2. Importance of Transportation
Transportation is an integral part of the tourism industry. It is largely
due to the improvement of transportation that tourism has expanded.
The advent of flight has shrunk the world, and the motor vehicle has
made travel to anywhere possible. Transportation in tourism is most
often seen as just part of the tourism system which is in charge of
bringing the tourists to the destinations, a means of getting around
the place and leaving it once the duration of the trip is over. The
improvement in transportation modes plus low fares has increased the
accessibility of areas once considered off-the-beaten-path.
3. STAGECOACHE
S
A stagecoach is a type of horse drawn coach
for passengers and goods. They were one of
the first forms of organized public transport
and originated in the 1600s in Great Britain.
Before railways were invented in the first part
of the nineteenth century they were the
fastest way to travel long distances and were
operated across Europe and North America.

water transport service between Manchester and
London Bridge in 1772.
Refreshments were provided by captain’s wife on the
boat itself.
By 1815, steamboats emerged and were plying on the
Clyde, the Avon, and Thames.
An advertisement giving out steamboat excursion trips
from London started in 1833.
Steamship excursions on Thames became so well that
by 1841 a weekly steamboat excursion tour guide was
being hired on a regular basis.
5. RAIL TRAVEL
Railways were put up in England in 1830
and started between Liverpool and
Manchester.
It cost only 1 penny per mile by rail
that led to the generations of a quite
large level of demand for rail travel.
The rail travel being much cheaper as
against the stagecoach travel could well
attract passengers even from low income
strata.

MOTOR COACH
TRAVEL
Automobiles started the travel arena in the
United States when Henry Ford launched his
much publicized Model T in 1908.
An extensive network of roads became ready
for use by 1920 that led to the automobile
present-day dominance of the travel industry.
The auto traveler gave rise to the early
tourist courts in the 1920s and 1930s.
7. AIR TRAVEL
First air travel was experienced by Wright Brothers
in 1903.
On 18 February 1911, the first commercial civil
aviation flight took off from Allahabad for Naini.
After Indian independence in 1947, 49% of the
airline was acquired by the Government of India in
1948.
On 8 June 1948, a Lockheed Constellation L-
749A named Malabar Princess (registered VT-CQP)
took off from Bombay bound for London
Heathrow marking the airline's first international
flight.
