Don't rely entirely on spelling and grammar checkers. These can be useful tools but they are far
from foolproof. Spell checkers have a limited dictionary, so some words that show up as
misspelled may really just not be in their memory. In addition, spell checkers will not catch
misspellings that form another valid word. For example, if you type "your" instead of "you're,"
"to" instead of "too," or "there" instead of "their," the spell checker won't catch the error.
Grammar checkers can be even more problematic. These programs work with a limited number of

increasing amount of emotion being shown through grammar and punctuation rather than through

Since such a large portion of our generation relies on texting to communicate information and chat
with one another, I believe that there must be some way to explain my mood to my friend. If I'm
not in the mood to talk I add a period at the end of my text. If I'm super excited I add ten million
exclamation points and a happy emoji. If I'm stuck on a question in my math homework and I
really need help I insert three question marks, "???" after I stress my dilemma. Each one of us

War of the Words In the article, "Does Punctuation in Text Messages Matter?", by Shannon Doyne,
proclaims that the way people use punctuation in texting and emails is harming people and the
world. Her views of how proper punctuation is important is strongly disagreeable because it matters
more on what the message means rather than the punctuation. Shannon argues, "Recently, a friend I
had dinner plans with sent a text to ask 'what time' ... And yet the question... felt indifferent, almost
cold. Couldn't she at least bother to insert the necessary character?"(Shannon) Most people would
have no problem with the text because it is getting the message clear telling what time as in dinner.

Reference. By reading that chapter I think I will learn about coordinating conjunctions and different
ways to users use commas and when to use them. I hope to gain more skills that will help me

Despite its unconventional presentation, this essay provides quite a bit of valuable information
about punctuation. It expresses the different emotions and impressions associated with the use of
various punctuation marks in writing. For example, the beginning of the essay defines question
marks and exclamation points as "indicators of tone" rather than stops. This means that they convey

Writing has always been a challenge for me. This is well evidenced by reading papers I wrote as
recently as this past August. Concepts such as flow, content, vocabulary, structure, organization,

Transitional words can be tricky sometimes. Although, I am now able to pick them out in every

In the novel, "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" written by the British author Lynne Truss, the art of
punctuation is the topic of the whole story and is heavily exaggerated throughout, and this is the
method that the author uses to get her point across. The point is that punctuation is a vital part of
our world, but some scenes left me saying, "It's just a punctuation mark!" The book also left me
feeling that Lynne was very pretentious especially with scenes such as when she wrote back to a
pen pal concerning her errors in spelling. For me, this was one of the memorable scenes and one of
the many methods she used. Another method would have to be the humor, and I did find it dramatic
with some of the scenes, which is what made it so funny to know that people actually care so much

The Checkers fail to notice many grammar and spelling errors. The checkers only identified the
words Japanese, Kokugo, and Nihingo as spelling errors. The checkers also identified the "a" in
"The Japanse have a almost mystical...", and "they " as grammar error. They gave a correct

poems is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital
letters, dots, and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily
Dickinson uses punctuation in a non–traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect
and meaning of her works, such as "My Life had stoodп‚ѕa Loaded Gunп‚ѕ," "After great pain, a
formal feeling comesп‚ѕ," and "Wild Nightsп‚ѕWild Nights!"
