Early Childhood Education Statement
Write a statement of your goals and of your commitment to a career in education. My goal in early childhood education is to provide children with a
strong educational foundation through developmentally appropriate practices. All children are on different developmental levels and should be met
where they are to reach their fullest potential in life. Another goal of mine is to teach children the importance of goal setting. It is an important skill
for young children to learn as it will teach responsibility and ownership as well as improve their confidence and build self–esteem when the children
participate in setting their own learning goals. I also strongly believe in the environment as the third teacher. My goal is to encourage children's... Show

Consent And Rape Culture
Consent And Rape Culture: College Campus Nightmares
One in five college students will experience sexual assault during their college career as of 2014 (Best Colleges). Sexual assault is the umbrella term
used to describe any unwanted/forced sexual activity. It is an entirely huge problem, and has only been strengthened by the rapid development of rape
culture. Sexual assault has become a dominant problem on college campuses across the world. Many believe that this is due to the prevalence and
encouragement of rape culture among young college students. The ever–increasing number of sexual assaults on college campuses, which is extremely
alarming, can also be credited to the fact that students are not taught about the rules of consent, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After talking to former college student and TSU Consultant Employee, Calvin Harris, it seems that lessons, "...about sexual consent... [left] more
curious questions than solid answers given by students" (Harris). Basically, the majority of students that Harris came into contact with and who were
taught about sexual consent in college ended up having more questions than answers because of how unclear those lessons were. There is also a
chance that sexual assaults that take place on campus are not being reported to the heads of the college at all. Lack of reports cause the scale of the
actual problem to be down–sized, doing extreme harm to the solving of the problem. "... as a worker, the alert system has not been going off as
much. Despite this, I heard more as a student as there were rumors about sexual assaults happening on campus" (Harris). In other words, college
admins may not even know that sexual assault is a problem on campus because those sexual assaults are not being reported. Lack of reports means
lack of awareness, and it is 10 times harder to solve such a issue without being aware of it. Another disheartening dilemma when it comes to the high
rate of sexual assaults on campus is that colleges may be covering up those assaults to keep their image clean. According to Harris, "I haven't seen or

Personal Lessons Learned
From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation
that life may throw at you. During my time as a boy scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others. At
the end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to "leave this place, better than when you found it" and this lesson has translated into my own
life. I want to make the world a better (safer) place than when I found it. As I grew up, these lessons continued to play a key role in the decisions I
made and have made me into the man that I've become today.
While in middle school and into high school I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures that were different than my own. I volunteered
weekly through my church in a predominately Hispanic community that was located in the Port of Houston. The neighborhood was extremely
impoverished and many of the students were involved in gangs, or had one or more parents that were incarcerated. The more I worked with these
young men and women, the more I learned about myself and that the lesson I learned years prior of making the world better than when you found it
rang true. This community was not like the neighborhood that I lived in, and I was definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ancient Greek Fraternity In The 1930's
Like the old ancient ritual of unity in the ancient Greek polis, people join a group to belong and preformed tasks that achieve the overall goals of these
organizations. In these organizations, students celebrated a bond of unity among their fellow classmates. In the 1930's, Texas Lutheran College had a
variety of clubs and fraternities that its students belong to on campus. In these organizations, students participated in activities associated with a club.
These events and tasks improved the student's traits and talents as well as associate themselves with people who share the same interests. The members
of the fraternities and clubs installed a sense of values and culture within their members. Like the ancient Greek polis, fraternities and... Show more

A fraternity is "a group of people associated or formally organized for a common purpose, interest, or pleasure" This organization is a network of
students that help each other to serve on campus. Like other colleges, Texas Lutheran College had fraternities. During the 1930s, students at the
campus joined these organizations to help satisfy their sense of belonging and create a network of people to help them out. The most notable
fraternity in 1930's is the Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society/ fraternity for students who made good grades. Members were eligible for membership
only if "they were within the highest ten percent.", and "Elected by the faculty of the school." This organization had thrown together activities for its
members such as picnics and debates. During picnics, these members usually ate lunch and played games. The Phi Theta Kappa hosted debates over
issues corresponding to the time. They hosted a debate among its members over "world peace" as a fun activity. Other fraternities were centered on a
student's career choice. For example, the Alpha Delta Sigma, a pre–medical fraternity that focused mainly on students who were entering the medical
field and Sigma Tau Sigma, a pre–engineering society that focused on students who planned to enter the engineering field. These fraternities help
establish a network of people from the same field. These fraternities throw banquets for its members to grant awards and elect new

Zeta Psi Fraternity Analysis
Fraternities and sororities have become a sizably voluminous part of the college life over the years. Here at Bloomsburg we have fourteen fraternities
and thirteen sororities. This semester I had the gratification of joining the International fraternity Zeta Psi. Though I have been very incipient in my
life, it has become an astronomically immense part of my life here at Bloomsburg. Zeta Psi is our only international fraternity on campus, which is
what made it appeal to me over the other fraternities on campus. Fraternities are a good way for students to get involved on campus and give them
something that looks on good there resume when they go out into the world and endeavor to get a job. The Zeta Psi Fraternity was founded in 1847 at

As a previous officer of Phi Theta Kappa I have experience rejection, defamation, and alienation from part of some officer members. Although this
does not hold true from every officer, there were two team members who possessed a very negative and selfish personality. Growing up, I was
thought that a team was to fight together to achieve a common goal and pursue each other's success. Unfortunately, Alpha Mu Tau failed to follow
those ideals. People seemed to be very entitled and power oriented, behaviors that destroyed the team during my tenure as officer. I know I was
criticized and finger pointed in my absence. Moreover, I was constantly alienated and excluded from executive decisions that all officer were suppose to

Analysis Of Ethos And Pathos In Aria By Richard Rodriguez

Ethos and Pathos in "Aria"
Bilingualism is the ability to communicate in two different languages. Bilingual education is the use of two different languages in classroom
instruction. According to the Encyclopedia of Children's Health, and many other researchers, "languages are learned the easiest during a child's
youngest years. Therefore, when a child is growing up in a bilingual home or is receiving bilingual education, can easily speak both languages.
Children who grow up in a household where two languages are spoken, usually acquire both languages simultaneously. Although their ability quality
and skill of each language may be somewhat slower than a child that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having to live a life of two languages leads to an insecure identity. Rodriguez argues that learning both languages and using them rather than avoiding
one, leads to a better sense of identity and freedom. Thus, his intended audience are people who are of higher education, scholars, and educators. Both
himself, and the audience have shared values which entail: "independent thinking, self–knowledge", education, "commitment to the affairs of the
world", and scholarship and intellect. Rodriguez convinces the audience to seriously consider his claim through effective appeals to ethos and pathos.
Ethos is developed in the area of authority by personal anecdotes and in the area of credibility by shared values. Pathos is effectively evoked via
experiences he had that make the audience more likely to pause and consider his claim.
First, Rodriguez develops ethos in the area of authority, which is the author's ability to demonstrate a command over a subject matter and to offer an
informed persona. Although Rodriguez initially struggled with his adjustment into the American society and speaking English, he did not let that limit
his capabilities of being a successful in the classroom. "Rodriguez's article appeared in The American Scholar magazine at a critical time in the debate
over bilingual education models" (Robinson 236). The American Scholar magazine

Michael Porter's The Competitive Advantage Of The Inner City
The essay "The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City" by Michael Porter, addresses the crisis of inner cities, in particular, the economic distress
and how to fix it. Porter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the inner city, and how previous efforts to improve the conditions of the city
have failed. Many past efforts were guided by the desire to meet the needs of individuals but not the city as a whole, even programs that were aimed at
economic development were ineffective because they treated the inner city as an "isolated island" (317), separated from surrounding economy which
favored local small business that did not bring in outside business.
Michael Porter is a renowned economist and professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, author of 18 books and more than
125 articles with topics that range from industry competition to economic development. Porter was born in Michigan and went on to study aerospace
and mechanical engineering in Princeton from where he graduated first in his class and with high honors from both the prestigious societies Phi Beta
Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, which he was also elected into. He is known as the "c" and is recognized worldwide for his take on competition and company
strategy, many say that his work has redefined the thought process related to competition and economic development. Some of his most influential
books include Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors, Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior
Performance and Redefining Health Care: Creating Value–Based Competition On Results.
In the essay, "The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City," Porter explained the reason that numerous past efforts failed to improve the economic
conditions of the inner city were mainly due to the increasing social investment in order to see growth in economic activity. However, in order to create
real change, we have to start with the notion that inner–city businesses should not only be profitable but also capable of exporting goods and services
(317). Many would think that a business in the inner–city would not thrive because business prosperity depends on location, however, it also varies on

Analysis Of Didion 's ' On Self Respect
In Didion's emotional yet dominant essay, "On Self– Respect," found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to
oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was
published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual Americans believed they were
standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal
capacities, leading to self–actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today's society, many people find themselves unsuccessful, according to the
definition created by society,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self–respect that we all accept, one placing the opinion of others above her own. This
personal and vulnerable memory included in the essay marks a point in Didion's life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self–respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self–respect for herself by labeling herself
inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion's current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personalanecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the
negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self–respect. Didion also displays credibility by re–evaluating her
own level of self–respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, "we" and "our," to
once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion's character by displaying credibility by appearance of
standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion's use of ethos allows her to present

The For Black Greek Organizations
Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education:
The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.,
African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially. The process of integrating colleges was a process
faced with opposition because the idea that higher education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. While
equal opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy, procedure hindered black education and equal
opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students sought to find their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher
education but their communities while leading by example.
On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of
William and Mary.Building from the example of literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many
standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective admittance, faculty and community support. It was not
until one hundred and thirty years that the first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization emerged
from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations established on college

They talked about why the road was widened, and how settlement came to be. The book title is The Federal road through Georgia. In the book
there was not a lot of text about Georgia. The Authors did a good job of explaining the Native removal act, and how the creeks protested against it
(p.127). They also wrote a lot about the how the land was, waterways, and how our ancestors struggled (p.130). Overall, the authors stated their
thesis clearly, but I do not think they were clear enough in their research to write about the Federal Road. The road was initially built for the
military to use for transportation of supplies, wagons, cannons, and men on horses or foot (p.38). It also explained other ways the road was used
such as the postal services (p.22). The authors really lacked the more broad topics of the road. The used opinion over fact, which made the book,

Persuasive Essay On Racism
For years, students complained, saying University of Maryland officials needed to do more to prevent or respond to racist incidents on campus.
Then Richard Collins III was stabbed to death at a campus bus stop. The death of the young black Army lieutenant –– just three days before his
graduation –– spurred renewed tensions at UMD and prompted officials to roll out a series of new anti–hate initiatives.
"As we grieve the loss of Lt. Richard Collins III of Bowie State University, we must also act to combat hate and create a safer campus," UMD
President Wallace D. Loh said in a statement Wednesday.
But even before Collins' death, the university has been grappling with a series of racially charged incidents.
Racist flyers, slurs and a noose
Tamara Adams vividly remembers the day she saw the white nationalist flyers posted on campus: "America is a white nation," it read.
"I questioned whether or not I (as an African–American) was welcome on the University of Maryland campus," the senior said.
Those posters went up in March. The next month, someone left a noose in the kitchen of UMD's Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house.
UMD police called the incident a "hateful act" and launched a "hate/bias investigation."
Student Alexis Ojeda–Brown refused to stay silent. Earlier this month, she used a bullhorn to denounce the noose incident on an open area of campus
–– only to have students respond by saying, "Who cares?"
Many students recalled a fraternity member's racist email that was eventually

Not Another Pledge Death Essay
Greek Life, or the presence of fraternities and sororities, exists in many colleges and universities. According to Michael Grandillo in an Encyclopedia
article, "there are more than 5,500 chapters on 800 campuses throughout the United States and Canada." Although Greek Life is so common,
participation in such organizations can be a controversial topic, particularly when critics suggest that hazing can be detrimental to students' health and
college careers. For those who do not know much about Greek Life, or the process that one goes through to become affiliated with this system, there
is first a week called "rush week," where fraternities and sororities host parties in attempt to cajole students into joining their organizations. If members

Carrington was pronounced dead from water intoxication, which caused his brain and lungs to swell. Korry reports that similar hazing related deaths
have occurred at least once a year for over three decades. Evidently, not all Greek organizations have upheld a safe, educational, and life–changing
pledge process that they often promise. In addition, many students fear that pledging a fraternity or sorority will cause their grades to suffer
tremendously for a semester. In reality, this is a matter of ignorance, for most Greek organizations designate certain hours where their pledges must
be in the library to do their work or study. If pledges decide not to capitalize on these library hours, then it would be their own fault, rather than the
fault of the organization, for their poor performance. Despite these potential risks, students can benefit greatly from participating in Greek Life.
Although some students are aware of the benefits that Greek life has to offer, others join Greek organizations merely for the social status that comes
along with "wearing letters," or to add a line to their resumes. In my opinion, those who pledge a Greek organization learn many life skills that will
prove to be advantageous for the rest of their lives. Students that are timid often become more outgoing after pledging, because certain pledging tasks
involve talking to and meeting new people.

My Life, Basketball, And My Philosophy Of Basketball
My adult life, and my philosophy on life was shaped on a basketball court, and by my father. He was the coach of my AAU girl's basketball team,
and he instilled in us a philosophy of hard work. We were no normal girl's basketball team, and My father's coaching philosophy rein on a team of
twelve as we waited our turn to take the court. Anticipation greeted determination in rhythmic thuds in the background. The pace of the rhythm ever so
often broken by a screech of rubber to maple. Hard work brought us to this last scrimmage against the opposing team. As an AAU team, our practices in
Pennsylvania were purposely constructed against stronger and more developed players. As women, we trained against male players with a men's ball.
We brought agility whereas they brought strength. My father, "coach Ed", designated weekend scrimmages against the best AAU teams in our county.
The practices resulted in gaining stride as we vectored against a multitude of opponents. It was these practices that brought us to that courtside moment,
seven hundred and ninety–three miles from Pennsylvania, where we were anticipated medaling in the State Games of America. Two hours and twenty
minutes later, each of us twelve doe– eyed girls announced victory with a freshly polished tin and copper medal fitted into the palm of our hands. My
father's philosophy was simple, "In order to become successful, we must align ourselves with success". His philosophy and this experience coached me

Designing The Cd Package Design
CD Package Design
I was inspired by watercolor portraits and CD packaging designs from other students. I decided to incorporate this idea into the CD package design.
Throughout the CD Package, I added a faded textured in the background of the design. Within the background on the back panel, I added a
transparent photograph of a cricket to keep consistent with the title of the album name. Then, added paint splatters and rendered them to make the
model as a recognizable subject for the cover. In addition, I added the song titles and an excerpt inside the front sleeve of the cover. Furthermore, I
used three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I added a barcode, a record label logo, and
fictitious information to make the entire CD package look realistic.
Typography Calendars
For the month of May, I created a calendar page using Franklin Gothic typeface and added different shades of green and a beige color for the
background in the calendar. I expanded the word "May" and composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the
history of Franklin Gothic and added "Franklin Gothic" at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added "2015" on top of the bottom base to complete
the calendar.
For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the colorred throughout the whole calendar. Instead of using
a standard calendar outline, I decided to add the days,

Sexual Violence In Ancient Greek Society
Introduction
Every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. Moving closer to home, on our college campuses, one–third of women will be
victims of sexual violence before they graduate from a college or university in the United States. Within our seven person student group at Boston
University, three of our members are at a high risk of being victims of sexual violence before earning our degrees. The Center of Disease Control and
Prevention defines sexual violence as, "Any sexual activity that is not obtained or given freely." The National Sexual Violence Association explains the
different types of sexual violence as rape and sexual assault, child sexual assault and incest, intimate partner sexual assault, ... Show more content on

Based on the current population, this figure adds up to about one billion women. Statistics on the history of sexual assault are unreliable, as much of the
data collected in countries are merely estimates or non–existent. Today, however, the amount of data being collected worldwide on Sexual Violence has
increased (Figure 1). UN–HABITAT for example, has taken surveys on violence, mostly in Africa, to try to help with policy creation. UN Women,
an organization within the United Nations devoted to gender equality and the empowerment of women, states that "at least 119 countries have
passed laws on domestic violence, 125 have laws on sexual harassment and 52 have laws on marital rape" (Facts and Figures: Ending Violence
against Women). Even with the existence of these laws, not all countries are compliant with the international standards on sexual violence. Much
of this has to do with traditions such as early marriage or genital mutilation. Sexual assault today is often used as a tactic of war, as it has been in
the past. An example of this is shown in Bosnia where it is believed that more than 20,000 Muslim girls have been raped there as a form of "ethnic
cleansing" since 1992 (Sexual Violence as a Weapon of War ). After a UN Declaration in 1993, thousands of organizations have been created to help
end sexual violence worldwide. In 2008, UN Secretary–General Ban Ki–moon launched his

Fraternities and Why They are Misunderstood Essay
Fraternities and Why They are Misunderstood
Fraternities have been a major part of student life at universities all over the world since the beginning of the 20th century. For many students they have
offered an improvement in social life, more friends, opportunities for athletics, and a great sense of brotherhood. Unfortunately, since their beginning
fraternities have been questioned about their activities. Many people today think that they subject their members to harmful acts better known as "hazing
." Massachusetts General law defines hazing as:
[A]ny conduct or method of initiation into any student organization, whether on public or private property, which willfully or recklesslyendangers the
physical or mental health of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fraternity issues like this one are very ugly and truly bring out the worst in everyone. I am completely shocked that a lawyer would even take a case
such as this one where a fraternity member is obviously guilty. In another incident, university police have arrested three men on the charge of battery.
Two of the men alleged that they were hit on the buttocks 30 times with a 2–by–4, and another student said he was hit approximately 10 times. The
incident has raised numerous questions about the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, according to campus officials. The event became public knowledge when
Edward Pratt, the dean of students spoke on the topic. Pratt summed the course of events as "This incident is particularly bad because it is part of a
secret organization"(Anderson). Pratt describes the situation as "Underground organizations feel more immune to regular laws and regulations and any
kind of policing....They feel they can violate peoples rights"(Anderson). Pratt says "many of the undergraduate pledges initially would not speak about
any of the incidences, because they were maintaining their code of secrecy"(Anderson). This code of honor is one of the main obstacles that
investigators have to overcome when trying to find the truth. What the school and the investigators have to understand is that no fraternity member
wants to be responsible for the possible end of their organization. This act of treason

Can Evolution Ever Explain Why Men Rape? Essay
Can evolution ever explain why men rape? Why is it considered a societal norm for men to rape women? Rape can be an act of any sexual activity
that is carried out using force or threat of injury against the will of a female. It mostly occurs when the victim is underage, incapable of valid consent
(i.e. drunk, drugged), or when there is a known perpetrator (i.e. family member, friend). It is unfortunate that some women get raped even when having
no affiliations with the perpetrator. Despite a decrease in the reportedrape cases, the statistic is misleading because most victims are not reporting the
incidence. Through research, one may suggest that evolution may explain why men rape. There has been an increase in social peer pressure, a high
demand in culture expectations, and a rise in individual problems (i.e. revenge, alcoholism). Thus, the incidence of rape has increased while most
victims do not report it. The number of reported rapes and sexual assaults has decreased in the United States. According to the National Crime
Victimization Survey, the population–adjusted rate of rape has dropped 55% from 1993, when the survey was started, to 2013 (Drum, 2014). It is
difficult to know for sure if this number is accurate because many cases of sexual assault and rape are not reported to authorities. The National Sexual
Violence Resource Center estimates that roughly 63% of sexual assaults are not reported to police (2015). Still at least 25% of American women have

Rio Grande Valley Job Analysis
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
It is important to choose a university/college because choosing the right one can help me get the job I want. It would prepare me for the skill and
knowledge for the job. The first step I would use to picking a college is going over the ones available as said by Katy Hopkins, "As you weigh several
appealing options, think back to why you applied to each..." (1). You also would need to check if you like theuniversity with "...an extended list of pros

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has a couple of locations in the Valley. There are campuses in Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen,
McAllen, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. There is about 29,000 students enrolled in UTRGV as of 2015. The diversity is pretty small. Most
of the ethnicity is Hispanic at almost 90%. It is then followed by White at almost 4%, then Asian at 3.4% and finally African American. This is based
on the UTRGV accountability report on their website. The cost of attending the University is about about 68,000–72,00 for four years. The student to

Argumentative Speech About Fraternities
What comes into your mind when you hear the word "fraternity"? If you will be given the chance to join such would you choose to pledge? or not not
to pledge? Why yes and why not? Apparently, everyone have their own perspective when it comes to fraternities. However, originally, fraternities or
fraternal organizations were meant to be an organized society of men associated together in an environment of companionship and brotherhood. They
must be dedicated to the intellectual, physical, moral, religious, and social development of its members. There are many attributes that fraternities may
or may not have, depending on their structure and purpose. Fraternities can have differing degrees of secrecy, some form of initiation or ceremony
marking admission, formal codes of behavior, disciplinary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But sometimes, the real essence of having fraternities is being repudiated because of some immoral acts done within the organization. In the
Philippines, the existence of fraternities are not prohibited. In fact, some are existing as legal organizations carrying the purpose of being an asset
within the community. But in a setting like this in our country where powerful people abuses those who are not in position to make their stands, where
the real meaning of brotherhood is disregarded, I believe that this is not an appropriate country to dwell with fraternities. The government should
abolish fraternities for they take away the significance of education and morality in the Philippines. It is argued that the establishments of fraternities
bring a very good sense of brotherhood and companionship that leads to a well organized community. Fraternities started existing wayback because of
the strong desire of people in the Middles Ages to show companionship. Undeniably, they are really intended for good purposes and until now the
arguments between the pros and cons of such organizations exist. First are for those

"Lyrics from the Old English"; Raffel got his translation of "Nibelungenlied" published through Yale University Press. Raffel not only translated other

Burton Raffel had to really understand these stories and their meanings behind them to translate them into what the authors had originally wrote and

language that we in modern society are not accustomed to. Raffel was extremely intelligent and had the skills and capabilities that not everyone has,
he had background knowledge of those periods and can interpret many languages. Those traits and skills are what have given us an accurate
translation of the story without completely butchering the author's art and intentions. He has this thirst for education that has driven him to learn the
details and basically show us points of views that we would not have originally see. I am a fan of his work because during my research I found many
critics who had agreed that Raffel did not destroy or change the work of the author which is hard to do especially because he could not use his personal
feelings while attempting to understand it. He had to step in their shoes and write what he best thought they would have written in our

Summary: Rape Is Not A Joke
In the modern, advanced, yet twisted world we live in today, women have often been objectified and the topics of rape and sexual assault have
become jokes. From movies to music videos and songs, the media is often guilty of this, but they aren't the only ones. What may seem simple and
harmless such as a banner with a couple of words meant as a joke, may lead to a much more serious series of events such as sexual assault, according
to Trey Gregory, as he talks about the actions of a fraternity in his article, "Rape is Not a Joke". Whether it be the media or a fraternity at Texas Tech,
the mentality of certain people that women may be objectified and treated as animals that must be domesticated is wrong in all ways and may not be
justified as a mere joke, as it could lead to dire consequences whether intentional or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that it was a harmless joke, Gregory believes that "their actions crossed the line" and they "did not only degrade women [but] they also promoted

Argumentive Essay: Fraternities and Sorrorities
Against Fraternities/Sororities
As portrayed in the 1978 hit movie Animal House, college fraternities/sororities are a hotbed of excessive drinking, casual sex, vandalism, and generally
licentious behavior. But, in real life, unlike the movie, the results of such conduct are hardly laughable. Even though the nationwide membership in both
fraternities and sororities are at an all time high of 350,000 members, fraternities and sororities are still receiving harsh criticism from university
leaders and civic authorities. In the face of several recent incidents, fraternity and sorority behaviors can no longer be viewed as harmless school boy

Although not as dangerous as hazing, the problem of racism among fraternities and sororities are also a growing problem. At the University of Southern
California, in
Thomas 4
2003, members of a rival fraternity spray painted anti–Semitic slogans on the sidewalk in front of a Jewish fraternity house. In another disgraceful
episode, at Oklahoma State University, Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers were reprimanded after holding a "plantation party," during which several
members masqueraded as black slaves.(Inside Greek U: Fraternities, Sororities and the Pursuit of Pleasure, Power and Prestige 1–125). Kappa Alpha
chapters, traditionally strong in the Southeast, hold "Old South" parties annually. At these parties, females dress as southern belles while the K. A.s
don Confederate Army uniforms in a satirical reenactment of the days when slavery prevailed. A Fiji Island party at the University of Wisconsin was

at Louisiana's Tulane University blackened their faces during the 30 annual "Debut

Early Childhood Education Goals

  • 1. Early Childhood Education Statement Write a statement of your goals and of your commitment to a career in education. My goal in early childhood education is to provide children with a strong educational foundation through developmentally appropriate practices. All children are on different developmental levels and should be met where they are to reach their fullest potential in life. Another goal of mine is to teach children the importance of goal setting. It is an important skill for young children to learn as it will teach responsibility and ownership as well as improve their confidence and build self–esteem when the children participate in setting their own learning goals. I also strongly believe in the environment as the third teacher. My goal is to encourage children's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I completed my first practicum during my second semester at Appalachian at a five–star child care center in Ashe County. I completed my second practicum at Blowing Rock Elementary school in the pre–k classroom. I also have teaching experience in the nursery and vacation bible school at my home church. • 2. Consent And Rape Culture Consent And Rape Culture: College Campus Nightmares One in five college students will experience sexual assault during their college career as of 2014 (Best Colleges). Sexual assault is the umbrella term used to describe any unwanted/forced sexual activity. It is an entirely huge problem, and has only been strengthened by the rapid development of rape culture. Sexual assault has become a dominant problem on college campuses across the world. Many believe that this is due to the prevalence and encouragement of rape culture among young college students. The ever–increasing number of sexual assaults on college campuses, which is extremely alarming, can also be credited to the fact that students are not taught about the rules of consent, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After talking to former college student and TSU Consultant Employee, Calvin Harris, it seems that lessons, "...about sexual consent... [left] more curious questions than solid answers given by students" (Harris). Basically, the majority of students that Harris came into contact with and who were taught about sexual consent in college ended up having more questions than answers because of how unclear those lessons were. There is also a chance that sexual assaults that take place on campus are not being reported to the heads of the college at all. Lack of reports cause the scale of the actual problem to be down–sized, doing extreme harm to the solving of the problem. "... as a worker, the alert system has not been going off as much. Despite this, I heard more as a student as there were rumors about sexual assaults happening on campus" (Harris). In other words, college admins may not even know that sexual assault is a problem on campus because those sexual assaults are not being reported. Lack of reports means lack of awareness, and it is 10 times harder to solve such a issue without being aware of it. Another disheartening dilemma when it comes to the high rate of sexual assaults on campus is that colleges may be covering up those assaults to keep their image clean. According to Harris, "I haven't seen or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Lessons Learned From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation that life may throw at you. During my time as a boy scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others. At the end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to "leave this place, better than when you found it" and this lesson has translated into my own life. I want to make the world a better (safer) place than when I found it. As I grew up, these lessons continued to play a key role in the decisions I made and have made me into the man that I've become today. While in middle school and into high school I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures that were different than my own. I volunteered weekly through my church in a predominately Hispanic community that was located in the Port of Houston. The neighborhood was extremely impoverished and many of the students were involved in gangs, or had one or more parents that were incarcerated. The more I worked with these young men and women, the more I learned about myself and that the lesson I learned years prior of making the world better than when you found it rang true. This community was not like the neighborhood that I lived in, and I was definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Ancient Greek Fraternity In The 1930's Like the old ancient ritual of unity in the ancient Greek polis, people join a group to belong and preformed tasks that achieve the overall goals of these organizations. In these organizations, students celebrated a bond of unity among their fellow classmates. In the 1930's, Texas Lutheran College had a variety of clubs and fraternities that its students belong to on campus. In these organizations, students participated in activities associated with a club. These events and tasks improved the student's traits and talents as well as associate themselves with people who share the same interests. The members of the fraternities and clubs installed a sense of values and culture within their members. Like the ancient Greek polis, fraternities and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A fraternity is "a group of people associated or formally organized for a common purpose, interest, or pleasure" This organization is a network of students that help each other to serve on campus. Like other colleges, Texas Lutheran College had fraternities. During the 1930s, students at the campus joined these organizations to help satisfy their sense of belonging and create a network of people to help them out. The most notable fraternity in 1930's is the Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society/ fraternity for students who made good grades. Members were eligible for membership only if "they were within the highest ten percent.", and "Elected by the faculty of the school." This organization had thrown together activities for its members such as picnics and debates. During picnics, these members usually ate lunch and played games. The Phi Theta Kappa hosted debates over issues corresponding to the time. They hosted a debate among its members over "world peace" as a fun activity. Other fraternities were centered on a student's career choice. For example, the Alpha Delta Sigma, a pre–medical fraternity that focused mainly on students who were entering the medical field and Sigma Tau Sigma, a pre–engineering society that focused on students who planned to enter the engineering field. Though I have been very incipient in my life, it has become an astronomically immense part of my life here at Bloomsburg. Zeta Psi is our only international fraternity on campus, which is what made it appeal to me over the other fraternities on campus. Analysis Of Ethos And Pathos In Aria By Richard Rodriguez Sammie MacAffer Christine Robinson Coon ENGL 1310.050 23 October 2017 Ethos and Pathos in "Aria" Bilingualism is the ability to communicate in two different languages. Bilingual education is the use of two different languages in classroom instruction. According to the Encyclopedia of Children's Health, and many other researchers, "languages are learned the easiest during a child's youngest years. Therefore, when a child is growing up in a bilingual home or is receiving bilingual education, can easily speak both languages. Children who grow up in a household where two languages are spoken, usually acquire both languages simultaneously. Having to live a life of two languages leads to an insecure identity. Rodriguez argues that learning both languages and using them rather than avoiding one, leads to a better sense of identity and freedom. Thus, his intended audience are people who are of higher education, scholars, and educators. Both himself, and the audience have shared values which entail: "independent thinking, self–knowledge", education, "commitment to the affairs of the world", and scholarship and intellect. Rodriguez convinces the audience to seriously consider his claim through effective appeals to ethos and pathos. Ethos is developed in the area of authority by personal anecdotes and in the area of credibility by shared values. Pathos is effectively evoked via experiences he had that make the audience more likely to pause and consider his claim. First, Rodriguez develops ethos in the area of authority, which is the author's ability to demonstrate a command over a subject matter and to offer an informed persona. Although Rodriguez initially struggled with his adjustment into the American society and speaking English, he did not let that limit his capabilities of being a successful in the classroom. "Rodriguez's article appeared in The American Scholar magazine at a critical time in the debate over bilingual education models" (Robinson 236). The American Scholar magazine ... • 13. Michael Porter's The Competitive Advantage Of The Inner City The essay "The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City" by Michael Porter, addresses the crisis of inner cities, in particular, the economic distress and how to fix it. Porter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the inner city, and how previous efforts to improve the conditions of the city have failed. Many past efforts were guided by the desire to meet the needs of individuals but not the city as a whole, even programs that were aimed at economic development were ineffective because they treated the inner city as an "isolated island" (317), separated from surrounding economy which favored local small business that did not bring in outside business. Michael Porter is a renowned economist and professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, author of 18 books and more than 125 articles with topics that range from industry competition to economic development. Porter was born in Michigan and went on to study aerospace and mechanical engineering in Princeton from where he graduated first in his class and with high honors from both the prestigious societies Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, which he was also elected into. He is known as the "c" and is recognized worldwide for his take on competition and company strategy, many say that his work has redefined the thought process related to competition and economic development. Some of his most influential books include Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors, Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior Performance and Redefining Health Care: Creating Value–Based Competition On Results. In the essay, "The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City," Porter explained the reason that numerous past efforts failed to improve the economic conditions of the inner city were mainly due to the increasing social investment in order to see growth in economic activity. However, in order to create real change, we have to start with the notion that inner–city businesses should not only be profitable but also capable of exporting goods and services (317). Many would think that a business in the inner–city would not thrive because business prosperity depends on location, however, it also varies on the way a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of Didion 's ' On Self Respect In Didion's emotional yet dominant essay, "On Self– Respect," found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self–actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today's society, many people find themselves unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self–respect that we all accept, one placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the essay marks a point in Didion's life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle with acceptance of self–respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self–respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion's current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personalanecdote shows failure, allowing Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self–respect. Didion also displays credibility by re–evaluating her own level of self–respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, "we" and "our," to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion's character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. The For Black Greek Organizations Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education: The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially. The process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. While equal opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy, procedure hindered black education and equal opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students sought to find their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher education but their communities while leading by example. On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective admittance, faculty and community support. It was not until one hundred and thirty years that the first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization emerged from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations established on college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book there was not a lot of text about Georgia. The Authors did a good job of explaining the Native removal act, and how the creeks protested against it (p.127). They also wrote a lot about the how the land was, waterways, and how our ancestors struggled (p.130). Overall, the authors stated their thesis clearly, but I do not think they were clear enough in their research to write about the Federal Road. The road was initially built for the military to use for transportation of supplies, wagons, cannons, and men on horses or foot (p.38). It also explained other ways the road was used such as the postal services (p.22). The authors really lacked the more broad topics of the road. The used opinion over fact, which made the book, almost seem as if it was made up or not true. There research on the thesis was very poor due to lack of facts. The book itself starts off very slow with little to no facts. The main majority of the important facts start in chapter 3, and 7. This book was a good way to look at the settling of the region (p.108, 111,112). There writing points out different perspectives of the Old federal road that people do not normally think about. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Racism For years, students complained, saying University of Maryland officials needed to do more to prevent or respond to racist incidents on campus. Then Richard Collins III was stabbed to death at a campus bus stop. The death of the young black Army lieutenant –– just three days before his graduation –– spurred renewed tensions at UMD and prompted officials to roll out a series of new anti–hate initiatives. "As we grieve the loss of Lt. Richard Collins III of Bowie State University, we must also act to combat hate and create a safer campus," UMD President Wallace D. Loh said in a statement Wednesday. But even before Collins' death, the university has been grappling with a series of racially charged incidents. Racist flyers, slurs and a noose Tamara Adams vividly remembers the day she saw the white nationalist flyers posted on campus: "America is a white nation," it read. "I questioned whether or not I (as an African–American) was welcome on the University of Maryland campus," the senior said. Those posters went up in March. The next month, someone left a noose in the kitchen of UMD's Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house. UMD police called the incident a "hateful act" and launched a "hate/bias investigation." Student Alexis Ojeda–Brown refused to stay silent. Earlier this month, she used a bullhorn to denounce the noose incident on an open area of campus –– only to have students respond by saying, "Who cares?" • 18. Not Another Pledge Death Essay Greek Life, or the presence of fraternities and sororities, exists in many colleges and universities. According to Michael Grandillo in an Encyclopedia article, "there are more than 5,500 chapters on 800 campuses throughout the United States and Canada." Although Greek Life is so common, participation in such organizations can be a controversial topic, particularly when critics suggest that hazing can be detrimental to students' health and college careers. For those who do not know much about Greek Life, or the process that one goes through to become affiliated with this system, there is first a week called "rush week," where fraternities and sororities host parties in attempt to cajole students into joining their organizations. If members ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carrington was pronounced dead from water intoxication, which caused his brain and lungs to swell. Korry reports that similar hazing related deaths have occurred at least once a year for over three decades. Evidently, not all Greek organizations have upheld a safe, educational, and life–changing pledge process that they often promise. In addition, many students fear that pledging a fraternity or sorority will cause their grades to suffer tremendously for a semester. In reality, this is a matter of ignorance, for most Greek organizations designate certain hours where their pledges must be in the library to do their work or study. If pledges decide not to capitalize on these library hours, then it would be their own fault, rather than the fault of the organization, for their poor performance. Despite these potential risks, students can benefit greatly from participating in Greek Life. Although some students are aware of the benefits that Greek life has to offer, others join Greek organizations merely for the social status that comes along with "wearing letters," or to add a line to their resumes. In my opinion, those who pledge a Greek organization learn many life skills that will prove to be advantageous for the rest of their lives. Students that are timid often become more outgoing after pledging, because certain pledging tasks involve talking to and meeting new people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was the coach of my AAU girl's basketball team, and he instilled in us a philosophy of hard work. We were no normal girl's basketball team, and My father's coaching philosophy rein on a team of twelve as we waited our turn to take the court. Anticipation greeted determination in rhythmic thuds in the background. The pace of the rhythm ever so often broken by a screech of rubber to maple. Hard work brought us to this last scrimmage against the opposing team. As an AAU team, our practices in Pennsylvania were purposely constructed against stronger and more developed players. As women, we trained against male players with a men's ball. We brought agility whereas they brought strength. My father, "coach Ed", designated weekend scrimmages against the best AAU teams in our county. The practices resulted in gaining stride as we vectored against a multitude of opponents. It was these practices that brought us to that courtside moment, seven hundred and ninety–three miles from Pennsylvania, where we were anticipated medaling in the State Games of America. Two hours and twenty minutes later, each of us twelve doe– eyed girls announced victory with a freshly polished tin and copper medal fitted into the palm of our hands. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the current population, this figure adds up to about one billion women. Statistics on the history of sexual assault are unreliable, as much of the data collected in countries are merely estimates or non–existent. Today, however, the amount of data being collected worldwide on Sexual Violence has increased (Figure 1). UN–HABITAT for example, has taken surveys on violence, mostly in Africa, to try to help with policy creation. UN Women, an organization within the United Nations devoted to gender equality and the empowerment of women, states that "at least 119 countries have passed laws on domestic violence, 125 have laws on sexual harassment and 52 have laws on marital rape" (Facts and Figures: Ending Violence against Women). Even with the existence of these laws, not all countries are compliant with the international standards on sexual violence. Much of this has to do with traditions such as early marriage or genital mutilation. Sexual assault today is often used as a tactic of war, as it has been in the past. An example of this is shown in Bosnia where it is believed that more than 20,000 Muslim girls have been raped there as a form of "ethnic cleansing" since 1992 (Sexual Violence as a Weapon of War ). After a UN Declaration in 1993, thousands of organizations have been created to help end sexual violence worldwide. In 2008, UN Secretary–General Ban Ki–moon launched his ... • 31. Can Evolution Ever Explain Why Men Rape? Essay Can evolution ever explain why men rape? Why is it considered a societal norm for men to rape women? Rape can be an act of any sexual activity that is carried out using force or threat of injury against the will of a female. It mostly occurs when the victim is underage, incapable of valid consent (i.e. drunk, drugged), or when there is a known perpetrator (i.e. family member, friend). It is unfortunate that some women get raped even when having no affiliations with the perpetrator. Despite a decrease in the reportedrape cases, the statistic is misleading because most victims are not reporting the incidence. Through research, one may suggest that evolution may explain why men rape. There has been an increase in social peer pressure, a high demand in culture expectations, and a rise in individual problems (i.e. revenge, alcoholism). Thus, the incidence of rape has increased while most victims do not report it. The number of reported rapes and sexual assaults has decreased in the United States. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, the population–adjusted rate of rape has dropped 55% from 1993, when the survey was started, to 2013 (Drum, 2014). It is difficult to know for sure if this number is accurate because many cases of sexual assault and rape are not reported to authorities. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center estimates that roughly 63% of sexual assaults are not reported to police (2015). Still at least 25% of American women have ... From movies to music videos and songs, the media is often guilty of this, but they aren't the only ones. What may seem simple and harmless such as a banner with a couple of words meant as a joke, may lead to a much more serious series of events such as sexual assault, according to Trey Gregory, as he talks about the actions of a fraternity in his article, "Rape is Not a Joke".
