Today, the rising complexity and importance of
electronic features incorporated in industrial
equipment products, high price of electrical
equipment and cabling, have made
electrical system design one of the key
activities in product development rather
than an afterthought. Here’s a look
at how Trinity Touch Pvt Ltd experienced
robust functionality in their process
post installation of SolidWorks
Electrical 2D.
The industrial equipment industry
faces increasing challenges in
electrical systems design. Earlier, electrical
devices and harness routes were designed
by fitting them in spaces left by engineers.
In some cases, the fitting was even done
during physical mockup validation. Today,
with times changing and competition
increasing, electrical system design has
become a center of attraction. Trinity Touch
Pvt Ltd is an electrical panel manufacturing
company, which provides customized
solution between solar modules and

inverters, and has presence in the UK and
India currently, for supplying its products to
the power and energy sector.
Talking about the importance of design in
this sector, Head of Department – Electrical,
Trinity Touch Pvt Ltd, Perminder Sandhu
said, “After getting an inquiry from our
customer, our first step is to convert the
inquiry into initial design (preparing single
line diagram, switchgear selection, panel
sizing as per internal electrical components
to be used, wire sizing as per load
conditions, etc.) for cost estimation. Post the
approval on drawings, we proceed to further
execute the details in power, circuit and PLC
logic drawings.“

Delivering right at the inquiry stage is of
utmost importance to clinch the deal. Only if
one stands out from the rest will he be able
to beat competition. And in this industry,
one of the ways to stand out is by

responding faster to enquiries in the preorder stage itself. Trinity was not able to do
the same and faced challenges when it
came to preparing and submitting the
electrical line diagram. Agreeing, Sandhu
added, “The format of our previous drawings
was not presentable enough to make an
impact during the initial stage of inquiry. If
there were relative changes to be made, it
would take time to update the SLD’s
required at inquiry stage for proposals. We
also faced shortage of locally available
support for easy and proper implementation
of our existing software i.e. Eplan. Lastly, we
were also not able to justify the cost and
time involved in this entire exercise.”
Having faced such shortcomings, the
company decided to switch to SolidWorks’
Electrical 2D tool. Explaining the functions of
the tool, Senior Technical Manager - India &
SAARC Countries, Dassault Systemes
SolidWorks, Ravi Varadarajan averred,
“SolidWorks Electrical 2D is a design and

Trinity Touch chose SolidWorks’ tool
among others because of the features that
it offers. What sealed the deal for them
were characteristics such as real time bidirectional synchronization of changes
between 2D schematic and 3D data (any
change made in 2D schematic is updated
real time in 3d layout and vice-versa),
multi-user, multi-project design capability,
comprehensive library of over 500,000
electrical parts from various manufacturers,
user-friendly and easy to learn interface,
auto-generation of terminal strip drawings,
ready 2D schematic data for real-time

also found it difficult to keep track of
changes in the electrical schematics when
the design changed.”
Once, it started using the product,
because of the above mentioned features it
was able to deliver better and faster.
Seconding the same, Sandhu stated, “Due
to the user-friendly interface of the tool, our
users were able to learn the product quickly
and work faster. Additionally, we were able
to prepare single and multi-line schematic
drawings faster. Also, because those
drawings were associated with each other,
any changes done were synchronized all
across the project. The comprehensive
library of electrical parts from various
world-wide manufacturers was also of
great help.”

Powerful collaborative tools for embedded electrical system design
Post the installation and using of the tool,
Trinity Touch is now able to respond faster
to the inquiries in the pre-order stage by
completing the required drawings. Also, the
overall design and detailed engineering
time for the complete system design has
reduced and productivity has increased.
Hence, the customer is able to deliver
the project on time and with the
required quality.
