Moulding or training of the mind and
character to bring about desired behaviour
is known as discipline.it helps a person to
have some control over another person.
NEED FOR DISCIPLINE
1.Sucessful implementation of an education
programme
2.Personality growth of children
3.Develop confidence in children and
students
4.Essential for teachers for effective teaching
skills
5.Essential in administrative field to control
the subordinates.
AIMS
1.To create and maintain desirable
conditions in classroom and clinical setting
2.To change the attitude towards the job
and work effectively to achieve
organizational goals
3.To gain self control and cooperation
PRINCIPLES
1.Should be well balanced with
ultimate goals of education
2.Should be implemented with love and
understanding but not with fear
3.Should be equal for each and everyone
4.Discipline policies should be preventive
,corrective but not retributive
5.Should increase the responsibility of the
students and confidence
6.Discipline should be attained but not
maintained
7.Should make the students understand
their mistakes or misconduct or in
disciplinary actions and correct them
8.Avoid collective punishments like if 1or 2
students are culpable then you should not
punish the whole class for their mistakes
9.Make sure that no student will be sent out
of the classroom if necessary we have to
punish him within the class room
10.Sending a student to the head of the
institution should be the last resort for a
teacher.
CAUSES OF INDISCIPLINE IN STAFFING
1.Neglect or deference of students
/ employees grievances
2.Faulty disciplinary actions
3.Wrong and improper attitude towards
students/employees problem
4.Wrong placement, remuneration and
promotion
5.Divide and rule policy
6.Inefficient supervisor
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF
ADMINISTRATOR/MANAGER IN MAINTAINING
DISCIPLINE
1.Helping students/employees to identify
themselves with the
school/organizational goals
2.Encouraging students/ employees to
be self-disciplined and comply with the
established rules and regulations
3.Periodically assessing the need for the
existing rules and regulations and
suggesting modifications as necessary
4.Humanistically using discipline as a
means of promoting employee growth
5.Demonstrating sensitivity to the
environment in which discipline is
enforced
6.Being aware of the power and
responsibility, a formal authority has to
set rules and discipline employees
7.Ensuring that rules and regulations are
unambiguously written and
communicated to subordinates
8. Serving in the role of coach to tackle lack of
performance
9.Enforcing established rules in a fair and
equitable manner
10.Discussing rules and regulations with
students/subordinates, explaining the rationale
and resolving queries
11.Carefully documenting student's/employee's
conduct that invites disciplinary action and
counseling the student/employee
12.Judiciously using the official authority to
take progressively stronger disciplinary measures
when employees continuously fail to meet
expectations
13.Bringing in the students/union employees
under discipline, using the disciplinary measures
provided in the accepted code of conduct
14.Advising students/ employees on how to
seek redressal in disciplinary matters
15. Using efficient communication skills to
a. clearly explain the nature and seriousness of
disciplinary problems,
b.allow student's/employee's feedback in the
disciplinary process,
C. explain disciplinary actions to be taken and
their rationale,

NEED FOR DISCIPLINE 1.Sucessful implementation of an education programme 2.Personality growth of children 3.Develop confidence in children and students 4.Essential for teachers for effective teaching skills 5.Essential in administrative field to control the subordinates. AIMS 1.To create and maintain desirable conditions in classroom and clinical setting 2.To change the attitude towards the job and work effectively to achieve organizational goals
  • 3. 3.To gain self control and cooperation PRINCIPLES 1.Should be well balanced with ultimate goals of education 2.Should be implemented with love and understanding but not with fear 3.Should be equal for each and everyone 4.Discipline policies should be preventive ,corrective but not retributive 5.Should increase the responsibility of the students and confidence 6.Discipline should be attained but not maintained 7.Should make the students understand their mistakes or misconduct or in disciplinary actions and correct them 8.Avoid collective punishments like if 1or 2 students are culpable then you should not punish the whole class for their mistakes
