This document provides questions to guide discussions about experiences with deafness and hearing loss. It includes prompts about the onset and cause of hearing loss, family ties and support related to deafness, experiences with speech therapy and listening devices, challenges in school, and tips for changes schools could make to improve accessibility. The goal is to better understand individual experiences and gather advice to help schools support those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

2. Onset of deafness
• When did you lose your hearing? Were you born deaf?
• ?

3. Cause of hearing loss
• What caused your hearing loss? ( You may have to interview your
parents.)

4. Family ties
• Are any other members of your families D/deaf or hard of hearing?

5. Family support
• Does your family support ASL? Do you think they should?
• Do you feel that you can communicate freely with your family?

6. Speech Therapy
• How long have you had speech therapy? Like/Dislike?

7. Listening devices
• Tell us what you use to access sound. Do you like/dislike?

8. School
• What are some challenges that hearing people do not understand?

9. Tips
• What are some changes that teachers, and schools could make, that
would allow you to have equal access to information?
• Think about : the hallways, cafeteria, library, clinic, guidance office,
classroom, field trips etc.
