Comes from the Latin word gubernare which
means “to steer”
This is an institution of a ruling power and system
through which the governmental functions and
authority are exercised.
It is an agency or instrumentality through which

6. Monarchic
This is a government ruled by one person, usually
referred to as a King.
a) Absolute monarchy – words of a single person
govern all
b) Constitutional monarchy – the powers of a ruler
are subject to the limitations set by their own
constitution

9. Aristocratic
form of government where leadership is limited to
the few elite people gauged by their intellect and
richness

10. Democratic
A government of the majority, by the majority, and
for the majority of the people.
a) Pure democracy – government is formulated or
expressed in meetings
b) Representative democracy – government is
formulated through sectoral or group
representation

It is a government where exercise of the powers in
the government are definitely expressed and
limited to secure the enjoyment of civil rights of the
people and to protect them from abuses or
tyranny.

A form of government characterized by the highly
centralized and dictatorial governance where the
voice of the majority has no influence to the rulings
of those in the high authority

It is a government (headed by a President) divided
into three equal branches with distinct powers,
namely:
a) Legislative – branch that forges and enacts laws
b) Executive – branch that enforces laws
c) Judicial – branch that applies and interprets laws

A government (headed by a Prime Minister)
where the executive branch derives its
democratic legitimacy from its ability to command
the confidence of the legislative branch

It is a form of government where the powers of
governance is basically located in the central
office.

30. Federal
It is a government where the central or national
powers are distributed to the local government
units, where autonomy is respected.
