Rotted soldiers, sluggish mud and hazardous gases make the trench smells disgusting. The
conditions in the trench are abominably slimy and muddy, affecting some soldiers to be subject to
trench foot, and leading to the use of whale oil prescriptions. Rats and lice are everywhere spreading
contamination in the entire trench. Because of the deprived hygiene, some of our assistants were
harmfully altered by trench fever and influenza. In addition, there is a shortage in our food supply,
and an inadequate drinking water, which makes us very tired during the war. Furthermore, at night,
we rarely sleep because Germans are trying to suffocate us by throwing poisonous gases like
