2. Poor Handwriting Skills
The importance of writing with your hands is different for each individual. They are actually
abandoning these lessons completely. This can not be good for literacy in any fashion. Writing helps
you learn spelling, punctuation basically everything that you need to know about grammar. Some
literary experts are fighting hard to keep this dying art in schools. They are fighting an uphill battle
against technology itself. What is the need...nobody needs cursive, nobody writes anymore. There
was a time when being able to write in cursive or calligraphy was a sign of nobility. All important
documents had to be written out in this form before being presented to the leaders of nations. Your
handwriting alone some people felt represented your character as a person. And now this form of
communication will soon be nothing more than history. A broken language scribbled down in things
people no longer feel necessary...or even look at, books.

3. Bringing Back Books
Since the technology of computers have become so advance the reason for books has become so scarce. Most
curriculums within the education system is based of e-books instead of hardback books because society finds it easier
for the students in the world today to reference needed material.
“Paper, ink, front and back cover — as long as you can turn its pages, you can read a book, which can survive in a
usable form for centuries.
Not so with e-books. Besides the electric power requirements, e-book devices often support only certain types of
files and formats.
So, for example, a book available on a Kindle might not be readable on other devices. Due to the everchanging
nature of technology, the device we use today to read a particular e-book might not be available tomorrow.”

4. Poor Communication Skills
Communicating is very important. We live in a generation where people are more
comfortable text messaging rather than actually talking to another, with that being said texting
becomes bad when you make it a habit, meaning getting adjusted to speak the way you text and
that is by abbreviating words and not using proper english. Texting does not help improve your
literacy or communicating, If only it's the opposite. For example, you don't interact with others as
well.

paid!” -Doug Firebaugh

5. Over-Reliance on Spell-Check
•
It's apparent that just about everyone on a computer today relies heavily on the use of spell-check software to
help them in their day-to-day lives.
•
Over-reliance on these systems can lead to lazy proofreading when the software fails to pick up certain spelling
and grammar mistakes.
•
A study done by Professor Dennis Galletta, with the help of Alexandra Durcikova, Andrea Everard and Brian
Jones explain in their 2005 written publication, Does Spell-Checking Software Need a Warning Label?
•
Trusting spell-check to solve all your little problems is a mistake in and of itself.
•
In the study it was revealed that when the software was turned on, any undetected errors that were missed by
the software were likely to be missed by the subjects as well.
•
This shows that one should not just use spell-check, but also investing time to proofread documents themselves
in conjunction with the software will lead to the best results.
