When You're
Depressed
Depression can be a very difficult thing to
overcome. If you feel it starting to set
in, take immediate action, to get your mind
and life back on track.

Get Outdoors
A simple change of scenery
and fresh air can do you a
world of good. Just take a walk
around the block or rake the
backyard. It should give at least
a little boost to your mood right
away. Give yourself a task if
that will convince you to get out
more.

Visit With a Friend
Expressing your feelings when depression
sets in is crucial to recovery. Find someone
you know well enough to feel comfortable
with and get together.

While it may help to tell your friend what's
going on with you, it isn't completely
necessary. Just tell them you've missed
their company and needed a chat. Go out
for lunch or to a movie.

Take Care of Your Body
Sleep and nutrition are
very important when
you're feeling
depressed, because not
taking good care can
exacerbate all the
symptoms. Make a point
of getting a good night's
sleep and feeding
yourself well. Drink plenty

Try a New Hobby
Introducing your brain to a fun new activity
can sometimes be all you need to raise your
spirits. Even if it doesn't get you over the
depression, it can stop it from getting worse.
Try something to do with art or music. Self-
expression through art can be very
therapeutic too.

Talk To a Professional
If you simply can't shake your depression,
or you find it's taking over your life, call a
doctor. Sadly, many people allow
depression to spiral out of control. As you
probably know, feeling depressed can take
you to a very dark place. Take steps to get
help before then.

Never take the signs of depression lightly!
Learn to recognize them quickly so it
doesn't sneak up on you, and do
something about the situation right away.
