Kami's Argumentative Essay
Kami works hard to make the perfect illustration, as she pushes her umber hair back. She hesitantly talks to strangers, but confidently acts weird
and peculiar to her friends. She somehow brings her crazy to her friends, and makes the whole time with her interesting. Eileen buries her face in
her book as she silently adjusts her turquoise glasses. She often argues with Kami, but they usually forgets about it or just forgives each other. She,
much like Kami, is able to bring some enjoyment to average conversations, and it is always fun to be with her along with Kami. Chrystal Hamasaki,
or also can be called Ami, is a very kind person. Her name symbolizes the ocean and love, when written in kanji. Her fingers are able to move gracefully

Janie Short Stories
Janie was only six when she watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time, instantly she was hooked, she was blown away from movie being both
ebony and ivory and in color, she was amazed at the vibrant colors of the emerald kingdom (I mean come on, there was a pink horse), and those
shoes, oh those shoes, they were the very best part. Two days later Janie and her mom were walking down downtown to get groceries as they
passed a small boutique Janie glanced in and saw the most beautiful elegant pair of ruby slippers she had ever seen it was just like the ruby slippers
from the movie, it had sparkles and glitter and shine (oh my). Janie begged her mother for a pair and her mom tried say no but seeing the gleam and
excitement in her little girl's eyes made it impossible. Janie was thrilled the beautiful ruby slippers and the new shoe smell, the rubber sole the fabric
lining, filling her nose. The shoes were perfect for Janie, they were perfectly shaped for her feet and they were tight enough that they would not fall off
but loose enough that they did not hurt. The problem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tokugawa Ieyasu's Collapse
Her story begins far beyond where her memories themselves extend, to a time when the word Japan did not exist, to a time when the castles of Nihon
were still bustling with people living their luxurious life while the people outside tolled away upon the rice fields – when Tokugawa Ieyasu brandished
his sword to conquer and finally unify the islands together under one fist. The Edo Period, a time that should be most prosperous for everyone, a time
when happiness should come unfounded to even the misers.
But for your maker, it was a time when she was the loneliest. A minor water goddess that lived on the periphery of humanity– visitors still venture
upon the long steps to the entrance of her shrine but she can feel the change which thrums away with its new movement in life's symphony. It was the
world that she cannot enter, she should not enter in case she collapses the balances of life. And so she keeps her distance, letting the solitude grow
along with the invisible but lucid rift.
The creation of the doll child had been a simple pastime at first, as an immortal with nothing better to do, her maker simply toiled away with the lush
ochre dust of the Earth beneath her ivory feet, with the clarion water from the ever bubbling stream – slender fingers molding, crafting, grasping upon

Symbolism And Tone In The Century Quilt By Marilyn Nelson...
In the poem "The Century Quilt" by Marilyn Nelson Waniek the speaker uses symbolism and tone to convey a deeper meaning behind the quilt.
The speaker's symbolism displays the diversity in the speaker's family. The speaker's tone conveys pride in their family. Each square of the quilt
represents a different section of the speaker's family, and past occurrences. The quilt that the speaker discovers contains earth tone squares. Each
of these colors symbolizes a different family member. A single square that is "the yellowbrown of Mama's cheeks". The fact that there is a single
square of this color shows that the speaker's mother is unparalleled. The speaker's father is described as having "burnt umber pride". The father was
a war veteran as revealed in the first stanza when the speaker talks about the "army green" blanket that was given to the speaker's father by "Supply".
The reason that the father's color is brown is because he passed away. The brown symbolizes his burial plot. When the speaker talks about having a
brown father and yellow mother this also tells of their skin tones. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When mentioning their "Meema['s]" dream of childhood the speaker describes her and her sisters as "beautiful". Describing their family as
"beautiful" is a small way to show how proud the speaker is of their family because if the speaker didn't care, she wouldn't compliment them. Upon
seeing the grandmother's quilt the speaker wishes to "inherit that blanket". The quilt being a symbol of generations past it is a compliment to the
family to want it forever and have it be the blanket that the speaker wants to "die under". The speaker wants to remember all of their family's history,
and continue their family line. The speaker has hopes of meeting a "yet unconceived" son. Continuing the family line displays honor for the speaker's
remaining family members. The speaker wants their child to have the same childhood memories as they

Bowel Constipation Essay
Constipation Treatment: Constipation is the term used to describe irregular bowel actions, hard motions or difficulty in passing faces. It is twice
as common in women as it is in men and increases with age. A recent study revealed that 10% of adults believed they had suffered from
constipation during the previous fortnight. Those results may have stemmed from the widespread belief that the bowels should be open daily and
that failure to do so will cause any umber of complaints ranging from headaches to depression. In fact, one medical study has shown that the
average person may pass faeces as little as twice a week or as often as three times every day. Children are often taken to a GP by a parent who id

Occasionally surgery may be the only hope of curing this condition. If your child is usually fairly easy. First, offer them extra fluids, preferably as
fruit juice. This is especially important in hot weather. If this fails then the extra sugar in one or two of their feeds may do the trick. If your child is
still struggling to pass a hard motion you should then consult your GP, who may pass a well vaselined finger into e rectum. This often has spectacular
results. Dietary Constipation The commonest cause of constipation in young adults is dietary, often at a time when they are dieting to excess and not
receiving enough fibre. Irritable bowel syndrome may cause constipation but this usually alternates the diarrhea is accompanied by abdominal pain and
bloating. Treatment consists of a high fibre diet an anti–spasmodics such as peppermint oil. Irritable bowel syndrome is much more common in women
and seems be stress related. If you are elderly and have been constipated or two weeks more, especially if it is associated with eight losses or bleeding,

The OLD Manas Short Story
THE OLD MANAs a kid I had the experience a recurring of confrontation with a mysterious old man. Whether it was a night or day dream, I don't
recall, but is was real to the child I was, however, it could have been my youthful imagination. He was elderly, as stated, with white patches of hair
on either side of his head, with a shiny island of raw umber betwixt the two. Walking slow, in a kind of shuffle, he nevertheless seemed aware of his
steps, and the things around him, always looking straight ahead, and directly at me when on a occasion I encountered him in the neighborhood. In the

The old gentleman would appear at the most unexpected times, yet months would go by, and I could have completely forgotten him and grown
up never to see him again except from the cove of childhood memories we for some reason never forget. Nevertheless, there he was; coming out of
a back alley as I turned a corner; or crossing a street as I approached from the other side. Once old timer even came into the grassless yard of our
shotgun double as I was sitting on the rotten wooden steps waiting for my brother and sisters to return from school, I wasn't old enough yet to
attend. This was my station, to sit there and keep an eye on my stroke burden grandfather as he rocked and mumbled his thoughts to no one
present. He stepped half way up the walk, and stood there, looking at me and I back at him more out of curiosity then fear. Eventually he reached
out his hand as if to make a request or ask a question of me, then as if remembering, lowered his head and turned and walked away. One day I was

Personal Narrative: Life After Death By Elizabeth Umber
Life After Death On April 22nd of 2009, my wife, my best friend, my soulmate, the love of my life, Elizabeth Umber, was pronounced deceased. It
was an extremely shocking death. I was at my job, working through the motions of any other day when I received the phone call that would change
my life forever. Elizabeth had been in a car accident and was in the hospital in critical condition. Immediately, I went to pick up my two daughters,
Ellie and Sage, from their elementary school and then rushed to the hospital. Four hours later, at 6:42 p.m., Elizabeth was gone. Since that tragic day,
I have been living my life as a widower. People tend to conclude that because I am a man and not a woman, living the widower lifestyle would be

I enjoy going to the gym with my best friend, Jim (Question 7). Jim and I actually met in a support group for middle aged men who have lost their
spouse. We had an almost immediate understanding and mutual respect for each other. He is different from any other person in my support group
because he doesn't assume similarities between the two of us. For example, Jim lost his wife two years ago and has already expressed feelings of
wanting to remarry. He does this without assuming that I want the same thing for myself, even though Elizabeth's passing was over six years ago.
Another reason I enjoy Jim's company is because of the way he treats me. Most people but me in this box and ultimately being a "widower" is my
brand. They look at me like a lost puppy and speak to me in soft tones, whether it's a stranger who has just discovered my loss, or someone who has
known me even before I met Elizabeth. People often stereotype widowers, assuming they victimize themselves (Monama). I know I am not the
victim, Elizabeth was the victim. Often they treat me as if I am in a wheelchair and cannot do things for myself. My mom and sister call me almost
every day asking if I need them to do simple tasks like going to the grocery store or taking the girls to school (Question

Compare And Contrast Chameleons And Green Iguana
With a slimy tongue as long as its body, or a third eye roaming the view ahead, chameleons and iguanas have remarkable, yet exotic features, and share
similar primeval characteristics that date back to their origins. The vibrant Veiled Chameleon is well known for its startling ability to change colors in
less than twenty seconds, while the Green Iguana is the largest lizard in America. Veiled Chameleons dwell in locations such as Europe, Africa, and
Asia, whereas Green Iguanas are scattered around Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. Differences in their physical features and habitat affect
their lifestyles, hunting methods, and food . Despite the similarities Veiled Chameleons and Green Iguanas share, their physical traits, diet, and habitats
diverge.

Green Iguanas can have a length of four to six feet, whereas the Veiled Chameleon has a petite frame of three to eight inches. The Green Iguana has a

hunting. Although both specimens share the outstanding quality of their eyesight, Chameleons have a bonus of ultraviolet vision. The Green Iguana's
third eye is uncommon amongst many other species, making it a one–of–a–kind trait, and extremely useful for monitoring its surroundings.
Furthermore, the Veiled Chameleon is capable of altering colors to not only communicate with other chameleons, but to also blend into its
surroundings. However, a Green Iguana is able to stay hidden due to its natural olive color and aptitude for swimming. In addition to their physical
differences, their diets branch out as

Vyses At Cheyne Row: Article Analysis
Nineteen Twenty Six On a March day in 1926, a Daily Sketch newspaper reporter called on the Vyses at Cheyne Row. He wanted to interview Vyse
for an article of general interest. The excellence of the Vyses' high–fired stoneware, decorated with wood–ash glazes were subject to popular press
examination in an article titled, The Secret the Chinese Kept.28 The article is of interest to students of ceramic history, in that it validates the Vyses'
commitment to stoneware pottery. Furthermore, it verifies the passionate research work carried out by the Vyses in tandem with their figure making
output. The interview it appears, was copied down by the reporter verbatim, the following paragraphs are selection from the published article. Mr

The article confirms that when Nell Vyse began her research, she had no prior information about glaze making. Her knowledge was culled mainly from
German text books on pottery making. To formulate a particular stoneware glaze, she prepared twenty to thirty different blends of the necessary
constituents to determine that the glaze and the clay body would intimately fuse together in the kiln. It is unbelievably difficult to achieve the perfect
glaze. The ingredients are so human; they have likes and dislikes; feuds and infinities; some run to meet each other, others seem deliberately to take the
wrong turning to avoid contact with the rest! I lament the fact that lovely things were no longer made nowadays. The big potteries are now machines,
and they aren't taking apprentices anymore. I was the last apprentice modeller at Doulton's Burslem. I had no choice; my father, grandfather, and
great–grandfather had all been potters. I began with my 3s [shillings] in my early teens, and at 21 emerged a full–fledged potter, having been through
every phase of the craft, and achieved a salary of 17s [shillings] a week. I have been asked why I am trying to copy the Chinese. It is not that I wish to
'copy'– though there is nothing higher to copy than the Chinese! I want to achieve their mastery of material. For one success," smiled the

The Century Guilt Essay
Heirlooms are essential parts of a family's heritage and kinship. Family heirlooms can be jewelry, a decoration, or possibly even a quilt. "The
Century Quilt" has a theme of the origins of heirlooms by using symbolism of the squares on a quilt and by using imagery to express a memory of a
character. The theme of "The Century Quilt" is one of separation from family either by the family or by voluntarily excluding oneself from the family.
"...the blanket found my sister's bed– the last time I visited her." implies the speaker has not seen their sister since finding out she had the family
heirloom. In line nine, the poem states "I remembered how I'd planned to inherit that blanket,...", further reinforcing the idea that the speaker wanted

father's burnt umber pride, my mother's ochre gentleness.". Colors elsewhere in the poem sometimes symbolize race, and at other times the colors are
nothing but descriptions of an item. "...her yellow sisters...white family...", both of those phrases refer to the race and or ethnicity of a person, and
represent the way that race can sometimes separate humans. "...pianola...beautiful sisters" refers to the wealth of the white family, and "beautiful" in
this context symbolizes the white daughters in the family mentioned before. Finally, the "...sweet gum leaf..." represents the narrator's mother and is

Stereotypes In The Hunger Games
In recent years, especially since the election of Barack Obama to the presidency in 2008 and again in 2012, America has indulged itself with the
fantasy of being a post–racial society or a "colorblind" society. This fantasy purports that America has evolved out of its racism, insisting instead that
race is not a factor in people's lives. This fantasy of post–racial society has extended to fictional media as well. This paper will describe how two recent
young adult novels, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman both recreate those stereotypes–despite
purporting to be in societies where modern racism is not a factor. Both books and authors neglect to adequately address race in their fictional worlds in
ways that do not merely maintain and repeat the same racialized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suzanne Collins intentionally creates The Hunger Games to take place in a society where race is not as divisive as in present day America. In an
interview with Entertainment Weekly, Collins describes the world of Panem as having experienced "a lot of ethnic mixing." Similarly, the director of
The Hunger Games film, Gary Ross, in the same interview describes the world as "a multi–racial culture." The Hunger Games attempts to portray a
society that is post–race and past understanding distinct racial identities as having any bearing on people's lives or their health outcomes. Collins and
Ross both allude to a colorblind mentality as well. When responding to fan outrage at white actors cast in the roles of Katniss and Gale, Collins
pushed back on implications she was complicit in whitewashing characters. In the novel, Gale is described as having "straight black hair" and "olive
skin", and Katniss reflects that "he could be my brother" because their physical features are similar. However, Collins insists that the

The Century Quilt Poem Summary
In the poem, "The Century Quilt," the speaker describes her lineage through a quilt. She emphasizes the importance of this quilt and highlights
different parts of her family history through various literary techniques: structure, imagery, and tone. The speaker tells her story in a very nostalgic,
yet optimistic tone. She references the different childhoods throughout her family history, from her grandmother's childhood to her own. She even
made quick remarks about her great grandfathers. While describing memories from her own youth, the speaker sounded as if she longed to go back
to those days. She shared memories of dressing up as princesses and falling asleep under her father's army blanket. Although she sounded very
nostalgic, the speaker was hopeful for the future. Towards the end of the poem, the speaker is found saying, "Within the dream of myself perhaps I'd

The first stanza describes the childhood of the speaker. She describes how she would play and her memory of when her grandmother, Meema,
moved in with her family. Because of Meema's Indian blanket, the speaker found blankets to have special meanings behind them. The reader is
informed of the speaker finding her own special quilt in the following stanza. She begins the stanza with "Now I've found a quilt I'd like to die
under." In this second stanza, the speaker describes the different colors on her quilt; she specifically points out how the yellow square reminds her of
her mother. Finally, the last stanza begins with her thinking of the future. "I think I'd have good dreams for a hundred years under this quilt."
Following this remark, she imagines her grandmother must have had many good dreams under her quilt while growing up. She believes her
grandmother "must have dreamed about Mama." The speaker ends the stanza, and the poem, by imagining she will dream of her own children, alive

Vows: A Narrative Fiction
The days were definitely getting colder and shorter. Catelyn drew her cloak more tightly around her as she walked from the Great Hall back to the
Keep after breaking her fast. She was to meet with Robb and Willas Tyrell in Ned's solar this morning to discuss the letter which had arrived from
King's Landing bearing the royal seal.
She had known it was coming, of course, but reading those imperious words which could barely be called even courteous and made no pretense of
being anything other than commands dictated by the woman now styling herself Queen Regent had made Catelyn's blood boil. The woman had
actually put a time limitation on her demands, explicitly stating she expected to see the party from Winterfell in King's Landing within two moons.
No response had as yet arrived to the letter she'd Ned, but scarcely enough time had passed for a raven to fly to the Wall and back again, even if the
weather remained fair throughout its journey. Tyrell had sent a vaguely worded response to his brother's letter hinting thatLord Redwyne's fleet might
be needed somewhere other than Dragonstone, but of course King's Landing was even further from Winterfell than the Wall was so they had no
reply from Ser Garlan as of yet. Tyrell had actually given his letter to Robb to read before having Maester Luwin send it, a gesture which caused Robb
to look upon him more favorably.
Tyrell was still in the Great Hall, breaking his fast with Sansa. In spite of the tremendous strains of the

The Century Quilt Summary
Marilyn Nelson Waniek's poem, The Century Quilt focuses on the importance of several quilts and the memories and dreams they evoke in the
speaker. On a more complex level, the poem illustrates the power of cherished objects to connect time, experience, and imagination. The unifying
influence of the objects on the speaker is reinforced by Waniel('s recurring diction. Words identifying the objects ("blanket" and "quilt") occur eight
times. Additionally, words connecting the objects to the speaker's mind "remembered," "imagine," and three forms of the word "dream") occur seven
times. The frequency of this diction is also significant, with four occurring in stanza one (which focuses on the speaker's past), two in stanza two

The stanza lengths also suggest the relationship between the beloved fabrics and time, experience, and imagination. Waniek divides her poem into three
stanzas of varying lengths, each stanza focusing on particular points in the speaker's experience. Set in the past, the twelve line first stanza п¬Ѓnds the
speaker reflecting on her childhood and her experiential connection to blankets in the possession of both her "Meema" and her "Daddy." The eight line
second stanza touches briefly on the present, and the speaker's acquisition of a quilt so beloved she'd "like to die under [it]." Longer than the first
two stanzas combined, the twenty–п¬Ѓve line п¬Ѓnal stanza п¬Ѓnds the speaker blending past, present, and future. She imagines a future where the
quilt "caress[es]" her, prompting her to visualize having "good dreams/for a hundred years." This reverie leads immediately into the speaker
contemplating a past where her grandmother, "under her [own] blanket" has dreams of a yet–to–be–bom daughter. Time and imagination shift yet
again, with the speaker's reflection on her "childhood of miracles" followed by п¬Ѓnal imaginings of her own "as yet unconceived"

My Ability To Read
I think today I am a good reader, and in the future my reading capabilities will be much higher than they are now. When I look at my reading log
today I can see that I am averaging about 25 pages in 30 minutes. I think that in the future,I will at the most be reading 40 or even 50 pages in the
30 minutes.I think this because today I am at the lexile number of 1225.In the future,I think that The lexile umber will increase drasticly.I am
going to make this happen by reading more and more every year and using the reading strategies that I have learned more and more making it
easier to read a higher level book and expanding my range of books into a higher place. Also right now I am reading more than the required amount
of reading time, which tells me that I enjoy to read and when I read I get lost in the book.My average amount of time to read a day is 30 with my
brother. The required amount is 20 minutes, so I usually exeed the expectation every day.I think in the future, I will be hopefully exceeding the
expectation of that grade level to.I will do this by incresing the amount of time I read each year till I ecxeed the expected amount of the required
time.I plan to start this at the end of this school year. I will start off with a small amount then in maybe a couple of years I will be past the expectation
by far.

at backpacker areas, in coffee shops, bars, or restaurants. I joined in several of them when I was in Vietnam. However I have never gone to a
haunted wood, for we don't have it there. Last year, my neighbor, who I have been knowing since I came to America, took me to Millers Thrillers
Haunted Wood. It was a terrifying and fascinating experience. The moment I walked into the wood, my imagination made it seemed scarier than what
I expected. Step by step, I carefully walked on a narrow trail where the rain of last night created a damp cheerless atmosphere. The light of the moon
lighted the trace help

Marilyn Nelson Waniek's The Century Quilt
In Marilyn Nelson Waniek's The Century Quilt a strong sense of structure, tone, and imagery is employed to develop complex meanings that the
speaker wants to convey to her audience. By organizing each stanza chronologically, using a nostalgic tone, and allowing for imagery to represent more
than what is written, Waniek successfully creates a theme– family is a source of comfort and endures the course of life. To make her audience aware
that this poem is a journey through life, Waniek breaks up her poem into three stanzas, each representing a point in her life. In the firststanza, Waniek
describes the past and shares the familial memories that are embedded in her Meema's blanket. With her sister, she "fell asleep under the army green"

Epiphany At The Kimbell Analysis
The Epiphany at the Kimbell
I've always been interested in the arts, always one to doodle on papers in class, and run to the sidewalk chalk during recess. But over time, that love
of creativity that had invariably been a part of my personality slowly trickled away. Perhaps it was lack of motivation, likely my depression played a
part, maybe it was just a part of growing up, whatever the cause, during the beginning of my freshman year of high school, I found that I hadn't created
a single sketch, much less a finished project, in over a year. I'd packed up my pencils and put away my brushes for what seemed to be the last time.
That all changed the day I walked into that museum and found my love of art rekindled into the burning passion it had once been. The glorious modern
building of the Kimbell Art Museum became my refuge, my second home, and most importantly the inspiration for the next phase of my life.
The museum is a work of art in itself, gorgeous barrel vaults, ceiling scattered with skylights, and three sunny courtyards dotting the interior. But for
me, the architecture was trivial, what truly captured my heart was the paintings. From Bernini to VelГЎzquez and everything in between, the museum's
collection alone is enough to inspire art in even the most banal onlooker. However, fortunately for me, the permanent ... Show more content on

I love the contrast, the depth in meaning that a swath of color can bring, and the joy that overcomes me as I finish a work of art. But not only that, I
love the meaning of the work itself, bringing together light and dark, shadows and highlights, the grief of loss and the buoyancy of youth in a single
painting. It reminded me that despite the pain surrounding us in this world, as real and sharp as that pain is, there is still a kindness in it all, a soft,
gentleness in ourselves that we can kindle into a glowing beacon of

The Century Guilt By Marylin Nelson Summary
Marylin Nelson, a poet and children's book author, wrote her poem "The Century Quilt" in the twentieth century for a quilter named Sarah Mary
Taylor. For Nelson, her life was influenced based on a family member's item. Nelson expresses through the poem the impact that her Meema's quilt had
on her life through theme, symbolism, and vivid imagery. When reading the poem, the reader can relate to Nelson by having a childhood memory
imbedded into her mind that includes a certain item that holds a significant meaning. For Nelson, the item that holds a significant meaning is her
Meema's quilt. The theme Nelson relays to her readers in the poem is that a childhood item can hold sentimental value throughout life. In the first
stanza she states how she fell "in love with Meema's Indian blanket" when she was a child, and she even mentions the memories she made with her
sister and the quilt. As she grew older, Nelson realized the significance the quilt had impacted on her life. Throughout the poem, Nelson makes
connections to what the quilt means to her. To Nelson, the quilt that belonged to her Meema was more than just a quilt. The quilt symbolizes her
family tree. The symbolism is made evident to the reader in the last two lines of the poem that states that Nelson would "call it the Century Quilt, after
its patterns of leaves."... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of vivid imagery is expressed in lines 15–16 that state how "one square [represents] the yellowbrown of Mama's cheeks." Nelson uses
descriptive language to back up the symbolism of the quilt representing her family's heritage. The reader also can find another example of vivid
imagery in lines 39–40, which state that Nelson would dream "of [her] father's burnt umber pride, [her] mother's ochre gentleness" under her quilt. The
use of vivid imagery shows how the memory of the quilt is imbedded into her memory

The Shelton With Sunpots By Alfred Stieglitz
Similarly, City Night (1929) is a forty–eight inch tall painting of geometric and sharp edged urban architecture towering over the glowing moon. The
naturally rounded moon is contrasted to the manmade straight lines of the city. The pedestrian perspective and ominous scale places the audience
between sharp towers. The environment and people that surrounded Georgia O'Keeffe stimulates her to add it in her work. Specifically, Alfred Stieglitz
was obviously a great influence in Georgia's life; being each others muse and benefactor. The 1926 painting "The Shelton with Sunspots" has
photographic influences. The warm toned painting produces a sun glare that is seen through a camera lens. The momentary action of catching the sun

Comparision of HighScope and Montesori Childhood Education...
HighScope was founded in America by David Weikart and colleagues in 1960s. It was originally developed for low income families and children.
Weikart and his colleagues proposed an intervention for three and 4 year olds to prepare them for school.
The HighScope approach to Early Childhood Education recognizes the benefits of active participatory learning. Therefore its programme is structured
around the concept of learning through play.
HighScope programme has eight curriculum areas of which one is Mathematics. HighScope Mathematics include concepts such umber words and
symbols, counting, shapes, measuring, and pattern. In classroom there are enough materials for everyone which allows experimenting.
Children acquire mathematics skills and concepts through adult – guided experiences that respect children's concrete thinking and need to learn
through exploration. One such adult–guided experience would be, for example, when children spontaneously use numbers in their play adult makes
comments using words and phrases like 'more', 'less', 'a lot', the same as'.
Throughout the day children are exposed to various concepts in the area of mathematics and these examples are:
At Small Group Time children may notice or an adult points out that there is one or more children missing and the conversation might continue about

Health Behavior Sociology
The article by Umberson, Crosnoe and Reczek, try to explain "how various social ties influences health behaviors at different life stages and how these
processes accumulate and reverberate throughout the life course" (2010, p139). What is health behavior? The authors define health behavior as any
personal action taken by individuals that may influence their health, disability, and even death.
As written by the authors social ties are usually discussed in terms of "structure and content (Umerson, crosnoe & Reczek, p.1). Structure refer to
social integration which is a process that involved everyone within a circle to participate with the hope of achieving a peaceful and good relationship
whereas social network can be thought of as a process whereby individuals build relation among each other and share similar idea and thoughts.
Content which can be positive or negative refers to social support and stress. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is that health behavior never stays the same and the example used were diet, exercise smoking, and drinking. Parents shape their children diet
and exercise habits which can be healthy or unhealthy. But as children becomes adolescents and younger adults they make their own health decisions
which is influenced sometimes by their peer. Secondly, the author believed that the relationship between children and parents are different than the
relationships between adults (romantic partners).
The authors believed that the single biggest factor that played a part in predicting adolescent health behavior is peers. It is a known fact that parents
play a big part in their children life, but we also know that as they get older those in the network play an even bigger role in shaping their health

Descriptive Essay: The City Of Baltimore
From the decaying brick rowhouses that line the streets to the massive cathedrals that dot the skyline, the city of Baltimore has provided great
inspiration towards my interest in architecture. One of my fondest memories is simply looking at the Baltimore city line from a shoddily shingled
roof, seeing the tops of grand cathedrals poking over monolithic parking garages, the bridge painted in a way reminiscent of gasoline in a puddle, and
the Baltimore Penn Station. It was an overcast winter day, and the normally vividly burgundy brick seemed to have taken on the qualities of the
weather, appearing a more solemn umber. The droning hum from the air conditioning units haphazardly placed on wooden palettes washed out the
ordinary sounds of the

Body Make Up History
Body make–up has an exceptionally long history; it evolved from painted masks to painted faces within shows and theatres to tribes from thousand
of years to current tribes of today such as African Zulu tribes and New Zealand Mawi tribes. In ancient times stage actors would wear masks and
body painting to portray their characters and they were used in the same way makeup and costumes is now used today to transform actors in various
ways such as different genders, characters or age. (Fig 1) One of the first times body painting makeup was used was arguably by the Greek actor
Thespis, he painted his face with white lead, and then shaded his body with lees of wine so that he could stand out from the chorus of actors. Yet as
time went on, stage lighting made make–up a necessity; they were gasoline lights and these lights tended to blur the actors' features, so over
exaggerating the actors face and body with deep colours, shading and painted lines would solve this problem. During the Renaissance, characters were
known to use lamb's wool to fashion false beards and powder their faces and body.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vermillion for rouging the cheeks and parts of the body, Indian ink for contouring the collar bones, eyes or eyebrows, and violet powder for refining
the complexion and body. But it was also possible to alter recipes for run–of–the–mill paints to make them suitable for the Theatre. For example,
"Rouge de Theatre" was created from "Rouge Vegetal"– a natural concoction of safflowers and carbonate of soda – by adding mucilage of gum
tragacanth, which hardened the rouge into a dry, vivid powder (Corson,

The Quilt In Waniek
Waniek describes the quilt in great detail, describing the memories show it's history, which tells the reader it has been around for awhile. When Waniek
does start to describe the quilt's physical appearance, she leads into talking about the owners of the quilt, noting what color they are. The color of the
people goes much deeper than we think, in fact it holds both a connotation and denotation. Waniek uses those elements to further explain the complex
meanings of the quilt.
When the narrator first says her Meema "was a girl again in kentucky among her yellow sisters" Waniek might at first mean that Meema was different
than her sisters, but the next line completely flips the meaning. Line 26 reads "their grandfather's white family" which

Symbolism In The Century Quilt By Marilyn Nelson Waniek
Throughout American history, quilting has been a major part of African– American culture. Starting at the time of slavery to relay information about
safe routes in the Underground Railroad, this tradition has continued and has begun to take on many different levels of significance to this
community. Used as a tool to escape racial persecution throughout history physically and mentally, quilting has acted as an art that transcends racial
barriers and to bring the races together in a positive way. In "The Century Quilt", poet Marilyn Nelson Waniek develops complex meanings of the
quilt using the literary devices of color symbolism, time shifts, and a warm atmosphere to effectively demonstrate the theme of love in families
transcending the idea of race. Color drives a significant amount of the meaning in this poem, as the idea is used in describing the characters and
objects throughout the poem and in creating the atmosphere of the work. This was especially prevalent in the description of the quilt in lines 15
through 17 as having "Van Dyke brown squares", " white squares", and "one square the yellow–brown of Mama's cheeks". By having these different
skin tones present, Waniek is representing the races represented in her family, which includes African
– American and European roots. Including the
sweetgum lead in each of the squares, this further emphasizes that while the speaker's great–great–great grandfather was white, the speaker's father is
black, and she herself is

Picasso-Braque Comparison Essay
During the 1920s and early 1930s, Braque painted a series of still lifes representing a return to a CГ©zannian means of expressing depth and surface
composition. As an heir of Cezanne, Braque had inherited the possibility of applying to painting the economy and precision traditional in the craftsman
milieu from which he came. The two great influences on Braque's development were CГ©zanne's work and his relationship with Picasso; an
understanding of the complexity of the Picasso–Braque reciprocity is necessary in order to interpret the stylistic differences that finally separated the
two artists. In Verre, pomme, serviette et pipe, as with other works executed during the same period, Braque was experimenting with a heightened
abstraction of form and the elision of space, light and perspective. The final result of Braque's effort, which was painted in 1931, is something of a
doctrinaire pre–World War II Cubist (kemper) composition, having generated the tactile space through the use of overlap, translucency and the
repetition of both form and color. From the muted venetian red of the apple to the gradated burnt umber of the background planes, which are
articulated like panels on a screen, the artist has tapped into the heavy, earthen palette HE FAVORED? we find in other works produced in the 1930s.

The Century Quilt
In the poem "The Century Quilt" by Marilyn Nelson Waniek the "Century Quilt" is a nostalgic necessity of the narrator. The upbringing of nostalgia
throughout the poem is the telling of an Odyssey, a journey home though not physical but emotional. Through the constant use of pragmatic imagery
that is erupting with allusions to the past and the unusual use of form that gives the poem a platform to project itself Waniek is able to produce a
stunning display of emotion and nostalgia that displays the complex meanings of the quilt and the vital importance of it to the narrator. Waniek's unique
form style splits the poem into three stanzas which represent the past the present and the future. The first stanza which embodies the past is written in
past tense. Words like "remembered", "planned", and "were" allude to the past and tell how the narrator is thinking of the joy that the quilt brought her.
The second stanza is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanzas opening "Now I've found a quilt I'd like to die under" is a small change in tone but it is not minor in scope. The slight change from a calm
nostalgia to more exited nostalgia is very important resulting in a change of diction. The narrator begins to describe the quilt with phrases that contain
allusions to her past like "the yellowbrown of Mama's cheeks". The change of tones impetus fuels these allusions which attribute to the complex
meaning of the century quilt that family is the blanket of life which keeps one safe through the darkness(night). The immense amount of illusions
continue on into the third stanza strengthening the complex meaning. Whilst being the longest paragraph the third paragraph is also a hive of hidden
meanings with allusions to the future and of what's to come of the quilt. The most essential part of this paragraph is the use of the word "dreams" and

She watched as the shining light faded out of his burnt umber and caramel mixed eyes that once glowed with happiness, and were now completely
vacant of any emotion. Nothing was there other than his dark irises which held a profound sadness that yearned for justice.

scarlet and felt as hot as a billion burning suns, as fire entwined her veins and slithered like a snake up her spine. All she felt was anger.
The anger flowed through her veins and killed her mind as if it was a deadly toxin to her spirit. Her eyes which were once full of innocence and
happiness were now full of fire and would kill anybody in their path. Just by looking into her burning stare would slash you into tiny, bloody pieces.

She hesitantly talks to strangers, but confidently acts weird and peculiar to her friends. She somehow brings her crazy to her friends, and makes the whole time with her interesting. Eileen buries her face in her book as she silently adjusts her turquoise glasses. She often argues with Kami, but they usually forgets about it or just forgives each other. She, much like Kami, is able to bring some enjoyment to average conversations, and it is always fun to be with her along with Kami. Janie Short Stories Janie was only six when she watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time, instantly she was hooked, she was blown away from movie being both ebony and ivory and in color, she was amazed at the vibrant colors of the emerald kingdom (I mean come on, there was a pink horse), and those shoes, oh those shoes, they were the very best part. Two days later Janie and her mom were walking down downtown to get groceries as they passed a small boutique Janie glanced in and saw the most beautiful elegant pair of ruby slippers she had ever seen it was just like the ruby slippers from the movie, it had sparkles and glitter and shine (oh my). Janie begged her mother for a pair and her mom tried say no but seeing the gleam and excitement in her little girl's eyes made it impossible. Janie was thrilled the beautiful ruby slippers and the new shoe smell, the rubber sole the fabric lining, filling her nose. Tokugawa Ieyasu's Collapse Her story begins far beyond where her memories themselves extend, to a time when the word Japan did not exist, to a time when the castles of Nihon were still bustling with people living their luxurious life while the people outside tolled away upon the rice fields – when Tokugawa Ieyasu brandished his sword to conquer and finally unify the islands together under one fist. The creation of the doll child had been a simple pastime at first, as an immortal with nothing better to do, her maker simply toiled away with the lush ochre dust of the Earth beneath her ivory feet, with the clarion water from the ever bubbling stream – slender fingers molding, crafting, grasping upon the threads of little ... In the poem "The Century Quilt" by Marilyn Nelson Waniek the speaker uses symbolism and tone to convey a deeper meaning behind the quilt. The speaker's symbolism displays the diversity in the speaker's family. The speaker's tone conveys pride in their family. Each square of the quilt represents a different section of the speaker's family, and past occurrences. The quilt that the speaker discovers contains earth tone squares. Each of these colors symbolizes a different family member. A single square that is "the yellowbrown of Mama's cheeks". The fact that there is a single square of this color shows that the speaker's mother is unparalleled. The speaker's father is described as having "burnt umber pride". The father was a war veteran as revealed in the first stanza when the speaker talks about the "army green" blanket that was given to the speaker's father by "Supply". The reason that the father's color is brown is because he passed away. The brown symbolizes his burial plot. Personal Narrative: Life After Death By Elizabeth Umber Life After Death On April 22nd of 2009, my wife, my best friend, my soulmate, the love of my life, Elizabeth Umber, was pronounced deceased. It was an extremely shocking death. I was at my job, working through the motions of any other day when I received the phone call that would change my life forever. Elizabeth had been in a car accident and was in the hospital in critical condition. Immediately, I went to pick up my two daughters, Ellie and Sage, from their elementary school and then rushed to the hospital. Four hours later, at 6:42 p.m., Elizabeth was gone. The article confirms that when Nell Vyse began her research, she had no prior information about glaze making. Her knowledge was culled mainly from German text books on pottery making. To formulate a particular stoneware glaze, she prepared twenty to thirty different blends of the necessary constituents to determine that the glaze and the clay body would intimately fuse together in the kiln. It is unbelievably difficult to achieve the perfect glaze. The ingredients are so human; they have likes and dislikes; feuds and infinities; some run to meet each other, others seem deliberately to take the wrong turning to avoid contact with the rest! I lament the fact that lovely things were no longer made nowadays. The big potteries are now machines, and they aren't taking apprentices anymore. • 11. The Century Guilt Essay Heirlooms are essential parts of a family's heritage and kinship. Family heirlooms can be jewelry, a decoration, or possibly even a quilt. "The Century Quilt" has a theme of the origins of heirlooms by using symbolism of the squares on a quilt and by using imagery to express a memory of a character. The theme of "The Century Quilt" is one of separation from family either by the family or by voluntarily excluding oneself from the family. "...the blanket found my sister's bed– the last time I visited her." implies the speaker has not seen their sister since finding out she had the family heirloom. • 12. Stereotypes In The Hunger Games In recent years, especially since the election of Barack Obama to the presidency in 2008 and again in 2012, America has indulged itself with the fantasy of being a post–racial society or a "colorblind" society. This fantasy purports that America has evolved out of its racism, insisting instead that race is not a factor in people's lives. This fantasy of post–racial society has extended to fictional media as well. This paper will describe how two recent young adult novels, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman both recreate those stereotypes–despite purporting to be in societies where modern racism is not a factor. The Hunger Games attempts to portray a society that is post–race and past understanding distinct racial identities as having any bearing on people's lives or their health outcomes. Collins and Ross both allude to a colorblind mentality as well. When responding to fan outrage at white actors cast in the roles of Katniss and Gale, Collins pushed back on implications she was complicit in whitewashing characters. She emphasizes the importance of this quilt and highlights different parts of her family history through various literary techniques: structure, imagery, and tone. The speaker tells her story in a very nostalgic, yet optimistic tone. She references the different childhoods throughout her family history, from her grandmother's childhood to her own. She even made quick remarks about her great grandfathers. While describing memories from her own youth, the speaker sounded as if she longed to go back to those days. On a more complex level, the poem illustrates the power of cherished objects to connect time, experience, and imagination. The unifying influence of the objects on the speaker is reinforced by Waniel('s recurring diction. Words identifying the objects ("blanket" and "quilt") occur eight times. When I look at my reading log today I can see that I am averaging about 25 pages in 30 minutes. I think that in the future,I will at the most be reading 40 or even 50 pages in the 30 minutes.I think this because today I am at the lexile number of 1225.In the future,I think that The lexile umber will increase drasticly.I am going to make this happen by reading more and more every year and using the reading strategies that I have learned more and more making it easier to read a higher level book and expanding my range of books into a higher place. Also right now I am reading more than the required amount of reading time, which tells me that I enjoy to read and when I read I get lost in the book.My average amount of time to read a day is 30 with my brother. The required amount is 20 minutes, so I usually exeed the expectation every day.I think in the future, I will be hopefully exceeding the expectation of that grade level to.I will do this by incresing the amount of time I read each year till I ecxeed the expected amount of the required time.I plan to start this at the end of this school year. I will start off with a small amount then in maybe a couple of years I will be past the expectation by far. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those parties are mostly held at backpacker areas, in coffee shops, bars, or restaurants. I joined in several of them when I was in Vietnam. However I have never gone to a haunted wood, for we don't have it there. Last year, my neighbor, who I have been knowing since I came to America, took me to Millers Thrillers Haunted Wood. Marilyn Nelson Waniek's The Century Quilt In Marilyn Nelson Waniek's The Century Quilt a strong sense of structure, tone, and imagery is employed to develop complex meanings that the speaker wants to convey to her audience. By organizing each stanza chronologically, using a nostalgic tone, and allowing for imagery to represent more than what is written, Waniek successfully creates a theme– family is a source of comfort and endures the course of life. To make her audience aware that this poem is a journey through life, Waniek breaks up her poem into three stanzas, each representing a point in her life. In the firststanza, Waniek describes the past and shares the familial memories that are embedded in her Meema's blanket. With her sister, she "fell asleep under the army green" and ... • 23. Epiphany At The Kimbell Analysis The Epiphany at the Kimbell I've always been interested in the arts, always one to doodle on papers in class, and run to the sidewalk chalk during recess. But over time, that love of creativity that had invariably been a part of my personality slowly trickled away. Perhaps it was lack of motivation, likely my depression played a part, maybe it was just a part of growing up, whatever the cause, during the beginning of my freshman year of high school, I found that I hadn't created a single sketch, much less a finished project, in over a year. I'd packed up my pencils and put away my brushes for what seemed to be the last time. That all changed the day I walked into that museum and found my love of art rekindled into the burning passion it had once been. The glorious modern building of the Kimbell Art Museum became my refuge, my second home, and most importantly the inspiration for the next phase of my life. The museum is a work of art in itself, gorgeous barrel vaults, ceiling scattered with skylights, and three sunny courtyards dotting the interior. But for me, the architecture was trivial, what truly captured my heart was the paintings. From Bernini to VelГЎzquez and everything in between, the museum's collection alone is enough to inspire art in even the most banal onlooker. However, fortunately for me, the permanent ... • 24. The Century Guilt By Marylin Nelson Summary Marylin Nelson, a poet and children's book author, wrote her poem "The Century Quilt" in the twentieth century for a quilter named Sarah Mary Taylor. For Nelson, her life was influenced based on a family member's item. Nelson expresses through the poem the impact that her Meema's quilt had on her life through theme, symbolism, and vivid imagery. When reading the poem, the reader can relate to Nelson by having a childhood memory imbedded into her mind that includes a certain item that holds a significant meaning. For Nelson, the item that holds a significant meaning is her Meema's quilt. The theme Nelson relays to her readers in the poem is that a childhood item can hold sentimental value throughout life. In the first stanza she states how she fell "in love with Meema's Indian blanket" when she was a child, and she even mentions the memories she made with her sister and the quilt. As she grew older, Nelson realized the significance the quilt had impacted on her life. Throughout the poem, Nelson makes connections to what the quilt means to her. To Nelson, the quilt that belonged to her Meema was more than just a quilt. The quilt symbolizes her family tree. The symbolism is made evident to the reader in the last two lines of the poem that states that Nelson would "call it the Century Quilt, after its patterns of leaves."... • 31. Body Make Up History Body make–up has an exceptionally long history; it evolved from painted masks to painted faces within shows and theatres to tribes from thousand of years to current tribes of today such as African Zulu tribes and New Zealand Mawi tribes. In ancient times stage actors would wear masks and body painting to portray their characters and they were used in the same way makeup and costumes is now used today to transform actors in various ways such as different genders, characters or age. (Fig 1) One of the first times body painting makeup was used was arguably by the Greek actor Thespis, he painted his face with white lead, and then shaded his body with lees of wine so that he could stand out from the chorus of actors. Yet as time went on, stage lighting made make–up a necessity; they were gasoline lights and these lights tended to blur the actors' features, so over exaggerating the actors face and body with deep colours, shading and painted lines would solve this problem. • 34. Symbolism In The Century Quilt By Marilyn Nelson Waniek Throughout American history, quilting has been a major part of African– American culture. Starting at the time of slavery to relay information about safe routes in the Underground Railroad, this tradition has continued and has begun to take on many different levels of significance to this community. Used as a tool to escape racial persecution throughout history physically and mentally, quilting has acted as an art that transcends racial barriers and to bring the races together in a positive way. In "The Century Quilt", poet Marilyn Nelson Waniek develops complex meanings of the quilt using the literary devices of color symbolism, time shifts, and a warm atmosphere to effectively demonstrate the theme of love in families transcending the idea of race. Color drives a significant amount of the meaning in this poem, as the idea is used in describing the characters and objects throughout the poem and in creating the atmosphere of the work. This was especially prevalent in the description of the quilt in lines 15 through 17 as having "Van Dyke brown squares", " white squares", and "one square the yellow–brown of Mama's cheeks". By having these different skin tones present, Waniek is representing the races represented in her family, which includes African – American and European roots. Including the sweetgum lead in each of the squares, this further emphasizes that while the speaker's great–great–great grandfather was white, the speaker's father is black, and she herself is ... • 35. Picasso-Braque Comparison Essay During the 1920s and early 1930s, Braque painted a series of still lifes representing a return to a CГ©zannian means of expressing depth and surface composition. As an heir of Cezanne, Braque had inherited the possibility of applying to painting the economy and precision traditional in the craftsman milieu from which he came. The two great influences on Braque's development were CГ©zanne's work and his relationship with Picasso; an understanding of the complexity of the Picasso–Braque reciprocity is necessary in order to interpret the stylistic differences that finally separated the two artists. In Verre, pomme, serviette et pipe, as with other works executed during the same period, Braque was experimenting with a heightened abstraction of form and the elision of space, light and perspective. The final result of Braque's effort, which was painted in 1931, is something of a doctrinaire pre–World War II Cubist (kemper) composition, having generated the tactile space through the use of overlap, translucency and the repetition of both form and color. From the muted venetian red of the apple to the gradated burnt umber of the background planes, which are articulated like panels on a screen, the artist has tapped into the heavy, earthen palette HE FAVORED? we find in other works produced in the 1930s.
