Political Polarization Essay
The polarization of political parties in the United States is more evident than when the American
Political Science Association wrote its 1950s Report arguing for political parties to be responsible.
Recent scholarly work, demonstrates scholarly on the causes and consequences of political
polarization (Abramowitz, 2017; Levendusky and Malhotra 2016; Kernell 2016; Brunell, Grofman,
and Merrill 2016). However, the polarization literature highlights the ongoing debate as to whether
the mass public is polarized as much as political elites are (Abramowitz and Saunders 2008; Fiorina,
Abrams and Pope 2004). The reality is that the mass public, overall, is not polarized (Ahler 2014).

Going beyond the question of definition and conceptualization of political polarization is the debate
among scholars on how much the mass public is polarized, if at all. There are two scholarly
arguments, the first, the mass public is polarized (Abramowitz and Webster 2016; Abramowitz and
Saunders 2008; Jost 2006; Layman and Carsey 2002), and the second is the mass public is not
polarized (Claassen and Highton 2009; Hetherington 2009; Fiorina and Abrams 2008; Fiorina,
Abrams, and Pope 2010; Converse 1964). The debate between the two camps often comes down to

The Politics Of Political Parties
Political parties seem to grab the attention of the people during important times in politics. In spirit,
political parties are meant to represent the people. Moreover, parties can be easily attacked by
accountability. In this case, accountability is very liable when the people know how and when to
enforce consequences. The people can then determine whom they may trust and even more so whom
they may take out of office. There are more advantages than, say disadvantages when looking at the
importance of parties. With such a high diversity and large population, the U.S., as a political system
needs and benefits from these groups. The beginning purpose of political parties was to serve in the
interest of the people. It is essential to recognize that parties matter at the state and local level and
even more so at that national level. A political party is a group of like–minded people whose key
purpose is to win elections and control the government. "The major work of the coalition is to
recruit, nominate, and elect its candidates to public office (Markel, 2009)." One of the many goals
for an official is to get re–elected. In attempting to do so, the political party the candidate falls under
would attempt to create new innovations to compete against their competitor. "It would seem that
parties which often faced closely contested elections would try to out–do each other by embracing
the newest, most progressive programs and this would naturally encourage the rapid

Political Party Viewpoints
Quite often, people are eager to proclaim whether they are a democrat or a republican, yet many of
these people use these political terms because they have been told to, rather than actually resonating
with the beliefs of said political party. Preferably, voters should research issues most important to
them and figure out their own stances, then commit to the political party with the most similar
viewpoint by examining the party's platform from a reliable source. Political parties are voluntary,
organized groups of people with similar political aims and opinions who work to influence public
policy through their candidate running and hopefully being elected to public office. The Democratic
Party was founded in 1828 and is known for their support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Republican Party calls themselves "pro–life" but once the baby has been born, it is up to the
family to fund everything for that child, from their basic needs to their potential college education.
The lack of social programs does not improve quality of life and it is bothersome that people who
call themselves pro–life will not support programs like welfare, food stamps, and housing
assistance. The lack of funding for these programs causes many people to hurt financially. This also
flaws the Republican idea of how to fix the national debt. The Republicans believe that trickle down
economics work and that the people will spend their money on American goods to help stimulate the
U.S. economy. The problem with that theory is when people do not have the money to provide for
their basic needs, they will most definitely not be spending money on simple desires that do not

Carly Fiorina's Political Election
Carly Fiorina joined the ranks of outsider candidates to run in the 2016 election, but unlike Donald
Trump, did not brand herself as an overly populist candidate. Her ad "Take Our Country Back"
might have populist appeals, but focuses on the liberal conventions of setting a political agenda and
convincing voters that she can lead, despite being an outsider with no political experience. The spot
begins by flashing images of her opponents and their tenures in government, with voiceovers
pointing out how they have done nothing to advance the Republican platform during all these years.
This populist shaming sets up Fiorina's liberal appeal and her agenda she calls a blueprint for
America:

Presenting herself as an outsider implies that anyone, regardless of political background, has the
ability to lead the United States, and her blueprint is a promise to the American people what that
leadership will look like.
Using voiceovers and critical depictions of the Republican establishments' tenures in office, Fiorina
is able to identify and define the problem with American politics. The dark music and colors
resemble something of horror, as each politicians' long histories in government have contributed to
the nation's decline. The tone of the spot changes as the text "Had enough?" appear on the screen.
The music rises, signaling to viewers that Fiorina's blueprint is the solution to the problems.
This problem–solution format to the advertisement gives the spot a superhero appeal by identifying
the political establishment as the problem plaguing America, and offering Carly Fiorina as an
outsider solution to these problems. Following a visual of an architectural blueprint, Fiorina's
solutions appear on the screen images of her speaking in the background suggest she is confident
that these plans will succeed. Her solutions–tax reform, defeating ISIS, and provide fiscal

David Mayhew's An Economic Theory Of Congress
"Single–minded reelection seekers" (Mayhew 1974, 17) has been used to describe Congress since
David Mayhew's study in 1974, Congress the Electoral Connection. In his research of Congress,
Mayhew uses each Member of Congress as the appropriate unit of analysis. He claims that all 535
members of Congress act as individuals; therefore, they need to be individually analyzed (1974).
Mayhew was not wrong in1974 when parties in Congress were weak, but as Congress has started to
change his initial argument has become outdated. In this essay, I will explore why David Mayhew
dismisses other positions and units of analysis to examine Congress. Additionally, I will argue that
Congress has evolved due to Southern realignment and can be studied using Conditional Party
Government theory due to an electoral shift.
David Mayhew starts his argument as to why he chose to study Members of Congress as individuals
by challenging Anthony Down's, An Economic Theory of Democracy. As Mayhew states, Down's
argues that members of Congress work as teams split by their party which each ... Show more

Instead, he claimed that this logic could be applied to British politics because of their parliamentary
form of government. Mayhew states that there are various reasons as to why the Parliament in
Britain has parties that work as teams and can be analyzed as such. First, in the British
Parliamentary government, members of Parliament are nominated by the council. Council members
will only appoint an individual that is going to vote along party–lines, hence fostering a greater
party loyalty. Second, members running for office in Britain to do not have the financial resources to
sponsor their campaign, meaning that once again they rely on the party to obtain the resources they
need. Additionally, the Parliamentary system itself is unlike the Presidential System that we have in
America which, according to Mayhew naturally explains the

How Does Political Socialization Affect My Interest In...
I have not had much interest in politics until recently. Before last year, I did not care for anything
related to politics; I thought that it was all boring and had little to no affect on me on a personal
level. I am more interested in politics nowadays. I know better now that it does affect me and I
should care about it. I had learned about the concepts of political socialization, party identification,
political tolerance, political trust, political efficacy in government class and how they affect my
political beliefs. My personal political belief has been shaped into what it is today and is still being
shaped because of those six concepts. Political socialization is the ongoing process in which we
develop our political attitudes (Magleby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the people in America identify themselves as moderate or they do not know if they are
conservative or liberal (Magleby 103). I would rank myself as a liberal on the seven–point–
identification scale because from what I know of conservatives, their beliefs clash with mine.
According to the political surveys that we took in government class, I am a strong liberal. I have
always been against conservative views for as long as I can remember; my family, especially my
very conservative cousin that mentioned earlier, did not like that I did not conform to certain roles
and scolded me for it, thus, resulting in my resentment of conservatives and conservative views. As I
grew older, I noticed that I had unconsciously leaned more towards conservative views as a child
because I wanted to fit in and not be the outlier in my family; now though, I can clearly see the
faulty logic that my family holds and that it is alright for me to have my own

Is The Latest Technology For Everyone?
Is the latest technology for everyone? Could people handle the advancement of new
communications that will be developed soon around the world? I say, "Yes, they can." When people
think of everyone they tend to forget the third world countries and those people that have not even
seen a telephone where they live but all that will change and fast. Years ago, people here in the USA
were told that if they want to continue to watch TV they must remove the "rabbit ears" and replace it
with cable means. Lots of people stood and complained that "Big Brother" wants more control but
since they did not know what is actually going on they blame our government in the first place. For
the last 21 years, ITU (International Telecommunication Union) has been working on a project to
create a worldwide FREE Wi–Fi network and there must be many main standards to be put in place
to make it all work properly. Even now, there are a lot of people that hate to change their phones
from analog to digital (Android/OS) and this will only leave these people behind. Just 2 years ago,
there was an article in the Berkeley Technology Law Journal that took this project into a loop with
massive and misleading statements from mentioning the "digital divide" and many problems with
electricity to keeping a vast devices in a constant state of readiness. They did not see the possible
means to make this project to happen by the date that was set by ITU. When you think of a working

Examples Of Diversity In Political Parties
Many Americans know of the dominant Democratic and Republican parties when talking about
politics. Few may know of the many diverse parties that have and still do grace American soil. The
diversity of political parties may seem confusing to some, but when examined closely, is a prime
example of what America stands for, the right to choose. Some may argue that the American
political system does not exemplify the Constitutional right to choose despite its many choices in
political practices. However, others may argue that the diversity in political choice and practice–
despite not used it its full extent– is what America stands for. The diversity in political parties that
the United States has allows those who believe they're not represented, ... Show more content on

Green Party describes these caucuses as, "...a grouping of Greens, not explicitly ideological in

The Post Wwii And Its Effects On Politics Essay
When I began this research project, I made a personal observation that led me to question some of
the literature on the post–WWII realignment in the South. Specifically, I met several people that
both farmed and saw land ownership as the driver of prosperity. I did not hear these thoughts from
professors, engineers, or teachers. From what I saw, people who valued the land as part of success in
life thought that their mindset was predominant. It is reasonable to believe that such a thought was
commonplace at one time.
The literature has only recently begun to look empirically at questions about the changing structure
of the economy and its effects on politics (Eleid and Rodden 2006). Several studies have examined
how changes in income affect voting patterns, but they have mostly ignored the changes to a
service–oriented South (Shafer and Johnston 2006, Stonecash 2000, Brewer and Stonecash 2001).
This project was a chance to explore these issues further.
Summary of Findings
The results presented in the previous chapter showed that there is some value to the idea that
agricultural decline helped make the Republican Party strong in the South. The predicted interaction
between percentage agricultural employment and per capita income has a statistically significant
effect on overall Republican Party strength. The evidence does support my hypothesis that
agricultural decline did increase the electoral strength of the Republican Party in the South when
income increased. However,

When conducting the research for my survey, I will be studying the political preference of people in
correlation to the political preference of the town they grew up in. For example, a person is more
likely to be a Republican if they originate from a Republican–dominated town. The independent
variable, the variable whose variation does not depend on the other, that will be studied is political
preference of the participant: Republican, Democratic or Independent. A person's political
preference can have many conceptual definitions. It can mean the person lives a certain lifestyle, or
they have views on policy and how the government should run. It can also determine stereotypical
characters as about the person themselves. Moreover, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, "Please choose how strongly you agree with the statement: My parents imposed
Republican values on me throughout my childhood. 1 = Extremely Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 =
Neutral, 4 = Agree, 5 = Agree."
The hypothesis of this study is people are more likely to be a specific political party depending on
the majority of the political preference of the participant's hometown. There is a positive
relationship between the two variables of the person's political preference and their hometown's
political preference. This type of research and survey has drawn a lot of attention from the media
with the current 2016 Presidential Election between now–President Donald J. Trump and Senator
Hillary Clinton. This election had a much stronger impact on the population of the United States
both mentally and emotionally. Through general knowledge and evidence, the media made an
abundant amount of traction on how numerous statisticians and pollers predicted Clinton to win the
election by a landslide. In the end, they were wrong as Trump won the presidency. It is important to
understanding how to determine if someone is a Republican or Democratic and their voting patterns
to correctly predict future outcomes of elections. Similarly, I have predicted this proposed
hypothesis based on the assumption that children gain traits like their parents. If parents impose
political beliefs, it could affect the child and what they grow up to believe. Certain traits and

Bipartisanship In America
The tension caused by the political stalemate of the current two–party system in the United States of
America undoubtedly trickles down to the day to day living of the average person. It is, without
question, one of the most indecisive eras in the political history of the United States. As a
representative democracy, the decisions made by those on Capitol Hill should reflect the wills of the
American majority, but to say such might imply that the majority wishes ill happenings onto their
less numerous counterparts. Such an assertion can be supported by purported discrimination by law
makers, economic disagreement, political indecisiveness, intrepid abuse of power by American law
enforcement officers, and social injustices represented by the ... Show more content on

First, a separation of political beliefs and how they coincide with approaching economic reform
must be investigated. Republicans tend to believe in fiscal conservatism, that the Federal
Government should be more transparent in its actions, and the individual businessman should be
able to do for themselves without so heavily relying on government aid. Democrats tend to support a
more liberal approach to economics, that the Federal Government should be more active in
individual businesses, and that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that businesses
succeed. This extends into taxation, where the Republicans believe that the government should cut
spending and allow more proactivity from citizens in taxation, while Democrats argue that the
government knows better than the individual, and should, as true representatives of the voters,
decide on their behalf which tax burdens and spending should be made. It is clear than benefits can
come from both sides of the political spectrum. One example of this is the Emergency Economic
Stabilization Act of 2008. In essence, the EESA was an act that effectively gave $700 billion to the
Treasury department and authorization to use those funds to purchase assets, mortgages, and other
financially binding contracts from banks and financial institutions which were lowering

The Two Party System: The Black Lives Matter Movement
Americans are generally friendly people if they don't know your political alignment. Granted, events
such as racism and class stigmatism still exist, but we are likely to be more tolerant of somebody if

reason, Americans have this animosity toward each other. Take the hostile perspectives on climate
change, the Black Lives Matter movement, or even the underlying views surrounding the upcoming

viewpoints. How many times have you heard "Never talk politics at a dinner party, everyone will

Ultimately, the solution to this great political schism lies in two parts. The first of these parts is the
media's duty to foster and propagate the spread of multiple perspectives, and to not only present the
happenings of the world through a single lens. As was mentioned in a lecture given by Paul
Baumann, the magazine Commonweal is a brilliant example of this principle, publishing a counter
article to accompany every heavily opinionated article published. However, this cannot be done
without the second aspect, which is the open–mindedness and willingness to learn that must be
adopted by the general public of America. Rather dismissing an opposing viewpoint as completely
irrational, take the time and effort to rationally think through the points made. I can guarantee that

Essay On Republican Party
The United States population is spread out across a spectrum of the political ideologies. We are
typically seen as being on the "left", also called liberals, or on the "right", called conservatives. The
two main political parties in our country are the Democrats, whose supporters are typically on the
left, and the Republicans, whose supporters are on the right. These parties and their policies,
however, are becoming more polarized and are attracting the more extreme members of their party
and not the moderate voters, which make up the majority of the voters. By setting policies that the
moderate voters would agree with can help political parties gain more voters, as long as they do not
lean too far away from their base groups, or their strongest and more extreme voters. Republicans
would gain supporters by changing their policies on free trade agreements, immigration, healthcare,
and wall street to those that are more similar to the most of the public. These supporters would come
from the moderate voters, like the hard–pressed skeptics and the young outsiders, and some of the
other liberal groups, like the next–generation left and the faith and family left. Today the Republican
party wants to repeal all free trade agreements. This is in contrast with the majority of the general
population, in which 59% believe that free trade agreements are good for our nation and 30%
believe that they are bad. The Democrats on the other hand support most of the agreements that are

Honor in No One Writes to the Colonel and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Garcia–Marquez
Every culture in the world has its own unique set of values that they adhere to in life. The most
important value to people is their honor. Honor is a very important factor in a person life that they
will stop at nothing to make sure it is not lost. This endless pursuit of keeping honor can causes both
positive and negative effects to a society. The reason honor is a main driving force in a person's life
is for the simple fact that it determines how the society views that person's integrity, honesty and
truthfulness to himself and family.

The Colonel and his wife consequently starve in order to maintain the honor given by the rooster.
They conceal this humiliation of poverty by giving a false illusion of who they are to their
neighbors. The Colonel believes that starvation is necessary as long as they are honorable to the
liberal party and their son. The wife of the Colonel states "I [place] stones on to boil so the
neighbors wouldn't know that we often go with out food for days"(159). The Colonel's wife feels
humiliated that they have to live in poverty to maintain honor. In a moment of doubt the Colonel's
wife states to the Colonel "you can't eat dignity"(160). Then the author uses a brief interruption in
the setting to show incorrectness in the wife's comment. Garcia uses the interruption of lighting to
show that what the wife said was wrong and that lying and maintaining their honor is the most
important thing to do.
This same idea that maintaining honor can cause a person to live a life of lies is seen in the novella
Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The whole town covers up and lies about being involved and having
any information about Santiago Nasar's death. They do this because they want to honor the Vicario
family by making the murder look justifiable and a strict matter of family honor. The narrator states
that, "affairs of honor are sacred monopolies, giving access only to those who are part of it

Donald Trump 's Views On Politics
Lauren Crimmins Professor Drugan ENC 1101–114 October 14, 2016
Donald Trump has not shied away from voicing his opinions on politics. Many of his ideas and
actions have led people to wonder if he truly is a conservative or not. Over the years, it seems that
Donald Trump's political ideology has shifted with time. During the late 1990's, he left behind the
Republican Party to join the Reform Party. However, within the next couple of years, Donald Trump
has once again shifted his views back to one of a conservative. In addition to jumping back and forth
between parties, Trump has also said things that go against both of these parties' ideologies, but are
similar to the ideas of a liberal. These shifts in views have led people to wonder if Donald Trump is
even a true conservative. The man claims to be a Republican, but his previous actions do not help
support his claims. Is Donald Trump a true conservative?
In the year 2000, Donald Trump ran in the presidential race under the Reform Party. Not many
people are familiar with this party because it is not one of the two popular political parties in
America. The Reform Party falls in the middle of the political spectrum, that being, they are
moderate their ideas. More specifically, a Reformist believes in a moderate fiscal and economic
platform mixed with strong calls for ethics and electoral reform based on populist beliefs. Their goal
is to seek an alternative to the two major parties in America, which are the Democratic and

Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt
The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions seemingly
followed that religiously, and today's version of the Republican Party is proof that we are not too far
off from Lewis' version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis'
novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society,
business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top
priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today's world, set themselves in a

Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint.
Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt
attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his "mechanical" lifestyle, which one could view as
someone's break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him
to join the Good Citizens' League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over
his wife's operation, and he began to preach, "the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration,
and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts" (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted
through that statement that the Good Citizens' League was little more than a political club, or more
specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party's
actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that
party.
If the party was like that over seventy–five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts
corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the
Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican
Party was the cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward
the contrary yet still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested

The beliefs that my party holds are subject to change due to the opinions and ideas of others. This

Voting is a standout amongst the most principal parts of political engagement. Numerous political
researchers connect voting with the strength of the popularity based process and contend that
declining voting rates might be symptomatic of a democratic deficit. Since political support can
likewise impact public policy, others are worried that lower investment could bring about strategies
that are not really illustrative of key voting demographics, similar to the individuals who tend to
vote less. Therefore, the voter turnout rate is utilized as one pointer of political engagement. In
Canada, researchers who look at voter turnout have found various

Essay on The Rise and Fall of Political Parties
December 20, 2010
I. Thesis Statement
While the question on whether or not they should be accepted as a legitimate means to express
political disagreement is really up to the citizens. As long as the parties don't become too powerful
then there shouldn't be a problem at all. If somebody wishes to express a disagreement and they
don't agree with either of the current two parties then by all means let them start their own party. As
long as the citizens agree with what you are saying it shouldn't really matter what political party you
belong to or what political office. Political participation is influenced by many important factors,
one of which is political parties. The participation of citizens is a fundamental component of modern

Following this, different core concepts, which are imperative to a definition of politics, will be
discussed, in the hope to discover a true and fair interpretation of the word politics.
The word politics comes from the Greek word polis, meaning the state or community as a whole.
The concept of the polis was an ideal state and came from the writings of great political thinkers
such as Plato and Aristotle. In his novel The Republic Plato describes the ideal state and the means
to achieve it. The word politics originally has connotations in the ways in which to create the ideal
society. An ideal society is in practice a rather difficult aim and even an impossible aim to achieve.
Politics implies measures which could and should, in the views of their devisor, be implemented in
the hope to create a better society, than that which is already present. The very fact that Plato and
Aristotle saw imperfections in the societies, in which they lived, prompted them to write their
political philosophies. These philosophies provided the first written recognition of politics. Aristotle
believed that man is a political animal, in another words; it lies deep within the instinct of man.
According to Aristotle politics was not a dreamt up concept, but rather an inherent feature of
mankind. To begin with, the basest premise that underpins the notion of politics should be
considered in order to arrive at a fair definition. Man is self–preserving by

Primitive Methodists: Individual Nonconformists
Until the Methodist Union of 1932, Primitive Methodists continued to be considered a political
people. Although many individual Nonconformists were regarded as such, the Primitives were still
notably political. In 1914 Rev G. A Guest, a former Wesleyan minister who was resigning his
ministry for ordination within the Anglican Church, complained that:
Primitive Methodist ministers are mostly intensely political. I have examined a volume of their
minutes, and in the obituary notices find such sentences as these: 'he was a keen politician', 'he was a
capable politician and prominently employed on the National Liberal Association'. One such
obituary describes the Anglican clergy as 'fawning and creed–bound' and says of its subject that he

The praise was sometimes qualified, reservations being related to either the subject's extreme
political or secular tendencies; only rarely did a Conservative politician achieve similar levels of
approbation. One notable exception was Lord Robert Cecil, a Free Trader and advocate for the
League of Nations. Obituaries of Primitive Methodist Conservatives were rare and, where they exist,
muted. For example, an obituary of a Mr John Pitts suggested that his 'politics were perhaps [my
emphasis] conservative', as if his political views were rarely expressed within the context of his
Church. Significantly, Lloyd George's status as the 'Moses' leading his people to the promised Land
became tarnished by the end of this period due to his adoption of policies that were not in harmony
with those of the Church and his association with the Tories. Liberalism and an ethical Socialism
were still the primary contenders for the political soul of Primitive Methodists, expressed through
the Liberal or Labour Party. Regardless of party, individualism and collectivism had achieved a
harmony that was best expressed in an article by Rev. W. Potter. He praised the spirit of
individualism for achieving religious freedom, political liberties and franchise extension but
suggested that

Political Parties And The Democratic Party Essay
Introduction:
Originally political parties were seen as skeptical by our Founding Fathers and therefore opposed.
However, today our government has political parties. Political parties attempt to gain control of the
government and influence its decisions. The two most influential parties in American government
are the Republican and Democratic Party. These two parties have very contrasting beliefs which
they present in their platforms. Democrats believe in "the need for intervention by government in
the form of more and bigger programs" and agree that there must be fairness in government
regulations and freedom of expression. Republicans however, have more conservative values and
cultivate the importance of family and the efforts made by individuals. They, unlike the Democratic
Party, prefer to keep the power out of the hands of the government. Political parties' business and
actions affect every American. Especially when the political party is governing and practicing its
beliefs. The structure of marriage, education, taxes, and defense spending are all topics that
influence the daily lives of American individuals. That is why is it is important to know where each
political party stands.
Marriage and Family:
Republicans describe marriage as "the union of one man and one woman" and their regulations
revolve around these ideals. They state that children's emotional and physical health is stronger
when they are raised in a household with two parents. To Republicans, natural

How Are Political Parties Are Powerless?
In the first part of the essay, we will start with the definition of political parties. Then, the functions
of political parties will be discussed. In the last part of the essay, we will evaluate whether political
parties in Hong Kong are powerless, since they cannot form a government and make policy, by the
history of the parties and the limitations that they are facing.
Political party can be defined as "a group of officials or would–be officials who are linked with a
sizeable group of citizens into an organization; a chief object of this organization is to ensure that its
officials attain power or are maintained in power" (Shively, 2001, p. 234). In short, "a group of
people that includes those who hold office and those who help get and keep them there" (Clark,
Golder and Golder, 2013, p.604). Political parties are not limited to democracies or electoral activity
as they exist in many dictatorships (ibid, p.605). Political parties have a major difference compared
to interest or pressure groups: although both attempt to influence government policy, the latter
would not take power.

Kong, while the pan–democratic camp identify themselves as Chinese based on the historical

Political Parties of Texas Essay
As individuals, we turn towards political parties to identify with a group that has the most in
common with our own values and principals. Each political party's agenda focuses on the primary
interests affiliated with that party and is motivated to enact its beliefs and interests through
legislation by electing officials into government. Texas is a large state with four political parties:
Republican, Democratic, Green Party, and Libertarian. Each political party has a basic fundamental
ideology and platform on current issues. The two major political parties in Texas and in the nation

I personally feel that this proposed legislation is unconstitutional and infringes on personal rights. I
also feel that this proposal conflicts with Republican ideology for less government interference in
the daily lives of citizens. For a political party that is so focused on defending privacy and limited
government involvement, this proposed legislative directive is very contradictory and hypocritical
for what the Republican Party's ideals stand for. They are in favor of review and revision of the
Patriot Act, as well as "related executive and military orders and directives that erode constitutional
rights and essential liberties of citizens." (Republican Party of Texas) The Republicans are choosey
as to which constitutional rights and liberties they recognize and protect. The remaining legislative
priorities target education, immigration, and tax reform. One item addressed concerning taxes is a
request to "reject raising or indexing the gas tax." (Republican Party of Texas) I agree with this
proposition. If gas taxes continue to rise, drivers will undergo a hardship in transportation, especially
in Austin because public transportation has not yet successfully evolved to accommodate a city of its
size efficiently. Fiscally speaking, overall I agree with the Republican Party's fundamentals of
reducing spending and taxation. Overall, socially I was in opposition with the party's principals.
Specifically, I stand in opposition to the party's attitudes towards

Telecommunication Is The Real Face Of The Advances Of...
Telecommunications
Telecommunication is the real face of the advances in Information Technology (IT). In fact, the
overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone,
television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of
Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of
means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission of
voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed too
much and affected the world and the human being behavior.
Telecommunications means the transmission of information between two stations. Basically, a
transmitter, a receiver and an electrical mean – channel – are enough to complete a
telecommunication process. The channel can be a cable, electromagnetic waves or fiber optics. This
system is interconnected in a very large network on which all communications in the world is done.
A simple fixed telephone call, a cellphone call, a satellite transmission, an e–mail, a download of a
music, everything is possible because of this network.
Even though the main goal of this network is the communication, it can go beyond this. Actually,
this large system supports the international trade, the online education, the exchanging of messages
(e–mail, short message), the Internet, the bank transactions and many other services. Besides, a new

Republican Party Typology
The American political system is always susceptible to change. In recent decades, the United States
has experienced an increase in political polarization between the two parties. These extreme views
resonate with the Americans that sit at the tips of the ideological spectrum, but the majority of
people have more moderate ideologies. Most fall in between the two extremes, holding different
combinations of social and economic values that make it difficult to place each person on the
traditional linear spectrum. To further analyze voters, a political typology of the United States can be
conducted, which further sorts voters into more connected groups based on their attitudes and
values. This data has proven to be crucial for political parties when determining what policies to
include in their platform, because recent general elections have revealed that the undecided vote
plays a large role in determining the winner. In order to maximize the amount of voters the
Republican Party receives in the general election, the party must incorporate values and policies in
their platform that attracts the maximum amount of moderate voters, without drifting too far away
from traditional Republican values to ensure the retention of the constituency. This can be achieved
by adopting new policies on abortion, alternative energy, unauthorized immigrants, and In order to
properly analyze the data collected by a typology, one must first understand how each of the
different groupings is composed.

What Is Media Bias?
For decades, the Media have been increasingly perceived as bias, untrustworthy, and accused of
reporting "fake" news–but there is much debate about the truthfulness of these claims. Now one of
the most important journalistic ethics, objectivity really gained popularity in about 1890. Before that
time, papers were openly biased, funded mostly by the political parties themselves. Now candidates
use media bias for a different advantage. Both Presidents George H. W. Bush and Donald Trump
actively used "liberal media bias" to further their campaigns, and some argue that it was key to
Trump's win. Liberals undoubtable garner the most accusations of bias, causing conservatives to
flock to Fox news, who use their conservative bias to their benefit. ... Show more content on

Since only 1994, the percentage of Republicans who find the Democratic Party "unfavorable" has
risen from seventy–four percent to ninety–one percent in 2016; and Republicans who find
Democrats "very unfavorable" has risen from twenty–one percent to a staggering fifty–eight percent.
On the other side, the percentage of Democrats who find Republicans "unfavorable" has jumped
from fifty–nine percent to eighty–six percent, and "very unfavorable" from seventeen percent to
fifty–five percent. Just between 2014 and 2016, both groups who have found the other "very
unfavorable" have grown by twelve percentage points (Pew Research Center). These statistics are a
perfect example of how quickly the cleavages between conservatives and liberals are growing wider
and wider. The most common reason (at about forty percent for each party) for having such a
negative view of the opposite party is that the opposing party's policies are "a threat to the nation's
well–being" (Pew Research Center). Another change that has taken place in the recent decades is the
rise in people who base their political party associations solely on negative feelings for the opposing
party (about fifty percent on each side). It is natural that voters would have some negative feelings
toward the opposition, but in 1964, only ten percent of Republicans and fourteen percent of
Democrats had

Factors That Affect Political Attitudes Of Voters
There is a wide range of factors that influenced people when they cast their secret votes on Election
Day. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political
attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party
affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The
three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic
group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification
and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7
"Party Coalition and Party Change" shows how races, age, educational background and
demographic location have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and
racial minorities tend to affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical
white programs tend to affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6
about "Party identification" identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group
influence party affiliation. According to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their
parents do. Therefore, families have the first and the most lasting influence on young people 's
developing political opinions. As this children get older, various others group such as relatives and

Great Political Debates
The Great Political Debate Ben Franklin once said there is only two certainties in life, death and
taxes. Although you may not agree with this statement, it does provide two key topics that are highly
debated amongst parties of the United States democracy. In terms of death, abortion and the death
penalty are debated topics that each party has a different stance on. Those topics are an area of
government that do not have a consensus. When it comes to taxes, every party has general ambitions
on how to treat taxing citizens. Even though there are a multitude of political parties present in
politics today, the only parties that are repeatedly mentioned election after election are the

The democratic party relates the issue of abortion in a court case called Roe verse Wade. In this
court case, the US Supreme Court affirmed the legality of a woman's right to have an abortion under
the 14th amendment. As one can see, depending on how you interpret the 14th amendment
determines the outcome of legality. Since the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of the law, the states
must grant the right to abortion, regardless of being a red state or not. Another democratic view on
abortion is that a woman should never have to fear the ability to pay for an abortion. In the
democratic platform for America in 2004 it stated, "we stand proudly for a woman's right to choose,
consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay" (Democratic platform). This is in
opposition of the republican view, as republicans do not want health care providers to provide for
abortions. The democratic view is that all women should have access to an abortion, which is most
likely going to be through health care. Overall, one can see that the democratic view on abortion
differs from the republican viewpoint through the interpretation of the 14th amendment and thoughts
on paying for

Democrats and Republicans
The United States of America is known to have two major political parties. The Republican party
and the democratic one. Both parties are based on views and principles being completely opposites
of each other. The Republican party is known to be a conservative party, while the democratic party
is known to be liberal. Two concepts that are opposites to each other. The democratic party will most
certainly convince the majority of the people that it is the ideal party to remain in office because it
promotes economic equality, it advocates civil rights and individual freedom, and because it is a
liberal party.

be cut, meaning they would be paying less taxes than before. As for the " millionaires" and higher
class of society they will still pay the same taxes as they did before. This policy is more likely to be
considered as equal because it is not rated fair when people from different social classes with a big
difference in their incomes pay the same taxes. Especially because the taxes will eventually be
lowered for the lower classes because they would be unable to afford paying the regular and high
taxes. This will also lead in the cut of taxes for the high social class, which then makes the whole
concept unequal. Not just for the people but also for the national economy (Witcover, 791–545).
A democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a

Party Preference Research Paper
Party Preference After researching the beliefs of the two presidential parties in greater detail, I have
come to the conclusion that I share more qualities and beliefs with that of a democrat versus a
republican because of foreign aid, gun control, and immigration policies. I am convinced that these
three issues have helped me further the process in choosing a side because I tend to have more of a
liberalistic view, rather than a conservationist view. I've realized that I want change for the benefit of
the greater good, rather than for the individual. I also believe that since our society is evolving, our
country's views must build new ideals in order to continue what the country values most, peace and
freedom. The first topic that I have based my party preference on was the political party's stances on
foreign aid. The democratic views on foreign aid policies are that the U.S. should raise the budget to
support the more disadvantaged countries to further repair the gap between the wealthy and
impoverished. On the other hand, Republicans are more concerned about the U.S., and only see
helping others as an alternative in keeping the peace. I believe that in order to keep bonds and have
strong connections with other leaders, especially through trade, the budget needs to either stay the
same or increase. In situations like the invasion of our country, ... Show more content on

In the United States of America, there exists a two–party system comprised of the U.S. Democratic
Party and the U.S. Republican Party. Although these two parties have become somewhat neutral on
many issues of national policy, each party has a unique perspective of how the ever–looming Social
Security problem should be alleviated. First, the U.S. Democratic Party believes that in order to fix
the Social Security problem, pension plans must be reformed and savings incentives must be
expanded nationwide. Also, the U.S. Democratic Party has persistently argued against the recent
idea of privatizing Social Security. On the other hand, the U.S. Republican Party believes the Social
Security system is in need of much more drastic change. According to statistics provided by the
official website of the Republican National Committee, "Under the current system, today's 30–year–
old worker will face a 26% benefit cut when he or she reaches normal retirement age." Also
according to the RNC website, "By 2041, when workers in their mid–20s begin to retire, the system
will be bankrupt – unless we act now to save it." In order to fix this troubled system, the U.S.
Republican Party believes that the only answer is privatization. Another pressing issue in American
politics is the issue of energy. Although both sides agree that our dependence on foreign is
unhealthy, each side promotes a different approach to change it.

Many of these functions are often performed most effectively by constituency parties at that level,

Political Polarization Essay

  • 1. Political Polarization Essay The polarization of political parties in the United States is more evident than when the American Political Science Association wrote its 1950s Report arguing for political parties to be responsible. Recent scholarly work, demonstrates scholarly on the causes and consequences of political polarization (Abramowitz, 2017; Levendusky and Malhotra 2016; Kernell 2016; Brunell, Grofman, and Merrill 2016). However, the polarization literature highlights the ongoing debate as to whether the mass public is polarized as much as political elites are (Abramowitz and Saunders 2008; Fiorina, Abrams and Pope 2004). The reality is that the mass public, overall, is not polarized (Ahler 2014). While political parties have differentiated themselves on issues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going beyond the question of definition and conceptualization of political polarization is the debate among scholars on how much the mass public is polarized, if at all. There are two scholarly arguments, the first, the mass public is polarized (Abramowitz and Webster 2016; Abramowitz and Saunders 2008; Jost 2006; Layman and Carsey 2002), and the second is the mass public is not polarized (Claassen and Highton 2009; Hetherington 2009; Fiorina and Abrams 2008; Fiorina, Abrams, and Pope 2010; Converse 1964). The debate between the two camps often comes down to how polarization is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Politics Of Political Parties Political parties seem to grab the attention of the people during important times in politics. In spirit, political parties are meant to represent the people. Moreover, parties can be easily attacked by accountability. In this case, accountability is very liable when the people know how and when to enforce consequences. The people can then determine whom they may trust and even more so whom they may take out of office. There are more advantages than, say disadvantages when looking at the importance of parties. With such a high diversity and large population, the U.S., as a political system needs and benefits from these groups. The beginning purpose of political parties was to serve in the interest of the people. It is essential to recognize that parties matter at the state and local level and even more so at that national level. A political party is a group of like–minded people whose key purpose is to win elections and control the government. "The major work of the coalition is to recruit, nominate, and elect its candidates to public office (Markel, 2009)." One of the many goals for an official is to get re–elected. In attempting to do so, the political party the candidate falls under would attempt to create new innovations to compete against their competitor. "It would seem that parties which often faced closely contested elections would try to out–do each other by embracing the newest, most progressive programs and this would naturally encourage the rapid ... • 5. Political Party Viewpoints Quite often, people are eager to proclaim whether they are a democrat or a republican, yet many of these people use these political terms because they have been told to, rather than actually resonating with the beliefs of said political party. Preferably, voters should research issues most important to them and figure out their own stances, then commit to the political party with the most similar viewpoint by examining the party's platform from a reliable source. Political parties are voluntary, organized groups of people with similar political aims and opinions who work to influence public policy through their candidate running and hopefully being elected to public office. The Democratic Party was founded in 1828 and is known for their support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republican Party calls themselves "pro–life" but once the baby has been born, it is up to the family to fund everything for that child, from their basic needs to their potential college education. The lack of social programs does not improve quality of life and it is bothersome that people who call themselves pro–life will not support programs like welfare, food stamps, and housing assistance. The lack of funding for these programs causes many people to hurt financially. This also flaws the Republican idea of how to fix the national debt. The Republicans believe that trickle down economics work and that the people will spend their money on American goods to help stimulate the U.S. economy. The problem with that theory is when people do not have the money to provide for their basic needs, they will most definitely not be spending money on simple desires that do not matter ... • 7. Carly Fiorina's Political Election Carly Fiorina joined the ranks of outsider candidates to run in the 2016 election, but unlike Donald Trump, did not brand herself as an overly populist candidate. Her ad "Take Our Country Back" might have populist appeals, but focuses on the liberal conventions of setting a political agenda and convincing voters that she can lead, despite being an outsider with no political experience. The spot begins by flashing images of her opponents and their tenures in government, with voiceovers pointing out how they have done nothing to advance the Republican platform during all these years. This populist shaming sets up Fiorina's liberal appeal and her agenda she calls a blueprint for America: Female Announcer: ...that a Republican failed to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Presenting herself as an outsider implies that anyone, regardless of political background, has the ability to lead the United States, and her blueprint is a promise to the American people what that leadership will look like. Using voiceovers and critical depictions of the Republican establishments' tenures in office, Fiorina is able to identify and define the problem with American politics. The dark music and colors resemble something of horror, as each politicians' long histories in government have contributed to the nation's decline. The tone of the spot changes as the text "Had enough?" appear on the screen. The music rises, signaling to viewers that Fiorina's blueprint is the solution to the problems. This problem–solution format to the advertisement gives the spot a superhero appeal by identifying the political establishment as the problem plaguing America, and offering Carly Fiorina as an outsider solution to these problems. Following a visual of an architectural blueprint, Fiorina's solutions appear on the screen images of her speaking in the background suggest she is confident that these plans will succeed. Her solutions–tax reform, defeating ISIS, and provide fiscal responsibility, to name a few–broadly describe the content of this blueprint, but offer no supporting details. • 9. David Mayhew's An Economic Theory Of Congress "Single–minded reelection seekers" (Mayhew 1974, 17) has been used to describe Congress since David Mayhew's study in 1974, Congress the Electoral Connection. In his research of Congress, Mayhew uses each Member of Congress as the appropriate unit of analysis. He claims that all 535 members of Congress act as individuals; therefore, they need to be individually analyzed (1974). Mayhew was not wrong in1974 when parties in Congress were weak, but as Congress has started to change his initial argument has become outdated. In this essay, I will explore why David Mayhew dismisses other positions and units of analysis to examine Congress. Additionally, I will argue that Congress has evolved due to Southern realignment and can be studied using Conditional Party Government theory due to an electoral shift. David Mayhew starts his argument as to why he chose to study Members of Congress as individuals by challenging Anthony Down's, An Economic Theory of Democracy. As Mayhew states, Down's argues that members of Congress work as teams split by their party which each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, he claimed that this logic could be applied to British politics because of their parliamentary form of government. Mayhew states that there are various reasons as to why the Parliament in Britain has parties that work as teams and can be analyzed as such. First, in the British Parliamentary government, members of Parliament are nominated by the council. Council members will only appoint an individual that is going to vote along party–lines, hence fostering a greater party loyalty. Second, members running for office in Britain to do not have the financial resources to sponsor their campaign, meaning that once again they rely on the party to obtain the resources they need. • 11. How Does Political Socialization Affect My Interest In... I have not had much interest in politics until recently. Before last year, I did not care for anything related to politics; I thought that it was all boring and had little to no affect on me on a personal level. I am more interested in politics nowadays. I know better now that it does affect me and I should care about it. I had learned about the concepts of political socialization, party identification, political tolerance, political trust, political efficacy in government class and how they affect my political beliefs. My personal political belief has been shaped into what it is today and is still being shaped because of those six concepts. Political socialization is the ongoing process in which we develop our political attitudes (Magleby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the people in America identify themselves as moderate or they do not know if they are conservative or liberal (Magleby 103). I would rank myself as a liberal on the seven–point– identification scale because from what I know of conservatives, their beliefs clash with mine. According to the political surveys that we took in government class, I am a strong liberal. I have always been against conservative views for as long as I can remember; my family, especially my very conservative cousin that mentioned earlier, did not like that I did not conform to certain roles and scolded me for it, thus, resulting in my resentment of conservatives and conservative views. As I grew older, I noticed that I had unconsciously leaned more towards conservative views as a child because I wanted to fit in and not be the outlier in my family; now though, I can clearly see the faulty logic that my family holds and that it is alright for me to have my own ... • 13. Is The Latest Technology For Everyone? Is the latest technology for everyone? Could people handle the advancement of new communications that will be developed soon around the world? I say, "Yes, they can." When people think of everyone they tend to forget the third world countries and those people that have not even seen a telephone where they live but all that will change and fast. Years ago, people here in the USA were told that if they want to continue to watch TV they must remove the "rabbit ears" and replace it with cable means. Lots of people stood and complained that "Big Brother" wants more control but since they did not know what is actually going on they blame our government in the first place. For the last 21 years, ITU (International Telecommunication Union) has been working on a project to create a worldwide FREE Wi–Fi network and there must be many main standards to be put in place to make it all work properly. Even now, there are a lot of people that hate to change their phones from analog to digital (Android/OS) and this will only leave these people behind. Just 2 years ago, there was an article in the Berkeley Technology Law Journal that took this project into a loop with massive and misleading statements from mentioning the "digital divide" and many problems with electricity to keeping a vast devices in a constant state of readiness. They did not see the possible means to make this project to happen by the date that was set by ITU. When you think of a working network you think of having the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Examples Of Diversity In Political Parties Many Americans know of the dominant Democratic and Republican parties when talking about politics. Few may know of the many diverse parties that have and still do grace American soil. The diversity of political parties may seem confusing to some, but when examined closely, is a prime example of what America stands for, the right to choose. Some may argue that the American political system does not exemplify the Constitutional right to choose despite its many choices in political practices. However, others may argue that the diversity in political choice and practice– despite not used it its full extent– is what America stands for. The diversity in political parties that the United States has allows those who believe they're not represented, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. The Post Wwii And Its Effects On Politics Essay When I began this research project, I made a personal observation that led me to question some of the literature on the post–WWII realignment in the South. Specifically, I met several people that both farmed and saw land ownership as the driver of prosperity. I did not hear these thoughts from professors, engineers, or teachers. From what I saw, people who valued the land as part of success in life thought that their mindset was predominant. It is reasonable to believe that such a thought was commonplace at one time. The literature has only recently begun to look empirically at questions about the changing structure of the economy and its effects on politics (Eleid and Rodden 2006). Several studies have examined how changes in income affect voting patterns, but they have mostly ignored the changes to a service–oriented South (Shafer and Johnston 2006, Stonecash 2000, Brewer and Stonecash 2001). This project was a chance to explore these issues further. Summary of Findings The results presented in the previous chapter showed that there is some value to the idea that agricultural decline helped make the Republican Party strong in the South. The predicted interaction between percentage agricultural employment and per capita income has a statistically significant effect on overall Republican Party strength. The evidence does support my hypothesis that agricultural decline did increase the electoral strength of the Republican Party in the South when income increased. However, ... • 19. When Conducting The Research For My Survey, I Will Be... When conducting the research for my survey, I will be studying the political preference of people in correlation to the political preference of the town they grew up in. For example, a person is more likely to be a Republican if they originate from a Republican–dominated town. The independent variable, the variable whose variation does not depend on the other, that will be studied is political preference of the participant: Republican, Democratic or Independent. A person's political preference can have many conceptual definitions. It can mean the person lives a certain lifestyle, or they have views on policy and how the government should run. It can also determine stereotypical characters as about the person themselves. Moreover, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, "Please choose how strongly you agree with the statement: My parents imposed Republican values on me throughout my childhood. 1 = Extremely Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Agree, 5 = Agree." The hypothesis of this study is people are more likely to be a specific political party depending on the majority of the political preference of the participant's hometown. There is a positive relationship between the two variables of the person's political preference and their hometown's political preference. This type of research and survey has drawn a lot of attention from the media with the current 2016 Presidential Election between now–President Donald J. Trump and Senator Hillary Clinton. This election had a much stronger impact on the population of the United States both mentally and emotionally. Through general knowledge and evidence, the media made an abundant amount of traction on how numerous statisticians and pollers predicted Clinton to win the election by a landslide. In the end, they were wrong as Trump won the presidency. It is important to understanding how to determine if someone is a Republican or Democratic and their voting patterns to correctly predict future outcomes of elections. Similarly, I have predicted this proposed hypothesis based on the assumption that children gain traits like their parents. If parents impose political beliefs, it could affect the child and what they grow up to believe. Certain traits and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Bipartisanship In America The tension caused by the political stalemate of the current two–party system in the United States of America undoubtedly trickles down to the day to day living of the average person. It is, without question, one of the most indecisive eras in the political history of the United States. As a representative democracy, the decisions made by those on Capitol Hill should reflect the wills of the American majority, but to say such might imply that the majority wishes ill happenings onto their less numerous counterparts. Such an assertion can be supported by purported discrimination by law makers, economic disagreement, political indecisiveness, intrepid abuse of power by American law enforcement officers, and social injustices represented by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, a separation of political beliefs and how they coincide with approaching economic reform must be investigated. Republicans tend to believe in fiscal conservatism, that the Federal Government should be more transparent in its actions, and the individual businessman should be able to do for themselves without so heavily relying on government aid. Democrats tend to support a more liberal approach to economics, that the Federal Government should be more active in individual businesses, and that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that businesses succeed. This extends into taxation, where the Republicans believe that the government should cut spending and allow more proactivity from citizens in taxation, while Democrats argue that the government knows better than the individual, and should, as true representatives of the voters, decide on their behalf which tax burdens and spending should be made. It is clear than benefits can come from both sides of the political spectrum. One example of this is the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. In essence, the EESA was an act that effectively gave $700 billion to the Treasury department and authorization to use those funds to purchase assets, mortgages, and other financially binding contracts from banks and financial institutions which were lowering ... • 23. The Two Party System: The Black Lives Matter Movement Americans are generally friendly people if they don't know your political alignment. Granted, events such as racism and class stigmatism still exist, but we are likely to be more tolerant of somebody if we don't know their political alignment. However, when it comes to our politics, for whatever reason, Americans have this animosity toward each other. Take the hostile perspectives on climate change, the Black Lives Matter movement, or even the underlying views surrounding the upcoming presidential election. It seems as if we have an ever growing schism between all differing political viewpoints. How many times have you heard "Never talk politics at a dinner party, everyone will hate each other." It seems absurd, yet it's incredibly true. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, the solution to this great political schism lies in two parts. The first of these parts is the media's duty to foster and propagate the spread of multiple perspectives, and to not only present the happenings of the world through a single lens. As was mentioned in a lecture given by Paul Baumann, the magazine Commonweal is a brilliant example of this principle, publishing a counter article to accompany every heavily opinionated article published. However, this cannot be done without the second aspect, which is the open–mindedness and willingness to learn that must be adopted by the general public of America. Rather dismissing an opposing viewpoint as completely irrational, take the time and effort to rationally think through the points made. I can guarantee that more often than not, there will be something everyone agrees to in the opposing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Essay On Republican Party The United States population is spread out across a spectrum of the political ideologies. We are typically seen as being on the "left", also called liberals, or on the "right", called conservatives. The two main political parties in our country are the Democrats, whose supporters are typically on the left, and the Republicans, whose supporters are on the right. These parties and their policies, however, are becoming more polarized and are attracting the more extreme members of their party and not the moderate voters, which make up the majority of the voters. By setting policies that the moderate voters would agree with can help political parties gain more voters, as long as they do not lean too far away from their base groups, or their strongest and more extreme voters. Republicans would gain supporters by changing their policies on free trade agreements, immigration, healthcare, and wall street to those that are more similar to the most of the public. These supporters would come from the moderate voters, like the hard–pressed skeptics and the young outsiders, and some of the other liberal groups, like the next–generation left and the faith and family left. Today the Republican party wants to repeal all free trade agreements. This is in contrast with the majority of the general population, in which 59% believe that free trade agreements are good for our nation and 30% believe that they are bad. The Democrats on the other hand support most of the agreements that are around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Honor in No One Writes to the Colonel and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Garcia–Marquez Every culture in the world has its own unique set of values that they adhere to in life. The most important value to people is their honor. Honor is a very important factor in a person life that they will stop at nothing to make sure it is not lost. This endless pursuit of keeping honor can causes both positive and negative effects to a society. The reason honor is a main driving force in a person's life is for the simple fact that it determines how the society views that person's integrity, honesty and truthfulness to himself and family. The Colonel and his wife consequently starve in order to maintain the honor given by the rooster. They conceal this humiliation of poverty by giving a false illusion of who they are to their neighbors. The Colonel believes that starvation is necessary as long as they are honorable to the liberal party and their son. The wife of the Colonel states "I [place] stones on to boil so the neighbors wouldn't know that we often go with out food for days"(159). The Colonel's wife feels humiliated that they have to live in poverty to maintain honor. In a moment of doubt the Colonel's wife states to the Colonel "you can't eat dignity"(160). Then the author uses a brief interruption in the setting to show incorrectness in the wife's comment. Garcia uses the interruption of lighting to show that what the wife said was wrong and that lying and maintaining their honor is the most important thing to do. This same idea that maintaining honor can cause a person to live a life of lies is seen in the novella Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The whole town covers up and lies about being involved and having any information about Santiago Nasar's death. They do this because they want to honor the Vicario family by making the murder look justifiable and a strict matter of family honor. Many of his ideas and actions have led people to wonder if he truly is a conservative or not. Over the years, it seems that Donald Trump's political ideology has shifted with time. During the late 1990's, he left behind the Republican Party to join the Reform Party. However, within the next couple of years, Donald Trump has once again shifted his views back to one of a conservative. In addition to jumping back and forth between parties, Trump has also said things that go against both of these parties' ideologies, but are similar to the ideas of a liberal. These shifts in views have led people to wonder if Donald Trump is even a true conservative. The man claims to be a Republican, but his previous actions do not help support his claims. Is Donald Trump a true conservative? In the year 2000, Donald Trump ran in the presidential race under the Reform Party. Not many people are familiar with this party because it is not one of the two popular political parties in America. The Reform Party falls in the middle of the political spectrum, that being, they are moderate their ideas. More specifically, a Reformist believes in a moderate fiscal and economic platform mixed with strong calls for ethics and electoral reform based on populist beliefs. • 33. Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt Sinclair Lewis' Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions seemingly followed that religiously, and today's version of the Republican Party is proof that we are not too far off from Lewis' version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis' novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society, business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today's world, set themselves in a political affiliation, generally one that describes the person and how he is. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint. Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his "mechanical" lifestyle, which one could view as someone's break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the Good Citizens' League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife's operation, and he began to preach, "the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts" (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that statement that the Good Citizens' League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party's actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party. If the party was like that over seventy–five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward the contrary yet still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did comparisons between the main three Canadian parties (Liberal, Conservative, NDP) and did a research report to help to understand the correlates of their support. I did a statistical analysis about the mean, median, standard deviation, the lower and upper mean, how males and females behave about the party, the income correlations, linear, nonlinear, monotonic and non–monotonic relationship, null and alternative hypothesis and many more. Literature Review Voting is a standout amongst the most principal parts of political engagement. Numerous political researchers connect voting with the strength of the popularity based process and contend that declining voting rates might be symptomatic of a democratic deficit. Since political support can likewise impact public policy, others are worried that lower investment could bring about strategies that are not really illustrative of key voting demographics, similar to the individuals who tend to vote less. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following this, different core concepts, which are imperative to a definition of politics, will be discussed, in the hope to discover a true and fair interpretation of the word politics. The word politics comes from the Greek word polis, meaning the state or community as a whole. The concept of the polis was an ideal state and came from the writings of great political thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle. In his novel The Republic Plato describes the ideal state and the means to achieve it. The word politics originally has connotations in the ways in which to create the ideal society. An ideal society is in practice a rather difficult aim and even an impossible aim to achieve. Politics implies measures which could and should, in the views of their devisor, be implemented in the hope to create a better society, than that which is already present. The very fact that Plato and Aristotle saw imperfections in the societies, in which they lived, prompted them to write their political philosophies. These philosophies provided the first written recognition of politics. Aristotle believed that man is a political animal, in another words; it lies deep within the instinct of man. According to Aristotle politics was not a dreamt up concept, but rather an inherent feature of mankind. To begin with, the basest premise that underpins the notion of politics should be considered in order to arrive at a fair definition. Man is self–preserving by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, an obituary of a Mr John Pitts suggested that his 'politics were perhaps [my emphasis] conservative', as if his political views were rarely expressed within the context of his Church. Significantly, Lloyd George's status as the 'Moses' leading his people to the promised Land became tarnished by the end of this period due to his adoption of policies that were not in harmony with those of the Church and his association with the Tories. However, today our government has political parties. Political parties attempt to gain control of the government and influence its decisions. The two most influential parties in American government are the Republican and Democratic Party. These two parties have very contrasting beliefs which they present in their platforms. Democrats believe in "the need for intervention by government in the form of more and bigger programs" and agree that there must be fairness in government regulations and freedom of expression. Republicans however, have more conservative values and cultivate the importance of family and the efforts made by individuals. They, unlike the Democratic Party, prefer to keep the power out of the hands of the government. Political parties' business and actions affect every American. In fact, the overwhelming advances that humankind has seen in the last decades in IT (internet, telephone, television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication) are effects of the advance of Telecommunications (normally the word is used in plural because it encompasses different types of means of transmission). From the electrical telegraph of Samuel Morse (1837) to the transmission of voice and image over the Internet (Skype, Hangout etc.), the Telecommunications has developed too much and affected the world and the human being behavior. In recent decades, the United States has experienced an increase in political polarization between the two parties. These extreme views resonate with the Americans that sit at the tips of the ideological spectrum, but the majority of people have more moderate ideologies. Most fall in between the two extremes, holding different combinations of social and economic values that make it difficult to place each person on the traditional linear spectrum. To further analyze voters, a political typology of the United States can be conducted, which further sorts voters into more connected groups based on their attitudes and values. This data has proven to be crucial for political parties when determining what policies to include in their platform, because recent general elections have revealed that the undecided vote plays a large role in determining the winner. In order to maximize the amount of voters the Republican Party receives in the general election, the party must incorporate values and policies in their platform that attracts the maximum amount of moderate voters, without drifting too far away from traditional Republican values to ensure the retention of the constituency. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification and the myth of independents voters. • 67. Compare And Contrast Democrats And Republicans Aida Krafess Rosie Branciforte ENC 1101 April 8, 2013 Democrats and Republicans The United States of America is known to have two major political parties. The Republican party and the democratic one. Both parties are based on views and principles being completely opposites of each other. The Republican party is known to be a conservative party, while the democratic party is known to be liberal. Two concepts that are opposites to each other. The democratic party will most certainly convince the majority of the people that it is the ideal party to remain in office because it promotes economic equality, it advocates civil rights and individual freedom, and because it is a liberal party. The two major U.S political parties have different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Black, 565–483) This means that every working family still pays taxes, however their taxes would be cut, meaning they would be paying less taxes than before. As for the " millionaires" and higher class of society they will still pay the same taxes as they did before. This policy is more likely to be considered as equal because it is not rated fair when people from different social classes with a big difference in their incomes pay the same taxes. Especially because the taxes will eventually be lowered for the lower classes because they would be unable to afford paying the regular and high taxes. This will also lead in the cut of taxes for the high social class, which then makes the whole concept unequal. Not just for the people but also for the national economy (Witcover, 791–545). A democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. The democratic party is also known for being the party of the people. It is the the oldest political party and has origins that fall back all the way to Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson. Thomas Jefferson was one of the founding fathers, one of the main authors of the Declaration of independence, and the third president of the United States. • 69. Party Preference Research Paper Party Preference After researching the beliefs of the two presidential parties in greater detail, I have come to the conclusion that I share more qualities and beliefs with that of a democrat versus a republican because of foreign aid, gun control, and immigration policies. I am convinced that these three issues have helped me further the process in choosing a side because I tend to have more of a liberalistic view, rather than a conservationist view. I've realized that I want change for the benefit of the greater good, rather than for the individual. I also believe that since our society is evolving, our country's views must build new ideals in order to continue what the country values most, peace and freedom. The first topic that I have based my party preference on was the political party's stances on foreign aid. The democratic views on foreign aid policies are that the U.S. should raise the budget to support the more disadvantaged countries to further repair the gap between the wealthy and impoverished. On the other hand, Republicans are more concerned about the U.S., and only see helping others as an alternative in keeping the peace. I believe that in order to keep bonds and have strong connections with other leaders, especially through trade, the budget needs to either stay the same or increase. In situations like the invasion of our country, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The topics that proved that I was more of an equal opportunist rather than only caring about personal gain were foreign aid, gun control, and immigration policies. With the democratic vision, all Americans, including those in the process of immigrating, have the chance to achieve their dreams and pursue their goals. I believe that with these ideals we will be able to strengthen our communities and share the equality and freedom, that everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the United States of America, there exists a two–party system comprised of the U.S. Democratic Party and the U.S. Republican Party. Although these two parties have become somewhat neutral on many issues of national policy, each party has a unique perspective of how the ever–looming Social Security problem should be alleviated. First, the U.S. Democratic Party believes that in order to fix the Social Security problem, pension plans must be reformed and savings incentives must be expanded nationwide. Also, the U.S. Democratic Party has persistently argued against the recent idea of privatizing Social Security. On the other hand, the U.S. Republican Party believes the Social Security system is in need of much more drastic change. According to statistics provided by the official website of the Republican National Committee, "Under the current system, today's 30–year– old worker will face a 26% benefit cut when he or she reaches normal retirement age." Also according to the RNC website, "By 2041, when workers in their mid–20s begin to retire, the system will be bankrupt – unless we act now to save it." In order to fix this troubled system, the U.S. Republican Party believes that the only answer is privatization. Another pressing issue in American politics is the issue of energy.
