Harry Potter Monomyth
Base on Joseph Campbell's 17 Stages of the Monomyth the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone includes quite a few stages.
The Call to Adventure: The Call to Adventure present itself in chapter 4 The Keeper of the Keys
when Hagrid arrives at the shack. Before Hagrid's arrival Harry Potter was a normal boy living in a
normal world. However, that is until he is informed about Hogwarts, his famous parents. the fact
that he is a wizard and famous himself. The Call to Adventure becomes clearer when he finally
receives the acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Originally Harry
was supposed to attend Stonewall High now he will have to leave what he once knew and venture
into the unknown(wizard world.)
__
Refusal of the Call: Harry refused the call when he didn't think he could be a wizard. "I think you
must have made a mistake. I don't think I can be a wizard." It was all too surreal for him from living
half of his life as an average teenage boy bullied by his family to finding out he is a wizard. It was
hard for him to grasp. His reaction is normal in a sense, but the way he reacted was due to his
insecurity. In his mind, how can he be a wizard if he couldn't protect himself(perform magic) from
his Uncle Vernon, Dudley, and Aunt Petunia.

According to this stage it occurs when the protagonist " leaves the known limits of his or her world
and venturing into an unknown and dangerous realm." When Harry goes to Diagon Alley he leaves
the world he once knew. Harry and Hagrid go to Gringotts Wizarding Bank Gringotts is located
"Deep under the Underground." Not only is it ran by goblins the vaults are guarded by a dragon this
is an essential part of the story. Harry Potter goes from living in a ordinary world with Muggles to
entering a world with not only witches, wizards, but goblins, unicorns, phoenixes, and

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Harry Potter
Escaping from a man eating cyclops is no easy task, and neither is fighting the Dark Lord himself.
Odysseus is a very intelligent and motivated man who is the King of Ithaca. He fights in the Trojan
war but gets stuck sailing on the sea searching for his way home. Harry Potter is also a very
intelligent boy. At a very young age his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort attempted
to kill Harry too, but failed, making Harry the boy who lived. On Harry's 11th birthday, he received
many letters inviting him to attend Hogwarts, a School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A man named
Hagrid comes to take him and that is where Harry's journey begins. They are pretty similar, but in
some ways they differ. Some similarities are that they use their wits and strengths to get their way
through problems, and they both have a desire to see their family. But they also differ in the way that
their goals are completely different, Odysseus wants to get home to Ithaca, and Harry wants to stay
as far away from his "home," with the Dursleys as possible. So they use their brain as a problem
solver, they have a longing for their family, but they both want to go in a different direction.
First off, Odysseus and Harry both use their wits. In the story of Odysseus, he is stuck sailing on the
sea. He comes face to face with many dangerous and terrifying obstacles, and during every obstacle
he has to survive whilst using his knowledge. One big part of the story is when Odysseus and his

Draco Malfoy Essay
Draco Malfoy hated Christmas. He hated it with a burning passion, and about this time every year,
the fire was ignited again. It was December 1st. A wonderful day, had you asked any other
Londoner, but to Draco Malfoy all of December was nothing more than a month of greediness and
lies.
Ever since he was little, this beloved holiday had meant absolutely nothing to him. The mansion he
lived in was decorated and filled to the top with ornaments and tinsel, but it felt emptier than ever.
His parents were generous, sure, but only as far as Christmas gifts went. Love was a luxury in the
Malfoy Manor. At least that's what his father used to say. But Draco loved him regardless, and had
he been a little boy, he'd long for Christmas morning when he'd finally get a hug from ... Show more

An unusual sight, since most of his meals were usually cooked by a professional.
"No thanks, mother. I've no appetite." He called back, before heading to his room to make sure the
letter was real and not just a dream.
He read it again. And again. And again. He lost track of how many times he'd read it and suddenly,
he knew it by heart. He could only imagine what kind of blokes Potter had invited. Ron Weasley
was surely coming, and that Hermione Granger girl they both hang out with was definitely welcome
as well. Draco hoped there would be students from the drama department there, like Luna
Lovegood, or perhaps Dean Thomas. Pansy Parkinson would also be delightful to have there, or
Blaise with his wit. But Draco knew not to be too hopeful. Potter couldn't invite everyone, after all.
Right as he was about to put the letter down, he remembered something. The note. He turned, what
seemed to be an empty envelope, upside–down and out came a small, neatly folded piece of paper
that landed on his lap. He was far too eager to see whom he'd be Christmas shopping for, and
anxiously opened the note.

Movie Like Ghostbusters And Harry Potter Essay
Growing up it is common to come across some kind of superhero that completely fascinates us, not
only do we try to mimic their appearance but also the high moral standards they live by. This can
range from only fighting evil, always being polite to the most important factor, consistently saving
the day. Now this action does not have an age limit, superhero fanatics range from all ages, shapes
and sizes this is shown to be true every Halloween and of course comic con. Among today's society
the fixation over an extraordinary human overcoming all adversities and obstacles for the simple
purpose of defending human kind has begun to increase over the years. Films like Ghostbusters and
Harry Potter to name a few reflect just that, this concept is known as the "hero myth."
Overshadowing an indirect correlation to society with the use of the "hero myth" further projects the
tangent the public creates when confronted with unexplainable evils of their own.
Superheros, we are constantly seeing different variation of them on the big screen, but the concept
hero myth brings them all together. Now what exactly is the Hero Myth , In the book "Sings of Life
in the USA" by Sonia Massik and Jack Solomon, a women by the name of Linda Seger provides the
infamous concept of the hero myth. In the section "Creating the Myth", she explains what Hero
Myth is; to Seger the idea of a myth hero is incorporated in all movies in which a hero stars in.

The most influential book I have ever read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K.
Rowling. This book was the most impactful book I have read because of all of the people, fantasy
worlds, and adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to learn about a world filled with brave souls
and passionate, kind people. Through all the struggles Harry Potter and his friends, Ron Weasley
and Hermione Granger, faced they stayed loyal to each other and were courageous through all the
difficult predicaments. Additionally, many characters J.K. Rowling created are great role models to
all. An especially significant role model is the character Hermione Granger because of her brilliant
and logical thinking skills in pressured situations. Hermione taught

Although Steven Spielberg initially negotiated to direct the first film, he declined the offer.[13]
Spielberg wanted the adaptation to be an animated film, with American actor Haley Joel Osment to
provide Harry Potter 's voice.[14] Spielberg contended that, in his opinion, there was every
expectation of profit in making the film, and that making money would have been like "shooting
ducks in a barrel. It 's just a slam dunk. It 's just like withdrawing a billion dollars and putting it into
your personal bank accounts. There 's no challenge".[15] In the Rubbish Bin section of her website,
Rowling maintains that she has no role in choosing directors for the films, writing "Anyone who
thinks I could (or would) have 'veto–ed ' him [Spielberg] needs their Quick–Quotes Quill serviced."
[16] After Spielberg left, talks began with other directors, including: Chris Columbus, Terry Gilliam,
Jonathan Demme, Mike Newell, Alan Parker, Wolfgang Petersen, Rob Reiner, Tim Robbins, Brad
Silberling, and Peter Weir.[17] Petersen and Reiner both pulled out of the running in March 2000.
[18] It was then narrowed down to Silberling, Columbus, Parker and Gilliam.[19] Rowling 's first
choice was Terry Gilliam.[20] However on 28 March 2000 Columbus was appointed as director of
the film, with Warner Bros. citing his work on other family films such as Home Alone and Mrs

Rubeus Hagrid Character Analysis
Rubeus Hagrid "I would trust Hagrid with my life." (J.K. Rowling 14) In the story of Harry Potter
and the Sorcerer's Stone holds a magical world with witches and wizards performing all sorts of
magic. Questions would often peak into my train of thought like: why would one of the greatest
wizards like Albus Dumbledore praise a half giant? Why would the mighty Dumbledore, whom
You–Know–Who fears of, befriend and cherish a student that was expelled? Why would
Dumbledore allow him to stay and live on school grounds? There are many questions regarding
Rubeus Hagrid. These questions are all answered with the same solution. It is because Hagrid is
viewed to be as the most valuable wizard at Hogwarts. He is a terrific friend, he gives vital advice or
information, and he is a suitable father figure for Harry. Firstly, Hagrid is a dependable and loyal
friend especially towards Dumbledore. Once you get through his intimidating exterior, he is a caring

An instance where he conveyed his traits is when he brought Harry a cake on his birthday.
Additionally, he bought him a snow owl that he soon named Hedwig as his birthday present. Hagrid
is truly the first person to celebrate his birthday. Not to mention, Hagrid brought Harry to the
wizarding world, he helped Harry buy his supplies, he frequently advices and meets with Harry
every break, and made a scrapbook of Harry's parents. As you cane see, Hagrid is consistent in
Harry's life meaning that Hagrid is always there for him like, to see him ride the train to and from
the muggle world. Even when they left baby Harry at the Dursley's door, Hagrid was the only one
who showed tears and gave him a kiss good–bye. An important detail why he is an appropriate
father figure is because he was always there to help Harry. As an anonymous person quoted "A
father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
"A giant of a man was standing in the doorway. His face was almost completely hidden by a long,
shaggy mane of hair and a wild tangled beard, but you could make out his eyes, glinting like black
beetles under all the hair" (pg 46). The previous passage is a wonderful and tasteful description of
the first introduction of Hagrid from J. K. Rowling's novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
This book gives intimate detail and overwhelming amounts of vivid description into the characters,
settings and conflicts that arise in the book. If there is are aspects to really note about Harry Potter it

Although, the Dursley's don't treat Harry quite like Mr. Pelzer's mother treated him, I still could see
large amounts of similarity between. The Dursleys make Harry sleep in a small cupboard under the
stairs and they are constantly telling him how useless, weird and disgusting he is. Parallel to that,
David's bed growing up was an old army cot in the basement and his clothes were torn and raunchy.
Harry was in some ways the Dursley's slave because he was forced to do anything they demanded
from him. David Pelzer's was his mother's slave also he was forced to work all the time and do
anything his mother said.
Since, Harry grew up in such a horrible environment with the Dursleys and his confidence and self–
dignity was constantly stomped on, he in turn, before going to Hogwarts, was very insecure and
unsure about himself. But, as the story progresses and Harry learns about himself and the things he
never thought he could fathom, he becomes a stronger and more confident individual. In fact his
first game of Quidditch, Harry wins the game for his team and his house. As a result of the positive
reinforcement and self gratification of winning the game he becomes stronger and much more
confident about what he can do.
Along with his success and triumphs, Harry begins to grow many strong friendships with many
different people at Hogwarts. Upon leaving his life with the Dursleys, Harry is put into a whole
different world at his

Harry Potter Heroic Monomyth Essay
Books and movies, young and old, generally follow the same path. This path is called heroic
monomyth in which the hero undergoes many tasks and is most likely accompanied by a friend and
meets new trials along the way. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling,
the character Harry Potter displays multiple counts of heroic monomyth through the call to
adventure, supernatural aid, and crossing the threshold. In the novel, the call to adventure is present
in multiple ways. First, an unusual letter shows up at the Dursley's home one day. This letter, unlike
all of the other letters and various mail, was addressed to Harry Potter. "Yet here it was, a letter,
addressed so plainly there could be no mistake..." (Rowling 34). It was also made of strange
parchment paper, and signed in emerald which made it stand out. This letter was calling Potter to

Potter's supernatural aid would be considered Rubeus Hagrid, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
Granger and Weasley are Potter's closest friends throughout the whole novel. They are in his house,
Gryffindor, and they help him along his quest. One example of how they aid him through the
journey is when they help Harry Potter to get to the sorcerer's stone before professor Snape can.
Potter tells them that it is okay if they want to stay behind and maybe they even should, but Weasley
contradicts Potter by saying, "Oh, come off it, you don't think we'd let you go alone" (Rowling 271).
Granger then agrees with Weasley and Potter allows them to come along and help them to get
through the six obstacles leading to the sorcerer's stone. "The door was hit with such force that it
swung clean off its hinges and with a defeating crash landed flat on the floor. A giant man was
standing in the doorway" (Rowling 47) Hagrid is an enormous person who is powerful. He uses his

Inspiration can strike at any moment and can come from various sources. Literary writers and
songwriters alike have admitted a source of inspiration for them comes from their own lives. Joanne
Rowling, also referred to as J.K., is no different. If J.K. Rowling had not experienced her mother's
death and the events which occurred after it, then Harry Potter would not be the phenomenon it is
today.
J.K. Rowling's Past
Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire, England to Peter and
Anne Rowling (Harmon, 2003). Her childhood is what many would consider to be normal. She had
parents who loved her and had all of life's necessities, food and shelter. In 1990 Rowling's life began

Hermione Granger, Deloris Umbridge, and Ron Weasely were all inspired by Rowling's past.
Rowling has said that Hermione reminds her of her 11–year–old self, (Magic, Mystery, and
Mayhem, n.d.). While in grade school Rowling self–identified as a studious yet stubborn individual,
much like Hermione. Both ladies also attended a public school unlike many of those around them.
Their dedication to scholastics made them stand out and become an easy target for bullying.
(Harmon, 2003) Hermione serves as a reminder to Rowling of the person she once was and someone
whom she wishes all females to be.
One of the most insufferable characters in the series, Deloris Umbridge, was inspired by a teacher
Rowling had. While much information has yet to be revelied about the connection between a former
teacher of Rowling and Umbridge, fans where privileged to a few morsels of information. In an
article Rowling published on Pottermore she described her dreadful teacher as being someone she
disliked from a first glance. As the article continues readers learn that Umbridge's various twee
outfits and accessories were dreamt up from Rowling's teacher as well. (Reuters, 2014; Ross, 2014)

Three Little Words: The Compelling Autobiography of Ashley...
"Sunshine, you're my baby and I'm your only mother. You must listen to the one taking care of you,
but she's not your mama. Never forget, I'm the only mama who will love you forever and ever."
Ashley Rhodes Courter's mom had told her.
Ashley Rhodes–Courter was only three years old when she was separated from her mother. She
spent the next nine years bouncing from one foster family to another. Her mother, Lorraine, was
only twenty years old, and she was also too young to take responsibilities for her two children.
However, Ashley grew up earning straight "A's" in her classes; she won a world–wide Harry Potter
essay contest in New York, as well as many others. She was born in South Carolina, and later was
taken to her first foster family in Florida. The closest family member she was kept with was her
step–brother Luke, who didn't share the same father. Later on, when Ashley was eleven years old,
she got a new step–sister, who did not share the same father as she and Luke.
The book grew from an essay that Ashley wrote for a competition in which students were asked to
write a moment in their lives which they learned something about themselves The most noteworthy
achievement of the subject in the book, Three Little Words is when Ashley got a home after being in
foster homes for a long period of time. She has spent at least ten years in foster care; which includes

The period of the book is an unspecified time, modern and roughly up–to–date. The story of Harry
Potter came to J. K. Rowling on a train ride from Manchester to London in 1990. She was a single
mother of a daughter and living on welfare in Edinburgh, Scotland, when she began to write the
novel. She began writing in a café while her baby, Jessica, napped. Rowling soon shot up to fame
and fortune.

The genre is a fantasy tale, the tone is to–the–point and simple. The language is easy to understand.
The narrator never inflicts judgments on any characters, even the cruel, evil, Lord Voldemort, but
allows us full independence to admiration or condemnation.
Provide significant details about the author:
J.K. Rowling went from being jobless and living on state welfares to becoming a multi–millionaire
in five years. Rowling was diagnosed with clinical depression which she implies gave her
inspiration to create the Dementors in the Harry Potter series. She also suffers from insomnia which
she says is due to late work nights. Joanne Rowling was born without having a middle name. When
she was in the process of publishing Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone, her publisher, Barry

then chose 'K' for Kathleen, the name of her grandmother.

The Effect Of Maternal Separation On Voldemort And Harry...
The effect of maternal separation on Voldemort, Harry Potter and other characters in the wizardry
world.
By Do Nhat Nam
Throughout the world of Harry Potter, the power of maternal love has been portrayed as being vital
and tremendous. From Harry Potter's mother sacrificing herself for Harry's life to Molly Weasley
defending her daughter – Ginny Weasley's life in the Hogwarts battle, the role of a mother has
always been that of a guardian angel that is willing to sacrifice her life for her daughter or son.
Without maternal love through infancy, one would lack a sense of attachment, face trouble
establishing relationships and grasping the concept of affection during adolescence and adulthood.
Most Harry Potter characters were blessed with a mother, yet the two grand protagonist and
antagonist – Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort are two exceptions. Both of their mothers, Lily Potter
and Merope Gaunt, passed away at their infancy, yet while Harry Potter became great and righteous,
Lord Voldemort became the most notorious Dark wizard of all time – one whose heart lacked
compassion, who reeks with hatred and consumed in rage. In this essay, we will compare and
contrast the effect of the lack of maternal influence on both Voldemort and Harry Potter, and also the
importance of maternal love on different characters in the wizardry world.
I. Love vs. No love
Even though both of their mothers died from their infancy, Harry and Voldemort's mothers died in
very different circumstances.

Misogynistic Gender Roles In Harry Potter
In their article, "Cinderfella: J.K. Rowling's Wily Web of Gender", Gallardo and Smith argue that
"by offering a proactive feminist interpretation" they will show that "there are alternative radical
readings of the series for both children and adults" (191). They use several criteria to prove their
point by showing that the story of the hero Harry Potter is a "cyclical" feminine narrative (191).
They show this by presenting that the plot moves from a "passive" and difficult home life into the
"active" world of Hogwarts and back again repeatedly (191). This format is used in strictly
traditional "girl tales" such as the historic story of the heroine Cinderella which has been retold in
over 700 versions (195). The series presents misogynistic gender roles for most of the female
characters such as Petunia Dursley, Molly Weasley, and the departed Lily Potter who all represent
reclusive homemakers without much power (193–4). The series does portray Hermione Granger,
Professor Sibyll Trelawney, and Professor Minerva McGonagall who are women with a voice abate
an emotional one (192–4). The female characters are shown at most as rule enforcers while "the
male characters of the series seem more fun, mostly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harry also possesses marvelous mastery over typically feminine symbols of witchcraft such as the
broom, black robes with a pointed hat, a wand and pewter cauldron (197). He also excels in
typically feminine subjects such as herbology and divination courses at Hogwarts (197). The very
symbol of the healed wound worn by Harry as his ever–visible forehead lightning bolt scar can be
properly attributed to the vulnerable and "opened 'feminine' body" as well as the "union of weapon
and wound" which show a unification of the feminine and masculine character

Compare And Contrast Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows
"Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in on another still.... love and live
in that which is omnipresent.... they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This
is the comfort of friends... though they may be said to die... their friendship and society are... ever

Hollows is J.K. Rowling's seventh book in the Harry Potter series. The series is about a young
wizard, Harry Potter, who has traveled and learned things that will help him defeat his archenemies,
The Dark Lord. In this novel, there are two sides to the story: the good side with Harry Potter and
his friends, and the evil side with Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hollows is the final novel in a seven book series, about the fight between good and evil. In
this novel, Ron Weasely is on the 'good side' of the battle, while Draco Malfoy is on the 'evil side.'
Their relationship is similar to the Biblical relationship of Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot; they are in
a battle of their own. Every corner they turn, new temptations face them and taunt them to do evil,
or act against it and do what is good. Ron Weasely and Jesus Christ are faced with difficult

`` Religion : The Basics `` By Malory Nye And The...
While watching "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", many theories mentioned in Malory
Nye's novel "Religion: The Basics" were subtly included. The overall message of this film as well as
particular scene will be analyzed to identify some of the theories, which would relate with this film.
Characters from the movie went through a rite of passage, a theory said by Arnold Van Gennep, the
reductionist theory, the cognitive and effective belief by Gombrich, and the Habitus theory by Pierre
Bourdieu, were some of the theories identified in the film. When looking at these particular events
in the film, this film essentially underlies how religion can be in non–religious things, which would
include movies.
In this film, Harry Potter experiences the three stages of the rite of passage by Arnold Van Gennep.
In the first stage, separation, the participant is identified to be symbolically departed from their old
self, "the person is detached from the roles and obligations that have been associated with their lives
up until that time" (Nye 2008, 146). This stage begins for Harry when Rubeus Hagrid arrives at
Harry's home and convinces Harry to attend the "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry".
Hagrid informs Harry about his family history, and gets Harry to comply when he says "Best be
off". After Harry realizes that he has the chance to get away from his abusive lifestyle, he leaves
with Hagrid to attend Hogwarts. The second stage of Gennep's theory is liminality. In this

the Half–Blood Prince, Harry's quest is to discover Voldemort's path by looking through the
Pensieve and discovers Voldemort put his soul in things called Horcruxes. Harry must also
accompany Albus Dumbledore to destroy one of Voldemort's Horcruxes in the caves. After they get
to the caves Harry must save Dumbledore's life after he drinks poison. Harry must then fight

Analysis Of The Book ' Harry Potter '
Abstract
In this paper I did research throughout all seven books of J.K Rowling's Harry Potter Series. Many
people have different opinions as to what was Ms. Rowling's true theme was towards this series.
Some may say that it is; Good V.S Evil, Coming of Age, Death, or Friendship. They always forget
that the main theme is Love. Rowling portrayed the theme of the book through her characters
personality and how love changed everybody life. Throughout her series there were series of
different type of love going one. Some may include Sacrificial Love, Unconditional Love, Love
Hate, Love turning evil good. Since Harry really never had love showed towards him in life because
he lived with his Uncles, Aunt, and cousins who are muggles. Moving to Hogwarts he was showed
lots of love. This love helped Harry destroy evil at its worst and help him protect the ones he love.
Even though it was plenty of sacrificial death going on in this series, it was all for the right reasons,
protecting the ones they love.
Keywords: Muggles; Love; Sacrificial Love, Unconditional Love, Love Hate
J.K Rowling featured her series for Harry Potter around love and hate. She wanted to prove that
Love is stronger than hatred. J.K Rowling proves to us that although evil cheats and tries to take
over, love can conquer all. She shows that love is a force that is more formidable than any other. J.K

Food Is Like Steak Dinners With Red Wine
Food is something that plays a central role in day–to–day life. Whether it is being used solely as a
tool for survival or being consumed for pleasure, it is constantly sought after and thought about.
Despite this, it is rarely given much more thought than that. While there are certain implications that
come with various types of meals, they are very forthright with the meanings. Meals like steak
dinners with red wine are viewed as romantic and passionate, while dishes like instant noodles
appear cheap and lazy. In literature, however, food is used with much more subtlety. It may not
always play a central role, but food acts as a metaphorical mirror in that it reflects various aspects of
the story back at the reader. This includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . through Harry's . . . accounts" (200) This illustrates the rift between Harry's life at Hogwarts and
his life with the Dursleys. Back at Privet Drive, Harry has food taken away as a punishment
(Rowling 26), and "[while] the Dursleys had never exactly starved Harry . . . he'd never been
allowed to eat as much as he liked. Dudley had always taken anything that Harry really wanted"
(92). At Hogwarts, Harry gets to eat whatever he pleases, in any amount he wants. He no longer has
to spend time "sneaking to the kitchen for some food" (27). This disparity imparts a deep and
meaningful impact on readers, ensuring that Hogwarts is imagined as a wholesome and wonderful
place while Privet Drive is seen as lacklustre and unfulfilling.
Dining can be extremely gratifying, as consuming food is a very sensory experience. This means,
however, that it can be unsatisfying and lacking in various aspects as well. When a meal is visibly
inadequate, it tends to invoke an emotional response. Eating or even just seeing a small,
disappointing meal can make an individual feel sombre, morose, and even melancholic. Because
food can impart such a response, it is used in literature as a reflection of the intended mood of a
passage. Rowling frequently uses this technique, ensuring that the reader has specific feelings when
reading certain passages. When Vernon Dursley packs the family up to escape the onslaught of

The appearance of Hagrid with a birthday cake has two depth meaning helping Harry to figure out
his truth life. Firstly, the cake shows that there are someone out there still caring for Harry; secondly,
it represents the time for Harry to know the truth about himself and his parent's history in the wizard
place, where he truly belongs to. Not to mention Hagrid is a stranger, yet, he cares deeply for Harry
more than anyone else and feel furious how the Dursley's family treats Harry like a servant. The
author demonstrates a great example that the Dursley's family is neither to feel sympathy for Harry's
life nor the loss of his parents when he was just a baby, instead of treating equally like Dudley. Thus,
the first meeting between Hagrid and Harry help him to discover his life and are not only the process

While studying at school, Harry gets to meet more people, including the good and the bad ones.

Similarities Between Beowulf And Harry Potter
It is truly amazing to compare and contrast literature from today with literature from centuries ago,
and find out just how similar they can be even though they are so different. Two stories that display
this relationship very clearly are The Mwindo Epic and Harry Potter. Both of these stories have
many similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities, and
so much more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely different
plots, such as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo's attacker is his own father, while in Harry
Potter, his attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. For these stories to be separated by so
many years, it is quite interesting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nyamwindo, Mwindo's mother, tries to hide her son from Shemwindo for obvious reasons.
Unfortunately, a cricket tells Shemwindo about Mwindo and he decides to kill him. He tries three
times, first by throwing spears at him, then burying him alive, and finally he seals him in a drum and
dumps him into a river. If this isn't bad enough, the river that Mwindo is floating down happens to
lead to the pool of Mukiti, and he eventually ends up there. Mukiti challenges Mwindo, but Iyangura
saves him from the drum. Kasiyembe also attempts to kill Mwindo but is unsuccessful. Mwindo had
a rough infancy where many different people tried to kill him for no reason, much like Harry Potter.
Harry Potter also deals with many different people trying to kill him as a child. The first time this
happened was when he was still an infant and Voldemort kills his mother and father, and ultimately
tries to kill him. Just like Mwindo, Voldemort is unsuccessful, and Harry is safe for many years.
Throughout his childhood he is safe, but when he returns to the wizarding world, he is in constant
danger, and Voldemort, along with his followers, attempt to kill Harry. Both of these characters have
a rough infancy and childhood, constantly having people trying to kill them, and this is just another
similarity these two stories have.
One similarity I find particularly interesting between these stories is the fact that both characters
possess magical abilities, and

Harry Potter And The Novel ' The Rye '
The complexity and Rowling's willingness to take on difficult and contemporary issues such as
racism, genocide, classism, and difference – makes Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
uniquely valuable. While both books can be regarded as controversial due to the moral fibre of
them, Catcher in the Rye, captures an adolescent protagonist wavering between childhood and
adulthood. Holden Caulfield, a confused teenager, explores how adult life appears complex and
incomprehensible to teenagers on the brink of entering it. Likewise, Harry Potter focuses on a timid
young boy, unsure of his abilities. While both characters are young and dissatisfied with the world
around them, Harry finds ways to resemble positive change and adjusts to the world surrounding
him. Holden, however, refuses to acknowledge that adulthood scares him, using the 'museum' to
symbolise something that remains unchanged. By the museum representing childhood as a world of
innocence, curiosity and honesty, readers are able to distinguish that adulthood to Holden is a world
of superficiality and hypocrisy and phoniness. (Reference)
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and The Catcher in the Rye both depict bildungsroman. A
bildungsroman being defined as "a novel that recounts the development of an individual from
childhood or adolescence to maturity, to the point at which the protagonist recognizes his or her
place and role in the world" (Murfin & Supryia 39). While Holden Caulfield is an unusual

Informative Speech About Magic
Are you interested in magic? If you are interested in magic, you should read this amazing book
series called Harry Potter. I have been learning about Harry Potter for a couple of years now, and I
love collecting Harry Potter antiques . Do you ever wish you can go on magical adventures and fight
dark lords? If you said yes, keep listening , so I can tell you all the information you will need. Today
I will be talking about Harry Potter, and how he got into Hogwarts ( a wizarding school), what he
likes to study, and what his powers are. To start off let me tell you how Harry Potter got into
Hogwarts. Harry Potter was going to turn 11 in a week. Hogwarts usually gives out letters of
acceptances to kids they think have the ability of magic , or start the ability to have magic. That
means Harry Potter got his letter on July 24, 1991, a week before his birthday. In real life though it
actually is the Britain school law to get a letter by the age of 11. They also accepted Harry when he
was 11 because that is the legal age to get their wands. No muggle, (regular human who got

Harry Potter was interested in Defense Against The Dark Arts. This class teaches you how to defend
yourself from dark, or evil creatures. It also defends you from dark potions, such as the polyjuice

in the 2nd movie, "The Chambers Of Secrets". One interesting thing about this class, is the job being
jinxed, which means it goes from person to person. Harry also like to study Potions. Potions like
"Confusing Concoction ",to make your competitor confused, "Pepper Up" potion is for healing.
"Skele–grow" is to grow any missing bones, isn't that cool? There is also 'Wolfs Bane" to calm down

explains that he and Lupus have tracked down the man responsible for the deaths of Harry's mother

Ron's rat into Peter Pettigrew. He is escorted to Hogwarts but escapes when Lupus unwillingly

save the Hippogriff, Sirius, and Lupus. Unfortunately Peter still manages to escape from the group.
Harry also learns that he successfully repelled the dementor attack before falling unconscious. Harry
changes quite drastically as the story progressed. He gains more determination to fight against the
evil and wrongdoings of the wizarding world. The bond between he and his friends strengthens
immensely. The will to avenge his parents' death also becomes more prominent. Harry ultimately

In some different views Harry is easy to compare with a man named David Pelzer. He was a long–
time survivor of child abuse and author of the book, "A Child Called It". His book is the incredible
story of courage and strength. He had tried to deal to survive with his mother's terrible abuse and
despise towards him Even though, the Dursley's don't treat Harry quite like Mr. Pelzer's mother
treated him, I still could see large amounts of similarity between. The family that Harry is living
with by the name of the Dursley's make Harry sleep in a small cupboard under the stairs and they
are constantly, negatively talking down on him how useless, weird and disgusting he is. David's bed
in the basement was an army cot. His clothes were torn and raunchy. Harry was to an extent the
Dursley's slave, due to harry always being forced to do anything they demanded from him. David
Pelzer's was his mother's slave also he was forced to work all the time and do anything his mother
said.
Since, Harry grew up in such a horrible home with horrible energy, the Dursleys and Harry's
confidence, self–persona was constantly reigned upon before going to Hogwarts. Due to that always
happening Harry was very insecure and unsure about himself. But, as the story moves forward.

Analysis Of Harry Potter And Dumbledore
In this film critique, I will be analyzing the first half of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The
film starts out on Privet Drive in the dark of night emphasizing something dark but important is
about to happen. Dumbledore is standing under a street light and is using magic to put the rest of the
street lights out when he notices a cat, who quickly transforms into Professor McGonagall. The
darkness and low voices emphasize danger and suspense. The character who plays Professor
Dumbledore, Richard Harris, is a perfect because of his voice and composure, he goes along
perfectly with the book! His presence demands respect and his composure makes him seem wise.
The same goes for the Dursley family; Aunt Petunia, Fiona Shaw, is a sharp/crinkle nosed, rude
looking skinny woman, Uncle Vernon, Richard Griffiths, is fat and boastful showing he's a horrible
person, Dudley, Harry Melling, is a short, fat and pig like looking boy his dad with the attitude
combination of both parents, creating a monster of a child. Daniel Ratcliffe is perfect for the part of
Harry Potter because he's small, skinny, you would never suspect anything abnormal by just looking
at him.
Harry lives under the stairs at the Dursley with a lock on the outside of the cabinet and slot just big
enough for a dinner plate. This emphasizes the Dursleys feelings about Harry being there. Harry
receives his first letter from Hogwarts, the look on Uncle Vernons face shows deep concern, almost
like frightened.

Harry Potter Character Analysis
Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature,
But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero.
Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be
taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put
into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book
the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter
Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs.
The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave.
If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave".
There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however
there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion.
Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other
complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand
down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove
how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog",
Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He
shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in
chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom Riddle
from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging the sword
into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just how brave
Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would use to
describe Harry Potter is being kind.
Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter
shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness
we must first truly understand what it truly

Harry Potter was conceived on the 31st of July in 1980 to folks Lily and James Potter. He was

Jk Rowling Research Paper
Kristy McMullen
Reflection #2
10/6/17
Kinder J.K Rowling is an incredibly talented author who has broken barriers for children's books,
and is an inspiration to all authors who come after her. She didn't learn it on her own though, she has
many other literary and cultural influences who helped her story along. We see many literary
comparisons to authors like J.R.R Tolkien and C.S Lewis, and then we see the cultural influence
such as Arthurian legend. In my research, I have found that a lot of her writing has been influenced
by mythology. J.K Rowling herself has a passion for Greek, Roman, and classical mythology, and
has been successful in sneaking it into the Harry Potter series through characters, spells, and even
her magical creatures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
J.K Rowling has even put classical mythology comparisons on her website "Pottermore". Some of
the more obvious connections we see are in the characters of the "Harry Potter" series. For example,
Minerva McGonagall has been compared to Athena, the Greek Goddess of War and Wisdom, who's
Roman name is Minerva. Both women are powerful and independent, and show vast knowledge and
strategy; which McGonagall is able to show us in the final battle at Hogwarts when she quickly
forms a plan to keep Voldemort's army at bay for as long as possible. Another character comparison
is Rubeus Hagrid to Hagrid Rubes. Hagrid Rubes, also known as the "Giant of the Jewels", is a
figure from ancient Greek mythology who was framed for murder by the chief of Gods himself,
Zeus. This can be directly related to Rubeus Hagrid being framed by Tom Riddle for the opening of
the Chamber of Secrets, and for owning the creature who murdered "Moaning" Myrtle. After
Rubeus is expelled from Hogwarts, he is hired by Dumbledore to be caretaker, and eventually Care
of Magical Creatures professor, which is very similar to Hagrid Rubes being allowed by Zeus to
take care of his animals. These two characters, and many others in the series, show so many
similarities to Greek and Roman gods

Harry Potter Monomyth

  • 1. Harry Potter Monomyth Base on Joseph Campbell's 17 Stages of the Monomyth the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone includes quite a few stages. The Call to Adventure: The Call to Adventure present itself in chapter 4 The Keeper of the Keys when Hagrid arrives at the shack. Before Hagrid's arrival Harry Potter was a normal boy living in a normal world. However, that is until he is informed about Hogwarts, his famous parents. the fact that he is a wizard and famous himself. The Call to Adventure becomes clearer when he finally receives the acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Originally Harry was supposed to attend Stonewall High now he will have to leave what he once knew and venture into the unknown(wizard world.) __ Refusal of the Call: Harry refused the call when he didn't think he could be a wizard. "I think you must have made a mistake. I don't think I can be a wizard." It was all too surreal for him from living half of his life as an average teenage boy bullied by his family to finding out he is a wizard. It was hard for him to grasp. His reaction is normal in a sense, but the way he reacted was due to his insecurity. In his mind, how can he be a wizard if he couldn't protect himself(perform magic) from his Uncle Vernon, Dudley, and Aunt Petunia. __ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 2. Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Harry Potter Escaping from a man eating cyclops is no easy task, and neither is fighting the Dark Lord himself. Odysseus is a very intelligent and motivated man who is the King of Ithaca. He fights in the Trojan war but gets stuck sailing on the sea searching for his way home. Harry Potter is also a very intelligent boy. At a very young age his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort attempted to kill Harry too, but failed, making Harry the boy who lived. On Harry's 11th birthday, he received many letters inviting him to attend Hogwarts, a School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A man named Hagrid comes to take him and that is where Harry's journey begins. They are pretty similar, but in some ways they differ. Some similarities are that they use their wits and strengths to get their way through problems, and they both have a desire to see their family. But they also differ in the way that their goals are completely different, Odysseus wants to get home to Ithaca, and Harry wants to stay as far away from his "home," with the Dursleys as possible. So they use their brain as a problem solver, they have a longing for their family, but they both want to go in a different direction. First off, Odysseus and Harry both use their wits. In the story of Odysseus, he is stuck sailing on the sea. He comes face to face with many dangerous and terrifying obstacles, and during every obstacle he has to survive whilst using his knowledge. One big part of the story is when Odysseus and his men get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Draco Malfoy Essay Draco Malfoy hated Christmas. He hated it with a burning passion, and about this time every year, the fire was ignited again. It was December 1st. A wonderful day, had you asked any other Londoner, but to Draco Malfoy all of December was nothing more than a month of greediness and lies. Ever since he was little, this beloved holiday had meant absolutely nothing to him. The mansion he lived in was decorated and filled to the top with ornaments and tinsel, but it felt emptier than ever. His parents were generous, sure, but only as far as Christmas gifts went. Love was a luxury in the Malfoy Manor. At least that's what his father used to say. An unusual sight, since most of his meals were usually cooked by a professional. "No thanks, mother. I've no appetite." He called back, before heading to his room to make sure the letter was real and not just a dream. He read it again. And again. And again. He lost track of how many times he'd read it and suddenly, he knew it by heart. He could only imagine what kind of blokes Potter had invited. Ron Weasley was surely coming, and that Hermione Granger girl they both hang out with was definitely welcome as well. Draco hoped there would be students from the drama department there, like Luna Lovegood, or perhaps Dean Thomas. Pansy Parkinson would also be delightful to have there, or Blaise with his wit. But Draco knew not to be too hopeful. Potter couldn't invite everyone, after all. Right as he was about to put the letter down, he remembered something. The note. He turned, what seemed to be an empty envelope, upside–down and out came a small, neatly folded piece of paper that landed on his lap. He was far too eager to see whom he'd be Christmas shopping for, and anxiously opened the note. Harry Potter (better be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Movie Like Ghostbusters And Harry Potter Essay Growing up it is common to come across some kind of superhero that completely fascinates us, not only do we try to mimic their appearance but also the high moral standards they live by. This can range from only fighting evil, always being polite to the most important factor, consistently saving the day. Now this action does not have an age limit, superhero fanatics range from all ages, shapes and sizes this is shown to be true every Halloween and of course comic con. Among today's society the fixation over an extraordinary human overcoming all adversities and obstacles for the simple purpose of defending human kind has begun to increase over the years. Films like Ghostbusters and Harry Potter to name a few reflect just that, this concept is known as the "hero myth." Overshadowing an indirect correlation to society with the use of the "hero myth" further projects the tangent the public creates when confronted with unexplainable evils of their own. Superheros, we are constantly seeing different variation of them on the big screen, but the concept hero myth brings them all together. Now what exactly is the Hero Myth , In the book "Sings of Life in the USA" by Sonia Massik and Jack Solomon, a women by the name of Linda Seger provides the infamous concept of the hero myth. This book was the most impactful book I have read because of all of the people, fantasy worlds, and adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to learn about a world filled with brave souls and passionate, kind people. Through all the struggles Harry Potter and his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, faced they stayed loyal to each other and were courageous through all the difficult predicaments. Additionally, many characters J.K. Rowling created are great role models to all. An especially significant role model is the character Hermione Granger because of her brilliant and logical thinking skills in pressured situations. Hermione taught ... It 's just a slam dunk. It 's just like withdrawing a billion dollars and putting it into your personal bank accounts. Rowling 14) In the story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone holds a magical world with witches and wizards performing all sorts of magic. Questions would often peak into my train of thought like: why would one of the greatest wizards like Albus Dumbledore praise a half giant? Why would the mighty Dumbledore, whom You–Know–Who fears of, befriend and cherish a student that was expelled? Why would Dumbledore allow him to stay and live on school grounds? There are many questions regarding Rubeus Hagrid. These questions are all answered with the same solution. It is because Hagrid is viewed to be as the most valuable wizard at Hogwarts. He is a terrific friend, he gives vital advice or information, and he is a suitable father figure for Harry. Firstly, Hagrid is a dependable and loyal friend especially towards Dumbledore. This path is called heroic monomyth in which the hero undergoes many tasks and is most likely accompanied by a friend and meets new trials along the way. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, the character Harry Potter displays multiple counts of heroic monomyth through the call to adventure, supernatural aid, and crossing the threshold. In the novel, the call to adventure is present in multiple ways. First, an unusual letter shows up at the Dursley's home one day. This letter, unlike all of the other letters and various mail, was addressed to Harry Potter. "Yet here it was, a letter, addressed so plainly there could be no mistake..." (Rowling 34). One example of how they aid him through the journey is when they help Harry Potter to get to the sorcerer's stone before professor Snape can. Potter tells them that it is okay if they want to stay behind and maybe they even should, but Weasley contradicts Potter by saying, "Oh, come off it, you don't think we'd let you go alone" (Rowling 271). Granger then agrees with Weasley and Potter allows them to come along and help them to get through the six obstacles leading to the sorcerer's stone. • 13. The Effect Of Maternal Separation On Voldemort And Harry... The effect of maternal separation on Voldemort, Harry Potter and other characters in the wizardry world. By Do Nhat Nam Throughout the world of Harry Potter, the power of maternal love has been portrayed as being vital and tremendous. From Harry Potter's mother sacrificing herself for Harry's life to Molly Weasley defending her daughter – Ginny Weasley's life in the Hogwarts battle, the role of a mother has always been that of a guardian angel that is willing to sacrifice her life for her daughter or son. Without maternal love through infancy, one would lack a sense of attachment, face trouble establishing relationships and grasping the concept of affection during adolescence and adulthood. Most Harry Potter characters were blessed with a mother, yet the two grand protagonist and antagonist – Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort are two exceptions. Both of their mothers, Lily Potter and Merope Gaunt, passed away at their infancy, yet while Harry Potter became great and righteous, Lord Voldemort became the most notorious Dark wizard of all time – one whose heart lacked compassion, who reeks with hatred and consumed in rage. In this essay, we will compare and contrast the effect of the lack of maternal influence on both Voldemort and Harry Potter, and also the importance of maternal love on different characters in the wizardry world. I. Love vs. No love Even though both of their mothers died from their infancy, Harry and Voldemort's mothers died in very different circumstances. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rowling's Wily Web of Gender", Gallardo and Smith argue that "by offering a proactive feminist interpretation" they will show that "there are alternative radical readings of the series for both children and adults" (191). They use several criteria to prove their point by showing that the story of the hero Harry Potter is a "cyclical" feminine narrative (191). They show this by presenting that the plot moves from a "passive" and difficult home life into the "active" world of Hogwarts and back again repeatedly (191). This format is used in strictly traditional "girl tales" such as the historic story of the heroine Cinderella which has been retold in over 700 versions (195). The series presents misogynistic gender roles for most of the female characters such as Petunia Dursley, Molly Weasley, and the departed Lily Potter who all represent reclusive homemakers without much power (193–4). The series does portray Hermione Granger, Professor Sibyll Trelawney, and Professor Minerva McGonagall who are women with a voice abate an emotional one (192–4). While watching "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", many theories mentioned in Malory Nye's novel "Religion: The Basics" were subtly included. The overall message of this film as well as particular scene will be analyzed to identify some of the theories, which would relate with this film. Characters from the movie went through a rite of passage, a theory said by Arnold Van Gennep, the reductionist theory, the cognitive and effective belief by Gombrich, and the Habitus theory by Pierre Bourdieu, were some of the theories identified in the film. When looking at these particular events in the film, this film essentially underlies how religion can be in non–religious things, which would include movies. Meals like steak dinners with red wine are viewed as romantic and passionate, while dishes like instant noodles appear cheap and lazy. In literature, however, food is used with much more subtlety. Harry Potter And The Novel ' The Rye ' The complexity and Rowling's willingness to take on difficult and contemporary issues such as racism, genocide, classism, and difference – makes Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone uniquely valuable. While both books can be regarded as controversial due to the moral fibre of them, Catcher in the Rye, captures an adolescent protagonist wavering between childhood and adulthood. Holden Caulfield, a confused teenager, explores how adult life appears complex and incomprehensible to teenagers on the brink of entering it. Likewise, Harry Potter focuses on a timid young boy, unsure of his abilities. While both characters are young and dissatisfied with the world around them, Harry finds ways to resemble positive change and adjusts to the world surrounding him. Holden, however, refuses to acknowledge that adulthood scares him, using the 'museum' to symbolise something that remains unchanged. By the museum representing childhood as a world of innocence, curiosity and honesty, readers are able to distinguish that adulthood to Holden is a world of superficiality and hypocrisy and phoniness. (Reference) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and The Catcher in the Rye both depict bildungsroman. A bildungsroman being defined as "a novel that recounts the development of an individual from childhood or adolescence to maturity, to the point at which the protagonist recognizes his or her place and role in the world" (Murfin & Supryia 39). Hogwarts usually gives out letters of acceptances to kids they think have the ability of magic , or start the ability to have magic. That means Harry Potter got his letter on July 24, 1991, a week before his birthday. In real life though it actually is the Britain school law to get a letter by the age of 11. They also accepted Harry when he was 11 because that is the legal age to get their wands. No muggle, (regular human who got accepted) witch, or wizard can get a ... In some different views Harry is easy to compare with a man named David Pelzer. He was a long– time survivor of child abuse and author of the book, "A Child Called It". His book is the incredible story of courage and strength. He had tried to deal to survive with his mother's terrible abuse and despise towards him Even though, the Dursley's don't treat Harry quite like Mr. Pelzer's mother treated him, I still could see large amounts of similarity between. The family that Harry is living with by the name of the Dursley's make Harry sleep in a small cupboard under the stairs and they are constantly, negatively talking down on him how useless, weird and disgusting he is. David's bed in the basement was an army cot. His clothes were torn and raunchy. Harry was to an extent the Dursley's slave, due to harry always being forced to do anything they demanded from him. David Pelzer's was his mother's slave also he was forced to work all the time and do anything his mother said. Since, Harry grew up in such a horrible home with horrible energy, the Dursleys and Harry's confidence, self–persona was constantly reigned upon before going to Hogwarts. • 31. Analysis Of Harry Potter And Dumbledore In this film critique, I will be analyzing the first half of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The film starts out on Privet Drive in the dark of night emphasizing something dark but important is about to happen. Dumbledore is standing under a street light and is using magic to put the rest of the street lights out when he notices a cat, who quickly transforms into Professor McGonagall. The darkness and low voices emphasize danger and suspense. The character who plays Professor Dumbledore, Richard Harris, is a perfect because of his voice and composure, he goes along perfectly with the book! His presence demands respect and his composure makes him seem wise. The same goes for the Dursley family; Aunt Petunia, Fiona Shaw, is a sharp/crinkle nosed, rude looking skinny woman, Uncle Vernon, Richard Griffiths, is fat and boastful showing he's a horrible person, Dudley, Harry Melling, is a short, fat and pig like looking boy his dad with the attitude combination of both parents, creating a monster of a child. Daniel Ratcliffe is perfect for the part of Harry Potter because he's small, skinny, you would never suspect anything abnormal by just looking at him. Harry lives under the stairs at the Dursley with a lock on the outside of the cabinet and slot just big enough for a dinner plate. This emphasizes the Dursleys feelings about Harry being there. Harry receives his first letter from Hogwarts, the look on Uncle Vernons face shows deep concern, almost like frightened. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She tried to point it out to Albus, but it had disappeared when he looked over. They finally pulled up to the shore and began following Hagrid up the grounds to the castle. It was so much bigger than she had imagined. "It's so big," Albus said in awe. "I was just thinking the same thing," Rose replied. The students sidled up to the entrance. The doors opened and Hagrid shepherded the student into the Hall. "Professor Longbottom will be with you in a moment to explain what will happen next. If any of you ever need someone to talk to or a cup o' tea, you can always come find me," Hagrid said looking directly at Rose and Albus. The American author, teacher, and mythologist, Joseph John Campbell, is universally known for his work in comparative folklore and culture. His studies led him to discover the pattern, journey of the hero. The sequence consists of three stages and exists in many dealings with Greek mythology as well as current popular culture. A modern example of the occurring cycle is the 2001 production, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. In the film, an orphaned young boy named Harry Potter is invited to study at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. • 34. Harry Potter Character Analysis Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature, But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero. Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs. The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave. If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave". There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion. Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog", Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would use to describe Harry Potter is being kind. Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness we must first truly understand what it truly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Jk Rowling Research Paper Kristy McMullen Reflection #2 10/6/17 Kinder J.K Rowling is an incredibly talented author who has broken barriers for children's books, and is an inspiration to all authors who come after her. She didn't learn it on her own though, she has many other literary and cultural influences who helped her story along. We see many literary comparisons to authors like J.R.R Tolkien and C.S Lewis, and then we see the cultural influence such as Arthurian legend. In my research, I have found that a lot of her writing has been influenced by mythology. J.K Rowling herself has a passion for Greek, Roman, and classical mythology, and has been successful in sneaking it into the Harry Potter series through characters, spells, and even her magical creatures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... J.K Rowling has even put classical mythology comparisons on her website "Pottermore". Some of the more obvious connections we see are in the characters of the "Harry Potter" series. For example, Minerva McGonagall has been compared to Athena, the Greek Goddess of War and Wisdom, who's Roman name is Minerva. Both women are powerful and independent, and show vast knowledge and strategy; which McGonagall is able to show us in the final battle at Hogwarts when she quickly forms a plan to keep Voldemort's army at bay for as long as possible. Another character comparison is Rubeus Hagrid to Hagrid Rubes. Hagrid Rubes, also known as the "Giant of the Jewels", is a figure from ancient Greek mythology who was framed for murder by the chief of Gods himself, Zeus. This can be directly related to Rubeus Hagrid being framed by Tom Riddle for the opening of the Chamber of Secrets, and for owning the creature who murdered "Moaning" Myrtle. After Rubeus is expelled from Hogwarts, he is hired by Dumbledore to be caretaker, and eventually Care of Magical Creatures professor, which is very similar to Hagrid Rubes being allowed by Zeus to take care of his animals. These two characters, and many others in the series, show so many similarities to Greek and Roman gods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
