Major Characteristics Of A Philippine Culture
Philippine Cultural Awareness Culture is the shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive
constructs, and affective understanding that is learned through a process of socialization. These
shared patterns, identify the members of a culture group while also distinguishing those of another
group. Five major characteristics of a Philippine culture include family, beliefs, customs, food, and
language. In this essay geography and military conflict history, weather analysis, and civil
considerations will be discussed. I will also cover how the terrain and infrastructure,
communication, and past military conflicts impacted their society. Population, agriculture,

With past conflicts with the Spanish and Asian countries, it is apparent that the Filipinos have picked
up a number of their tendencies along with their culture. The weather of the Philippines has had a
substantial effect on population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency. With an average of
seventy–four degrees Fahrenheit year round; mean summer the highs stay around one–hundred
degrees with the winters only dropping forty–eight degrees Fahrenheit. The Philippines had a
population growth rate of 1.51% in 2017, which is one of the highest in the Asian countries. The
weather has also helped with agriculture. With its main agricultural crops, rice, corn, coconut,
sugarcane, bananas, pineapple, coffee, mangoes, tobacco, and abaca (which is a banana–like plant),
the Philippines thrives with agriculture. Smuggling has always been a huge problem. In 2012,
According to the International Monterey Fund's Direction of Trade Statistics, the value of smuggling
reached $19.6 billion. Insurgencies in the Philippines go as far back as the Spanish rule in the
1800's. Ongoing insurgencies date back to the 1940's with farmers and landlords, government power
struggles, communistic views, and of course religion. The areas, structures, capabilities,
organizations, people, and events I will cover are significant to military counterinsurgency
operations. The areas and structures most significant to insurgency, in my opinion, would be Manila
and the surrounding cities due to

The Hispanic Influence in the Phillapines
We define culture as the manifestation of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively
(Mangahas). Culture is very important to each country in this world. It is crucial to the makeup of a
country and the diversity each country has. Today in the Philippines, the Hispanic influence is seen
everywhere you go. In the past, the Philippines governed by both Mexico and Spain. Influences you
will see are the language, food, and dance. Influences from the US are the use of English language
and the modern pop cultural. Religion is an important part of a country's culture. Majority of the
Filipino population is Roman Catholic. Catholics makeup about 82% of the religions practiced. The
next biggest religion is Islam. Muslims makeup around 5% ... Show more content on

They saw what independent control looked like and wanted the same for themselves. They came
back to the Philippines viewing the Spanish rule with distain and hatred. A small revolt occurred
into place in 1872 that did not accomplish what they wanted but set up another revolt that would
happen twenty years later. In 1892, nationalists began to organize within secretly. They were all
committed to independence and would do whatever it took to gain it. In 1895, Emilio Anguinaldo
became its leader in the Cavite Province. In 1896, the revolutionists began the fighting in Manila.
Once they attacked the capital, the revolt quickly spread throughout the country (Mangahas). The
Americans entered the war wanting to end the Spanish rule of the Philippines. This was the start of
the Spanish American War in the Pacific. The first battle that the Americans fought against the
Spanish was the Battle of Manila Bay. The United States Navy commander, Commodore George
Dewey, was aboard the USS Olympia. The squadron defeated the Spanish squadron in less than
three hours. They destroyed the squadron and took control of the harbor at Manila Bay. After this
battle, the bay had ships from Britain, Germany, and France. The Germans were there to protect
German interests but were constantly being a pain for the Americans. A move that changed the war
was Commodore Dewey brought back the Revolutionary leader back from exile. Emilio Anguinaldo

Starbucks Success Factors
As the graph shows above, Coffee production in the Philippines grows every year but during 2010
and 2011 it stabilizes until 2014 and from 2014–2015, it is predicted to increase. This is because of
growing demand of coffee in the Philippines and Filipinos find that coffee harvesting is a good
business here in the Philippines. Coffee Production in different islands of the Philippines The table
shows that most coffee production is in Mindanao but South Luzon has the biggest area that should
have harvested more coffee throughout. The least that produces coffee is north Luzon resulting to
only 1,425 metric tons. Further Explanation: The supply of coffee in the Philippines is continuous
yet as the demand increases so as more supply is needed. There are different kinds of coffee that ...

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Canada And Hong Kong
It was the night before leaving Canada and flying over to the Philippines. the Philippines and Hong
Kong are considered my "home". I haven't visit there for four years, I said to myself " Tomorrow
will be the biggest change in my whole life." When I woke up in the morning inside the airplane, I
saw the sun shining in my eyes as the airplane landed at the airport. When I stepped out of the plane,
I saw the fresh, green and the muddy land of Philippines. The feeling of arriving to the airport is
unbelievable and amazing at the same time. I saw my loving grandma and my awesome uncle. They
greeted me and my family with a warm and gentle hug. My grandma cried with happiness. It took a

them. I walked and walked to find a bakery shop, I found a shop that sells egg tarts. When I bit into
it, it tasted so delicious like passing out and going to paradise, it was also one of the best egg tarts I
have ever eaten in my whole life. I walked to my primary school, nobody was in the school since it's

Advantages Of Anti Dynasty In The Philippines
There is political dynasty when members of the same family or clan has dominated or occupied
elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or simultaneously across different
positions, this is now a problem in Philippine politics that the government itself cannot solve. Why?
Because majority of the people seated in position are members of political dynasties. They want to
stay in office because of the strong desire for power, greed, and authority. But why are they still
seated even though we have the power to vote? When almost all of us are aware that they come from
the same dynasty? We cannot blame the Filipino people for that. Because these people are so greedy
that they use their money, influence, and wealth to exploit our votes. In that way, they will dominate
politics. I would try to lay down some reasons why I am in favor of passing an anti–dynasty law
here in the Philippines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his statement, "There is something inherently wrong in giving a corrupt family or individual the
chance at an indefinite monopoly in public office... I believe it is now time to pass an Anti–Dynasty
Law." I strongly agree with this statement. It is now time that political dynasties should come to a
stop. First, it is unconstitutional. According to Article II Section 26 of the 1987 Constitution:The
State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and prohibit political dynasties
as may be defined by law." With this we can understand that political dynasty should not be
tolerated because it is a crime, it does not abide the Law of the land. With political dynasties
existing, equal access to opportunities has been deprived from those who have the passion to hold

Political corruption in the Philippines In the Philippines, there is an abundance of political
corruption..This corruption can be stopped if Rodrigo Duterte stays as president and doesn't get
impeached. Political corruption has been in the Philippines since the 1960s. During the 1960s is
when president Ferdinand Marcos was elected. Ferdinand Marcos was president from 1965 to 1986.
But before he was president he also had many other political jobs.
Ferdinand Marcos or Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos, Sr. which is his full name was born on

He also became the executive vice president of the Liberal Party in and served as the party 's
president from 1961 to 1964. From 1963 to 1965, he became the Senate President. He was the last
Senate President to become the actual president of the Philippines.(Seagrave, Sterling. The Marcos
Dynasty) With all of this experience, he was eventually elected president of the Philippines.
My dad told me in an interview about Ferdinand Marcos "I remember that during the early part of
Marcos presidency; his intentions were good, but somehow greed and power got the better part of
him." (Political Corruption in the Philippines.) Ferdinand Marcos stayed as a "president" for 21
years because he declared something known as martial law. The martial law removes all power from
the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. (Martial Law – Well
Prepared) This would go against "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" Article 21
"Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely
chosen representatives" ("Universal Declaration Of Human Rights | United Nations".)This violates
"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" because he is stripping the power from the people
and only giving it to himself. From the martial law, Ferdinand Marcos got tremendous power and

(AFFIRMATIVE SIDE/ PRO – FOR DEBATE) Few days ago, the Senate approved on final reading
a bill amending Republic Act No. 9344, otherwise known as the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of
2006, in order to improve its implementation. I AM IN FAVOR OF THIS GREAT ACT BY OUR
LAWMAKERS. We all know that Republic Act No. 9344 has been intended to protect the welfare
of children in conflict with the law, majority of who are guilty of petty crimes such as petty theft,
vagrancy and sniffing glue. Prior to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, children in
conflict with the law were thrown into the same prison cells as hardened criminals. Studies show

The bill aims to amend Republic Act 9344, the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, passed six years
ago. I AM NOT IN FAVOR OF SUCH MOVE BY OUR LAWMAKERS. My stand is not to amend
the Juvenile Justice Law but call for its effective implementation instead. Lowering the age of
criminal responsibility constitutes a grave breach on the convention on the rights of the child to
which the Philippines has ratified and acceded. Our country must always be guided by the United
Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice, more commonly
known as the "Beijing Rules", which is a framework to consider in determining the age of criminal
responsibility. The Beijing Rules recommends that the minimum age of criminal responsibility
"shall not be fixed at too low an age level, bearing in mind the facts of emotional, mental and
intellectual maturity." Our opponents contend that the increasing number of children involved in
heinous crimes as the primary reason for amending the law. But the results of an online poll on the
House of Representatives ' website show that public opinion is on civil society 's side, with the
majority not in favor of the amendment. Online House poll shows majority disagree with lowering
the age of criminal liability. Asked if lowering the age of criminal responsibility is a justifiable

The Battle Of The Spanish American War
Lucy Chung Professor Hawkins HIS 173 B 16 December 2014 America was enthusiastic when the
results of the Spanish–American war provided them with an opportune time to finally be able to
implement and exercise their political ideologies on smaller and more vulnerable nations. They
believed very confidently that they could successfully restructure these nations, acquired from the
Treaty of Paris, to construct municipal governments that would reflect the American–styled
democratic system. Americans set forth various Colonial projects that would provide these small
nations with "proper" political education with the expectation that they would be able self–govern
accordingly. They wanted to instill ideologies of free trade, democracy, and maybe even the sense of
justice and liberty that Americans felt was God's truth. In this argument, I believe the failures of the
initial Philippine colonial project not only retrogressed the islanders back into their primitive
informal aristocracy but actually help unify and modernize a regime that was the complete reversal
of American intentions. The result of the type of Filipino government after reconstruction were
significantly constrained by Anti–Imperialists tensions from the metropole and continued to reshape
itself by many additional constraints from the Filipino legislation. Only about fifty years later of
political administration would enable the development of an autonomic government. The
implementation of the colonial project for

Philippine History Early History –The Negritos are believed to have migrated to the Philippines
some 30,000 years ago from Borneo, Sumatra, and Malaya. The Malayans followed in successive
waves. These people belonged to a primitive epoch of Malayan culture, which has apparently
survived to this day among certain groups such as the Igorots. The Malayan tribes that came later
had more highly developed material cultures. In the 14th cent. Arab traders from Malay and Borneo
introduced Islam into the southern islands and extended their influence as far north as Luzon. The
first Europeans to visit (1521) the Philippines were those in the Spanish expedition around the world

The Filipinos had also declared their independence and established a republic under the first
democratic constitution ever known in Asia. Their dreams of independence were crushed when the
Philippines were transferred from Spain to the United States in the Treaty of Paris (1898), which
closed the Spanish–American War. In Feb., 1899, Aguinaldo led a new revolt, this time against U.S.
rule. Defeated on the battlefield, the Filipinos turned to guerrilla warfare, and their subjugation
became a mammoth project for the United States–one that cost far more money and took far more
lives than the Spanish–American War. The insurrection was effectively ended with the capture
(1901) of Aguinaldo by Gen. Frederick Funston, but the question of Philippine independence
remained a burning issue in the politics of both the United States and the islands. The matter was
complicated by the growing economic ties between the two countries. Although comparatively little
American capital was invested in island industries, U.S. trade bulked larger and larger until the
Philippines became almost entirely dependent upon the American market. Free trade, established by
an act of 1909, was expanded in 1913. When the Democrats came into power in 1913, measures
were taken to effect a smooth transition to self–rule. The Philippine assembly already had a
popularly elected lower house, and the Jones Act, passed by the U.S. Congress in 1916, provided for

Erc Essay
It can be said that ERC's independence is formally shielded under its enabling law from potential
undue infuence from any government body that exercises authority over it. As earlier discussed, the
ERC is an independent body that is not attached to, nor under the control or supervision of another
government agency. The EPIRA does not likewise provide any formal coordination mechanism
betweeen the ERC and the DOE, the government agency that exercises supervision of the
restructuring of the electric power industry. Thus, unlike in Ontario where the OEB Act authorizes
the Minister to issue directives on specified subjects to the OEB, and requires the OEB to implement
those directives, the DOE Secretary does not have the same authority ... Show more content on

Therefter, the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Philippine Congress, and which is
predominantly dominated by the coalition of the ruling party, likewise threatened to abolish the ERC
allegedly due to corruption amoung its officials. The threat was not carried out, but the House of
Representatives only granted the ERC a budget equivalent to PhP 1,000 or CAD 30. After much
deliberation and following the bicameral conference between the House of Representatives and the
Philippine Senate, the budget of the ERC was restored to more manageable levels. Eventually, the
Office of the President dismissed the Chairperson of the ERC for grave misconduct with respect to
the procurement of audio–visual presentation project, and simple misconduct for renewing seven
electric power purchase agreements and for appointing officers and personnel without the
concurrence and approval of the commissioners ("Palace fires", 2017). This recent experience only
confirms that while the ERC's independence as a quasi–judicial and quasi–legislative body is
enshrined in its enabling legislation, this is not a guarantee that it will be independent of political
processes. In this case, its independence as an institution was threatened no less than by the
President (who has the appointing power) and from the Philippine House of Representatives (which
has power over its budget). In other words, while the legislation is clear that the

The Political Party Development Act
This chapter elaborates on three proposed political reform agenda this paper discusses. The Political
party development act deals with providing minimal standards for party operations. It also prohibits
party switching while encouraging party loyalty and discipline. By amending the Party–list system
act of 1995, the definition of party–list sort out. It is for proportional representation, as what the
Constitution states. Thus, this amendment ensures party–list groups to receive a state subsidy for
development. The upcoming Constitutional amendment should also include electoral reforms. A
clear definition of what forms a party and a party–list is essential to not create confusion. These
three proposals intertwine and cross–cut to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Party switching or political turncoats are when a member of a party of a party changes affiliation
after being nominated by the party. This bill punishes any politicians and candidates who switch
parties while in office. They can be disqualified from running for any elective position and
prohibited from holding public office for 3 years. They cannot take any executive or administrative
position in their political party. They must refund all subsidies they received with a surcharge of 25
percent. Parties are also required to have a merit system for the nomination and selection of their
candidates. This promotes party loyalty and discipline among party members. Stability and order are
possible because there is a clear procedure on the governance of political parties. This clear structure
also produces legitimacy for the political party system. This bill helps in strengthening parties and
institutionalizing rules and behaviours. It makes parties coherent, and valuable. Thus, they can
conduct party activities and function during and after an election.

Annexation Of The Philippines Created The American Empire...
Annexation of the Philippines Created the American Empire The history of the world is one filled
with war, brutality, and greed from nations exerting their might to gain power or land. Driven by
greed, history is written by the wants and desires of nations to become larger, wealthier, at the
expense of those smaller forms a never–ending cycle from the time of the earliest writings, to
modern days. The United States is no different. From the time we occupied the east coast, driving
the Native Americans west, to our westward expansion, further driving the Native Americans and
Mexico out of their lands, we have never been satisfied. Once we reached the west coast, our eyes
began scanning across the oceans. With the country secure, the United States needed foreign lands
to establish the empire. The Philippines would provide this opportunity for us. The Spanish–
American war delivered the opportunity for America's entry into the Philippines. The annexation of
the Philippines transformed the United States into an empire and better prepared the Filipino people
for independence.
Snapshot of the Philippines To justify the case for the annexation of the Philippines, we must first
look at a snapshot of the Philippine archipelago to understand the advantages the islands provided
the United States. The Philippines was a vast chain consisting of over 7,000 islands, with 74
provinces, 43 different ethnic groups, and 87 different spoken languages. The population around

Compare And Contrast The Political System Of Indonesia And...
Indonesia and Philippines have similarities yet very different political system even though there are
located in the Southeast Asia region. Both states are considered to be electoral democratic regime
according to Larry Diamond's sixfold typology (Dayley & Neher, 2013, p. 21). Interestingly, both
states received a relatively good freedom rating in Southeast Asia by Freedom House in 2016, which

assignment as the non–democratic regime states for the comparison analysis.
This assignment is aimed to justify Indonesia and Philippines as the electoral democratic regime
states but not complete democratic states[ Considering the Diamond's sixfold typology, electoral
democratic regime is not considered a total democracy regime as it does not meet all the criteria of

INTRODUCTION
The problem on solid waste management is one of many environmental concerns of the country. The
irresponsible dumping of wastes into river, along the streets and drainage systems cause water
pollution, floods, and traffic. People who live along coastal areas have become accustomed to the
situation where unsightly garbage dumps remain uncollected, unmindful of the trash scattered
around them. Because of waste uncollected, they just dump their households' wastes along the
coastal shores causing the pollution of the immediate surrounding of the sea. Garbage dumps also
pose dangers to human health because these places breed insects and other pests.
Due to the uncontrollable dumping of wastes that causes environmental degradation, the
government passed a law on solid waste management. The Republic Act No. 9003 which is "an act
providing for an ecological solid waste management program, creating the necessary institutional

In February, 1899, Aguinaldo led a new revolt, the Philippine–American War. The U.S. captured of
Aguinaldo on March 23, 1901 and in 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed a full and
complete pardon and amnesty to all people in the Philippine archipelago who had participated in the
conflict, effectively ending the war. After World War II, Manuel Roxas became the first president of
the Republic of the Philippines when independence was granted, as scheduled, on July 4, 1946 from
the United States. As time went along, the Philippines had more presidents after Roxas, including
Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay, Carlos P. García, and Diosdado Macapagal, all who served 4–
year terms. Then, the president after Macapagal, Ferdinand E. Marcos, served as president from
1965 to 1986. During this time, government corruption and civil disorder increased. After a series of
fraud attempts in the 1986 elections, Marcos lost his support and Corazon Aquino became president.

Katipunan. An association called Kataastaasan Kagalang–galang na Katipunan nang mga Anak ng
Bayan or Katipunan was founded on July 7, 1892 after the arrest of Dr. Jose Rizal due to his

Katipunan is a secret organization which had three aims: political, moral and civic. Politically,

and pluralist ideals. These were embodied in the following provisions: the distribution of power in
three separate branches of government, (1) a legislature which was unicameral– the "Assembly" of
elected representatives, (2) the Executive branch, represented by the President supported by a
Cabinet, and (3) the Judiciary composed of the Supreme Court, headed by a Chief Justice who was
elected by the Assembly, and lower courts. The Constitution also protected the people against the
abuse of power with a registry of individual and national rights, and instilled with the principle that

What Did The Maoist Insurgency Influence The Declaration...
Extended Essay Draft
"To what extent did the Maoist Insurgency influence the declaration of Martial law in the
Philippines on 1972?"
"What events influenced the decision to declare Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972?"
Introduction:
As a Filipina living as an expatriate, I have travelled and lived around the world and meeting new
people and other Filipinos with different backgrounds. I was interested to what specific event
affected their belief. The Martial law in 1972 is a major event in the history of the Philippines that
caused disorder and violence against the Marcos government and this event modernized the country
in terms of government and the Filipinos. There are many books written on the effects of the Martial
law to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This law is the exercise imposed by the government and control by military authorities over the
civilian population. Martial law is the declared either when there is near–violent civil unrest or
major natural disasters, however most countries use a different legal construct like "state of
emergency". The imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil laws, civil
rights, habeas corpus, and the application of military justice to civilians. Civilians defying martial
law may be subjected to military tribunals.
Martial law in the Philippines was publicly declared nationwide on September 23, 1972. Around
7:15pm, he broadcasted in television his proclamation of Martial law and placing the control under
the Armed Forces of the Philippines. In this situation, the president declared martial law because
there was near–violent civil unrest in the Philippine society. It was lifted on January 17, 1981.
President Ferdinand Marcos was holding the presidency of the Philippines for 20 years from 1966–
1986. He ruled the country as a dictator and is known for running a corrupt and undemocratic
regime.
The declaration of martial in 1972 by President Marcos was his claim that it was the last defence
against the rising disorder caused by increasing student demonstrations, the alleged threats of
communist insurgency by the Communist Party of the Philippines and the Muslim Separatists
Movement of the Moro National Liberation Front.

"Imperialism in America" For a brief period of time, America became the exact thing it once strived
to defeat: an imperialist. The moment the Treaty of Paris was signed on February 6, 1899, America
became an imperialist. America was divided on the issue of imperialism. Some said that imperialism
was wrong because it was against everything our nation was founded upon. Others saw imperialism
as a chance to exploit people and land to earn power and prestige. The following paragraphs will
explore America's experimentation with imperialism in the Philippines. During the Spanish–
American War, America outright won Puerto Rico and Cuba by defeating the Spanish in each area.
At the end of the war, the Spanish were not defeated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this thought process, we were doing them a favor by making sure they would not go to hell.
Liberals were strongly against imperialism. Liberals are strong believers in benefiting lower classes,
and a war for imperialism was not going to help the lower classes. In fact, the lower classes would
be exploited and sent to fight the war, possibly giving their lives for something that would not help
them at all. Having a strong, defensive military would also mean imperialism was not necessary.
With a defensive military we would not need to patrol the seas, thus removing the need for gas
stations and military bases. Gas stations and military bases were an objective of imperialism, and if
we do not need them, imperialism is not needed, either. Liberals did not believe in forcing a religion
on anyone, either. It was morally wrong to do so, and it was not supported by the liberals during the
Philippine Insurrection. America's acquisition of the Philippines was a very controversial issue in
America. Though liberals and much of the country did not support imperialism, America became an
imperialist anyway. The Machine, which controlled the government and economy, saw their own
personal gain in imperialism. Sure enough, they influenced America to become imperialists.
America saw both the benefits and the harms that can result from imperialism. Without imperialism,
though, America may not be as

EPIRA Essay
It can be said that its enabling law, the EPIRA, formally shielded ERC's independence from
potential undue influence from any government body that exercises authority over it. As earlier
discussed, the EPIRA created the ERC as an independent body that is not attached to, nor under the
control or supervision of another government agency. The EPIRA does not likewise provide any
formal coordination mechanism between the ERC and the DOE, the government agency that
exercises supervision of the restructuring of the electric power industry. Thus, unlike in Ontario,
where the OEB Act authorizes the Minister to issue directives on specified subjects to the OEB and
requires the OEB to implement those directives, the DOE Secretary does not ... Show more content

Thereafter, the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Philippine Congress, likewise
threatened to abolish the ERC allegedly due to corruption among its officials. The House of
Representatives is predominantly dominated by the coalition of the ruling party, the President's
party. The House of Representatives, however, eventually softened on its threat, but only granted the
ERC a budget equivalent to PhP 1,000 or CAD 30. After much deliberation in the bicameral
conference between the House of Representatives and the Philippine Senate, the Philippine
Congress restored ERC's budget to more manageable levels. Eventually, the Office of the President
dismissed the Chairperson of the ERC for grave misconduct with respect to the procurement of
audio–visual presentation project, and simple misconduct for renewing seven electric power
purchase agreements and for appointing officers and personnel without the concurrence and
approval of the rest of the commissioners ("Palace fires", 2017). This recent experience only
confirms that while the ERC's independence as a quasi–judicial and quasi–legislative body is
enshrined in its enabling legislation, this is not a guarantee that it will be independent of political
processes. In this case, its independence as an institution was

From June to October the Philippine Islands are sometimes struck by typhoons, which sometimes
cause great damage. The Philippines have very many mineral and forest resources. The principal
minerals are gold, copper, iron, chromite, manganese, salt, and coal. Other minerals found here
include silver, lead, mercury, limestone, petroleum, nickel, and uranium. Forests cover 23% of the
Philippines. Some of these trees are the banyan, many different kinds of palm, and many indigenous
trees with extremely hard wood such as apitong, yacal, lauan, camagón, ipil, white and red narra,
and mayapis. Bamboo, cinnamon cloves, and pepper plants grow wild, and so does many other
kinds of orchid. One of the most valuable plants is the abaca, a plantain, and the fiber that is used to
make cordage, textiles, and hats. Mangrove trees and nipa palms grow in coastal swamps.
Considerable areas of the uplands are covered by coarse grasses, of little value, for cattle. Few
mammals are found on the islands, but there are many reptiles. The islands also have 556 species of
birds. Coastal waters are filled with marine life, mainly mollusks, which the Philippines are well
known for. There are huge amounts of pearl oysters around the Sulu Archipelago. About 32% of the
land is farmland. In the northern islands the soils are mainly originated from volcanic rock. Coral
limestone is an important part of the soils in the southern islands. In general the soils of the islands

The Evolution Of Democracy : Cleisthens And Athenian...
The word democratic is a combination of an element demos and Kratos. Demos meant
"neighborhood" and Kratos meant "power." After the overthrow of the Peisistratid tyranny, Athens
needed a new leader. After few conflicts, Athenian decided to make Cleisthenes their new leader
who defeated the tyranny in Athens with the help of his party. Cleisthenes then slowly created
democracy in his country. I argue that American democracy started the same way as Athenians
democracy did because Athenians had a similar government as we do in modern times. They had an
assembly, Council, and Popular Courts, which worked similar to our government. Also in Athens,
women, children, slaves, and non–citizen had no voice in politics just like American government
when it started, only the male citizen had a voice in the policy and was superior to other. They also
expanded their territory in a similar way such as, how they slowly took over more lands to expand
their empire, by offering them peace or take it by force. Cleisthenes started Athens democracy, "He
divided the population into ten tribes instead of the old four... (Reilly) " His purpose was to give
every citizen a voice in politics by dividing them into smaller groups. He also increased the size of
council, with each tribe contributing 50 members. In modern days you could say that the council is
the Congress, made with Senate and House of Representatives. The council was not voted in like the
current Congress; they were volunteers who were

poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance." However, despite this
and all of the actions done by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) groups, gender
discrimination is still visible in our country especially in the sectors of employment, education and

Miss Pao Alcantara (personal communication, November 15, 2013), a member of the organization
of LGBT students from the University of the Philippines, told us through an interview that:
It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it's really hard to come out
as an LGBT because of the fear that our families won't accept us, or people will judge us because of
our sexual orientation and gender identity. We also see discrimination everywhere, from the
companies not accepting transgender applicants, or firing employees who do homosexual acts.... For
now, it's really difficult. But I hope that it will change through time.
Recent studies reveal that more big companies abroad are now accepting LGBT in their companies.
Discrimination among these LGBT is diminishing in other countries. They can get promoted and are
given greater work responsibilities based on their abilities (Hewlett & Sumberg, 2011). According to
a 1996 Newsweek magazine poll cited by Fitch (1997), a majority of American voters and even
successful companies are conformed in the equality for gays and lesbians in the workplace.
Likewise, Human Rights Campaign studies revealed that more than 300 employers are also giving

The Political Environment Of The Philippines
Political Environment To begin, the political environment of the Philippines should firstly be
addressed. In the modern day Philippines, they have established a multi–party democracy which has
an elected president along with its legislature. Their democracy is set up exactly the same as ours in
the United States. They have the framework of where the president is both the head of state as well
as the government in general. Similarly their system is composed of the three independent branches
which are the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Under the leadership of the president, the
executive branch makes the decisions for the government/country body as a whole; Congress– the
Senate and the House of Representatives, controls the legislative branch; and the Supreme Court,
held as the highest judicial body they have, is vested within the courts of the Philippines. Within
their country contrary to ours, they hold elections every three years instead of our two. These
elections have been held on the second Monday of May since 1992. The winners of these elections
begin their time in office on the following June 30th. Although the Philippines have a democracy,
not all of the regions within it have political power. Within the local government's cities, provinces,
municipalities and barangays, some regions merely exist just for the use of administrative purposes.

Shifting Of A Parliamentary System
Shifting To a Parliamentary System The Philippines has always been known to have a Presidential
system of government, but I believe that this type of governing isn 't really fit for our country
considering that our nation/the people cannot really make a responsible decision for themselves,
considering that this is a democracy which it should be run by the people. There are many reasons
why the Presidential system isn 't very reliable and is very unfair. One of these is how the the leaders
are elected, for the Presidential system, they have the "plurality voting system" which means, the
candidate who has the most votes wins the election, therefore neglecting the votes of all the other
candidates who lost which they then get nothing from it. This is very unfair considering that each
candidate has different programs and focuses which they specialize on, for example, Duterte and his
plan to eliminate all drug–related activities in the Philippines, and Miriam Santiago, who's goal was
to strengthen the country's affairs in an international level. These two candidates had very different
goals for the Philippines, but since this is a third–world country, many people considered Santiago's
goal to be unreachable which they then reasoned that the drug problem in the Philippines rising
rapidly which they then stressed the importance to elect a leader who will do it for them. My point
is, most people in the country really don 't know the benefits of being involved in international

The Electoral College: Rationale and Process Essay example
The Founding Fathers wanted to distinguish the newly formed United States from a pure democracy.
The Framers defined democracy as government decisions made directly by the people. They decided
to use a republic form of government because it promised wiser government. This type of
government would allow decisions to be made by representatives elected by people. The one issue
styled under this republican representation was the process on how to choose a president. This
process has been the source of continuing controversy for over two hundred years. There have been
more attempts to change the twelfth amendment than any other provision in the Constitution.
Ironically, in the debates preceding the ratification of the Constitution, the ... Show more content on

The Constitution (Article 2, Section 1) provides that each state shall appoint as many presidential
electors as the state has members of Congress. Three is the smallest number of electors a state may
have, since every state has two senators and at least one member of the House of Representatives.
According to the Constitution and federal law, each state may appoint presidential electors by
whatever means they wish. After the electors have been chosen, they meet in their state capitals to
cast their ballots. The only constitutional restriction is that an elector may vote for only one
candidate who is a resident of the same state of the elector. To be elected president or vice–
president, a candidate must receive a majority of all the electoral votes cast. If no candidate receives
a majority, the House of Representatives chooses the president from among the three candidates
receiving the highest number of electoral votes. If the House of Representatives must make a choice,
each state receives one vote and a majority of the states must agree on a single candidate. When no
candidate for vice–president receives a majority, the Senate then chooses the vice–president from
the other two highest candidates. Each senator has one vote and a vice–president candidate receiving
the majority of the votes in the Senate wins. In practice, the presidential electors are chosen through

The Major Differences Between Democratic, Authoritarian,...
The major differences between democratic, authoritarian, and anarchic political systems are who
holds the power, who has freedom/how much, and how much involvement the government has in
the workings of its country. For authoritarian states, the power is held mainly by a single person or
an elite group of people, few people have freedom, with what freedom they have being limited, and
the government, or rather the leader/leaders, is involved in almost every aspect of the country from
controlling the economy to making decisions for the lifestyles of its citizens like deciding how many
kids they may have or what hair styles are approved. Everything is at the whim of those in charge
and can change at any second. Anarchic is the exact opposite of this. In an anarchic government,
everyone has power all the power they can take for themselves, nothing is unpermitted as there are
no laws and since a government doesn't exist, it can't have any involvement in anything. Finally
there is the democratic system which is a happy medium between these two extremes. In a
democracy, everyone has some power through the right to vote directly or for elected officials who
will run the country (who are limited by a constitution of some kind), everyone has freedom within
the country's generally reasonable laws, and government involvement is limited to making laws and
regulations within reason to protect its citizens, economy, etc. For example, you would not see a
democratic nation forbidding speaking

The Republic Of The Philippines
Introduction
The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, is a sovereign island that
comprises an archipelago of 7,107 islands located off Southeast Asia, between the Philippine Sea on
the east and the South China Sea on the west. The islands are categorized broadly under three major
islands which are Luzon in the north, the Visayan Islands in the center, and Mindanao in the south.
The Philippines total area is approximately 300,000 sq km, which includes approximately 298,000
sq km of land. The country has no land boundaries. The capital of the Philippines is Manila and the
country's most populous city is Quezon City, both part of Metro Manila. The archipelago, a Spanish
colony during the 16th century and ceded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many inherent structural similarities between the United States and the Philippine
governments. The Philippine government is divided into three branches – the Legislative, Executive,
and Judicial branches. The Philippine Congress is also bicameral – it is made up of the Senate and
the House of Representatives. The chief of the Executive branch in the Philippines is the President.
The Presidents of the Philippines and the United States have similar powers: commander–in–chief
of the military, the ability to enter into treaties with the concurrence of two–thirds of the Senate, and
the power to appoint ambassadors, public ministers and consuls. Several amendments in the
Philippine Constitution were incorporated from the Constitution of the United States. Corruption
and cronyism are widespread in business and government. A few dozen leading families hold a
disproportionate share of land, corporate wealth, and political power. A culture of impunity,
stemming in part from case backlogs in the judicial system, hampers the fight against corruption.
The rule of law is generally weak as courts are hampered by inefficiency, low pay, intimidation, and
corruption. Rodrigo Duterte, former Davao City Mayor, was elected as President in May 2016 and
assumed office on June 30th, 2016. One of his main campaign promises was to end corruption in the
country by abolishing Congress.
While reviewing various lists of developing countries, the

The City Of Quezon City
The history of Quezon City is teeming with hardship. It was originally designed and created as a
utopian planned city to function as the capital of the Philippines, replacing Manila. Due to several
unforeseen circumstances, including World War II and the death of the original designer, the plans
were put on hold. Because of the problems that Quezon City originally faced, it was never fully
implemented and never lived up to its expectation as the capital, but continues to flourish as a
cultural, economic, and educational hub in the Philippines.
Quezon City is located on a fertile plain, with a forest to the north and cities in the other directions.
The center of the city has one main oval, known as Quezon City Circle. Originally intended ... Show

However, after the War, the Filipino planning authority decided to move the University of the
Philippines to the east of the circle. The university campus still has significant green space, parks,
and sports fields. To the north of the circle is the small Arboretum Forest, poorly maintained by the
University of the Philippines, and often occupied by illegal settlements1. The largest manmade park
in the region lies to the east, just outside of the original design for Quezon City. In addition, just to
the north of the city is an undeveloped forest and lake, La Mesa Watershed and Eco Park, which
blends into the mountains even further north. Although not originally planned as part of the city's
park systems, La Mesa very popular and is the largest park in the Quezon City region.2
In 1906, the US Congress commissioned Daniel Burnham to design the new city plan for Manila,
which would have been the first contemporary design for a city in the East, mirroring many aspects
of McMillan's plan for Washington DC. It mimicked the City Beautiful Movement in the West, with
neoclassical architecture. Burnham himself wrote about the chance to create a Eurocentric utopia in
the East, "yet still small in area, possessing the bay of Naples, the winding river of Paris, and the
canals of Venice, Manila has before it an opportunity unique in the history of modern times, to
create a unified city equal to the

The American Of The Spanish American War
From the time of the Spanish American War to the current conflict in the Middle East, the United
States went from relative isolation to increased global involvement because of their urge for
humanitarianism, economic self–interest, and the search for Manifest Destiny. The consequences of
this increased global involvement on American society were the increase of immigrants, increase in
resources and "Yellow Press" media. The United States were the helping hand to Cuba during when
America was moving from relative isolation to increased global involvement. At the time of the
Spanish American War, Cuba was slowing making its worldwide debut as a leader in product trade.
Before that, Cuba was diminishing as a country because of the war than had begun within the small
country. Spain was forcing the country to act in Guerilla Warfare, or the use of hit– and run
strategies by small groups controlled by aggressive force. Women were being raped, hundreds of
soldiers killed without any glimpse of hope that the war would end in the near future. The Cuba was
a prospect to the United States until they decided to intervene. A protocol under the power of
William McKinley, a late president of the United States, was written in hopes of demanding peace.
"As an essential preliminary to the agreement to appoint commissioners to treat of peace, this
government required of that of Spain the unqualified concession of the following precise demands:
(1) The relinquishment of all claim of

With past conflicts with the Spanish and Asian countries, it is apparent that the Filipinos have picked up a number of their tendencies along with their culture. The weather of the Philippines has had a substantial effect on population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency. With an average of seventy–four degrees Fahrenheit year round; mean summer the highs stay around one–hundred degrees with the winters only dropping forty–eight degrees Fahrenheit. The Philippines had a population growth rate of 1.51% in 2017, which is one of the highest in the Asian countries. The weather has also helped with agriculture. With its main agricultural crops, rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane, bananas, pineapple, coffee, mangoes, tobacco, and abaca (which is a banana–like plant), the Philippines thrives with agriculture. Smuggling has always been a huge problem. In 2012, According to the International Monterey Fund's Direction of Trade Statistics, the value of smuggling reached $19.6 billion. Insurgencies in the Philippines go as far back as the Spanish rule in the 1800's. Ongoing insurgencies date back to the 1940's with farmers and landlords, government power struggles, communistic views, and of course religion. The areas, structures, capabilities, organizations, people, and events I will cover are significant to military counterinsurgency operations. A small revolt occurred into place in 1872 that did not accomplish what they wanted but set up another revolt that would happen twenty years later. In 1892, nationalists began to organize within secretly. They were all committed to independence and would do whatever it took to gain it. In 1895, Emilio Anguinaldo became its leader in the Cavite Province. In 1896, the revolutionists began the fighting in Manila. Once they attacked the capital, the revolt quickly spread throughout the country (Mangahas). The Americans entered the war wanting to end the Spanish rule of the Philippines. This was the start of the Spanish American War in the Pacific. The first battle that the Americans fought against the Spanish was the Battle of Manila Bay. The United States Navy commander, Commodore George Dewey, was aboard the USS Olympia. The squadron defeated the Spanish squadron in less than three hours. They destroyed the squadron and took control of the harbor at Manila Bay. After this battle, the bay had ships from Britain, Germany, and France. • 9. Advantages Of Anti Dynasty In The Philippines There is political dynasty when members of the same family or clan has dominated or occupied elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or simultaneously across different positions, this is now a problem in Philippine politics that the government itself cannot solve. Why? Because majority of the people seated in position are members of political dynasties. They want to stay in office because of the strong desire for power, greed, and authority. But why are they still seated even though we have the power to vote? When almost all of us are aware that they come from the same dynasty? We cannot blame the Filipino people for that. Because these people are so greedy that they use their money, influence, and wealth to exploit our votes. In that way, they will dominate politics. I would try to lay down some reasons why I am in favor of passing an anti–dynasty law here in the Philippines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe it is now time to pass an Anti–Dynasty Law." I strongly agree with this statement. It is now time that political dynasties should come to a stop. First, it is unconstitutional. (Political Corruption in the Philippines.) Ferdinand Marcos stayed as a "president" for 21 years because he declared something known as martial law. The martial law removes all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. I AM IN FAVOR OF THIS GREAT ACT BY OUR LAWMAKERS. My stand is not to amend the Juvenile Justice Law but call for its effective implementation instead. Lowering the age of criminal responsibility constitutes a grave breach on the convention on the rights of the child to which the Philippines has ratified and acceded. Our country must always be guided by the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice, more commonly known as the "Beijing Rules", which is a framework to consider in determining the age of criminal responsibility. The Beijing Rules recommends that the minimum age of criminal responsibility "shall not be fixed at too low an age level, bearing in mind the facts of emotional, mental and intellectual maturity." Our opponents contend that the increasing number of children involved in heinous crimes as the primary reason for amending the law. But the results of an online poll on the House of Representatives ' website show that public opinion is on civil society 's side, with the majority not in favor of the amendment. • 15. The Battle Of The Spanish American War Lucy Chung Professor Hawkins HIS 173 B 16 December 2014 America was enthusiastic when the results of the Spanish–American war provided them with an opportune time to finally be able to implement and exercise their political ideologies on smaller and more vulnerable nations. They believed very confidently that they could successfully restructure these nations, acquired from the Treaty of Paris, to construct municipal governments that would reflect the American–styled democratic system. Americans set forth various Colonial projects that would provide these small nations with "proper" political education with the expectation that they would be able self–govern accordingly. They wanted to instill ideologies of free trade, democracy, and maybe even the sense of justice and liberty that Americans felt was God's truth. In this argument, I believe the failures of the initial Philippine colonial project not only retrogressed the islanders back into their primitive informal aristocracy but actually help unify and modernize a regime that was the complete reversal of American intentions. The result of the type of Filipino government after reconstruction were significantly constrained by Anti–Imperialists tensions from the metropole and continued to reshape itself by many additional constraints from the Filipino legislation. Only about fifty years later of political administration would enable the development of an autonomic government. The implementation of the colonial project for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Malayan tribes that came later had more highly developed material cultures. In the 14th cent. Their dreams of independence were crushed when the Philippines were transferred from Spain to the United States in the Treaty of Paris (1898), which closed the Spanish–American War. In Feb., 1899, Aguinaldo led a new revolt, this time against U.S. rule. Defeated on the battlefield, the Filipinos turned to guerrilla warfare, and their subjugation became a mammoth project for the United States–one that cost far more money and took far more lives than the Spanish–American War. The insurrection was effectively ended with the capture (1901) of Aguinaldo by Gen. Frederick Funston, but the question of Philippine independence remained a burning issue in the politics of both the United States and the islands. The matter was complicated by the growing economic ties between the two countries. Although comparatively little American capital was invested in island industries, U.S. trade bulked larger and larger until the Philippines became almost entirely dependent upon the American market. Free trade, established by an act of 1909, was expanded in 1913. When the Democrats came into power in 1913, measures were taken to effect a smooth transition to self–rule. The EPIRA does not likewise provide any formal coordination mechanism betweeen the ERC and the DOE, the government agency that exercises supervision of the restructuring of the electric power industry. Annexation of the Philippines Created the American Empire The history of the world is one filled with war, brutality, and greed from nations exerting their might to gain power or land. Driven by greed, history is written by the wants and desires of nations to become larger, wealthier, at the expense of those smaller forms a never–ending cycle from the time of the earliest writings, to modern days. The United States is no different. From the time we occupied the east coast, driving the Native Americans west, to our westward expansion, further driving the Native Americans and Mexico out of their lands, we have never been satisfied. Once we reached the west coast, our eyes began scanning across the oceans. With the country secure, the United States needed foreign lands to establish the empire. The Philippines would provide this opportunity for us. The Spanish– American war delivered the opportunity for America's entry into the Philippines. The annexation of the Philippines transformed the United States into an empire and better prepared the Filipino people for independence. Snapshot of the Philippines To justify the case for the annexation of the Philippines, we must first look at a snapshot of the Philippine archipelago to understand the advantages the islands provided the United States. The Philippines was a vast chain consisting of over 7,000 islands, with 74 provinces, 43 different ethnic groups, and 87 different spoken languages. The population around 1899 ... The moment the Treaty of Paris was signed on February 6, 1899, America became an imperialist. America was divided on the issue of imperialism. Some said that imperialism was wrong because it was against everything our nation was founded upon. Others saw imperialism as a chance to exploit people and land to earn power and prestige. Liberals are strong believers in benefiting lower classes, and a war for imperialism was not going to help the lower classes. Having a strong, defensive military would also mean imperialism was not necessary. With a defensive military we would not need to patrol the seas, thus removing the need for gas stations and military bases. Gas stations and military bases were an objective of imperialism, and if we do not need them, imperialism is not needed, either. Liberals did not believe in forcing a religion on anyone, either. It was morally wrong to do so, and it was not supported by the liberals during the Philippine Insurrection. America's acquisition of the Philippines was a very controversial issue in America. • 47. The Evolution Of Democracy : Cleisthens And Athenian... The word democratic is a combination of an element demos and Kratos. Demos meant "neighborhood" and Kratos meant "power." After the overthrow of the Peisistratid tyranny, Athens needed a new leader. After few conflicts, Athenian decided to make Cleisthenes their new leader who defeated the tyranny in Athens with the help of his party. Cleisthenes then slowly created democracy in his country. I argue that American democracy started the same way as Athenians democracy did because Athenians had a similar government as we do in modern times. They had an assembly, Council, and Popular Courts, which worked similar to our government. Also in Athens, women, children, slaves, and non–citizen had no voice in politics just like American government when it started, only the male citizen had a voice in the policy and was superior to other. They also expanded their territory in a similar way such as, how they slowly took over more lands to expand their empire, by offering them peace or take it by force. Cleisthenes started Athens democracy, "He divided the population into ten tribes instead of the old four... (Reilly) " His purpose was to give every citizen a voice in politics by dividing them into smaller groups. He also increased the size of council, with each tribe contributing 50 members. In modern days you could say that the council is the Congress, made with Senate and House of Representatives. The council was not voted in like the current Congress; they were volunteers who were ... Romelie Azucena, Claire The Seventh Secretary–General of the United Nations Kofi Annan (2006) once said that "Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance." However, despite this and all of the actions done by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) groups, gender discrimination is still visible in our country especially in the sectors of employment, education and society. Miss Pao Alcantara (personal communication, November 15, 2013), a member of the organization of LGBT students from the University of the Philippines, told us through an interview that: It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it's really hard to come out as an LGBT because of the fear that our families won't accept us, or people will judge us because of our sexual orientation and gender identity. We also see discrimination everywhere, from the companies not accepting transgender applicants, or firing employees who do homosexual acts.... For now, it's really difficult. But I hope that it will change through time. Recent studies reveal that more big companies abroad are now accepting LGBT in their companies. Discrimination among these LGBT is diminishing in other countries. They can get promoted and are given greater work responsibilities based on their abilities (Hewlett & Sumberg, 2011). According to a 1996 Newsweek magazine poll cited by Fitch (1997), a majority of American voters and even successful companies are conformed in the equality for gays and lesbians in the workplace. Likewise, Human Rights Campaign studies revealed that more than 300 employers are also giving benefit to the LGBT employees and are supporting their groups. • 53. The Political Environment Of The Philippines Political Environment To begin, the political environment of the Philippines should firstly be addressed. In the modern day Philippines, they have established a multi–party democracy which has an elected president along with its legislature. Their democracy is set up exactly the same as ours in the United States. They have the framework of where the president is both the head of state as well as the government in general. Similarly their system is composed of the three independent branches which are the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Under the leadership of the president, the executive branch makes the decisions for the government/country body as a whole; Congress– the Senate and the House of Representatives, controls the legislative branch; and the Supreme Court, held as the highest judicial body they have, is vested within the courts of the Philippines. Within their country contrary to ours, they hold elections every three years instead of our two. These elections have been held on the second Monday of May since 1992. The winners of these elections begin their time in office on the following June 30th. Although the Philippines have a democracy, not all of the regions within it have political power. Within the local government's cities, provinces, municipalities and barangays, some regions merely exist just for the use of administrative purposes. (Doing Business In the Philippines, n.d.). • 58. Shifting Of A Parliamentary System Shifting To a Parliamentary System The Philippines has always been known to have a Presidential system of government, but I believe that this type of governing isn 't really fit for our country considering that our nation/the people cannot really make a responsible decision for themselves, considering that this is a democracy which it should be run by the people. There are many reasons why the Presidential system isn 't very reliable and is very unfair. One of these is how the the leaders are elected, for the Presidential system, they have the "plurality voting system" which means, the candidate who has the most votes wins the election, therefore neglecting the votes of all the other candidates who lost which they then get nothing from it. This is very unfair considering that each candidate has different programs and focuses which they specialize on, for example, Duterte and his plan to eliminate all drug–related activities in the Philippines, and Miriam Santiago, who's goal was to strengthen the country's affairs in an international level. These two candidates had very different goals for the Philippines, but since this is a third–world country, many people considered Santiago's goal to be unreachable which they then reasoned that the drug problem in the Philippines rising rapidly which they then stressed the importance to elect a leader who will do it for them. My point is, most people in the country really don 't know the benefits of being involved in international ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Framers defined democracy as government decisions made directly by the people. They decided to use a republic form of government because it promised wiser government. This type of government would allow decisions to be made by representatives elected by people. The one issue styled under this republican representation was the process on how to choose a president. This process has been the source of continuing controversy for over two hundred years. There have been more attempts to change the twelfth amendment than any other provision in the Constitution. The Constitution (Article 2, Section 1) provides that each state shall appoint as many presidential electors as the state has members of Congress. Three is the smallest number of electors a state may have, since every state has two senators and at least one member of the House of Representatives. According to the Constitution and federal law, each state may appoint presidential electors by whatever means they wish. After the electors have been chosen, they meet in their state capitals to cast their ballots. The only constitutional restriction is that an elector may vote for only one candidate who is a resident of the same state of the elector. To be elected president or vice– president, a candidate must receive a majority of all the electoral votes cast. If no candidate receives a majority, the House of Representatives chooses the president from among the three candidates receiving the highest number of electoral votes. If the House of Representatives must make a choice, each state receives one vote and a majority of the states must agree on a single candidate. When no candidate for vice–president receives a majority, the Senate then chooses the vice–president from the other two highest candidates. • 66. The Major Differences Between Democratic, Authoritarian,... The major differences between democratic, authoritarian, and anarchic political systems are who holds the power, who has freedom/how much, and how much involvement the government has in the workings of its country. For authoritarian states, the power is held mainly by a single person or an elite group of people, few people have freedom, with what freedom they have being limited, and the government, or rather the leader/leaders, is involved in almost every aspect of the country from controlling the economy to making decisions for the lifestyles of its citizens like deciding how many kids they may have or what hair styles are approved. Everything is at the whim of those in charge and can change at any second. Anarchic is the exact opposite of this. In an anarchic government, everyone has power all the power they can take for themselves, nothing is unpermitted as there are no laws and since a government doesn't exist, it can't have any involvement in anything. Finally there is the democratic system which is a happy medium between these two extremes. In a democracy, everyone has some power through the right to vote directly or for elected officials who will run the country (who are limited by a constitution of some kind), everyone has freedom within the country's generally reasonable laws, and government involvement is limited to making laws and regulations within reason to protect its citizens, economy, etc. For example, you would not see a democratic nation forbidding speaking ... The American Of The Spanish American War From the time of the Spanish American War to the current conflict in the Middle East, the United States went from relative isolation to increased global involvement because of their urge for humanitarianism, economic self–interest, and the search for Manifest Destiny. The consequences of this increased global involvement on American society were the increase of immigrants, increase in resources and "Yellow Press" media. The United States were the helping hand to Cuba during when America was moving from relative isolation to increased global involvement. At the time of the Spanish American War, Cuba was slowing making its worldwide debut as a leader in product trade. Before that, Cuba was diminishing as a country because of the war than had begun within the small country. Spain was forcing the country to act in Guerilla Warfare, or the use of hit– and run strategies by small groups controlled by aggressive force. Women were being raped, hundreds of soldiers killed without any glimpse of hope that the war would end in the near future. The Cuba was a prospect to the United States until they decided to intervene.
