Rudd) who starts off taking care of Trevor (Craig Roberts) who has a rare disorder called DuchenneMuscular Dystrophy. Ben soon discovered that he likes to pull pranks that are over–the–top. For example, Trevor pretended to choke from his food and Ben did not realize he was joking and "freaked" out. Ben also uncovered Trevor had an interest in mapping out tourist sites because he believes he will never see them; it is his excitement. Ben plans and gets permission to bring ... • 29. Essay On The Story Of A Story "My, my, my! Isn't it a wonderful day Raymond?" said Walter as he carefully pulled up his car on the small driveway. Standing up, he brushed away any dirt on his nude suit and wing–tipped Oxfords. Besides Walter, Raymond hummed a small reply. Walter, content, continued on out to the quaint diner slumped in the middle of the paved road. The diner wasn't much. A small stoop and a door with a rusty metal frame on top was smack dab in its middle. On either side of the door was a row of windows and underneath, a poor paint job with an even thinner coat of varnish on top. Well, if the peeling paint was anything to go by, but that didn't matter to Walter. He breathed in the scent of the homemade apple pies and the freshly made coffee upon... Sighing, the young man took his fedora off and adjusted his black rayon tie. He yelled, "Jesus Christ, turn up the radio! I can't hear the weather." He paused before saying, "Gods. I sound like an old man, but I guess that's inevitable with you around as my babysitter for the next few weeks." He paused again, looking expectantly at Walter. Walter, though he was listening, was more interested in the girl. Walter waited impatiently as she was attending one customer ahead of them. "Raymond," Walter declared while adjusting his crimson silk tie. "You heard me right and let me not repeat this again. I will make that girl my wife." He punched his chest for extra emphasis. Raymond balked. "Did you not hear what I just said? Anyhow, I thought you were here to take me out for a good ole' brunch! A brunch that will fill my stomach with those tingling feelings like my ma's and make me a boy again. You were going crazy, yapping all about it once you bailed me out. Yet when you spot yourself a nice pair of gams, you go gaga, and your mind turns to putty. Some good, honest man you are, you old pervert," he blustered. "Shhh!" hissed Walter. "She's coming over here." Walter beamed as she approached. He should have known better that Raymond wouldn't understand. • 30. Absurdity In The Stranger By Albert Camus In the book The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the use of absurdity is at a great extent. Throughout the book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios that are carried out by the characters. This essay will point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the beginning of the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She lived in an old people's home because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her. Theabsurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed a tear at his own mother's funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the undertakers, "Was she old?" And Meursault replied, "Fairly," then after stating, "because I didn't know the exact number," (p.16). It is completely absurd to not know your own mother's age. Meursault also didn't want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That is purely absurd to do at one's own mother's funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The Stranger, would be Meursault's feelings towards his girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he loved her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn't love her. He even fantasizes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Essay On Judgement In To Kill A Mockingbird Beneath the Skin There will always be that one person that gets hate and one that everybody loves. Living up to other's expectation is an intricate way to fit in with society. Judgement isn't the only problem in this generation; judging somebody by their actions and appearances cause people to be outcasted which makes an impact on society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the narrator, Scout Finch, sums up what has happened in her preteen years, along with her brother, Jem Finch. As they are growing up, they face conflicts throughout their hometown, Maycomb. Maycomb is a small little town in Alabama full of judgemental racist hypocrites. One day, their dad, Atticus Finch, is set off to handle a case about anAfrican American, Tom Robinson, being framed for 'raping' a young white girl, Mayella Ewell, daughter in of the lowest families. As a lawyer, Atticus was up with Tom. After losing the case against Mayella's dad, Bob Ewells, Scout, and Jem have lost their social issues. In a city like Maycomb, residents and citizens are making critiques while being prejudice when it comes to segregation and racism. Furthermore, the novel explains that people like to judge and reject the unfamiliar. Judgement is one of society's biggest conflict. In chapter 9, Atticus tries to explain to the housekeeper, Calpurnia, about why he wants the kids to grow up in the right direction saying, "Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is ... • 32. Louisa Please Come Home Summary In the short story "Louisa, Please Come Home," by Shirley Jackson, the author teaches that family isn't always the people connected by blood. When Louisa first gets to Mrs. Peacock to get a room, Mrs. Peacock tells Louisa that she will "take as good care of [Louisa] as [Louisa's] own mother would" (35). Additionally, Mrs. Peacock finds jobs for Louisa, and even says herself that she is "personally responsible" (35) for her. Mrs. Peacock isn't only the owner of the house Louisa lived in, she also behaves motherly to her. As demonstrated in the quote above, Mrs. Peacock will take as good care of her as a mother would. She even admits that she calls Raymond her "little brother" (14) even though he is bigger and older. There are "a lot of smart mouths [that] got lots to say about [Raymond's mental disability]" (14), yet Squeaky still sticks up for him. This quote demonstrates that Squeaky really cares for Raymond, even being motherly. Thinking of one's older brother as younger implies that she cares about him a lot. Also, when Mary Louise Williams, a bully, teases Raymond, Squeaky replies, "You got anything to say to my brother, you say it to me, Mary Louise Williams of Raggedy Town, Baltimore" (16). Despite Raymond being different than everybody else, Squeaky still protects and helps him when there are bullies, something only a kind caring sister would do. When Squeaky noticed Raymond running towards her, she thought, "I can always retire as a runner and begin a whole new career as a coach" (19). She stands up for her even though he's "not quite right" (14). The fact that she is willing to stop running, which she has done her whole life, to coach Raymond expresses that Squeaky really cares for Raymond and wants him to have a good ... In To Kill A Mockingbird, Dolphus Raymond is a white man who is married to an African American woman. He faces challenges because he lives in a racist town. He chooses to not care and ignore them. Social norms in the town Maycomb is that everyone is racist. Some African Americans are treated very poorly. Also, white people were to stay proper. In the movie Titanic, Rose DeWitt Bukater is a rich girl who falls in love with a poor boy Jack Dawson. Many people including her mother disapprove of this because it was not proper. Rose decides to avoid the rules. Social norms in the 1910's are that people were segregated in a different way. • 34. Examples Of Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird The world is a mosaic of all different cultures and colors, and either these differences can clash, causing a problem, or combine to make something uniquely beautiful. When people clash, it creates war and destruction, leaving people distraught, but when these very same people choose to combine what they know and believe in it can bring wonderful things into the world like celebrations and children. The cultures and societies that these people believe in have their own way of living and different rules. Some cultures may not support the combination of white and black while others would kill to see it. These societies' all over the world deem certain practices and people to be acceptable, whether it is an established caste system or a simple friend group in high school. But within these structures come irregularities and outcasts. As seen in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Dolphus Raymond's mixed children, Scout, and Jem are considered anomalies. While Lee portrays this treatment of individuals unfairly in a literary work, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novel, racism is usually interpreted as a white person treating a black person poorly such as the Ewells to Tom Robinson. There is also a small scene which contradicts it in which Lula, a black woman, says, "You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here –they got their church, we got our'n..."(Lee 136). She says this to two white children, Jem and Scout, who ironically are part of the only family trying to help Tom Robinson, her church peer. When analyzing the context it is easy to say that they are in a church and she may feel violated because that church is supposed to be only for the black community or she may be racist and have no reason to personally hate the children. This situation makes Scout and Jem outcasts in this community because of their skin color and because of the common belief of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. To Kill A Mockingbird Racism Quotes The Great Depression was a catastrophic time in America. The norms were strict, and Jim Crow laws were in effect. In the scene, where Scout is reflecting back on Tom's death, the theme of racism is portrayed through the external conflict of the town's extreme racism. This scene is significant to the novel because Scout goes into detail on the town's prejudice and ignorant point of view. This chapter in the book puts the town to great shame when Scout says, "To Maycomb, Tom's death was typical" (Lee 322). This quote indicates that to the community the death of a black man was so incredibly insignificant, and Maycomb would indeed make light of the matter and carry on to the next available gossip. Furthermore, Scout refers to the black community when she mentions, "You know how they are. Easy come, Easy go" (Lee 322). This comment dehumanizes blacks and establishes them as extraneous as possible. An additional example of blacks being barbarized is shown in the courtroom scene, when Lawyer Gilmer continually refers to Tom Robinson as "boy", clearly not acknowledging him and furthermore playing into the theme of racism.... Finally, during the Christmas dinner, Jem and Scout sit through being tormented by their cousin Francis who persistently calls Atticus a "nigger lover". • 37. Some Of The Things We See Our Everyday Life Like Movies Shawn Scott Professor Stief English 1302.707 22 April 2017 Title Some of the things we see in our everyday life like movies, television shows, or commercials depict different stereotypes of men. Men are depicted to be people who are careless, make stupid mistakes, are self–centered, independent, and strong. They bring the money home and support the family, and the stars of the show but are often incapable of solving the simplists of problems. In these examples there are many times women in the background that hold everything together. These ideas can shape expectations and can be influential to young viewers. Men in most movies are depicted as the bad guys. In all movies, with the exception of superhero movies, men are the ones that do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miles was the type of guy that would do anything and everything to get people's eyes on him.In one scene the Panthers were beating a team really bad and as it got toward the end of the game, the coach wanted to put in the second string running back. Boobie could not have this so he hid the other running back's helmet so the coach would have no choice but to keep Boobie in the game. This movie makes it seem that if you are not an athlete you are lesser of a person. Young people could take the concept of a team as unimportant because of this movie. The film would promote the idea that it is only up to one's self to have success and not the other individuals on the field. Being an athlete could also become an excuse for getting away with things. In Friday Night Lights Boobie Miles uses the fact that he is a really good athlete to take advantage of things he would not be able to get away with if he was not a popular football player in his town. One thing that he does try to get away with is not doing any school work. Why Is Scout Finch Good Or Bad Some people say that Scout, the little innocent girl of Maycomb, has been taught some bad things and some wrong things from school and the people around her; others would say the otherwise. The book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, there is many argumentative topics. This essay will be covering both sides of whether or not Scout was educated with the right things, or emmersed with what he could have processed either good or bad. Scout's father, Atticus, taught him until he was old enough to go to public school. Scout's teacher says he has been taught very poorly by his father Atticus. "Now you tell your father not to teach you anymore. It's best to begin reading with a fresh mind. You tell him I'll take over and try to undo the damage"(Miss Caroline 23). When somebody is not exposed at these ages they usually seek it out for themselves or never do. When they know nothing about religion or care nothing about it they usually disregard morals. This means they do what they want because they do not believe in right and wrong. When they do not believe in these things they are usually seen as outsiders to the rest of the world.
