Definition Essay On Honesty
Some do it each day, others do it once in awhile, and there are some who try to avoid it. Honesty,
something we have been taught since kindergarten, is still a term misused by people. The
Merriam–Webster definition of honesty is fairness and straightforwardness of conduct; adherence to
the facts (Honesty). People may lie to get out of a situation right in the moment, but eventually it
may fill them with guilt for days to come. Honesty takes a long time to get earned; "Honest Abe"
wasn't just given to Abraham Lincoln for no reason, he earned it. Even though some people may
think lying is okay, honesty will benefit them more in the long run; even if it is brutal honesty.
To start off, honesty may not be an exciting trait, but there are times...show more content...
One person is starving and doesn't get paid until next week, but he reads a sign that says "Get a
free dessert for your birthday". The only problem is that his birthday passed 6 months ago. He
decided since he didn't get one on his birthday, it is okay to ask for the desert, saying his birthday
is today. Reality is, that kid missed coming in for his birthday to get the treat, so he isn't eligible
for it. Just because the place doesn't ask for an ID, people don't need to lie. Now his friends may
think differently of his integrity, his respect, and of course, his honesty over a five dollar desert.
Honesty can be just like when people are infected with the flu virus; it can be inside of our bodies
without us even knowing. Eventually, the virus will affect us, leaving us ill for days. Lying is like
the virus inside of us, not knowing we have it and go on each day like normal. Then when the
illness affects us, it is just like honesty, having to come out because keeping the lies hidden will only
last a certain amount of time. We sometimes lie to keep situations from turning ugly, but eventually
we have to be

In my own word, I believe honesty is being truthful to everyone including you. An example of how
my behavior exemplifies honesty is, I'm open to my coworker to communicate what I think or feel

them too. It could even be my family; I will tell them the truth, the truth hurt but it is the truth.

Honesty
Imagine this: You are at a McDonald's drive through. You have ordered only one cheese burger, but
when you drive up to the collection window, the young trainee hands you a big bag filled with food
and a handful of change. There are two options, do you, A; tell the young trainee that you only
ordered a cheese burger, (which cost you only $1.90) and give back to him the big bag of food and
handful of change? Or do you, B; say thank you to the young trainee and drive off happily with the
huge bag of food and all the change, feeling lucky that the trainee made a mistake with your order.
Of course, the first action suggested above, (A) is the honest and truthful way to resolve the
problem. However, unfortunately, most of...show more content...
This in turn will agitate the people in the long line behind you even more.
In this particular scenario, the latter solution (B) is the morally correct action, even though it may
agitate the people in the line, you are doing the right thing and being honest. Once again, most
adolescents would act out the morally incorrect solution and see it as just a little bonus cash on
behalf of the colour–blind checkout girl (even though most adolescents don't do any shopping).
Imagine if you were that particular checkout girl. Because of the fact that you are colour–blind, you
can barely tell the difference between the different banknotes apart from their size and the number
in the top right hand corner. Your boss is looking over your shoulder to see how you are doing
because he is waiting for the last customers to leave so that he can close the doors and go home for
the night. He spots your mistake but the sinful adolescent has already left. After the gates have been
closed, the store manager summons you to his office to have one of his 'little chats'. You immediate
think of the worst–case scenario, could you have been fired? When you reach his office, he vividly
tells you about the mistake, which you had unknowingly made just minutes earlier. He then
continues to tell you that the sum of money will be taken out of your fortnightly pay cheque. 'Phew!'

Importance Of Honesty Essay
Honesty is an important thing and one of my personal rules. That is why I think that "AGUWAYS"
has no serious impact in my point of views. For me talking about global issues is not a new thing, I
have been talking for years about it. But in some stuff have been learning from the conversations that
happened in the past two classes. Respecting and listening to others is one thing I have learned.
Despite the superficial of some ideas and the blindness of analyzing the problems and finding the
main issue. I learnt patience and tried to understand their point of views. The good ones and the
absurd ones. An example of a good subject is the lack of education; I have never thought about that
subject and never tried to connect to the real problem of the meantime which is Capitalism as I
believe. How it can be and how it effects? How is it a part of the issue? Why it is there? And how
the capitalists are using it? Those were the question that till now still without an answer. In the other
hand, some point and arguments were absolutely absurd for an example, terrorism. Some think it is
a just an effect of lack of education and terrorists generally are people with no education, but I should

Why Is Honesty Important
Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my
success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance
of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being
trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how
people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very
difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for
it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the

What is Honesty and Why Did I Develop It? Essay
What is honesty? To me honesty is to tell the truth and not to lie to others and be fair. Honesty is a
good quality trait for someone to have which tells a lot about their personality. Honesty is a
characteristic that I have because of hearing in school about being honest, the experience I had as a
child, and most important the example my parents gave me. There are many factors that led me to
develop the characteristics of being honest. One was the influence I had during school. In school
they had rules and honesty was one of the most important ones. The rules were really reinforced so
in the classrooms there was one poster of the rules and all the students had to know them. I observed
how the students would be honest to the teachers...show more content...
This made me realize that telling the truth or being honest to others would make them be kind to me
and help me out more.
Another reason that caused me to develop the trait of honesty was my childhood experiences. One
childhood experience that stays in my memory and I cannot forget was when I had a fight with my
best friend. My friend told me a lie about not taking a toy that was really important to me. I did not
speak to her for two days, but she was my best friend and gave me back my toy and we made up.
Another thing is that I saw how my siblings would lie to my parents and they would get mad at
them and my siblings ended up getting in trouble. I also was not honest with my parents and I too
would get in trouble. My siblings and I would get punished so our parents took our toys, not
letting us see television for a day, and other privileges we had. They knew those things were
important to us because that was how we spend out time and my parents felt by taking those
things away we would learn. I did learned since I was young I did not like when my parents would
take away my toys or privileges and decided I would tell the truth instead. Of course I would still
get in trouble if I did something bad, but if I admitted and told them the truth they would not take
my toys away for a day just a few hours. However, there were those times I would get rewarded
instead. This was another factor that really helped me to develop my trait of being

Essay about Honesty and Trust
Honesty and Trust
Several decades ago I used to enjoy an occasional lunch in with the late Professor G. Warren Nutter, a
distinguished economist who taught at the University of Virginia. Professor Nutter had considerable
expertise in comparative economic systems, particularly that of the former Soviet Union. While he
had a deep understanding of economic theory, he always stressed that markets do not operate within
a vacuum and we gain a greater understanding of human behavior if we paid attention to the role of
institutions and other non–market forces.
At one of our luncheons, just out of the clear blue sky, and maybe just to tease me into an argument,
Professor Nutter said that if we had to stop to count our change each...show more content...
A salesman says, "If you're not satisfied with your order, bring it back and your money will be
refunded." Or, "Mow my lawn and I'll pay you." In literally millions upon millions of transactions
like these, we simply trust each other.
Imagine the costs and inconvenience we'd suffer if people were generally dishonest and we couldn't
trust anyone. We would have to lug around measuring instruments to ensure, for example, that it was
ten gallons of gas and one pound of steak we purchased. We'd have to bear the costly burden of
writing contracts instead of relying on a buyer's or seller's word, and bear the monitoring expense to
ensure compliance in the simplest of transactions. It's safe to say that whatever undermines trust and
confidence raises the costs of transactions and makes us worse off.
But generalized honesty and trust go further than that. I live in the Main Line suburbs of
Philadelphia. FedEx, UPS, and other deliverymen leave packages containing valuable items on the
doorstep if we're not home. A local supermarket leaves plants, fertilizer, and other home and garden
items outdoors overnight with no one to guard them from theft. Entering the store, one sees loads of
merchandise left unattended in the entryway. In neighborhoods where there's less honesty, leaving
merchandise on doorsteps, outdoors overnight, and

Being Honest And Honest With Others
Being straightforward and honest with others may be more simpler than being honest with
yourself. We read articles, books, and magazines that always talk about a certain character, this
character is described in many different ways, we learn their likes, their struggles, their
achievements, etc. Wouldn't it be much simpler to just take a book about ourselves and read it.
Later analyze the text and write notes on our self and see how we react to certain situations or how
we learn better. This would be great to have because it would help me learn about myself which can
sometimes be harder than learning about someone else. It would help me be successful because it
can guide me in the right way, like take the right decision, study the right way. Thankfully, there are
people out there who test human personality, thanks to online and in–text tests about personality
help us figure out how we learn best and how we are to react to a certain situation. Knowing this
will help me work better with myself when assigned a certain task. Spatial, visual, and tactile, just a
few of the results that were given to me after taking many tests. A total of four tests were taken the
first was one found in–text in a book used in class. In the first test it was about learning styles, after
answering all the questions, I primarily fell into the category of being a visual/graphic learner, but
fairly close was tactile/kinesthetic and auditory/verbal. These results from the first test was really

"Honesty is the best policy", we have all heard this saying time and time again. From a very young
age we have been told lying is frowned upon and yet it seems to be an innate skill rooted deep
within us. While basic in nature, telling the truth seems to be an extremely difficult task for the
majority of people. Being honest often goes against our natural instinct of self preservation. Those
who are able to rise above the temptation of lying and resist the easy way out of uncomfortable
situations truly understand what it means to be an honest person. Honesty is the single most
important virtue that a person can have. It builds the foundation for healthy relationships, it is
essential in building trust and having integrity, and tells a lot about someones character. The
challenging aspect of honesty is it isn't black white. Some might argue it is best to lie in order to
protect someones feelings or to keep the peace. There is the age old question, "does this make me
look fat?". It has been ingrained into the minds of men everywhere that the answer is always no. It
has come to be a common belief that it is better to protect someones feelings rather than give it to
them straight. This is where society is sadly mistaken. Being an honest person is more than just
telling the truth when it is beneficial, it is about always sticking to the truth no matter the
repercussions. An honest person does not just tell the truth when asked, but willing presents the

Why Being Honest Is Better Than Being Honest?
One of the most common phrases said from parent to child in our culture is, "If you do not have
anything nice to say, do not say anything at all." Most kids believe their parents because it makes
sense. Most kids want to be kind, and it appears that this is the best way to do exactly that.
However, the problem lies with the end result. As I personally grew, I learned that this philosophy,
although good in its intentions, results in a negative consequence. I discovered that being honest is
the only way to easily and effectively interact with the people around me. Once I released this idea
from my life, I realized that I felt less obligated to be nice. My thoughts turned to how to be the best
person possible, helping myself, and others, in the process. In order to communicate correctly, with
as little ambiguity as possible, the human race must also let go of the idea that "if you do not have
anything nice to say, do not say anything at all."
In today's society, people have fallen into the trap of sensitivity over honesty. In her article "Why
Being Honest is Better Than Being Nice," Allison Fallon said, "Few things in life are more trapping
than the feeling of having things you want – no, need – to say to your boss, your friend, your
significant other, your co–worker, your roommate, your neighbor and yet, the words just will not
come out." Fallon goes on to explain that scientific research has been conducted on people who have
stayed nice, rather than honest, for days at a

along with the performance of integrity, compassion, and other powerful traits, is one of the most
influential and difficult Laws of Life to endure. Mahatma Gandhi put this into words wonderfully,
suggesting that, "It is difficult, but not impossible, to conduct strictly honest business." The Laws of

After that day, I considered honesty one of my biggest priorities. Come today, I have been in a

greater feeling than laying the truth off your back. Because of Drew, I have been able to exert
honesty, which comes with other traits, such as compassion and bravery, in my daily life.
Although I admit I am not perfect, nor remotely close to it, I do believe, from the bottom of my
heart, that honesty is the best policy. Honesty is considered a "Law of Life" because it is a
propitious and positive principle that guides behavior towards a truly successful life. Mary Kay
Ash, an extremely successful businesswoman, exemplarily fostered honesty and trust in her life.
She wrote, "Honesty is the cornerstone of all success, without which confidence and ability to
perform shall cease to exist." Mary shows, clearly, how honesty is a prominent "Law of Life" and
how it is a necessary principle to follow in order to achieve success. Although dishonest people

Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to do.
There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for
choosing honesty in life are many – including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one's
sense of moral integrity – living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living
with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living
your life in a way that is "honest" to who you are on the inside – your strengths, your gifts, and your

In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle
sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in
deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether
we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience.
Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by
negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is
where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from
ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities
which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with
other members of international community.
In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one's way in a world
that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while conveying issues
as they would have an impact on one's surroundings. Building up of personal relationships depends
upon your choice of words, how you convey them to the concerned

Defining Honesty Essay
Defining Honesty Winston Churchill once said, "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most

Honesty is classified as a noun in part of speech. Honesty has many similar meanings; such as
uprightness, morality, trustworthiness, goodness, scrupulousness, decency, rectitude, righteousness,
fairness, reliability and honor. These synonyms are all equal to truth. The meaning of honesty in
this essay is applied about truth. An example of is could be that Jen is an honest person in the
world, she never lies, respects others, and when she is tempted to cheat on her test, she overcomes
with her power of honesty. This fits the definition about truthfulness in everything.
There is also another different meaning of honesty, such as plants with flat papery seed pods: a
hardy European plant with purplish or white flowers and flat silvery seed pods that are often used
for indoor decoration. Its' Latin name is Lunaria annua. It also called silver dollar, money plant, and
satin flower. This meaning is totally different than average people know about the honesty. Normally
people won't think honesty as a plant–related thing. Many would be surprised by this definition.
'How many would go and say honesty is a beautiful plant?'

Honesty is one of the driving forces of the medical profession such that when cases arise where
this duty has to be broken in order to uphold other duties, a careful consideration of both codes of

Essay Honesty

  • 1. Definition Essay On Honesty Some do it each day, others do it once in awhile, and there are some who try to avoid it. Honesty, something we have been taught since kindergarten, is still a term misused by people. The Merriam–Webster definition of honesty is fairness and straightforwardness of conduct; adherence to the facts (Honesty). People may lie to get out of a situation right in the moment, but eventually it may fill them with guilt for days to come. Honesty takes a long time to get earned; "Honest Abe" wasn't just given to Abraham Lincoln for no reason, he earned it. Even though some people may think lying is okay, honesty will benefit them more in the long run; even if it is brutal honesty. To start off, honesty may not be an exciting trait, but there are times...show more content... One person is starving and doesn't get paid until next week, but he reads a sign that says "Get a free dessert for your birthday". The only problem is that his birthday passed 6 months ago. He decided since he didn't get one on his birthday, it is okay to ask for the desert, saying his birthday is today. Reality is, that kid missed coming in for his birthday to get the treat, so he isn't eligible for it. Just because the place doesn't ask for an ID, people don't need to lie. Now his friends may think differently of his integrity, his respect, and of course, his honesty over a five dollar desert. Honesty can be just like when people are infected with the flu virus; it can be inside of our bodies without us even knowing. Eventually, the virus will affect us, leaving us ill for days. Lying is like the virus inside of us, not knowing we have it and go on each day like normal. Then when the illness affects us, it is just like honesty, having to come out because keeping the lies hidden will only last a certain amount of time. We sometimes lie to keep situations from turning ugly, but eventually we have to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

An example of how my behavior exemplifies honesty is, I'm open to my coworker to communicate what I think or feel about them, especially when they are not doing the right thing when it comes to the cares of the residents. I do not talk behind their back, and I am willing to listen and accept corrections from them too. It could even be my family; I will tell them the truth, the truth hurt but it is the truth. Additionally, my personal definition of ethics and how, as a health care professional, will put these characteristics into action in caring for my patients or clients, first my definition of ethic is doing the right thing as my bosses expect of me. • 4. Essay about Honesty Honesty Imagine this: You are at a McDonald's drive through. You have ordered only one cheese burger, but when you drive up to the collection window, the young trainee hands you a big bag filled with food and a handful of change. There are two options, do you, A; tell the young trainee that you only ordered a cheese burger, (which cost you only $1.90) and give back to him the big bag of food and handful of change? Or do you, B; say thank you to the young trainee and drive off happily with the huge bag of food and all the change, feeling lucky that the trainee made a mistake with your order. Of course, the first action suggested above, (A) is the honest and truthful way to resolve the problem. However, unfortunately, most of...show more content... This in turn will agitate the people in the long line behind you even more. In this particular scenario, the latter solution (B) is the morally correct action, even though it may agitate the people in the line, you are doing the right thing and being honest. Once again, most adolescents would act out the morally incorrect solution and see it as just a little bonus cash on behalf of the colour–blind checkout girl (even though most adolescents don't do any shopping). Imagine if you were that particular checkout girl. Because of the fact that you are colour–blind, you can barely tell the difference between the different banknotes apart from their size and the number in the top right hand corner. Your boss is looking over your shoulder to see how you are doing because he is waiting for the last customers to leave so that he can close the doors and go home for the night. He spots your mistake but the sinful adolescent has already left. After the gates have been closed, the store manager summons you to his office to have one of his 'little chats'. You immediate think of the worst–case scenario, could you have been fired? When you reach his office, he vividly tells you about the mistake, which you had unknowingly made just minutes earlier. He then continues to tell you that the sum of money will be taken out of your fortnightly pay cheque. 'Phew!' You think to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Importance Of Honesty Essay Honesty is an important thing and one of my personal rules. That is why I think that "AGUWAYS" has no serious impact in my point of views. For me talking about global issues is not a new thing, I have been talking for years about it. But in some stuff have been learning from the conversations that happened in the past two classes. Respecting and listening to others is one thing I have learned. Despite the superficial of some ideas and the blindness of analyzing the problems and finding the main issue. I learnt patience and tried to understand their point of views. The good ones and the absurd ones. An example of a good subject is the lack of education; I have never thought about that subject and never tried to connect to the real problem of the meantime which is Capitalism as I believe. How it can be and how it effects? How is it a part of the issue? Why it is there? And how the capitalists are using it? Those were the question that till now still without an answer. In the other hand, some point and arguments were absolutely absurd for an example, terrorism. Some think it is a just an effect of lack of education and terrorists generally are people with no education, but I should ...show more content... • 6. Why Is Honesty Important Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the world was a great place where all people genuinely cared...show more content... • 7. What is Honesty and Why Did I Develop It? Essay What is honesty? To me honesty is to tell the truth and not to lie to others and be fair. Honesty is a good quality trait for someone to have which tells a lot about their personality. Honesty is a characteristic that I have because of hearing in school about being honest, the experience I had as a child, and most important the example my parents gave me. There are many factors that led me to develop the characteristics of being honest. One was the influence I had during school. In school they had rules and honesty was one of the most important ones. The rules were really reinforced so in the classrooms there was one poster of the rules and all the students had to know them. I observed how the students would be honest to the teachers...show more content... This made me realize that telling the truth or being honest to others would make them be kind to me and help me out more. Another reason that caused me to develop the trait of honesty was my childhood experiences. One childhood experience that stays in my memory and I cannot forget was when I had a fight with my best friend. My friend told me a lie about not taking a toy that was really important to me. I did not speak to her for two days, but she was my best friend and gave me back my toy and we made up. Another thing is that I saw how my siblings would lie to my parents and they would get mad at them and my siblings ended up getting in trouble. I also was not honest with my parents and I too would get in trouble. My siblings and I would get punished so our parents took our toys, not letting us see television for a day, and other privileges we had. They knew those things were important to us because that was how we spend out time and my parents felt by taking those things away we would learn. I did learned since I was young I did not like when my parents would take away my toys or privileges and decided I would tell the truth instead. Of course I would still get in trouble if I did something bad, but if I admitted and told them the truth they would not take my toys away for a day just a few hours. However, there were those times I would get rewarded instead. This was another factor that really helped me to develop my trait of being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay about Honesty and Trust Honesty and Trust Several decades ago I used to enjoy an occasional lunch in with the late Professor G. Warren Nutter, a distinguished economist who taught at the University of Virginia. Professor Nutter had considerable expertise in comparative economic systems, particularly that of the former Soviet Union. While he had a deep understanding of economic theory, he always stressed that markets do not operate within a vacuum and we gain a greater understanding of human behavior if we paid attention to the role of institutions and other non–market forces. At one of our luncheons, just out of the clear blue sky, and maybe just to tease me into an argument, Professor Nutter said that if we had to stop to count our change each...show more content... A salesman says, "If you're not satisfied with your order, bring it back and your money will be refunded." Or, "Mow my lawn and I'll pay you." In literally millions upon millions of transactions like these, we simply trust each other. Imagine the costs and inconvenience we'd suffer if people were generally dishonest and we couldn't trust anyone. We would have to lug around measuring instruments to ensure, for example, that it was ten gallons of gas and one pound of steak we purchased. We'd have to bear the costly burden of writing contracts instead of relying on a buyer's or seller's word, and bear the monitoring expense to ensure compliance in the simplest of transactions. It's safe to say that whatever undermines trust and confidence raises the costs of transactions and makes us worse off. But generalized honesty and trust go further than that. I live in the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia. FedEx, UPS, and other deliverymen leave packages containing valuable items on the doorstep if we're not home. A local supermarket leaves plants, fertilizer, and other home and garden items outdoors overnight with no one to guard them from theft. Entering the store, one sees loads of merchandise left unattended in the entryway. In neighborhoods where there's less honesty, leaving merchandise on doorsteps, outdoors overnight, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Being Honest And Honest With Others Being straightforward and honest with others may be more simpler than being honest with yourself. We read articles, books, and magazines that always talk about a certain character, this character is described in many different ways, we learn their likes, their struggles, their achievements, etc. Wouldn't it be much simpler to just take a book about ourselves and read it. Later analyze the text and write notes on our self and see how we react to certain situations or how we learn better. This would be great to have because it would help me learn about myself which can sometimes be harder than learning about someone else. It would help me be successful because it can guide me in the right way, like take the right decision, study the right way. Thankfully, there are people out there who test human personality, thanks to online and in–text tests about personality help us figure out how we learn best and how we are to react to a certain situation. Knowing this will help me work better with myself when assigned a certain task. Spatial, visual, and tactile, just a few of the results that were given to me after taking many tests. A total of four tests were taken the first was one found in–text in a book used in class. In the first test it was about learning styles, after answering all the questions, I primarily fell into the category of being a visual/graphic learner, but fairly close was tactile/kinesthetic and auditory/verbal. Definition Essay: The Value Of Honesty Honesty "is the refusal to fake reality–i.e., to pretend that facts are other than they are."1 It can be described as the flip side of rationality: Whereas rationality is the commitment to think, judge, and act with respect to the relevant facts, honesty is the commitment not to do otherwise." Honesty is by definition the quality of being honest Humans lie by nature as a part of our nature is to sin, now if you claim to of never lied then that in itself is a lie. Humans as a whole are constantly striving for what they consider as a better world or good, now that in and of itself is a pretty idea if some of the parts of the whole human community didn't lie or cheat others for personal gain. • 12. Eassy On Honesty "Honesty is the best policy", we have all heard this saying time and time again. From a very young age we have been told lying is frowned upon and yet it seems to be an innate skill rooted deep within us. While basic in nature, telling the truth seems to be an extremely difficult task for the majority of people. Being honest often goes against our natural instinct of self preservation. Those who are able to rise above the temptation of lying and resist the easy way out of uncomfortable situations truly understand what it means to be an honest person. Honesty is the single most important virtue that a person can have. It builds the foundation for healthy relationships, it is essential in building trust and having integrity, and tells a lot about someones character. The challenging aspect of honesty is it isn't black white. Some might argue it is best to lie in order to protect someones feelings or to keep the peace. There is the age old question, "does this make me look fat?". It has been ingrained into the minds of men everywhere that the answer is always no. It has come to be a common belief that it is better to protect someones feelings rather than give it to them straight. This is where society is sadly mistaken. Being an honest person is more than just telling the truth when it is beneficial, it is about always sticking to the truth no matter the repercussions. An honest person does not just tell the truth when asked, but willing presents the information without being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Why Being Honest Is Better Than Being Honest? One of the most common phrases said from parent to child in our culture is, "If you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all." Most kids believe their parents because it makes sense. Most kids want to be kind, and it appears that this is the best way to do exactly that. However, the problem lies with the end result. As I personally grew, I learned that this philosophy, although good in its intentions, results in a negative consequence. I discovered that being honest is the only way to easily and effectively interact with the people around me. Once I released this idea from my life, I realized that I felt less obligated to be nice. My thoughts turned to how to be the best person possible, helping myself, and others, in the process. In order to communicate correctly, with as little ambiguity as possible, the human race must also let go of the idea that "if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all." In today's society, people have fallen into the trap of sensitivity over honesty. In her article "Why Being Honest is Better Than Being Nice," Allison Fallon said, "Few things in life are more trapping than the feeling of having things you want – no, need – to say to your boss, your friend, your significant other, your co–worker, your roommate, your neighbor and yet, the words just will not come out." Fallon goes on to explain that scientific research has been conducted on people who have stayed nice, rather than honest, for days at a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
