1. Evaluating the ideas
Idea 1 –Young Boys Birthday Party – Evauated by Katie Torpey
Suitable for audience?
This idea for a theme of small boys is a good idea and is also suitable for the
audience as the colours that are going to be used are represent boys using the
colours such as blue, and green. I also think that the font is a good idea that it
can be used for boys and children. I think that this audience is limited as the
food on the recipe cards is very basic. The parents of the young boys will
already have thought of the ideas of having small snacks such as chicken
nuggets and sausage rolls, I think that the recipe cards should include recipes
for more imaginative foods for the young children which will include
vegetables.
Suitable for client?
These cards are suitable for the client as it states in the treatment that they
will be made vegetarian however I think that recipe cards should be split by
doing 4 for girls and 4 for boys. This way both genders will get a chance to try
out new recipes. I also think that photography is a good method of producing
these recipe cards as it will give a better look in the end.
Appeal of the design
I like the idea of having blue colours for boys however this is very limited I
think other colours should be combined such as greens, whites and yellows. I
think that having a font aimed at boys is a good idea, by using this method it
will make them more interested in the recipe cards as it will be suitable and
appropriate for them as they will be able to read it and they will also find it
fun.
Length of time to produce
The amount of time will be around 3 weeks to produce the recipe cards, this
should be enough time to produce all the recipe cards however if any
photography or any production work needs to happen such as varnishing or
embossing then it could take longer.

2. Costs of any specialist production methods
The printing for the recipes cards could be costly as there is a large amount
that needs to be printed so this will need to be thought about before being
carried out another aspect which will need to be thought about is the other
production methods such as embossing and varnishing. This could become
expensive and costly so a budge will need to be thought about.
Practical to produce in large print runs?
More prints than usually may need to be printed out for the audience so it is
important that new recipes, new ideas and new develops are able to be
produced for the audience.
Available resources
Resources and equipment that may need to be used will include cameras,
computers, photo shop, printer, internet, pens, paper, planning sheets.
Quality issues
To make sure that it is top quality the recipe cards will be made out of hard
100% recycled, FSC approved stock. This will give strong and stable recipe
cards and they will be suitable for the audience as young boys will probably
damage or break the cards however using this material will make sure they are
sturdy and able to stay strong for young children.
Legal and ethical issues
With this idea there could be issues with letting kids to cook as it is dangerous
and could cause harm also issues about the meals that are going to be cooked
they need to be real and also have a good outcome. Another issue could be
copyright as this brief states that images are going to be used on the cards to
make it look professional. This could causes issues and problems so it is
important that it is considered.
