Introduction
4. About the novel
This novel divided in to
three volume.
Theme of Marriages.
Story of Dashwood sister.
In this novel Sense and
sensibility use satirical tone
and hear in a subdued
ironical tone.
5. Elinor
Elinor was eldest daughter
Mr.&Mrs Dashwood.
Whose advice was so effectual,
possessed a strength of
understanding and coolness of
judgment.
She was very practical
character and always the one
keeping thing together and in
turn does not stop to worry
about her own affair.
It’s always prudence and honor
duty.
6. she is shown to be the very definition of “sense” as
alluded and scattered .She was wiser than her age.
She was believes in following her head, rather than her
heart, which is what Marianne does.
Elinor ‘s relationship with Edward ferrars has progressed
to such a point that she can reasonably expect that he
will extend an offer of marriage to her.
7. Marianne
She embodies the “sensibility”
of the title as opposed to her
elder sister Elinor’s “sense”.
She is emotional and
impulsive, with highly
romantic ideas of love and
marriage. Beloved by Colonel
Brandon, she considers him too
old for her and falls in love with
John Willoughby, an attractive
young man.
8. She was believes in acting on the spur of the moment and
doing what her heart leads her to do .without thinking
about the consequences.
Marianne’s abilities were in many respects , quite equal to
Elinor’s.She was sensible and clever, but eager in every
thing.
She's something of a self-indulgent romantic, and she
very rarely thinks about what's practical or proper.
In the end, impulsive Marianne comes to realize that her
unleashed emotions almost killed her
10. Elinor is “sensible, competent and
thoughtful” and that Marianne is
“impetuous, immature” .
Both of her virtue and vices .As sister has
are both perfect ,the older is more
mature than the youngest.
Affected by the death of their father.
11. The two sisters represent two entirely different kinds of
human temperaments; and this contrast between the
two has been sketched for us by the novelist at the very
outset. Elinor possesses a strength of understanding
and a coolness of judgment by virtue of which she,
though only nineteen years, is capable of being her
mother's counselor.
In the end, as all triumphs in love, both sisters marry
what may be called "safe" men. Men with good, if not
extravagant income, who are pleasant though not wildly
exciting and attractive. They both find happiness in
marital bliss in its most conservative sense, appropriate
for the late 18th century
