Louse Infest Horses
Two species of louse infest horses; Haematopinus asini (Suckling louse) which feed on blood obtained by puncturing the skin and Bovicola equi
(Damalina equi) feeds on skin debris and scales (Sorrell et al., 2010). Lice are host specific and can survive only for few days away from the host.
Female lice lay eggs on the skin which are firmly cemented on the hair safts. Proper maintenance of stable hygiene is compulsory to prevent the louse
infestation. Initial clinical signs comprise erythematous area of alopecia on the neck, cranial to the dorsocranial aspect of the scapula. Later on the
animal becomes very pruritic, and the lesion may expand to 15 to 20 cm in diameter, with alopecia, thickening of the dermis, and epidermal scale
(Silva et al., 2013). Closer examination of the lesion and adjacent mane reveals yellow–brown insects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is considered as a hypersensitivity reaction to the migrating larvae of stomach worms Habronema microstoma, H. muscae and Dreschia megastoma.
Both the stable and house fly deposit their larvae on manure, which injest the stomach worm larvae and serves as intermediate host. The adult flies
deposit stomach worm larvae wherever they feed like mucocutaneus junction, wounds and other moist regions of the animal's body. The larvae
deposited near mouth or lips complete their life cycle and become adult in the stomach. The larvae can penetrate wounds and moistened skin lesions
and may reach to dermal and subcutaneous tissues and eventually die (Rebhun, 1996; Yarmut et al.,2008). The disease occurs more in the fly season
with warm weather and regress during winters. Calcification and deposition of sulfur granules are the characterstic for stomach worm lesion (Pusturela
et al.,2003). The larvae deposited on the mucous membranes or on injured tissue do not complete their life cycle and induce a local inflammatory
reaction causing cutaneous (summer sores) or ophthalmic habronemiasis (Traversa et al.,

Head Louse Procedure In Children
The adult head louse has six legs and is about the size of a sesame seed. Descriptions of their color vary, but generally they range from beige to gray
and may become considerably darker when they feed.
Lice often appear to be the same color as the hair they've infested, making them hard to see with the naked eye. You can spot them most easily in the
areas behind the ears and along the hairline on the back of the neck.
Female lice lay up to ten minuscule eggs a day. Lice eggs (called nits) are oval in shape. They may appear to be the color of their host's hair, ranging
from white to yellow to brown.
The female louse attaches her eggs to human hair shafts with a waterproof, glue–like substance. This ensures that the nits can't be washed, brushed, ...

How to tell if your child get head lice?
Head lice can be difficult to detect, even when you closely inspect your child's head.
If you think your child may have head lice:
Check your child's hair. The most common places for head lice to lurk are in the hair behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
If you still can't spot any lice, comb the child's hair with a special nit comb. These are available from most chemists. It's easier to spot head lice as they
fall out if you comb the hair over a piece of white paper.
How to treat head lice?
If head lice are present, you need to treat your child.
You should only treat your child if you find live head lice, which confirms a live infestation. Don't treat "just in case".
Head lice are tough. They can't be killed by washing with normal shampoo or normal combing. Because they reproduce so quickly, you've got to kill
them before they spread to others.
If your child has head lice, check everyone in the family. You'll need to treat everyone affected to get rid of them.
You can treat head lice by wet–combing hair with a special comb, or by using medicated lotions or sprays available over the counter at

Treatment–resistant 'Super Lice' found in Texas and 24 other states Finding a solution for treating head lice may leave a lot of parents scratching their
heads this school years. Just picking up a box of over–the–counter head lice treatment may no longer be enough, that's because a new breed of "super
lice" have been identified in Texas and in 24 other states. Over–the–counter topical solutions such as Rid and Nix, as well as their generic equivalents
have been the go–to answer when children come home scratching their heads a little more than usual. These medications contain the active ingredients
permethrin or pyrethrin, a class of chemicals called pyrethroids. What has happened, is the general population has used products containing the
pyrethroids with such frequency, over an extended period of time, that lice have become resistant to them; and the ingredients... Show more content on

Some parents may wish to take a more natural approach to the problem, employing natural products like essential oils. "I have noticed that more and
more parents are using healthier options and more natural deterrents for lice such as tea tree oil," said Susan C. Stevens, director of the Albany
Chidlren's Center in Calfifornia, in an interview with Healthline. "Parents use a shampoo or conditioner with this ingredient to repel lice." Healthline
also reports useage of ingredients such as coconut oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, menthol, or rosemary oil. But just like any drug, continued use of
the products could lead to treatment resistance. "People thing these chemicals are safe because they're from nature. But they are very potent natural
oils," said Kyong Yoon, Ph.D., lead researcher in the study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology. "These products are easy to access, but

To A Mouse And Louse Summary
Silly Little Critter
(Three Messages From Mouse and Louse) When Robert Burns wrote To a Mouse as well as To a Louse, he had to have been thinking about it
pretty hard, because the messages of each text connect to one another in many ways. In both of these texts, he used little critters that might gross
some people out. He didn't really use a creature that very many people found cute in any way. It was a very creative way to go about, because he
decided he would use a animal/insect that people don't really pay too much attention to. There was a very genius reason to why he decided to use
pests as the main topic of his texts, and that's because it made all of the messages more clear to the reader. Robert Burns was a really known author,
and many people thought very highly of him. According to Brooke A. Stopford, "His greatest power, that which made him... Show more content on

This is a very true message in many ways. The main reason why this is most likely the best message in the texts, is because Burns talked about how
they don't have to live their life struggling because of worrying. Something that humans do a lot of the time is stress over things that might be big, but
might also not be as important as we act like it is. In the text To aMouse, Burns said, "Still thou art blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth
thee." What was being said in this sentence is that even though the mouse's house got completely destroyed, instead of sitting there and worrying about
it, he just started building a new one. He doesn't know about the past, nor the future. All that animals, as well as insects know about is the present,
which gives them a huge advantage over us. Same thing goes for the louse in To a Louse. He didn't know that he could get hit by something at any
minute and die, because unlike humans, they don't know about death until it

Crab Louse Research Paper
Lice Overview: The lice are insects that can infect humans and animals. The louse that attacks the man comes from the species Pediculs Humanus
and crab louse. The crab louse, commonly called crab, lives and reproduces in the pubic hair, eyelashes and eyebrows Causes: Pediculus Humanus,
also called louse, primarily infests the scalp, has a reproductive cycle that starts with the nit (egg) to form the louse. The nits are laid in large part
behind the ears and on the nape, adhere to the hair thanks to an adhesive that secrete, hatch after a week. The louse feeds on blood aspiring pricking
the scalp, causing severe itching. The louse if removed from the head, having no more nourishment, dies after a few hours. Symptoms: Usually after a
few days after infection the person begins to have itchy and head scratching, initially to areas of the head where the eggs are laid (behind and near the
ears), following the neck and upper trunk. The itching is caused by an allergic reaction to the saliva of the insect and, therefore, between the infestation
and the onset spends a few days in which the subject haunted not you realize you have lice, during which it is easy to transmit... Show more content on

In times past lice has been known as the nasty bug people can get in their hair. Never have people had problems with fighting the bugs off or paying
for the medication to fight them off. Usually people would just drive to their local supermarket and buy the easy–to–use over the counter medication to
get rid of pests. This type of medication would cost about $8.99– $19.99 at most depending on brands. Because these medications are tending to let
families down, they have to find an alternative. Angela Shirley, owner of The Lice Slayers in Lawrence, has seen firsthand the results of this
increasing resistance. Parents have been coming to this company for a while, saying they have tried three or four times to rid their child's hair of
lice with no luck. Lice Slayers offers the "AirAlle Treatment" which uses a special device to apply heat of about 138 degrees close to the scalp to
kill the unwanted visitors and their eggs. In most cases, one treatment, which costs $165, is all it takes to rid an infestation. "They're not going to
become resistant to the heat," Shirley said (Rudavsky 40). For Shirley, business has really been nice, having over 100 cases in August. Nevertheless,
this is not good news for many people with lice. Today people do all they can to get by with paying for school fees, college, groceries, doctor visits and
more. No one has the time or money to be spending

Lice are tiny bugs, or parasites, with claws on the ends of their legs. They live on a person's scalp and hair. Lice eggs are also called nits. Having
head lice is very common in children. Although having lice can be annoying and make your child's head itchy, it is not dangerous, and lice do not
spread diseases.
Lice can spread from one person to another. Lice crawl. They do not fly or jump. Because lice spread easily from one child to another, it is important to
treat lice and notify your child's school, camp, or daycare. With a few days of treatment, you can safely get rid of lice.

Descriptive Essay About Beach
The Beach
You have been in the car for a very long three days. You have sat in a line of cars 10 miles long. You have endured your annoying siblings, stressed
out parents and the cramped space of the car. You have eaten junk food and soda for days. Your legs are screaming to move, you think you will never
arrive. You have heard rumors about the beach. Sand so white it sparkles, water crystal clear, ships the size of buildings, andhotel rooms the sizes of
houses. You finally start to see the first signs of the ocean first the tall tan coconut trees, then the smell of the salt water, and then the roar of the
waves. Then you finally see it the ocean, so big and so blue. Full of life, adventure, and discovery.

After you and your family are done eating you continue on the boardwalk walk. As you are walking you can 't help but look into all the stores and
surf shop windows. You want everything in there but you know your parents will say no. Your parents do however let you go into one surf shop

Head lice are small, pesky bugs that spend their days living on the human scalp and feeding on human blood. These parasites are a common problem
world–wide with more than 6 million cases per year solely in the United States (Bartels, Peterson, & Taylor, 2001). A study recently conducted in the
United States shows that most head lice have become resistant to over– –the–counter medications, making it harder than ever for people to get rid of
the parasites. The study took lice from 48 states and through genomic DNA extraction between lice of the same sex and life span found that one to

DDT, one of the first insecticides, showed resistance to a species of insects starting as early as 1946, and this resistance has continued to progress and
become documented showing that insects can become resistant to any insecticide. ("Insecticide Resistance," 1958). Insecticide resistance has been
shown in four major ways: behavioral resistance, penetration resistance, knock–down resistance (kdr), and metabolic resistance (Bartels et al., 2001).
All of these types of resistance are allowing insects to avoid the effects of the insecticide either by physically avoiding through their behavior, or in the
case of knock–down resistance, a phenotype trait is inherited giving the insect nerve insensitivity of the major insecticides – DDT, pyrethrins, and
pyrethroids – through a point mutation (Gellatly et al.,

Essay on A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
The fictional tale entitled A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is an intriguing story which is expressed very well in the title. The story is about just
that, an old man with wings. The only aspect that the title fails to point out is that he is an angel. I find the story to be somewhat interesting; however,
it isn't exactly hard to put down. The one thing about this story that stands out the most, is the author's use of tone. This is the main aspect of the story
that jumps out at you. The usage of tone and detail really works to the story's advantage. The first paragraph alone is filled with descriptions that really
set the tone and make you feel like you are there. "On the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"By that time the onlookers less frivolous than those at dawn had already arrived and they were making all kinds of conjectures concerning the
captive's future. The simplest among them thought that he should be named mayor of the world. Others of sterner mind felt that should be promoted to
the rank of five–star general in order to win all the wars. Some visionaries hoped that he could be put to stud in order to implant on earth a race of
winged wise men who could take charge of the universe." At this point in the story, the characters start to wonder if the angel is even going to
survive. I feel that this sets a very dark and bleak tone. The angel is lying there, motionless, and all of the people who are around him can only
think about themselves. It shows how selfish humans can be when someone or something is dying, and the only reason they care if it lives or not
is so they can use it for their own benefit. Meaning, they want to use him for a leader or to bring in money, as the main characters did. Pelayo and
Elisenda (main characters) really cashed in on the presence of the Angel. The way that the angel is being used and poorly treated, does a good job of
setting the tone in itself. Anyone who imagines this situation is going to imagine it as somewhat of a grim one. This is actually quite strange if you
think about it. When most people think of angels they think of bright lights and happiness. The angels are always portrayed as strong,

The Lice Short Story
A Home for the Lice Have you ever wanted to know why lice chose people and why they chose our hair? Well, I have an explanation for it. I have
the story of all of their adventures. It all starts from the beginning of time. From the start, lice have always loved jungle like places. For example,
grass. That is where they commenced. They loved it there, they built forts, food storages, and all sorts of things. That is until the bug came around.
It had wings the size of the grass and claws the size of three blocks of dirt. This may not sound very big to us humans, but to lice, the size of dust, it
was terrifying. Anyways, the bug would raid their forts and destroy everything. So the lice packed up what they had left and went off in search of
another place to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some lice were hopeful, but some were hopeless for they had such terrible luck. The weary lice first went to the lips. That didn't work out because
the lips were constantly moving, shaking lice families off to the ground. Also when the women put on lipstick the lice would become trapped in
what seemed like quicksand. The lice packed up and went to the nose. Many of the lice adored it there. It was the perfect climate for them.
Unfortunately they moved there in the winter when the humans had colds. Sneezes were like a hurricane, runny noses were like mudslides, and a
blowing nose was like a tsunami. They shortly decided it wasn't safe for them to live there. Once again they packed up and left. Their next stop was
the eyelashes and eyebrows. It wasn't very hairy or concealing, but it had to work for the time being. They quickly found this would not work either.
Humans would pluck their eyebrows and pluck the lice out with them. They would also put mascara on their eyelashes causing the lice to be stuck in
what felt like tar. The worst part was the crying. It was like a tsunami similar to the nose, but 10 times worse. The desperate lice loaded up their things

The Importance Of Swimming
Humans enjoy participating in a large amount of activities, whether it be for competition or just for leisure. One of these many activities is swimming.
When swimming just for fun, humans can participate in activities such as swimming in the ocean, swimming at local pools, swimming in lakes, and
even swimming in rivers. The only problem that humans have when it comes to being in the water is that it is physically impossible for someone to
stay underwater for an extended period of time.
Most humans who are in good health are only able to hold their breaths for about two minutes. The exception to this time is those who breathe pure
oxygen prior to attempting to hold their breath. After breathing pure oxygen for about thirty minutes. Ricardo Bahia from Brazil held his breath for
twenty minutes and twenty–one seconds. While this is an amazing feat, most humans are unfortunately unable to achieve this record. It is for this
reason that humans invented special gear to help make breathing underwater easier and safer. With this special gear humans are able to spend longer
times underwater without the danger of drowning.

Head Lice : A Growing Problem
Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitus) is a growing problem and is a concern throughout the world, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals
globally.1 It affects all socioeconomic groups.2 Children aged 3 to 11 are the primary population affected with an estimated 6 to12 million
infestations occurring annually in the United States. Family members of those affected also contribute to the number of infestations.1,3 Head lice
infestations place a large burden on society. An economic cost of an estimated annual $1 billion is reported in the United States. This cost is
attributed to treatment costs, loss of funding to school systems due to excessive absences of students, and lost wages from work missed by caregivers
tending to their children.2,4 Affected individuals' quality of life is also impacted. Although head lice is not associated with poor hygiene, it still carries
a major stigma along with it.2,3 This is especially true among children in the school setting. As a result, children are ashamed and embarrassed
socially.2 Another concern associated with the treatment of head lice is the increasing issue of resistance resulting from the widespread overuse and
misuse of conventional pediculicides.1,5–7 Although the exact rates of resistance are not currently available, rates differ between communities and
countries.2,5–8 There is an undeniable consensus that the efficacy of many current and first line treatments are failing. Among these, the class of

Pubic Lotion: A Case Study
Pubic lice are easily treatable. The CDC recommends lice– killing lotions that contain 1% permethrin or any substances with pyrethrins and piperonyl
butoxide (CDC, 2017). Many infected people utilize these lotions because they are available over–the– counter without a prescription. This makes
access to care fairly simple if the infected person has access to a drug store or pharmacy. These over–the–counter lotions have been proven safe and
effective at a reasonable cost (CDC, 2017). There is also prescription treatment as well that helps kill lice and lice eggs. Lindane shampoo (Kwell) is
available by prescription, but is not recommended for everyone. Although effective, the medication is potentially harmful and may cause central
nervous system complications (Chaney & Anderson, 2009). This medication is not recommended to vulnerable populations, such as pregnant... Show

recommended to use a comb or fingertips to remove nits if they are still present. In order to remove lice and nits on clothing, towels, and bedding,
an infected person should machine wash and dry on a hot cycle immediately (CDC, 2017). Heat helps kill the pubic lice on clothing as well as
preventing the lice from blood feeding. Groups who do not have access to a washing machine, for example refugee groups, are recommended to put
all articles of clothing, bedding, and towels in a plastic bag isolated from humans for two weeks (Chaney & Anderson, 2009). This helps kill the lice

An Aesthetic Louse
"To say, I'm carrying a little brick for universal happiness, and so there's a feeling of peace in my heart.' Ha, ha! But why did you leave me out? I
have only one life; I, too, want... Eh, an aesthetic louse is what I am, and nothing more." (Dostoevsky 274)
In this excerpt from Fyodor Dostoevsky's 19th–century novel Crime and Punishment, the protagonist Raskolnikov utters these words during a
conversation with Porfiry Petrovich in which he reflects on his crimes alongside the crimes of others and brings forth an almost paradoxical image: an

Moral absolutism becomes the issue central to Raskolnikov's plight, as he becomes subject to different systems that have disparate ideals for morality,
which he wishes to achieve, but ultimately realizes he cannot fulfill them all. Furthermore, it becomes to central problem with the justice system as it
doesn't deeply examine the convictions that drive action and incorrectly categorizes individuals rather than seeing them as singular human beings.
Raskolnikov attempts to reconcile the two in his mind and suggests humanity cannot be universally defined by a set of laws or a code of conduct, but
rather understanding the complex motivations that drive actions. Dostoevsky reinforces the multi–faceted nature of humanity with the many gray areas
he introduces among his highly complex characters. This concern for metaethics favors moral relativism over moral absolutism. The only element that
is universal about humanity is that every human being is complex in their own way. Rather than looking at an individual for their aesthetic value in
society, whether good samaritan or criminal, attention should be diverted to the innermost state of mind. It is only when a human being is understood
and valued at the most micro level, as an individual, that humanity can be placed on equitable terms. Thus society must strive for a legal system that

Head Lice Persuasive Essay
(WENY) – As you get ready to send your kids back to school, make sure they aren't bringing any critters home with them. Each year as many as 12
million American school children between the ages of 3 and 11 get head lice, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Over the
years Doctors are finding that lice is becoming more and more resistant to over the counter treatment. Now, some doctors are advising patients to use
prescription treatments instead. Doctor Michelle Nanda, a Family Medicine Physician for Guthrie in Corning, says over the counter shampoos that
treat lice are now only about 80 percent effective at killing the parasites that live in hair. "It's the same principle with antibiotic resistance. As you

A Crabby Situation
A Crabby Situation At one point in everyone's life, we have to hear the dreaded "sex talk" or in other cases have had to discover the consequences
of sex on one's own. Within this talk you may cover what is a STD (sexually transmitted disease) and how life threatening, painful and grotesque they
may be. What if I said someone can pick up a little "friend" from being sexually active? This "friend" remains close like the skin to your body, loves to
play in hair and even feeds off of its companion. Meet the ultimate pal of STD's, Phthirus pubis or known as pubic lice, but we call the little parasites
Crabs. In case the question "how can a whole crab be transferred to my body?" surfaces, know I am not referring to the type of crab you can find at sea
or on SpongeBob. Pubic lice are referred as crabs because of their resemblance to actual crabs in its six–legged structure, though not necessarily
possessing claws. The crab (phthirus pubis) I am referring to are as tiny as 1.1–1.8 mm in length when fully matured in reference from kidshealth.org.
Even though these bugs are very small, they are visible to the naked eye, but blend very well in their environment and are advised to be viewed from
a microscope. Menshealth website describes that crabs are typically gray, white or brown, which makes the lice harder to spot. Now it's clear on how
pubic lice appear, where exactly are they? The most common place phthirus pubis can be found on an infected individual's pubes along with

indicates they are dead or dying. If the lice still seem active after you've used the medication, it probably means that pesticide isn't effective. One
problem with lice is they've become resistant to the pesticides used in the shampoos designed to kill them. If one medication doesn't work, you may
need to try another, but don't use it or use an additional application until you've talked to your doctor. The chemical pesticides used in lice treatments

for the way they are able to survive in the extreme sea environments. Three species, in particular, have interested scientists for their own unique ways of
adapting: the giant squid, the zombie worm, and the yeti crab. Their ways of adaptations allow them to survive in the intense deep sea environments.
First and foremost, every species has different ways of adapting to the world around them. These simple adaptations allow them to survive their extreme
living environments. One creature has many features that contribute to its living space. The giant squid is a worldwide squid that adapts... Show more

One of these creatures are the yeti crabs. These crabs live near the thermal vents at the bottom of the deep sea. Their white color could be due to
their obscured environment. There is a reason these crabs are called "yeti crabs". Yetis have hair, so this would represent the crab's distinct features.
As said in the article, these crabs are "Dubbed 'yeti crabs' for their hairy chests and legs, these creatures are new to science" (p.3). This has grown on
the crabs over many years to adapt to the thermal vents around its living space. The yeti crab lives in a mixed climate where it is very hot and very
cold at the same time. When these two temperatures collide, "chemical reactions produce an array of mineral compounds, which many organisms
consider food" (p.2). Animals such as the yeti crab depend on chemistry rather than photosynthesis. Since these crabs are new to science and new to the
studies of scientists, they "aren't sure but conjecture that mineral–eating bacteria might grow on the crabs' hairs and that the crabs might scoop up the
bacteria" (p.3). This differs from the other crabs in the world. Maybe the more the yeti crabs live near the thermal vents, they will adapt even more and

Head Lice Infestation Research Paper
The treatment of infestation of head lice is done using topical insecticides. The CDC recommends to treat all those infested, residing in the same
home, at the same time. Check the entire household for evidence of live lice. If beds are shared in a household and one of the bedmates is infested, the
other bedmate should be treated. Over–the–counter treatments for head lice are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Pediculocides
kill lice and ovicides kill the nits. If the treatment is not ovicidal or is weakly ovicidal multiple treatments are necessary for the complete eradication of
the infestation. If the treatment is strongly ovicidal only retreat if new, moving lice are present several days after the initial treatment. When... Show

This is indicative that the treatment is working. If, after 8–12 hours, the treatment doesn't seem to be working, seek medical attention. A nit comb is
most effective in the removal of nits (1). Because treating an infestation of head lice is time consuming and tedious, in some large cities there are
professional lice removal services (8). Treatments include Pyrethrin (Rid) made from chrysanthemum flower extracts. Pyrethrin only kills live lice
and retreatment is strongly recommended. Do not use if allergic to chrysanthemums or ragweed. Pyrethrins are not recommended for those under two
years of age. Permethrin (Nix) can also be used for the treatment of head lice. Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid similar to pyrethrins. Permethrin
kills live lice but not nits and retreatment is strongly recommended. Permethrins are not recommended for those under two years of age. Prescription
Benzyl alcohol lotion (5%) (Ulesfia lotion) is another effective method of treatment. Benzyl alcohol lotion (5%) kills live lice with aromatic alcohol

Head lice. Did you suddenly became overwhelmed by need to scratch your scalp after reading those words? I did. Head lice have been around for
many years and the need to get rid of them has been around for about the same time. In recent years over–the–counter treatments have become the
miracle workers for getting rid of head lice, but what would happen if our number one defense stopped affecting them. Almost everybody has had
head lice at least once in their life. An estimated 6 to 12 million children in the United States have head lice every year. I remember during third
grade watching the kid that sat next to me in math class scratching his head every second of the day and thinking "What is wrong with him?" A few
days later, I found myself and the students around us doing the same. All the memories I have of the following that day involved me sitting in a chair
on our well lit bathroom while my dad nitpicked my hair. According to the article "Mutant Lice are Probably Coming! But First, the Hype" studies

The Advertising Campaign Of 'Union Is Strength'
"United" Recently, there have been issues of gender, race, ethnicity, police brutality, and more throughout the United States. Countless stories can be
heard of white cops shooting black men, professional football players kneeling for the National Anthem, and people being pushed to the brink of
suicide for being made fun of for being "different." As a nation, the people are divided. Everyone is in their own little group. Black men tend to hang
out with black men. White men tend to hang out with other white men. United. It's in the name of this country. United we stand, divided we fall. In the
advertisement campaign for "Union Is Strength," (Link 1) there are many examples that symbolize why it is better to be united rather than divided
and why this series of advertisements is considered so influential due to it's inspiring message and endless number of interpretations and uses. The
future of this country really depends on people sticking together. There is even a campaign of advertisements dedicated to this. There are three
advertisements under the name, "Union is Strength" that depict this. Each commercial is thirty seconds long and is trying to reach the same
conclusion. The first commercial in the campaign shows a group of crabs walking on the sand. A seagull is seen flying overhead. The seagull singles

Myiasis from Larvae and Pubic Lice
Myiasis (from the Greek "myi", fly) is defined as the invasion of living tissue by dipterous larvae. Several fly species such as Oestrus ovis have been
reported to cause myiasis, affecting humans either directly, when the female fly deposits the larvae on the conjunctiva or eyelids of a human host rather
than a sheep or a goat, or indirectly, through dirty hands. Ocular myiasis presentations include external ophthalmomyiasis, when the larvae is found in
the external ocular tissues, leading to ocular surface disorders (conjunctivitis, punctuate keratitis) or pseudoorbital cellulitis, and internal
ophthalmomyiasis, a rare condition with a clinical course ranging from asymptomatic to severe uveitis, retinal detachment and optic atrophy. Several
methods of treatment have been reported depending on the location of the larva. Management of external myiasis includes the mechanical removal of
the larvae in association with topical administration of steroids to reduce conjunctival inflammation.(1) This may be a challenging maneuver, as the
larva tends to firmly attach to the ocular surface. Some authors recommend the use of topical anesthetic to loosen the larval attachment.(2) Double
eversion of the eyelids is mandatory to ensure that larvae have been completely removed. Early removal decreases the potential of vision loss and
larvae dissemination. For subretinal larvae, argon laser photocoagulation has been used with successful results. Vitrectomy and retinotomy is
recommended if

To A Mouse And To A Louse
The Critical Values Perceived Through "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse"
(A Discussion of "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse")
Throughout life we are asked to analyze multiple different things. For example, take kids in sports that are analyzing how they played in their
previous game. Even some parents are known to overanalyze their kids events which often leads to them getting ejected. Often times we are asked to
review stories or poems that we have read in English class and although at times that can be hard we are all slowly getting better at it. Robert Burns To a
Mouse and To a Louse has multiple romantic philosophies.
First of all, there is the philosophy of worrying about only the present. He shows this a lot in the poem To a Mouse. This is shown because even ... Show

Analysis Of To A Louse By Robert Burns
Itchy, tiny, and crawly are words that people use to describe a louse, but Robert Burns's poem "To a Louse" tells a different story. Although this
poem has a rough exterior, the story should not be overlooked just because of the different writing style. The poem begins by telling the story of a
little louse peeking out of a sophisticated woman's bonnet. The third person feels that this low life louse does not belong with a classy lady, but he
should be among the beggars. Then, the poem ends pointing out that the woman is being acknowledged by the bug on her bonnet and not by her
looks. The poem ends with a message in the last stanza saying "To see oursels as ithers see us!" (Burns). Understanding the summary of the poem, the
story can be further explored by looking at the background and literary devices. In evaluating this poem, one can gain an insight on the historical
context, irony, and how this literary device affects the audience's thoughts. Robert Burns uses this poem to give the reader an awareness of his life as a
poor Scott at the time. This unique style of language was thought to be a result of Burns's upbringing. Around the time the poem was written, 1784 to
1786 Robert Burns struggled economically with his fam and used poetry as a distraction (Shairp). David Sampson in The Modern Language Review
writes "Initially his low birth and, in particular, his lack of a liberal education were regarded as disadvantages for which allowance had to be made in
criticism" (24). Robert Burns was someone with a low social class that many believed was why he writes in this style, but rather than being a
disadvantage, people saw this as a way for Burns to be original and not influenced by poets prior to him (Sampson 25). This childhood could be a
reason of why he points out the woman in gauze and lace to be vain. An article in the Scottish Literary Review writes "She also conveys a strong
impression of Burns's own thoughts about this process of poetic development, seeing in him 'an extraordinary instance of class–anger, class–denial and
class–bargaining on a grand scale'" (Andrews). The "she" in this quote refers to Carol McGuirk who worked on multiple Burns studies. His pattern for

The Characteristics Of The Appearance Of Humans And Humans
Millions of years ago, humans and animals were extremely similar in their appearance. We shared many characteristics but the one that stood out the
most was our abundance of hair. However, as time went on, humans evolved in their physical appearance and we started to lose most of the hair on
our bodies. We are now bare and naked compared to how we were, especially compared to animals.
Most of an animal's body is completely covered in hair and it serves as a layer of protection from foreign bodies that can harm it's skin. Factors such as
harmful sun rays and parasites can take a toll on an animal's well–being and that is why their hair is a significant barrier. Also, for instance, when it is
awfully cold in some parts of the world, the animal's fur is the only thing preventing them from freezing to death. For example, the Artic fox,
commonly known as the white fox, lives in the Artic regions in the North. It gets so cold in the winter, that if the fox did not have it's alabaster fur, it
would not be able to withstand it. Not only are animals' furs a protective layer, but they are a distinctive characteristic that sets some of them apart
from the rest. A few examples, would be the spotted pattern of a cheetah or the black and white stripes of a zebra. These specific patterns help them to
camouflage themselves against any prey or predator and even to help recognize one from the other. I think this is such an interesting characteristic that
these animals have and it gives them

Pediculus humanus capitis, also known as head lice, has been infesting the heads of humans for hundreds of thousands of years. Head lice are
different than other types of lice, in that head lice do not spread diseases (4). Infestation can happen to anyone of any age; although elementary
school aged, female children are most likely to contract head lice (1,2,3,4,5,6). The only host to head lice is humans (4). House pets do not spread
head lice (1). Head lice is usually spread by head to head contact. Less often they are spread by items such as combs, brushes, hats or scarves (1).
The legs prevent the "grabbing" on to the hard surface of such items as combs and brushes (4). Contrary to stereotypical belief, personal hygiene,
economic status and income do not contribute to the contracting of head lice (1). Although poor sanitization and hygiene, overly crowded living
arrangements, and those living at or below the poverty level, lead to the survival of head lice. Proper education from school nurses can aid in the
prevention and control of head lice infestations (2). Head lice can have some contributing qualities. Evolutionary biologists are using head lice to

When one thinks of an angel, they think of a beautiful, angelic creature clothed in white, with dazzling wings, a holy being floating gracefully through

a MГЎrquez, Pelayo

causing their child's sickness. After killing many crabs, Pelayo walks outside to find a very old man with enormous wings covered in mud, who
they believe to be an angel. The next day, upon the arrival of the townspeople, Pelayo and Elisenda have an idea to charge the townspeople five
cents to see the angel. As soon as they started gaining great wealth, however, their situation began to decline, as the townspeople got bored of the
angel and left to see the little girl who had turned into a spider for disobeying her parents. Soon the townspeople began to leave, therefore causing the
couple to stop gaining money, thus leading to their downfall. However, they were surrounded by many riches, therefore not affecting them as much.
Much to the relief of the couple, several years later the old man flies away. One can argue that the old man in AVOMWEW was not intended to be an
angel, but MГЎrquez makes it pretty clear that he is an angel because the old man cured the child, bestowed great riches on Pelayo and Elisenda and

Head Lice: Providing Effective Education to Children and Families
Pediculus humanus capitis is the medical term given to the ever so common head lice found on many school age children, generally between the
ages of 5 and 12 years old. Head lice is found only on humans and typically any time of the year, however the incidence rate is highest between the
months of August and November (Price, Burkhart, Burkhart, & Islam, 1999). Contrary to popular belief, the wingless parasites do not jump from one
host to another. They are only transmitted via close contact between human hair or through soft fabric items such as hats, scarves, combs, and towels.
Head lice do not carry or transmit diseases to their host, but they can make the scalp very itchy and removing them is an extremely tedious process.
Head lice can also be very embarrassing for the children and the parents as well. The school nurse plays an important role in discovering the infestation
and effectively educating the family of the child to ensure successful results with treatment and elimination. Most importantly the school nurse must be
particularly sensitive to the child's feelings regarding lice and avoid excluding the child from any activities to prevent shaming from their peers and
overall feelings of embarrassment (Price et al., 1999).

How can the school nurse better educate children as well as their family members about head lice and ways to help prevent or successfully treat
infestations?

Prevention and Policy about Head Lice
PREVENTION Avoid head to head contact; do not share combs, brushes, headwear, and towels; do not lie down on beds, pillows, or couches used by
a person with head lice. Check and comb your child's head at least once a week to prevent a full–blown infestation. Support school policies that do not
allow children with lice or nits to attend school. HEALTH CONCERNS Lice are not dangerous and they do not spread any disease, but they are very
contagious and irritating. The lice bites can cause excessive scratching that can result in secondary skin infection. An itchy child could lose sleep, be
shunned, or find it harder to concentrate at school. Treatments can involve harmful chemical, are exhausting and time consuming. SCHOOL
POLICIES Some schools – including in California – shift to lenient policies regarding students with lice. Since head lice are not considered a health
hazard, children with lice are allowed to attend school, so they will not miss classes. Parents are not notified when lice are found on children in class
to avoid embarrassment and protect privacy. This approach can result in more severe lice outbursts. We can only hope that it is not taken to the
extreme. Reference List: CA Department of Public Health (2012, September). Head Lice. Retrieved from http://www.cdph.ca.gov/healthinfo/discond

Summary Of To A Louse By Robert Burns
Robert Burns wrote the poem "To a Louse" in 1786, in Scotland, that emphasizes the social constructs of man and as well as man's vanity. Burns then
goes on in further detail to explain the artificial concept of social class and perspective of the individual in society. He does this by describing one day
sitting in church where he is behind gorgeous young noble woman while a louse is crawling upon her silken bonnet. The lady is completely oblivious
to the fact that the louse is upon her bonnet while everyone sitting in the pews nearby point and wink with one another at the appearance of the louse.
Through this ridiculous and humorous poem Burns is highlighting the vanity of human nature and the artificial construct of social class through his own
eyes that he is seeing in eighteenth century Scotland. In the poem, the reader finds Burns sitting in his pew in church where he notices a louse, a
small wingless insect sometimes called lice or fleas, crawling upon the bonnet of a young and elegant lady in the seat in front of him. At this point
in the poem Burns is surprised that the louse would dare set his feet upon such a fine lady rather than that of a beggar or vagabond in the streets,
where a louse would normally be found. Here Burns then goes on to describe the louse as "Detested, shunn'd, by saunt (saint) an' sinner" and more
usually associated with the likes of the lower class, such as beggars and slaves, and not the upper class from which the lady is from, according to "The
Bard: Robert Burns, a Biography" by Robert Crawford. Burns then begins to admire the bravado and courage of the louse as he makes the trek up
the noble lady's bonnet. Where Burns then turns his attention to the elegant lady whom he calls "Jenny." Which he then tells her not to shake her
head in an air of pride as she is completely unaware of the humorous effect that the sight of the louse has upon all of the people nearby. As Burns
watches those around him take notice of this spectacle in front of him he wishes that the supreme power of God would give us the ability to see
ourselves as others see us. Thus, riding ourselves of our pride, vanity, and misconceptions in one another created by the human construct of class in
society and

Ddt : A Highly Effective Insecticide Kills Mosquito, Louse...
Abstract:
Introduction:
DDT is a highly effective insecticide kills mosquito, louse and other crop pests. Thus, it was widely used in the United States, Western Europe and
some Asian countries to promote the prosperity of agriculture and to control epidemic typhus, malaria and other insect–borne infectious diseases during
the World War II.DDT reached its peak demand in 1950s and 1980s, when more than 40,000 tons DDT were used worldwide each year. Although
some scientists had concern about the extensive use of the pesticide, public kept ignoring DDT's harm until 1962, when Rachel Carson published Silent
Spring – a book that pointed out occurrence of toxicological problems and emphasized insecticides, including DDT, were chief culprits of the problems
(Carson, 1962). Silent Spring aroused a hot debate controverting the common view at that time that these chemicals were harmless. This contestation
jeopardized some people – including the companies that produce DDT, scientist who recommended the chemicals and some other economists – and
under the pressure from public, President Kennedy asked his scientific advisors for a report and Congress held hearings on federal regulation of
pesticides (Dunlap, 1981). In 1972, EPA banned DDT from civilian using. Scandinavian Peninsula, U.S. and Canada were the first countries responded
and started prohibit DDT; sooner, the ban against DDT extended to most of the Western European countries. Although the ultimate goal is to eventually

Head Lice and How to Treat Them Essay

It is common for children to share items in a classrooms setting for example; this is good breeding ground for infestations between students.
Listerine Treatment
Listerine is a proven method to treat lice; it is effective due to its content of alcohol, eucalyptol, thymol, and menthol and methyl salicylate. These
ingredients are toxic for the lice, but safe for the user. This procedure eliminates the bonding agent that lice eggs stick to on thehair shaft. Treat the
affected by washing followed by toweling and drying the hair. Massage the Listerine into the child's head and hair this is the safest way to avoid eye
contact. The next step is covering the head with a plastic cap or towel. Leave the treatment on the child's head overnight or for a few hours. Comb the
hair out with a lice comb, and shampoo the hair after. Normally infected condition is resolved with one use, but you can repeat the treatment again if
you are concern there might be remaining nits. Vinegar Treatment Vinegar is widely used for various purposes, and is highly effective in treating head
lice. The child hair should be shampooed and towel dried as normal, and followed by equal amounts of white vinegar and water. This solution should
be massage in to the head gently. The mixture acts as a dissolving agent eliminating the dead lice, and removing any remaining nits. An added

outbreak at my home. You would think having boys would make me immune to this chore, but not a chance with kids that love that unkempt,
long–haired, rock and roll style. After trying quite a few lice treatment products through the years, Nix Complete Lice Elimination Kit genuinely
impressed me. It's not something I like dealing with, but this product eased some of the headache. The Nix Complete Lice Elimination Kit has more
steps than other kits, however the extra work during treatment considerably reduces the time taken for the final step of all treatments, the removal of...

This kit cost me about $25.00 at Walgreens. You can find store brands for less than $10.00 and more expensive products for $30.00 or more. The Nix
kit is closer to the higher end, but well worth the extra cost. The least expensive treatments would be at home remedies. Everyone has a family member
that swears by slathering the child's head in mayonnaise or even kerosene. Who in their right mind puts kerosene on a child's head? The cheapest
method being the old fashioned way of picking through the hair with tweezers or just your fingernails, pulling out bugs and nits, and placing them
in a bowl of water. Picking lice and nits manually takes hours upon hours. Those little lice are amazingly fast and great hiders. At the daycare center
where I work, if a child has lice, I'll usually do the old fashioned method if the mom and dad are struggling with treating at home. Some little ones sit
better for a person other than their parents and I'm more than willing to help because I know how rough it can be. I don't like this method, still it does
get the job

Louse Infest Horses

  • 1. Louse Infest Horses Two species of louse infest horses; Haematopinus asini (Suckling louse) which feed on blood obtained by puncturing the skin and Bovicola equi (Damalina equi) feeds on skin debris and scales (Sorrell et al., 2010). Lice are host specific and can survive only for few days away from the host. Female lice lay eggs on the skin which are firmly cemented on the hair safts. Proper maintenance of stable hygiene is compulsory to prevent the louse infestation. Initial clinical signs comprise erythematous area of alopecia on the neck, cranial to the dorsocranial aspect of the scapula. Later on the animal becomes very pruritic, and the lesion may expand to 15 to 20 cm in diameter, with alopecia, thickening of the dermis, and epidermal scale (Silva et al., 2013). The adult flies deposit stomach worm larvae wherever they feed like mucocutaneus junction, wounds and other moist regions of the animal's body. The larvae deposited near mouth or lips complete their life cycle and become adult in the stomach. The larvae can penetrate wounds and moistened skin lesions and may reach to dermal and subcutaneous tissues and eventually die (Rebhun, 1996; Yarmut et al.,2008). The disease occurs more in the fly season with warm weather and regress during winters. Calcification and deposition of sulfur granules are the characterstic for stomach worm lesion (Pusturela et al.,2003). The larvae deposited on the mucous membranes or on injured tissue do not complete their life cycle and induce a local inflammatory reaction causing cutaneous (summer sores) or ophthalmic habronemiasis (Traversa et al., ... • 2. Head Louse Procedure In Children The adult head louse has six legs and is about the size of a sesame seed. Descriptions of their color vary, but generally they range from beige to gray and may become considerably darker when they feed. Lice often appear to be the same color as the hair they've infested, making them hard to see with the naked eye. You can spot them most easily in the areas behind the ears and along the hairline on the back of the neck. Female lice lay up to ten minuscule eggs a day. Lice eggs (called nits) are oval in shape. They may appear to be the color of their host's hair, ranging from white to yellow to brown. The female louse attaches her eggs to human hair shafts with a waterproof, glue–like substance. This ensures that the nits can't be washed, brushed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How to tell if your child get head lice? Head lice can be difficult to detect, even when you closely inspect your child's head. If you think your child may have head lice: Check your child's hair. The most common places for head lice to lurk are in the hair behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If you still can't spot any lice, comb the child's hair with a special nit comb. These are available from most chemists. It's easier to spot head lice as they fall out if you comb the hair over a piece of white paper. How to treat head lice? If head lice are present, you need to treat your child. You should only treat your child if you find live head lice, which confirms a live infestation. Don't treat "just in case". Head lice are tough. They can't be killed by washing with normal shampoo or normal combing. Because they reproduce so quickly, you've got to kill them before they spread to others. If your child has head lice, check everyone in the family. You'll need to treat everyone affected to get rid of them. You can treat head lice by wet–combing hair with a special comb, or by using medicated lotions or sprays available over the counter at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Super Lice Research Paper Treatment–resistant 'Super Lice' found in Texas and 24 other states Finding a solution for treating head lice may leave a lot of parents scratching their heads this school years. Just picking up a box of over–the–counter head lice treatment may no longer be enough, that's because a new breed of "super lice" have been identified in Texas and in 24 other states. Over–the–counter topical solutions such as Rid and Nix, as well as their generic equivalents have been the go–to answer when children come home scratching their heads a little more than usual. These medications contain the active ingredients permethrin or pyrethrin, a class of chemicals called pyrethroids. What has happened, is the general population has used products containing the pyrethroids with such frequency, over an extended period of time, that lice have become resistant to them; and the ingredients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some parents may wish to take a more natural approach to the problem, employing natural products like essential oils. "I have noticed that more and more parents are using healthier options and more natural deterrents for lice such as tea tree oil," said Susan C. Stevens, director of the Albany Chidlren's Center in Calfifornia, in an interview with Healthline. "Parents use a shampoo or conditioner with this ingredient to repel lice." Healthline also reports useage of ingredients such as coconut oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, menthol, or rosemary oil. But just like any drug, continued use of the products could lead to treatment resistance. "People thing these chemicals are safe because they're from nature. But they are very potent natural oils," said Kyong Yoon, Ph.D., lead researcher in the study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology. • 4. To A Mouse And Louse Summary Silly Little Critter (Three Messages From Mouse and Louse) When Robert Burns wrote To a Mouse as well as To a Louse, he had to have been thinking about it pretty hard, because the messages of each text connect to one another in many ways. In both of these texts, he used little critters that might gross some people out. He didn't really use a creature that very many people found cute in any way. It was a very creative way to go about, because he decided he would use a animal/insect that people don't really pay too much attention to. There was a very genius reason to why he decided to use pests as the main topic of his texts, and that's because it made all of the messages more clear to the reader. Robert Burns was a really known author, and many people thought very highly of him. According to Brooke A. Stopford, "His greatest power, that which made him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very true message in many ways. The main reason why this is most likely the best message in the texts, is because Burns talked about how they don't have to live their life struggling because of worrying. Something that humans do a lot of the time is stress over things that might be big, but might also not be as important as we act like it is. In the text To aMouse, Burns said, "Still thou art blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth thee." What was being said in this sentence is that even though the mouse's house got completely destroyed, instead of sitting there and worrying about it, he just started building a new one. He doesn't know about the past, nor the future. All that animals, as well as insects know about is the present, which gives them a huge advantage over us. Same thing goes for the louse in To a Louse. He didn't know that he could get hit by something at any minute and die, because unlike humans, they don't know about death until it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Crab Louse Research Paper Lice Overview: The lice are insects that can infect humans and animals. The louse that attacks the man comes from the species Pediculs Humanus and crab louse. The crab louse, commonly called crab, lives and reproduces in the pubic hair, eyelashes and eyebrows Causes: Pediculus Humanus, also called louse, primarily infests the scalp, has a reproductive cycle that starts with the nit (egg) to form the louse. The nits are laid in large part behind the ears and on the nape, adhere to the hair thanks to an adhesive that secrete, hatch after a week. The louse feeds on blood aspiring pricking the scalp, causing severe itching. The louse if removed from the head, having no more nourishment, dies after a few hours. Symptoms: Usually after a few days after infection the person begins to have itchy and head scratching, initially to areas of the head where the eggs are laid (behind and near the ears), following the neck and upper trunk. The itching is caused by an allergic reaction to the saliva of the insect and, therefore, between the infestation and the onset spends a few days in which the subject haunted not you realize you have lice, during which it is easy to transmit... Therefore, Super Lice is becoming a major problem in the USA because medications are not treating the lice. However, some people say Super Lice is still the same Lice it's always been and there's nothing to worry about, but head lice is much harder to kill than usual. First, Super Lice has mutated into another version of lice. This means lice is now resisting pyrethoid or over the counter medications. Doctors noticed a change in treating lice, this caused research to be done. Researchers found, that head lice have developed a gene mutation that essentially teaches them to resist common... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In times past lice has been known as the nasty bug people can get in their hair. Never have people had problems with fighting the bugs off or paying for the medication to fight them off. Usually people would just drive to their local supermarket and buy the easy–to–use over the counter medication to get rid of pests. This type of medication would cost about $8.99– $19.99 at most depending on brands. Because these medications are tending to let families down, they have to find an alternative. Angela Shirley, owner of The Lice Slayers in Lawrence, has seen firsthand the results of this increasing resistance. Parents have been coming to this company for a while, saying they have tried three or four times to rid their child's hair of lice with no luck. Lice Slayers offers the "AirAlle Treatment" which uses a special device to apply heat of about 138 degrees close to the scalp to kill the unwanted visitors and their eggs. In most cases, one treatment, which costs $165, is all it takes to rid an infestation. "They're not going to become resistant to the heat," Shirley said (Rudavsky 40). For Shirley, business has really been nice, having over 100 cases in August. Nevertheless, this is not good news for many people with lice. Today people do all they can to get by with paying for school fees, college, groceries, doctor visits and more. No one has the time or money to be spending ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Head Lice Research Paper Lice are tiny bugs, or parasites, with claws on the ends of their legs. They live on a person's scalp and hair. Lice eggs are also called nits. Having head lice is very common in children. Although having lice can be annoying and make your child's head itchy, it is not dangerous, and lice do not spread diseases. Lice can spread from one person to another. Lice crawl. They do not fly or jump. Because lice spread easily from one child to another, it is important to treat lice and notify your child's school, camp, or daycare. With a few days of treatment, you can safely get rid of lice. A study recently conducted in the United States shows that most head lice have become resistant to over– –the–counter medications, making it harder than ever for people to get rid of the parasites. Essay on A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings The fictional tale entitled A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is an intriguing story which is expressed very well in the title. The story is about just that, an old man with wings. The only aspect that the title fails to point out is that he is an angel. I find the story to be somewhat interesting; however, it isn't exactly hard to put down. The one thing about this story that stands out the most, is the author's use of tone. This is the main aspect of the story that jumps out at you. The usage of tone and detail really works to the story's advantage. The first paragraph alone is filled with descriptions that really set the tone and make you feel like you are there. "On the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some visionaries hoped that he could be put to stud in order to implant on earth a race of winged wise men who could take charge of the universe." At this point in the story, the characters start to wonder if the angel is even going to survive. I feel that this sets a very dark and bleak tone. The angel is lying there, motionless, and all of the people who are around him can only think about themselves. It shows how selfish humans can be when someone or something is dying, and the only reason they care if it lives or not is so they can use it for their own benefit. Meaning, they want to use him for a leader or to bring in money, as the main characters did. Pelayo and Elisenda (main characters) really cashed in on the presence of the Angel. The way that the angel is being used and poorly treated, does a good job of setting the tone in itself. Anyone who imagines this situation is going to imagine it as somewhat of a grim one. • 12. The Lice Short Story A Home for the Lice Have you ever wanted to know why lice chose people and why they chose our hair? Well, I have an explanation for it. I have the story of all of their adventures. It all starts from the beginning of time. From the start, lice have always loved jungle like places. For example, grass. That is where they commenced. They loved it there, they built forts, food storages, and all sorts of things. That is until the bug came around. It had wings the size of the grass and claws the size of three blocks of dirt. This may not sound very big to us humans, but to lice, the size of dust, it was terrifying. Anyways, the bug would raid their forts and destroy everything. So the lice packed up what they had left and went off in search of another place to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That didn't work out because the lips were constantly moving, shaking lice families off to the ground. Also when the women put on lipstick the lice would become trapped in what seemed like quicksand. The lice packed up and went to the nose. Many of the lice adored it there. It was the perfect climate for them. Unfortunately they moved there in the winter when the humans had colds. Sneezes were like a hurricane, runny noses were like mudslides, and a blowing nose was like a tsunami. They shortly decided it wasn't safe for them to live there. Once again they packed up and left. Their next stop was the eyelashes and eyebrows. It wasn't very hairy or concealing, but it had to work for the time being. They quickly found this would not work either. Humans would pluck their eyebrows and pluck the lice out with them. They would also put mascara on their eyelashes causing the lice to be stuck in what felt like tar. The worst part was the crying. The only problem that humans have when it comes to being in the water is that it is physically impossible for someone to stay underwater for an extended period of time. Most humans who are in good health are only able to hold their breaths for about two minutes. The exception to this time is those who breathe pure oxygen prior to attempting to hold their breath. Head Lice : A Growing Problem Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitus) is a growing problem and is a concern throughout the world, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals globally.1 It affects all socioeconomic groups.2 Children aged 3 to 11 are the primary population affected with an estimated 6 to12 million infestations occurring annually in the United States. Family members of those affected also contribute to the number of infestations.1,3 Head lice infestations place a large burden on society. An economic cost of an estimated annual $1 billion is reported in the United States. This cost is attributed to treatment costs, loss of funding to school systems due to excessive absences of students, and lost wages from work missed by caregivers tending to their children.2,4 Affected individuals' quality of life is also impacted. Although head lice is not associated with poor hygiene, it still carries a major stigma along with it.2,3 This is especially true among children in the school setting. As a result, children are ashamed and embarrassed socially.2 Another concern associated with the treatment of head lice is the increasing issue of resistance resulting from the widespread overuse and misuse of conventional pediculicides.1,5–7 Although the exact rates of resistance are not currently available, rates differ between communities and countries.2,5–8 There is an undeniable consensus that the efficacy of many current and first line treatments are failing. Dostoevsky reinforces the multi–faceted nature of humanity with the many gray areas he introduces among his highly complex characters. This concern for metaethics favors moral relativism over moral absolutism. The only element that is universal about humanity is that every human being is complex in their own way. Several fly species such as Oestrus ovis have been reported to cause myiasis, affecting humans either directly, when the female fly deposits the larvae on the conjunctiva or eyelids of a human host rather than a sheep or a goat, or indirectly, through dirty hands. Ocular myiasis presentations include external ophthalmomyiasis, when the larvae is found in the external ocular tissues, leading to ocular surface disorders (conjunctivitis, punctuate keratitis) or pseudoorbital cellulitis, and internal ophthalmomyiasis, a rare condition with a clinical course ranging from asymptomatic to severe uveitis, retinal detachment and optic atrophy. • 26. Analysis Of To A Louse By Robert Burns Itchy, tiny, and crawly are words that people use to describe a louse, but Robert Burns's poem "To a Louse" tells a different story. Although this poem has a rough exterior, the story should not be overlooked just because of the different writing style. The poem begins by telling the story of a little louse peeking out of a sophisticated woman's bonnet. The third person feels that this low life louse does not belong with a classy lady, but he should be among the beggars. Then, the poem ends pointing out that the woman is being acknowledged by the bug on her bonnet and not by her looks. The poem ends with a message in the last stanza saying "To see oursels as ithers see us!" (Burns). Understanding the summary of the poem, the story can be further explored by looking at the background and literary devices. In evaluating this poem, one can gain an insight on the historical context, irony, and how this literary device affects the audience's thoughts. Robert Burns uses this poem to give the reader an awareness of his life as a poor Scott at the time. This unique style of language was thought to be a result of Burns's upbringing. Around the time the poem was written, 1784 to 1786 Robert Burns struggled economically with his fam and used poetry as a distraction (Shairp). David Sampson in The Modern Language Review writes "Initially his low birth and, in particular, his lack of a liberal education were regarded as disadvantages for which allowance had to be made in criticism" (24). Robert Burns was someone with a low social class that many believed was why he writes in this style, but rather than being a disadvantage, people saw this as a way for Burns to be original and not influenced by poets prior to him (Sampson 25). This childhood could be a reason of why he points out the woman in gauze and lace to be vain. An article in the Scottish Literary Review writes "She also conveys a strong impression of Burns's own thoughts about this process of poetic development, seeing in him 'an extraordinary instance of class–anger, class–denial and class–bargaining on a grand scale'" (Andrews). • 27. The Characteristics Of The Appearance Of Humans And Humans Millions of years ago, humans and animals were extremely similar in their appearance. We shared many characteristics but the one that stood out the most was our abundance of hair. However, as time went on, humans evolved in their physical appearance and we started to lose most of the hair on our bodies. We are now bare and naked compared to how we were, especially compared to animals. Most of an animal's body is completely covered in hair and it serves as a layer of protection from foreign bodies that can harm it's skin. Factors such as harmful sun rays and parasites can take a toll on an animal's well–being and that is why their hair is a significant barrier. Also, for instance, when it is awfully cold in some parts of the world, the animal's fur is the only thing preventing them from freezing to death. For example, the Artic fox, commonly known as the white fox, lives in the Artic regions in the North. It gets so cold in the winter, that if the fox did not have it's alabaster fur, it would not be able to withstand it. Not only are animals' furs a protective layer, but they are a distinctive characteristic that sets some of them apart from the rest. A few examples, would be the spotted pattern of a cheetah or the black and white stripes of a zebra. These specific patterns help them to camouflage themselves against any prey or predator and even to help recognize one from the other. I think this is such an interesting characteristic that these animals have and it gives them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Head Lice Research Paper Pediculus humanus capitis, also known as head lice, has been infesting the heads of humans for hundreds of thousands of years. Head lice are different than other types of lice, in that head lice do not spread diseases (4). Infestation can happen to anyone of any age; although elementary school aged, female children are most likely to contract head lice (1,2,3,4,5,6). The only host to head lice is humans (4). House pets do not spread head lice (1). Head lice is usually spread by head to head contact. Less often they are spread by items such as combs, brushes, hats or scarves (1). The legs prevent the "grabbing" on to the hard surface of such items as combs and brushes (4). Contrary to stereotypical belief, personal hygiene, economic status and income do not contribute to the contracting of head lice (1). Although poor sanitization and hygiene, overly crowded living arrangements, and those living at or below the poverty level, lead to the survival of head lice. Proper education from school nurses can aid in the prevention and control of head lice infestations (2). Head lice can have some contributing qualities. Evolutionary biologists are using head lice to investigate the evolution of humans and primates (8). Adult head lice are approximately 2–3 millimeters long. They move by crawling around the scalp. Analysis Of A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings When one thinks of an angel, they think of a beautiful, angelic creature clothed in white, with dazzling wings, a holy being floating gracefully through the air. On the contrary, in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children (AVOMWEW) written by Gabriel GarcГ a MГЎrquez, Pelayo and Elisenda, along with their sick child, live very closely to the ocean surrounded by pesky crabs. They believe that the smell from the crabs is causing their child's sickness. After killing many crabs, Pelayo walks outside to find a very old man with enormous wings covered in mud, who they believe to be an angel. The next day, upon the arrival of the townspeople, Pelayo and Elisenda have an idea to charge the townspeople five cents to see the angel. As soon as they started gaining great wealth, however, their situation began to decline, as the townspeople got bored of the angel and left to see the little girl who had turned into a spider for disobeying her parents. Soon the townspeople began to leave, therefore causing the couple to stop gaining money, thus leading to their downfall. However, they were surrounded by many riches, therefore not affecting them as much. Much to the relief of the couple, several years later the old man flies away. One can argue that the old man in AVOMWEW was not intended to be an angel, but MГЎrquez makes it pretty clear that he is an angel because the old man cured the child, bestowed great riches on Pelayo and Elisenda and the old man also contains the ... • 33. Head Lice : Providing Effective Education For Children And... Head Lice: Providing Effective Education to Children and Families Pediculus humanus capitis is the medical term given to the ever so common head lice found on many school age children, generally between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. Head lice is found only on humans and typically any time of the year, however the incidence rate is highest between the months of August and November (Price, Burkhart, Burkhart, & Islam, 1999). Contrary to popular belief, the wingless parasites do not jump from one host to another. The school nurse plays an important role in discovering the infestation and effectively educating the family of the child to ensure successful results with treatment and elimination. Most importantly the school nurse must be particularly sensitive to the child's feelings regarding lice and avoid excluding the child from any activities to prevent shaming from their peers and overall feelings of embarrassment (Price et al., 1999). Question How can the school nurse better educate children as well as their family members about head lice and ways to help prevent or successfully treat infestations? ... • 35. Prevention and Policy about Head Lice PREVENTION Avoid head to head contact; do not share combs, brushes, headwear, and towels; do not lie down on beds, pillows, or couches used by a person with head lice. Check and comb your child's head at least once a week to prevent a full–blown infestation. Support school policies that do not allow children with lice or nits to attend school. HEALTH CONCERNS Lice are not dangerous and they do not spread any disease, but they are very contagious and irritating. The lice bites can cause excessive scratching that can result in secondary skin infection. An itchy child could lose sleep, be shunned, or find it harder to concentrate at school. Treatments can involve harmful chemical, are exhausting and time consuming. SCHOOL POLICIES Some schools – including in California – shift to lenient policies regarding students with lice. Since head lice are not considered a health hazard, children with lice are allowed to attend school, so they will not miss classes. Parents are not notified when lice are found on children in class to avoid embarrassment and protect privacy. This approach can result in more severe lice outbursts. We can only hope that it is not taken to the extreme. Reference List: CA Department of Public Health (2012, September). Head Lice. • 36. Summary Of To A Louse By Robert Burns Robert Burns wrote the poem "To a Louse" in 1786, in Scotland, that emphasizes the social constructs of man and as well as man's vanity. Burns then goes on in further detail to explain the artificial concept of social class and perspective of the individual in society. He does this by describing one day sitting in church where he is behind gorgeous young noble woman while a louse is crawling upon her silken bonnet. The lady is completely oblivious to the fact that the louse is upon her bonnet while everyone sitting in the pews nearby point and wink with one another at the appearance of the louse. Through this ridiculous and humorous poem Burns is highlighting the vanity of human nature and the artificial construct of social class through his own eyes that he is seeing in eighteenth century Scotland. In the poem, the reader finds Burns sitting in his pew in church where he notices a louse, a small wingless insect sometimes called lice or fleas, crawling upon the bonnet of a young and elegant lady in the seat in front of him. At this point in the poem Burns is surprised that the louse would dare set his feet upon such a fine lady rather than that of a beggar or vagabond in the streets, where a louse would normally be found. Here Burns then goes on to describe the louse as "Detested, shunn'd, by saunt (saint) an' sinner" and more usually associated with the likes of the lower class, such as beggars and slaves, and not the upper class from which the lady is from, according to "The Bard: Robert Burns, a Biography" by Robert Crawford. Burns then begins to admire the bravado and courage of the louse as he makes the trek up the noble lady's bonnet. Where Burns then turns his attention to the elegant lady whom he calls "Jenny." Which he then tells her not to shake her head in an air of pride as she is completely unaware of the humorous effect that the sight of the louse has upon all of the people nearby. As Burns watches those around him take notice of this spectacle in front of him he wishes that the supreme power of God would give us the ability to see ourselves as others see us. Thus, riding ourselves of our pride, vanity, and misconceptions in one another created by the human construct of class in society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Ddt : A Highly Effective Insecticide Kills Mosquito, Louse... Abstract: Introduction: DDT is a highly effective insecticide kills mosquito, louse and other crop pests. Thus, it was widely used in the United States, Western Europe and some Asian countries to promote the prosperity of agriculture and to control epidemic typhus, malaria and other insect–borne infectious diseases during the World War II.DDT reached its peak demand in 1950s and 1980s, when more than 40,000 tons DDT were used worldwide each year. Although some scientists had concern about the extensive use of the pesticide, public kept ignoring DDT's harm until 1962, when Rachel Carson published Silent Spring – a book that pointed out occurrence of toxicological problems and emphasized insecticides, including DDT, were chief culprits of the problems (Carson, 1962). Silent Spring aroused a hot debate controverting the common view at that time that these chemicals were harmless. This contestation jeopardized some people – including the companies that produce DDT, scientist who recommended the chemicals and some other economists – and under the pressure from public, President Kennedy asked his scientific advisors for a report and Congress held hearings on federal regulation of pesticides (Dunlap, 1981). In 1972, EPA banned DDT from civilian using. Scandinavian Peninsula, U.S. and Canada were the first countries responded and started prohibit DDT; sooner, the ban against DDT extended to most of the Western European countries.
