BEED III-HS ACTIVITY # 1

“How do consensus and conflict theories
         influenced the teaching profession?”

According to my interviewee, Mr. Ryan Dale Egipto, there so

many instances that affect his work by Conflict Theory, in a way

that in the advent of new curriculum, (K to 12 Program); energetic

yet hyperactive learners, emergence of new policies or laws

regarding child-rearing and discipline and some other more: open-

mindedness is needed. All mentioned above create conflicts to the

conflicting minds of Filipinos: professionals, common people,

educated and non-educated. In Conflict Theory for some teachers

for example, you a have a students’ that are rich and also you have

a students’ that are not too rich, all the favors of you was only at

your students which is rich. In this situation there is an

inequality between the students because in conflict theory the

more you richer the more you have the power, it is all about class

conflict.

In the consensus theory, CHANGES. This very word is the

major fear of most Filipinos. Why? Filipinos are naturally

resistant to changes. According to Psychologists, it takes twenty-

one days to learn a new habit. It shows that, we learn habit by

practice. “We are what we habitually do” Confucius said. It needs

openness and acceptance. But on others, agreement to the ideas of
others is an adventure. Some will subject themselves to getting-to-

know-how practice. But before somebody will fully submit himself

to certain change, it will take a lot of effort in learning new

things. Not in answering the why’s and how’s but in pacifying your

PURPOSE for change. In Consensus Theory, for example he has

students that are hard to speak straight tagalog and hard to adapt

the new environment because he came from the province, so him as

a teacher is the one who make more adjustment.

In the end, what we want is what we get. Because NEED is

sometimes forget and neglected and most of the times, set aside

for WANT. We are not only entitled to our opinions and ideas, it is

a gift from the Almighty. To choose what we tend to believe what

we want whatever the end result- good or bad.

For me as a future mentor, the conflict theory is a struggle

or battles, meaning to say that sometimes there have a destructive

effect between the classes, or groups of students. This is why the

Conflict Theory stresses the humans or the people because of lot of

things which includes a social class and there is an agreement

among the members of a particular society about norms, values,

rules and regulations, to come into collision be in mutual opposition

clash, and they have a different ways. Consensus Theory on the

other hand is a collective opinion or general agreement about

society functions by all parts working together to wake a society.
