INTRODUCTION
Since 1962 and the beginning of the discount retailer market Wal–Mart has been ahead of the retail
game. By 1967 there were 24 Wal–Marts that had grossed 12.6 million dollars. In just 7 years Wal–
mart had spread into 9 states. By 1979 Wal–Mart was the fastest store to reach a billion dollars in
sales. In 2005 Wal–Mart has 3,800 domestic stores along with 3,800 stores internationally, and had
made over 312 billion dollars. As you can see the Wal–Mart empire has grown monumentally. To
move into this segment of the market would be tough.

Inventory from China is now reaching 18 billion dollars, and has increased 20 percent over the past
two years. Currently over 5,000 suppliers have steady alliances with Wal–Mart. Not only does this
benefit U.S. customers by keeping prices down, but it keeps the Wal–Mart corp. very well received
by the Chinese people. A large portion of the world's population is located in China being a
respected company in this part of the world will greatly increase sales. Wal–Mart is, however,
responsible for 10 percent of the countries trade deficit to China.

most recent advance is an in store clinic. Even with these amenities it is still far behind Wal–Mart in
the services department.
Maybe the biggest difference in the two Companies would be marketing campaigns. Wal–Mart
markets towards the lowest income families. Wal–Mart markets by showing low prices, or how they
are lowering prices. Target markets towards the middle class, and it shows that they have the goods

For my low (mass) market I chose Primark, which offers fast fashion at low prices. This particular
retailer has to supply on high demand on mass, to a specific market where their products are bought
mainly on price rather than quality. For the merchandiser this means sourcing their supplies at low
cost. Therefore being able to sell at a lower price, demanding the merchandiser to use good
negotiation with suppliers to achieve this. For my middle market retailer I chose Next, which is
directed at a different consumer than that of Primark and the price range is higher also. For this
specific retailer the merchandiser has to think about a higher quality of product that the customer
can invest in, such as workwear. The merchandiser has to invest time communicating with buyer on
a budget that will still be able to turn a profit for the business. For my third retailer I chose Harvey

George Draper Dayton formed the Dayton Dry Goods Company in 1902. Back in 1962, Target

you had to be willing to participate in a follow up questionnaire, following your 5th day after
discharge from the ED. Those participants that did not meet criteria were excluded from the study.
Variables
The ultimate goal of this study is to identify if patient care is compromised. We will use this as our
dependent variable. As we assessed the information obtained from the sample group and the nursing
interviews, it was determined that if we had alternated days that the questionnaires were distributed

It is still, however, debating whether to allow 26 per cent or 49 per cent FDI in the sector. Benefits of FDI in Retail Sector: Higher competition would lead to higher quality in products and services. Better lifestyle as better products would be introduced. Exports would increase due to greater sourcing of major players. Investment in whole supply chain would increase. Technology would be upgraded in terms of logistics, production, and distribution channels. The markets of the sector would flourish and develop. Employment would increase and skills & manpower will develop. A strong retailing sector would promote tourism. Economies of scale would help lower consumer prices and increase the purchasing power of the consumer. In the long term it will be beneficial in the up–gradation of agriculture and small scale & medium scale industries. Supportive policy The government has been opening up various sectors and privatize some sectors (telecom, aviation, insurance and energy). This shows its positive attitude to FDI inflows, Retailing has already been looked at as a prospective area for FDI. The Government is also promoting investment in supply chains and infrastructure like real estate through FDI to facilitate retail growth.
