Mussolini And Fascism Chapter Summaries
This book provides an insight into Italian filmmaking and Fascism as well as the attitude that the state had to regulate cinema during the war presenting
us with a new viewpoint into this period in cinema history.
This work begins with a list of illustrations followed by a short preface, a broad introduction explaining what the topic is going to cover, five
different chapters and an epilogue which shortly briefs and concludes the work. There are also notes containing a description of each of the chapters, a
bibliography with references to other books such as The Place of Fascism in European History by Allardyce or Trent'anni di storia italiana by
Antonicelli and lastly an index incorporating a vast number of terminology. Steven Ricci points ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, he notes that the involvement of the fascist government in the mass media provoked a sense of censorship particularly during the interwar
years. Secondly, he points out the influence that the AncientRoman Empire had on Mussolini and how this influence would represent the national
identity of Italy. Thirdly, fascists were anti–futurists and would not tolerate any change in their regime. Another aspect to consider is that the dubbing
system was fundamental in the Italian national identity as it would allow Italians to maintain their own language and avoid any involvement with
foreign words. Furthermore, the state feared that the dominance of American films mostly would overtake Italian audiences. Therefore, the state and
the Italian cinema competed both politically and economically with the Hollywood filmmakers who were becoming a challenge. Ricci finishes this
chapter by describing the Italian neorealism. According to him, this portrays the break of fascist rules and the liberation of society. The epilogue,
however, offers an insight of the contemporary Italian cinema and how the fascist governance which lasted twenty years influenced Italian society
today. For instance, the extensive media control by Silvio Berlusconi which had a repercussion in Italian

The Legality Of Assisted Suicide In Virgil's Aeneid
Assisted suicide has long been a topic of controversy; and within recent years counties such as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland have
deemed it legal. Yet even with these changes in the publics' opinions around the world, consent in the act of helping take one's life is still deemed
illegal in Italy. And so, Hera, and Iris, within the novel Aeneid written by Virgil, would be charged under Italian law "Omicidio del consenziente",
article 759, with the assistance of Dido's death.
Dido by attempting to achieve death by her own hand; and not by natural causes, nor that of violence from others, would not prove successful. Death
was not to become of Dido, and due to such an irrational impulse alone, she would not die. Persephone would not cut the golden tress, allowing her
death. Dido, lay suffering not permissible to the welcoming of passing, and thus caught the attention of Hera who took pity upon such anguish. Hera
in turn sent Iris to aid in the death of Dido, who announced "This offering, sacred to Hades, I take as bidden, and from your body set you free." (4.704),

Silvio Berlusconi posed an emergency legislation deeming it illegal to remove the tubes. After Ms. Englaro's passing, her father and thirteen of her

Racial Dichotomy
Introduction – What is stereotyping? What is defined as racist language? How is this evident in media representations of ethnic/race?
Stereotypes are characteristics put upon groups of people because of their race or nationality which typically misrepresents and denigrates individuals
that are a part of a particular group. Robles (2013) claims that misconceptions are based on conceived cultural norms and practices which usually act to
discriminate. This can result in discriminatory social misconceptions and the subjugation of specific groups. It

This is achieved through rhetoric which positions non–Eurocentric groups as alien. Edward Said (1978) argues that this process of Western
self–presentation acts to construct orientalist as west's alter ego. It is argued the this rhetoric uses binary vocabulary such as the West versus East,
despotism versus democracy and cruelty versus fair treatment. Jaspal and Cinnirella claims thats muslims are typically constructed as the antithesis of
the ethno–national in–group. This is achieved through the juxtapositioning of the negative characteristics inherent in the Muslim in–group with the
positive characteristics of the ethno–national in–group. Fatima Poorebrahim (2013) argues how rhetoric of difference is established through pacify and

like "fanatic" and "fundamentalist" which are foreign ideologies to the west. Joshua Roose (2013) from the Religion and Society Research Centre from
the University of Western Sydney argues that media headlines are designed to create an Islam versus the Western dichotomy, he uses the head line "A

The Communist And The Fascist Ideology Present At The Two...
Lenin VS Mussolini The communist and the fascist ideology present at the two extreme ends on the political spectrum, yet the two apparently different
political systems shared many intrinsic similarities. Mussolini and Lenin, they were both worth comparison in that they used somewhat similar but still
distinct methods to run their countries. Form a historical point of view, Lenin was more successful, for the reason that his economy and agriculture
program was more useful to people, some violence and terror but didn't lose too much comparing to Stalin and Mussolini, and finally, he is more
famous than Mussolini positively that Lenin affected China positively but Mussolini affected German negatively. As for bring a dictator, both leaders
aimed to make their countries more influential and powerful, so they both tried to solve the problems through economy and police and violence.
Although Mussolini was better in military than Lenin, he didn't drive his people out of the old situation and didn't give them that what they want, like
peacefulness and wealth. Thus, in conclusion, Lenin was more effective than Mussolini about the dictatorship during 1930s. The economy was
important to keeping control of the country from the living standards of people. Lenin had his "New Economy Policy"to solve their problems. After
the World War I, "Agricultural and Industrial production were down from the levels of 1913. Perhaps a third of Russia 's working horses had been

Italy, the place where thousands of people go to get away from their normal lives, has been facing many struggles of its own. The ancient buildings,
rivers, and popular attractions make Italy look like a perfect, easy living society. Yet, Italy has lots of problems, from governmental money issues to
the everyday lives of people. Italy's economy is continuing to get worse, causing the European and other country's people to worry.
There are many THINGS that later result in a bad economy. Employment is a cause Italy has been facing. "Back to the 1990's, Italian employees have

Italian Rap Culture Analysis
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Italy began to take part in rap music, a facet of United States hip hop culture, as it was growing in
popularity both nationally and internationally. In this paper, I will discuss how this is a huge example of cultural appropriation on a global scale
seeing as there were little to no black people involved in Italian rap despite hip hop being a part of black culture. I will begin by detailing the
sociopolitical origins of hip hop culture in order to highlight the cultural significance of the genre followed by an in–depth analysis of Italian rap,
including but not limited to the birth of the genre, artist examples, and the political climate that turned Italian rap from being a bubblegum pop version

There is a shift from chill party themes which shows what was initially thought of the music; it was fun, when it was actually people's truths and pain.
This shifted when it benefitted them as a form of rebellion then stuck as a form of activism against the government and media control, mafia issues, and
organized religion (Mitchell 338). You would think that the Italian people would be tolerant and latch onto the style in an appropriate manner since the
country is one with a history dominated by post–renaissance and war influences and political unrest coupled with mafia pollution, a corrupt
government filled with a man focused on media dominance, but alas, that is not the case. In comparison to American rap, this music is characterized by
a more electronic, punk, funk, and house influenced sound rather than Afro Caribbean with heavy bass as common in America. After listening to a lot
of Italian rap, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the American version. Black people often create the culture so Italian rap is sort of lackluster
in comparison with even other European rap artists like those in London and Berlin that have thriving Afro and Afro–Caribbean

Is Realism an Obsolete Theory, or Is It More Relevant Than...
Realism, as a way of interpreting international relations has often been conceived to be closely tied to the Cold War. Realism, rooted in the
experience of World War II and the Cold War, is said to be undergoing a crisis of confidence largely because the lessons adduced do not convincingly
apply directly to the new realities of international relations in the twenty–first century (Clinton 2007:1) Worse still, if policymakers steadfastly adhere
to realist precepts, they will have to navigate "the unchartered seas of the post–Cold War disorder with a Cold War cartography, and blind devotion to
realism could compromise their ability to prescribe paths to a more orderly and just system." (Kegley 1993:141). This paper will demonstrate that ...

And with this, comes the realist concept of national interest. Realist ideology, statism, specifically, suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is
its primary goals, and the very condition of its existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors' interests and needs in the
international community out of something that could be called a 'moral responsibility', but only if it somehow serves its own national interests in the
process. Morgenthau (1949) explains that state actors who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal sentiment, as a
convenient means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international community, and their own people. This is not to say however, that
some states are sincere in certain good–hearted pursuits. But it is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to national interest
(Morgenthau 1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the product of power (Carr 2001:63). Take for example the nineteenth
century, in which the British Empire was the global hegemon at the time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial aspirations, they
advertised the theory of the 'White Man's Burden' as a moral and social norm, in which

The only thing about corruption that has evolved since the first idea of it was conceived is the fact it's dipped its toe into fraud, embezzlement, theft,

made horrific mistakes that eventual would be the end of him. The Mafia started as basically a bodyguard for your land before Italy was even

They know that half their government is not for the people but or themselves. And they don't do anything about it. In America the authenticity of our

Nixon’s Use of Executive Privilege to Prevent...
In the summer of 1972, 5 burglars broke into the Watergate hotel where the democratic convention was being held. The burglars were eventually
captured and arrested, but one of the burglars implicated then President of the United States of America, Richard Nixon, in the planning of the
break–in. After weeks of subpoenas from congress, demanding tapes that were used to record the activities in the White House. It was then that Richard
Nixon would irrevocably change America's future by doing something that every president had done before him, he would use executive privilege to
block the investigation into the White House's role into the Watergate break–in. By invoking executive privilege, Richard Nixon proved his guilt and
permanently changed how Americans viewed the president's use of executive privilege.
Of course, this was not the first time executive privilege had been invoked. In 1776, George Washington used an offshoot version of executive
privilege to withhold documents relating to a failed military expedition. Although Washington did hand over the documents to Congress, it would be
forever noted that this would be the first example of executive privilege. Despite not actually using it, it is still seen as the first use of executive
privilege in American history.
In the beginning, it is assumed from George Washington's letter to Congress regarding executive privilege that he intended executive privilege to be
used for America's well–being and not for personal gain.

Immigration And Leadership Essay
Migration has the same meaning, the movement of a group of people who leave their native country to settle temporarily or permanently in a different
country. People might voluntarily move, but others are forced to leave their country because of dire situations. An analysis shows how the economic
crisis, terrorism, and leaders play a role in how immigration is viewed. While it is impossible to send all illegal immigrants back to their countries,
preventing further immigration will help eliminate some security threats and increase the stability of a country's government. The North–South gap has
allowed immigration to become a global issue. While the rich North benefits from industrialization, the South suffers from poor development and ...

It has also increased prejudice towards certain ethnic groups and religions. Leadership plays an important role on how a state handles illegal
immigration. Leaders can have a different approach to dealing with immigration and it determines what their stance will be in regard to regulation.
Pressures from members of their political party and fear of future election outcomes can also force a leader to step up anti–immigration policies. Given
certain circumstances, illegal immigration can become a top priority for a leader or the least of his or her problems. Given the recent unrest in North
Africa, it is no surprise that many of those citizens are fleeing from their homes in search of safety and stability. The tiny island of Lampedusa serves
as a midpoint from northern Africa to Italy. For some, Italy is the destination, but for others, it is the gateway to the rest of the European Union. Albeit
the situation in their country is terrible, immigrants are not greeted with open arms and warm welcomes. Instead, they are seen as burdens to the Italian
government and citizens. For example, while campaigning for his third term as prime minister in 2008, Silvio Berlusconi promised to limit illegal
immigration which he said was the cause of an increase in crime rates. By associating illegal immigrants with crimes, it further drives anti–immigration
sentiment in Italy. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi belongs to the center–right party, People of Liberty. He issued a

The main aim of this paper is to identify and discuss a contemporary issue that affects operations management, strategic management and human
resource management within the specific industry. Building on the authors' interest this paper will focus on the arising issues and problems related
with the rapid growth of the influence of private and public (to lesser extent) benefactor owners within the European football industry (Lang et al.,

These are strategic management, operations management and human resource management, which will be briefly explained in this subchapter. To
better understand the 'sugar daddy' phenomenon it is important to define it within the right historical and economical context. The 'sugar daddy' term
refers to wealthy individual who decided to invest large amount of their capital into taking over the football club (Lang et al., 2011) and then to
inject even more money in order to acquire better coaching and playing talent, hence to increase the overall team quality (Madden, 2012). However
there were many private owners of football clubs in the past. Wealthy investors like Jack Walker (Blackburn Rovers F.C); Silvio Berlusconi (AC
Milan) or Masimo Moratti (Internazionale Milano) (Lang et al., 2011) managed their clubs in a way they could achieve both sporting success and its
long–term financial stability. Only recently football clubs became an expensive toy for even wealthier individuals (Kuper, 2009). The core example
and a kind of archetype of modern 'sugar daddy' is Chelsea London Football Club owner – Roman Abramovich – who injected a total of ВЈ880 million
into his club between 2003 and 2012 (Franck & Lang, 2012; Madden, 2012). He was then followed by others: Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan

investigations conducted by various state attorneys.
Finivest soon expanded into a country–wide network of local TV stations which had similar programming, forming in effect a single national network.
This was seen as breaching the Italian public broadcaster statutory monopoly on creating a national network which was later abolished (Global). In
1980 Berlusconi founded Italy's first private national network, Canale 5, followed shortly thereafter by Italy 1. Berlusconi was assisted in his
successful effort to create the first and only Italian commercial TV empire by his connections to Bettino Craxi, secretary–general of the Italian Socialist

remained in a legal limbo, and were not therefore allowed to broadcast news and political commentary. In 1995 Berlusconi sold a portion of his media

Media Content Effects on Society
Introduction Initially, media were mainly used for educational and informative purposes. However as time went by, this boundary was getting
blurred, since today media are also used as an entertainment. One of the most influential events in history of media is probably the invention of
television. Thereafter, in less than one decade, from 1946 to 1955, TV was a part of home to 65% of Americans. Singaporean novelist, Jess C. Scott,
said 'People are sheep. TV is the shepherd.' (Literary Heroin (Gluttony): A Twilight Parody, 2012). This is unfortunately true, young generation is

In 1991 Runnymede Trust Report introduced a concept islamophobia and defined it as an unfriendly attitude towards Muslims, and hence the fear and
hatred of all or majority of Muslims (Islamophobia Research & Documentation Project). An apparent example might be Russia Today's (RT) report
about Californian veteran who arranged an explosion of Detroit's largest mosque, while there were more than 500 people inside. In Detroit, he stopped
in a bar for a drink and told about his intensions to bar employee, who followed him, wrote down his car plate number, and told the local police about
it. Fortunately, authorities found his car with different kinds of explosives right outside the Islamic Center. As RT reporter mentioned, "The
mainstream media has completely ignored this story. But now imagine, if the same thing would happened, but the perpetrator was a muslim man. His

Benito Mussolini Justified
"My objective is simple. I want to make Italy great, respected and feared," (UXL Biographies 1). This was a quote from one of the most famous
dictators in Italy, Benito Mussolini. Before World War One, Mussolini was director of the Avanti, a socialist newspaper in Milan, but he began to
disagree with socialists so he broke ties and joined the military, reaching the rank of corporal. After he was discharged from the army, he created the
fascist party and worked towards dismantling all socialist institutions (UXL Biographies 1). Mussolini was a powerful public speaker and delivered
speeches mainly about how great he would make Italy. This allowed him to gain the public's trust, leading to him becoming Prime Minister and later
the dictator of Italy (UXL Biographies 1). In April 1945, Mussolini and his mistress were fleeing anti–fascist partisans disguised as German soldiers.
When they were crossing the Swiss border, him and his mistress were captured by partisans and the next day were shot and killed. (Klein 1). The
assassination of Benito Mussolini was justified because of he adopted Nazi ideals about Jews and he ultimately initiated the demise of his country and
followers. Despite this many believe that Mussolini actually helped Italy. First and foremost, Mussolini was extremely anti–semitic. His mistress
recorded a remark by him in which he said "These disgusting Jews, I must destroy them all," (The Economist 34). This shows that Mussolini was very

European Immigration Policies And The Economic Crisis
European Immigration Policies and the Economic Crisis The Eurozone economic crisis began at the end of 2009. Essentially, the failure of the Euro
caused huge problems in southern European countries (such as Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Italy). After the introduction of the Euro, these countries
suddenly had the credit to borrow money like they hadn't had before. They extravagantly increased spending with this borrowed money, which at first
boosted the economy but eventually led to massive debts. Since every economy was intertwined, the rest of the Eurozone was effected as well.
Because everyone had been borrowing and lending money to each other, a problem in one country could reverberate across the continent, creating a
chain reaction of defaults. Germany agreed to bailout these smaller countries, effectively picking up the tab, as long as they agreed to very strict
austerity measures. The contrasting expectations between a financially responsible country like Germany and one that doesn't pay taxes such as Greece
amplified tensions. Cultural differences such as this are surprisingly relevant to the economic crisis, as the disparities in immigration policy demonstrate.
ITALYItaly, despite its long history as a collection of territories, is one of the newest European countries (founded in 1861). As such, it was never a
big powerhouse for incoming immigration, even pre–recession. The government never had an established model for integration or pluralism, and was

Ronald Reagan came from humble beginnings. He was born on February 6, 1911 in the town of Tampico, Illinois. His parents were Jack and

who raised Ronald and his older brother, Neil, in the Disciples of Christ Church despite their father 's Catholicism. The family moved frequently,
sometimes in response to new job opportunities, sometimes after Jack had been fired because of his drinking. In 1920 they settled in Dixon, Illinois,

ruse. Even decades later, he liked to talk about "coming back from the war," like other veterans, eager to take up family life again (a life that in his
case had hardly been interrupted) (D'Souza 11).
Reagan 's postwar acting career never regained the momentum it had enjoyed in the early 1940s. He had some occasional successes (among them The
Hasty Heart in 1949), but he found himself working more often now in minor roles or minor films. Jane Wyman 's career, in the meantime, was
flourishing, and her absorption with it contributed to what were already growing tensions within the marriage. The couple divorced in 1948 (Reagan 4).
As his career and his marriage languished, Reagan had begun to become active in politics. His first vehicle was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the
film actors ' union. Reagan had been active in SAG since his first months in Hollywood, and his involvement grew with his marriage to Wyman, who
was also an important figure in the organization. In 1946, he chaired a union strike committee and demonstrated an energy and a toughness that his SAG

Aaron James' Asshole: A Theory discusses how assholes affect human's daily life. He also refers to the root of assholes and how to manage them.
Aaron James names various types of assholes and one of them is the asshole capitalism, which he spent the whole chapter to deliberate. According to
James, asshole capitalism is disrupting the future of a country where it is functioning. I could not agree with him more. I will analyze the existence of
asshole capitalism, why some people believe that it is the best system, and how to prevent the collapse if this problem continues.
Capitalism is a social system based on the principle of individual rights. Politically, it is the system of laissez–faire (freedom). Legally it is a system of
objective laws (rule of law as opposed to rule of man). Economically, when such freedom is applied to the sphere of production its result is the
free–market. Capitalism might not be a perfect system, but it is not that evil. There is evidence proven that capitalism has helped the U.S. become the
wealthiest nation. The primary concept of capitalism is totally devoted to the creation

How did the Cold War affect the politics of Germany and Italy?
The Cold War was the most important historic event in the 20th century after the Second World War, from 1945 till 1991 between two most powerful
countries in that period – Soviet Union and USA. The Cold War invested a lot in world politics. What is theCold War? This was a war for dominance in
the world. In 1945 the USA was the only one country in the world that had the nuclear weapons. But in the 1949 USSR started to learn their nuclear
weapons. In further developments forced the USSR was soon created by nuclear, and then thermonuclear weapons. (Isaacs J, 2008) Fight has become

Italian Culture and Society Essays
As the world evolves so do the people within it, but without much surprise some things do not change that drastically and one of those things is the
culture in which a person was born and raised. Even though ones culture or way of life may progress in some ways, it does not totally change. The
topic of discussion for this paper will be that of the Italian culture. Who are they really? What types of challenges do they face? Many other topics
will be discussed about the Italian society, but first we begin with the basic facts as to who they were. The first few questions that must be answered in
order to understand the Italian culture entirely is who they are, where they are located, how they live their everyday lives, and how they are ... Show

People of the Italian culture are very proud of their way of life and do not see any need to change it. Certain traditions that Italians have lived by for
hundreds of years are still maintained with provincial pride due to the fact that this community is so closely knit to their ancestors and the way life was
lived before them.
There is basis on which the Italian culture can be viewed as a single group of people. That basis would be there diverse ways of living from all other
cultures and their patriotism for their country. Some aspects of Italian culture may pertain to other cultures but the uniqueness of this exact culture give
it its own ability to strive as just one group. With closely knit communities, families, old loyalties to hometowns, and a striving economy people of the
Italian culture are a single group of people that have survived using the same techniques as their cultural ancestors before them. On the other hand this
culture does face challenges and prospects as a community and that is to be discussed next.
No one community is perfect, each as their ups and downs. The Italian community suffers severally from sexism and it affects this society
tremendously. In this type of society it is not unnatural for women to be a housewife or to have a job, but if a woman does have a job they do risk the

Berlusconi Oral Health
Dental health is important for all children, since oral health is vital to overall health. Special needs children may have issues with the mechanics of
eating such as chewing or swallowing or with the sensory experiences of eating like textures and temperatures. If your child has problems with having
his or her teeth or mouth touched it will be helpful to start desensitizing early. Begin as gently as possible, maybe by just touching the lips with
something soft. Gradually increase the pressure as it is tolerated. Once the mouth is actually open you can start working on touching the teeth, little by
little. Infant toothbrushes that slip on your finger can help. If your child has a therapist you can work on this goal together. Brushing your ... Show more

After he was smashed in the face last year with a marble statue, the dental hygienist that he saw became a pivotal figure in recruiting young women
for Berlusconi's sex parties. Nicole Minetti also joined Berlusconi's political party and now is a member of the Lombardy regional parliament.
However, her primary role with Berlusconi was far less political and more social. "Minetti was there with her chest out kissing Berlusconi
continuously. It was a real whorehouse. All the girls were given rings and necklaces," reported a police officer on the new revelations of the sex
parties. In the 400–page court document, which is primarily concerned with Berlusconi's alleged payments for sex with a minor, the young women at
his parties engaged in provocative and lurid behavior. The women stroked themselves and Berlusconi while carrying on stripteases and seductive,
lesbian–style dances. Karima El Mahroug, the 17–year–old Moroccan that Berlusconi is accused of having sex with is supposed to have been taped
telling a friend, "I told Silvio I wanted five million Euro for all this...he told me he would pay me all I wanted, in gold, but that I should just keep
making things up and pretend I'm mad but not reveal anything and stay quiet." Berlusconi's term as Prime Minister over the last three years has
been hampered by wild tales of sex and outrageous behavior. Increasingly, it seems that the allegations get wilder and wilder, while at the same time
becoming more believable. Elections are in 2013, but the odds of Berlusconi making it that long are about as likely as Berlusconi taking a vow of

The emergence of technological innovation such as smartphones and other advance communication devices, has allowed users to upload any form of

little room to deny this current economic crisis has been years in the making. So now, it will be left to a new Prime Minister to solve financial

However, the government has so far failed to introduce the structural reforms needed to boost Italy's growth –– now estimated to be around 1.0% this
year.
Italy's debt stands at 1.9 trillion EU ($2.6 trillion US), or 120% of gross domestic product. Compare that to the combined Greece, Ireland and
Portugal's debt – around 640 billion as at full year 2010, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Italy faces around 380 billion in bond repayments and deficit costs by the end of 2012, according to Evolution Securities' analyst Elisabeth Afseth. Its
next major payment is 26 billion, due in February next year. With its funding costs now over 7%, that could prove a huge hurdle.

long it stays at that level and how much the country needs to raise. Italy, ministers are scheduled to sign off on a package of tax increases and

Italy is located in the Southern part of Europe and is surrounded by the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. It officially became a country in 1861,
under the rule of King Victor Emmanuel II. Italy's current population sits at just under 62 million; it is a decent populated country in comparison to
the countries surrounding it. It is ranked the 24th most populated country in the world. The majority of the population is of Italian decent and
practices Christianity. Over half of the Italy's population lives in urbanized areas, which gives a good idea of the percentage of people who hold jobs
in an urban area. Urban area jobs include factory workers, business owners, cashiers, etc. With that being said, the unemployment is 12.2% .
Surprisingly, the unemployment rate is a little higher for men than it is for women in Italy.

The Role Of Media Coverage On The Media
While analysing media ownership, it resulted clear how proprietorial influence plays an important role in citizens' lives. It is not just a matter of
controlling the news outcome but it also directly influences politics where media coverage is essential for the spreading of ideas. Regarding this
topic, the perfect example in position of power is Rupert Murdoch, a man whose only cravings are power and control, a man who has built an
empire from the ground earning a position of international respect and importance. He has become the face of the news, or more accurately, the
man behind the news. Every single person that works for him is subjected to is halo of influence even when he is not around. Politicians fear his
power because it can affect their careers, freedom of the press activists sill dream of the day his massive empire will disaggregate. Today's news is
overall influenced by five major companies; therefore, the questions arises spontaneously: can we trust what we read? Media ownership, as
concentration of power in the hands of one individual, is considered antidemocratic because it restricts media diversity and becomes an issue for
social justice and democracy itself (Freedman, 2012). For instance Silvio Berlusconi, ex Italian Prime Minister, 'maintains control of all but one of the
country's national TV channels and a sizable piece of its publishing industry while holding office' (Randall, 2015) making impossible for the citizen to

Government, Regulation & Business Ethics
Government, Regulation & Business Ethics
The issue of business relations with government has increasingly become a key issue of business ethics. Some of the many questions raised are * Is it
acceptable for corporations to use their considerable power tp shape government policy? * Is the government jeopardizing its role in protecting the
public interest when politicians sit on the board of corporations?
The government has a crucial role to play in establishing the 'rules of the game' by which we judge business ethics.
When we talk about the government, we know that the government is involved in issuing laws related to business practices. Business ethics tend to

one could argue that it has certain advantagesif politicians have had the experience of the business world and vice versa. On the other hand, there are
also quite significant ethical problems linked to the close amalgamation of business and politics. Eg. German ex–chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was
criticized for taking up an appointment as Chair of the Germa–Russian company, in charge of the new gas pipeling through the Baltic Sea. This deal

According to Silvio Berlusconi, he is the "best political leader in Europe and in the world." There can be a difference in opinion regarding that
statement, but the majority of Italian voters decided Berlusconi should be elected prime minister again in 2008. He is in the midst of his third term as
prime minister of Italy; inheriting many challenges from his predecessor. During his time in office, addition problems arose. An analysis of Berlusconi's
government reveals three issues affecting Italy: the garbage pick–up strike in Naples, immigration, and personal scandals. An analysis shows the causes,

Inadequate resolutions to this problem early on have allowed this to happen again in 2007. Although "$11 billion" has been spent on waste
management, it has not prevented the issue from recurring ("Rubbish in Naples").
The garbage crisis started in December 2007 when landfills closed and workers stopped collecting trash. With nowhere else to dump garbage, streets
became dumpsters. The Naples strike had garbage piling up to an incredible height and even narrowed streets. Residents were left to deal with the foul
smell of the left over trash, but also the possibility of the trash having an effect on their health.
The European Commission set a deadline of a month for the garbage to be picked up in Naples. In a press release, the European Commission
formally "accused Italy of not adhering to EU legislation on waste" and threatened legal actions if measures were not taken to alleviate the problem
("Commission Sends Final Warning"). Stavros Dimas, a top environmental official, estimated that 100,000 tons of garbage was contributing to the
problem (Polvoledo, "EU Criticizes Italy"). The European Commission argued that the risk of the "spread of disease and pollution through air, water
and land" needed to be taken seriously ("Commission Sends Final Warning"). If Italy did not resolve the garbage crisis by the deadline it imposed, the
case would be sent to the European Court of Justice. The mafia in Italy has economic, social,

Socialization Of Mass Media
The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often
commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate
monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society.
Preserving control over people's minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman
and Chomsky provide a "propaganda model" that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The
consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as
a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven
businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the
formation of the consumer. "The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with
the power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person" (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are

Analysis Of Justin Bieber 's Latest Hair Cut
The news media, an industry focusing on major global stories ranging from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, to a gossip piece on Justin
Bieber's latest hair cut, through to a humble suburban story on the local school fete; the desire to know what is going on in the world around us is
at our core as a people. Journalists are by and large the guardians of truth and accountability within our society. The public entrusts the fourth estate
to vigorously hold those in public life to account, to seek out injustice, to sift fact from fiction, to expose corruption and to inform the people so we
might make an informed judgement on the events that shape our modern era. The camera that captures no lies and sees all that dare venture in front
of its lens has the power to inspire, but it also has the power to horrify. The pictures broadcast to our TV sets or viewable on our mobile devices show
us humanity at its best, whilst depicting us at our most repugnant. Whilst the camera may not lie about this nature skilful editing can. The question
therefore arises, to what extent do commercial imperatives conflict with the work of journalists? Does the desire for ever increasing ratings and the
ensuing increase in advertising revenue drive our media practitioners towards unethical behaviour and if so, what can be done to ensure ethical
practice within a commercial media context? In this essay, we will explore these questions by looking at what the role of a journalist actually is,

Mussolini's Attitudes On Soccer
nineteen–thirty–eight World Cups during his dictatorship. (Foot Ch. 15) This bread and circuses reputation among Italian academics persisted long past
Mussolini's tyrannical rule.
Most relevantly, this is identifiable through an examination into Silvio Berlusconi's attitudes on soccer. Distinct from Mussolini in his love for the
sport, Berlusconi reignited Italian soccer in the political sphere by interjecting popular chants and slogans into his rhetoric when campaigning for
Prime Minister. Famously, Berlusconi's own party Forza Italia is a direct rip–off of the chant used by supporters of Gli Azzuri, Italy's National Team.

As a result of becoming a media mogul as well as the Prime Minister of Italy, Berlusconi has attained multiple sources of power, though they all tend

Kipnis mentioned that people who perceive power negatively tend to view the its corrupting influence in two ways (Kipnis, 1972), either they can
be seen as a means to an end or as an end itself, those who hold it above all other values pursues it endlessly whereas others use it as a tool for
personal gain. For Berlusconi, it is possible that he has done both as he has used political power to escape conviction and save his companies from

Female Characters In Lavinia
Lavinia is a female character who has shown up in many texts throughout history. In Titus Livius' (Livy), The History of Rome, the role of women is
consistently downplayed and is overshadowed by men craving power through conquest and war during the evolution of Rome. Livy briefly mentions
Lavinia in the second chapter of the first book in The History of Rome, "The Aborigines and Trojans were soon after attacked together in war.Turnus,
king of the Rutulians, to whom Lavinia had been affianced before the coming of Aeneas..." (Livy I, 2). Livy does not describe Lavinia's character or
tell us anything more about her. The character of Lavinia is suppressed by the overwhelming masculinity of male characters in their conquest for power
and is presented to us only as a supplement to her male counterparts. In Smethurst's article analyzing Livy's characterization of women, "A woman may
even cause trouble unintentionally, since her fateful gift of beauty can induce a man to neglect his most solemn duty, devotion to the State" (Smethurst,
83). This quote implies that a woman, and more specifically Lavinia, is nothing but a distraction to a man and his important duties and obligations to
his beloved Rome. Livy's History also mentions the female characters of Cloelia, Virginia, Lucretia, and Veturia who are given masculine
characteristics, which is also done by Chaucer to the wife in The Wife of Bath's Tale. Perhaps the assignment of male characteristics to female
characters was done so

stands at 56,126,212 people as of July 2009. The north and south seem to be split in economic terms with the north being well developed industrially
and the south facing high unemployment and poverty. Italy is a democratic republic that replaced a monarchy back in 1946. Although it ranks seventh
in world GDP and public debt and attracts millions of tourists every year, its current debt to GDP ratio continues to skyrocket. World economists...

It seems like the only sector of Italy that has thrived is its underground black market. These lucrative and subversive activities account for over 25
percent of the country's GDP. This puts a burden on the Italian government since all this lost revenue is not subject to taxation. Italy's chief of state, or
president is Giorgio Napolitano, who has served since May 15, 2006. Napolitano's main responsibilities are to approve the Council of Ministers and to
provide the prime minister with advice. Berlusconi leads the Forza Italia, a Christian–democratic, liberal majority political party in Italy. Forza Italia
was founded in December 1993 and was merged into The People of Freedom March 2009.
The Italian government has practiced many policies intended to strengthen and functionally link the different multilateral organizations of which the
country is a member, primarily the UN, the EU, and NATO.
Italy's globalization policy can be best described by constructivism. Constructivism is essentially the human way of learning from our experiences. In
Italy's case, worldwide actuality is collectively constructed by cognitive structures that give sense to the material world.
The public debt of Italy is growing exponentially, hitting 5.8 percent in 2009. Its unemployment was over 9 percent last year and is expected to top
10.5 percent this year. Italy continues to struggle with budget deficits and a high public debt, which is at 2.6 percent and 105.9 percent

Mussolini And Fascism Chapter Summaries

  • 1. Mussolini And Fascism Chapter Summaries This book provides an insight into Italian filmmaking and Fascism as well as the attitude that the state had to regulate cinema during the war presenting us with a new viewpoint into this period in cinema history. This work begins with a list of illustrations followed by a short preface, a broad introduction explaining what the topic is going to cover, five different chapters and an epilogue which shortly briefs and concludes the work. There are also notes containing a description of each of the chapters, a bibliography with references to other books such as The Place of Fascism in European History by Allardyce or Trent'anni di storia italiana by Antonicelli and lastly an index incorporating a vast number of terminology. Steven Ricci points ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, he notes that the involvement of the fascist government in the mass media provoked a sense of censorship particularly during the interwar years. Secondly, he points out the influence that the AncientRoman Empire had on Mussolini and how this influence would represent the national identity of Italy. Thirdly, fascists were anti–futurists and would not tolerate any change in their regime. Another aspect to consider is that the dubbing system was fundamental in the Italian national identity as it would allow Italians to maintain their own language and avoid any involvement with foreign words. Furthermore, the state feared that the dominance of American films mostly would overtake Italian audiences. Therefore, the state and the Italian cinema competed both politically and economically with the Hollywood filmmakers who were becoming a challenge. Ricci finishes this chapter by describing the Italian neorealism. According to him, this portrays the break of fascist rules and the liberation of society. The epilogue, however, offers an insight of the contemporary Italian cinema and how the fascist governance which lasted twenty years influenced Italian society today. For instance, the extensive media control by Silvio Berlusconi which had a repercussion in Italian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Legality Of Assisted Suicide In Virgil's Aeneid Assisted suicide has long been a topic of controversy; and within recent years counties such as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland have deemed it legal. Yet even with these changes in the publics' opinions around the world, consent in the act of helping take one's life is still deemed illegal in Italy. And so, Hera, and Iris, within the novel Aeneid written by Virgil, would be charged under Italian law "Omicidio del consenziente", article 759, with the assistance of Dido's death. Dido by attempting to achieve death by her own hand; and not by natural causes, nor that of violence from others, would not prove successful. Death was not to become of Dido, and due to such an irrational impulse alone, she would not die. Persephone would not cut the golden tress, allowing her death. Dido, lay suffering not permissible to the welcoming of passing, and thus caught the attention of Hera who took pity upon such anguish. Hera in turn sent Iris to aid in the death of Dido, who announced "This offering, sacred to Hades, I take as bidden, and from your body set you free." (4.704), ... Eluana Englaro, was placed in a vegetative comma in 1992 due to a car crash, and in 2009 her father was granted the right to disconnect her feeding tubes. Upon hearing this news Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi posed an emergency legislation deeming it illegal to remove the tubes. After Ms. Englaro's passing, her father and thirteen of her doctors, and nurses were accused of assisting in murder, facing charges during an investigation. But in 2010, all charges were dropped. • 3. Racial Dichotomy Introduction – What is stereotyping? What is defined as racist language? How is this evident in media representations of ethnic/race? Stereotypes are characteristics put upon groups of people because of their race or nationality which typically misrepresents and denigrates individuals that are a part of a particular group. Robles (2013) claims that misconceptions are based on conceived cultural norms and practices which usually act to discriminate. This can result in discriminatory social misconceptions and the subjugation of specific groups. It Rhetoric of Exclusion – the lack of ethnic/race representation shows that it is racist – do not have equal representation Recent research has highlighted the minority groups are being discriminated ... Edward Said (1978) argues that this process of Western self–presentation acts to construct orientalist as west's alter ego. It is argued the this rhetoric uses binary vocabulary such as the West versus East, despotism versus democracy and cruelty versus fair treatment. Jaspal and Cinnirella claims thats muslims are typically constructed as the antithesis of the ethno–national in–group. This is achieved through the juxtapositioning of the negative characteristics inherent in the Muslim in–group with the positive characteristics of the ethno–national in–group. Fatima Poorebrahim (2013) argues how rhetoric of difference is established through pacify and degrade Orientals. The Pluralism Project (2016) claims that newspaper headlines regularly print words such as "islam" and "muslim" next to words like "fanatic" and "fundamentalist" which are foreign ideologies to the west. Joshua Roose (2013) from the Religion and Society Research Centre from the University of Western Sydney argues that media headlines are designed to create an Islam versus the Western dichotomy, he uses the head line "A terror attack in the UK overnight – apparently committed once again in the name of Islam" to illustrate this dichotomy. • 4. The Communist And The Fascist Ideology Present At The Two... Lenin VS Mussolini The communist and the fascist ideology present at the two extreme ends on the political spectrum, yet the two apparently different political systems shared many intrinsic similarities. Mussolini and Lenin, they were both worth comparison in that they used somewhat similar but still distinct methods to run their countries. Form a historical point of view, Lenin was more successful, for the reason that his economy and agriculture program was more useful to people, some violence and terror but didn't lose too much comparing to Stalin and Mussolini, and finally, he is more famous than Mussolini positively that Lenin affected China positively but Mussolini affected German negatively. As for bring a dictator, both leaders aimed to make their countries more influential and powerful, so they both tried to solve the problems through economy and police and violence. Although Mussolini was better in military than Lenin, he didn't drive his people out of the old situation and didn't give them that what they want, like peacefulness and wealth. Thus, in conclusion, Lenin was more effective than Mussolini about the dictatorship during 1930s. The economy was important to keeping control of the country from the living standards of people. Lenin had his "New Economy Policy"to solve their problems. After the World War I, "Agricultural and Industrial production were down from the levels of 1913. • 5. Southern Italy Research Paper Italy, the place where thousands of people go to get away from their normal lives, has been facing many struggles of its own. The ancient buildings, rivers, and popular attractions make Italy look like a perfect, easy living society. Yet, Italy has lots of problems, from governmental money issues to the everyday lives of people. Italy's economy is continuing to get worse, causing the European and other country's people to worry. There are many THINGS that later result in a bad economy. Employment is a cause Italy has been facing. "Back to the 1990's, Italian employees have been clocking longer hours while producing less." Italy seems to keep getting hit over and over again without time to recover. The government isn't able to keep up with the problems. • 6. Italian Rap Culture Analysis During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Italy began to take part in rap music, a facet of United States hip hop culture, as it was growing in popularity both nationally and internationally. In this paper, I will discuss how this is a huge example of cultural appropriation on a global scale seeing as there were little to no black people involved in Italian rap despite hip hop being a part of black culture. I will begin by detailing the sociopolitical origins of hip hop culture in order to highlight the cultural significance of the genre followed by an in–depth analysis of Italian rap, including but not limited to the birth of the genre, artist examples, and the political climate that turned Italian rap from being a bubblegum pop version of American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a shift from chill party themes which shows what was initially thought of the music; it was fun, when it was actually people's truths and pain. This shifted when it benefitted them as a form of rebellion then stuck as a form of activism against the government and media control, mafia issues, and organized religion (Mitchell 338). You would think that the Italian people would be tolerant and latch onto the style in an appropriate manner since the country is one with a history dominated by post–renaissance and war influences and political unrest coupled with mafia pollution, a corrupt government filled with a man focused on media dominance, but alas, that is not the case. In comparison to American rap, this music is characterized by a more electronic, punk, funk, and house influenced sound rather than Afro Caribbean with heavy bass as common in America. After listening to a lot of Italian rap, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the American version. Black people often create the culture so Italian rap is sort of lackluster in comparison with even other European rap artists like those in London and Berlin that have thriving Afro and Afro–Caribbean ... • 7. Is Realism an Obsolete Theory, or Is It More Relevant Than... Realism, as a way of interpreting international relations has often been conceived to be closely tied to the Cold War. Realism, rooted in the experience of World War II and the Cold War, is said to be undergoing a crisis of confidence largely because the lessons adduced do not convincingly apply directly to the new realities of international relations in the twenty–first century (Clinton 2007:1) Worse still, if policymakers steadfastly adhere to realist precepts, they will have to navigate "the unchartered seas of the post–Cold War disorder with a Cold War cartography, and blind devotion to realism could compromise their ability to prescribe paths to a more orderly and just system." (Kegley 1993:141). This paper will demonstrate that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And with this, comes the realist concept of national interest. Realist ideology, statism, specifically, suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is its primary goals, and the very condition of its existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors' interests and needs in the international community out of something that could be called a 'moral responsibility', but only if it somehow serves its own national interests in the process. Morgenthau (1949) explains that state actors who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal sentiment, as a convenient means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international community, and their own people. This is not to say however, that some states are sincere in certain good–hearted pursuits. But it is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to national interest (Morgenthau 1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the product of power (Carr 2001:63). Take for example the nineteenth century, in which the British Empire was the global hegemon at the time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial aspirations, they advertised the theory of the 'White Man's Burden' as a moral and social norm, in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People believe that corruption costed them, the most recent Presidential election. Some say corruption in our government caused them to go out make their voices heard by voting for someone who preached of cleaning up Washington, D.C.. But across the Atlantic Ocean there are problems of their own evolving rapidly, more specifically inItaly. Is the reason Italy's so corrupt, do to the fact wealthy people will do to all their best to effect outcome? History has showed us that corruption can run rabbid through the world, take a look at Africa. Millions of dollar and supplies are shipped there, but are lucky if they reach their intended targets "Italy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only thing about corruption that has evolved since the first idea of it was conceived is the fact it's dipped its toe into fraud, embezzlement, theft, bribes, and kickbacks. Silvio used his social enterprise to help him rise to the highest political achievement you can have in Italy, along the way he made horrific mistakes that eventual would be the end of him. The Mafia started as basically a bodyguard for your land before Italy was even established as a country. Since then they hit a point of decline but eventually rose to unimaginable strength. Would weave its way in between the cracks of the Italian government. So when i ask the question of, is the reason Italy's so corrupt, do to the fact wealthy people will do to all their best to effect outcome? I don't believe it's just these things contributing to the demise of the Italian government, but the mindset, the moral of the Italian people. They know that half their government is not for the people but or themselves. And they don't do anything about it. • 9. Nixon’s Use of Executive Privilege to Prevent... In the summer of 1972, 5 burglars broke into the Watergate hotel where the democratic convention was being held. The burglars were eventually captured and arrested, but one of the burglars implicated then President of the United States of America, Richard Nixon, in the planning of the break–in. After weeks of subpoenas from congress, demanding tapes that were used to record the activities in the White House. It was then that Richard Nixon would irrevocably change America's future by doing something that every president had done before him, he would use executive privilege to block the investigation into the White House's role into the Watergate break–in. By invoking executive privilege, Richard Nixon proved his guilt and permanently changed how Americans viewed the president's use of executive privilege. Of course, this was not the first time executive privilege had been invoked. In 1776, George Washington used an offshoot version of executive privilege to withhold documents relating to a failed military expedition. Although Washington did hand over the documents to Congress, it would be forever noted that this would be the first example of executive privilege. Despite not actually using it, it is still seen as the first use of executive privilege in American history. In the beginning, it is assumed from George Washington's letter to Congress regarding executive privilege that he intended executive privilege to be used for America's well–being and not for personal gain. ... • 10. Immigration And Leadership Essay Migration has the same meaning, the movement of a group of people who leave their native country to settle temporarily or permanently in a different country. People might voluntarily move, but others are forced to leave their country because of dire situations. An analysis shows how the economic crisis, terrorism, and leaders play a role in how immigration is viewed. While it is impossible to send all illegal immigrants back to their countries, preventing further immigration will help eliminate some security threats and increase the stability of a country's government. The North–South gap has allowed immigration to become a global issue. While the rich North benefits from industrialization, the South suffers from poor development and ... Leaders can have a different approach to dealing with immigration and it determines what their stance will be in regard to regulation. Pressures from members of their political party and fear of future election outcomes can also force a leader to step up anti–immigration policies. Given certain circumstances, illegal immigration can become a top priority for a leader or the least of his or her problems. Given the recent unrest in North Africa, it is no surprise that many of those citizens are fleeing from their homes in search of safety and stability. The tiny island of Lampedusa serves as a midpoint from northern Africa to Italy. For some, Italy is the destination, but for others, it is the gateway to the rest of the European Union. Albeit the situation in their country is terrible, immigrants are not greeted with open arms and warm welcomes. Instead, they are seen as burdens to the Italian government and citizens. For example, while campaigning for his third term as prime minister in 2008, Silvio Berlusconi promised to limit illegal immigration which he said was the cause of an increase in crime rates. By associating illegal immigrants with crimes, it further drives anti–immigration sentiment in Italy. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi belongs to the center–right party, People of Liberty. These are strategic management, operations management and human resource management, which will be briefly explained in this subchapter. To better understand the 'sugar daddy' phenomenon it is important to define it within the right historical and economical context. The 'sugar daddy' term refers to wealthy individual who decided to invest large amount of their capital into taking over the football club (Lang et al., 2011) and then to inject even more money in order to acquire better coaching and playing talent, hence to increase the overall team quality (Madden, 2012). However there were many private owners of football clubs in the past. Wealthy investors like Jack Walker (Blackburn Rovers F.C); Silvio Berlusconi (AC Milan) or Masimo Moratti (Internazionale Milano) (Lang et al., 2011) managed their clubs in a way they could achieve both sporting success and its long–term financial stability. Only recently football clubs became an expensive toy for even wealthier individuals (Kuper, 2009). The core example and a kind of archetype of modern 'sugar daddy' is Chelsea London Football Club owner – Roman Abramovich – who injected a total of ВЈ880 million into his club between 2003 and 2012 (Franck & Lang, 2012; Madden, 2012). • 16. Benito Mussolini Justified "My objective is simple. I want to make Italy great, respected and feared," (UXL Biographies 1). This was a quote from one of the most famous dictators in Italy, Benito Mussolini. Before World War One, Mussolini was director of the Avanti, a socialist newspaper in Milan, but he began to disagree with socialists so he broke ties and joined the military, reaching the rank of corporal. After he was discharged from the army, he created the fascist party and worked towards dismantling all socialist institutions (UXL Biographies 1). Mussolini was a powerful public speaker and delivered speeches mainly about how great he would make Italy. This allowed him to gain the public's trust, leading to him becoming Prime Minister and later the dictator of Italy (UXL Biographies 1). In April 1945, Mussolini and his mistress were fleeing anti–fascist partisans disguised as German soldiers. When they were crossing the Swiss border, him and his mistress were captured by partisans and the next day were shot and killed. (Klein 1). The assassination of Benito Mussolini was justified because of he adopted Nazi ideals about Jews and he ultimately initiated the demise of his country and followers. Despite this many believe that Mussolini actually helped Italy. First and foremost, Mussolini was extremely anti–semitic. His mistress recorded a remark by him in which he said "These disgusting Jews, I must destroy them all," (The Economist 34). This shows that Mussolini was very against the Jewish ... • 17. European Immigration Policies And The Economic Crisis European Immigration Policies and the Economic Crisis The Eurozone economic crisis began at the end of 2009. Essentially, the failure of the Euro caused huge problems in southern European countries (such as Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Italy). After the introduction of the Euro, these countries suddenly had the credit to borrow money like they hadn't had before. They extravagantly increased spending with this borrowed money, which at first boosted the economy but eventually led to massive debts. Since every economy was intertwined, the rest of the Eurozone was effected as well. Because everyone had been borrowing and lending money to each other, a problem in one country could reverberate across the continent, creating a chain reaction of defaults. Germany agreed to bailout these smaller countries, effectively picking up the tab, as long as they agreed to very strict austerity measures. The contrasting expectations between a financially responsible country like Germany and one that doesn't pay taxes such as Greece amplified tensions. Cultural differences such as this are surprisingly relevant to the economic crisis, as the disparities in immigration policy demonstrate. ITALYItaly, despite its long history as a collection of territories, is one of the newest European countries (founded in 1861). Reagan 's postwar acting career never regained the momentum it had enjoyed in the early 1940s. He had some occasional successes (among them The Hasty Heart in 1949), but he found himself working more often now in minor roles or minor films. Jane Wyman 's career, in the meantime, was flourishing, and her absorption with it contributed to what were already growing tensions within the marriage. The couple divorced in 1948 (Reagan 4). It is not just a matter of controlling the news outcome but it also directly influences politics where media coverage is essential for the spreading of ideas. Regarding this topic, the perfect example in position of power is Rupert Murdoch, a man whose only cravings are power and control, a man who has built an empire from the ground earning a position of international respect and importance. He has become the face of the news, or more accurately, the man behind the news. Every single person that works for him is subjected to is halo of influence even when he is not around. Some of the many questions raised are * Is it acceptable for corporations to use their considerable power tp shape government policy? * Is the government jeopardizing its role in protecting the public interest when politicians sit on the board of corporations? The government has a crucial role to play in establishing the 'rules of the game' by which we judge business ethics. When we talk about the government, we know that the government is involved in issuing laws related to business practices. Business ethics tend to begin where the law ends. This means that the governments establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ethics of occupying a dual role in business & ethics is somewhat questionable. On one hand, one could argue that it has certain advantagesif politicians have had the experience of the business world and vice versa. On the other hand, there are also quite significant ethical problems linked to the close amalgamation of business and politics. Eg. German ex–chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was criticized for taking up an appointment as Chair of the Germa–Russian company, in charge of the new gas pipeling through the Baltic Sea. This deal was negotiated in th final months of his term in office. It makes obvious the problems that can arise when we have politcians who are entitled to set the rules of the economic game also acting as players in the game. 4] State Capture by Business – direct payment of bribes to govt officials by businesses. Where it is intended to 'buy' an influence on regulation, we refer to it a "state capture." 5] Ethical issues in context of privatization & deregulation An issue of extensive debate has been the price at which formerly public companies should be sold to private owners. For eg. When Deutsche Telekom was privatized, the share price immediately sank dramatically. Another ex is of the group that took over British Rail in amanagement buyout and

  • 31. Berlusconi's Struggles Essay According to Silvio Berlusconi, he is the "best political leader in Europe and in the world." There can be a difference in opinion regarding that statement, but the majority of Italian voters decided Berlusconi should be elected prime minister again in 2008. He is in the midst of his third term as prime minister of Italy; inheriting many challenges from his predecessor. During his time in office, addition problems arose. An analysis of Berlusconi's government reveals three issues affecting Italy: the garbage pick–up strike in Naples, immigration, and personal scandals. Although "$11 billion" has been spent on waste management, it has not prevented the issue from recurring ("Rubbish in Naples"). The garbage crisis started in December 2007 when landfills closed and workers stopped collecting trash. With nowhere else to dump garbage, streets became dumpsters. The Naples strike had garbage piling up to an incredible height and even narrowed streets. Residents were left to deal with the foul smell of the left over trash, but also the possibility of the trash having an effect on their health. The European Commission set a deadline of a month for the garbage to be picked up in Naples. In a press release, the European Commission formally "accused Italy of not adhering to EU legislation on waste" and threatened legal actions if measures were not taken to alleviate the problem ("Commission Sends Final Warning"). Stavros Dimas, a top environmental official, estimated that 100,000 tons of garbage was contributing to the problem (Polvoledo, "EU Criticizes Italy"). The European Commission argued that the risk of the "spread of disease and pollution through air, water and land" needed to be taken seriously ("Commission Sends Final Warning"). If Italy did not resolve the garbage crisis by the deadline it imposed, the case would be sent to the European Court of Justice. The mafia in Italy has economic, social, ... I started off terribly, but I had to learn. It was as if I had to learn swimming by immediately being thrown into the deep end. It took a while for me to perfect communicating, but I eventually learned how to do so properly. Boy Scouts has also taught me a great deal about leadership, mainly through the same trial by fire process. • 33. Socialization Of Mass Media The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people's minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman and Chomsky provide a "propaganda model" that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the formation of the consumer. "The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with the power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person" (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are implanting insecurities and fears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Justin Bieber 's Latest Hair Cut The news media, an industry focusing on major global stories ranging from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, to a gossip piece on Justin Bieber's latest hair cut, through to a humble suburban story on the local school fete; the desire to know what is going on in the world around us is at our core as a people. Journalists are by and large the guardians of truth and accountability within our society. The public entrusts the fourth estate to vigorously hold those in public life to account, to seek out injustice, to sift fact from fiction, to expose corruption and to inform the people so we might make an informed judgement on the events that shape our modern era. The camera that captures no lies and sees all that dare venture in front of its lens has the power to inspire, but it also has the power to horrify. The pictures broadcast to our TV sets or viewable on our mobile devices show us humanity at its best, whilst depicting us at our most repugnant. Whilst the camera may not lie about this nature skilful editing can. The question therefore arises, to what extent do commercial imperatives conflict with the work of journalists? Does the desire for ever increasing ratings and the ensuing increase in advertising revenue drive our media practitioners towards unethical behaviour and if so, what can be done to ensure ethical practice within a commercial media context? In this essay, we will explore these questions by looking at what the role of a journalist actually is, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Mussolini's Attitudes On Soccer nineteen–thirty–eight World Cups during his dictatorship. (Foot Ch. 15) This bread and circuses reputation among Italian academics persisted long past Mussolini's tyrannical rule. Most relevantly, this is identifiable through an examination into Silvio Berlusconi's attitudes on soccer. Distinct from Mussolini in his love for the sport, Berlusconi reignited Italian soccer in the political sphere by interjecting popular chants and slogans into his rhetoric when campaigning for Prime Minister. Famously, Berlusconi's own party Forza Italia is a direct rip–off of the chant used by supporters of Gli Azzuri, Italy's National Team. Just as they did during their economic difficulties in the mid–twentieth century, Italians are now using soccer as an outlet to voice political concerns, assuming a collective identity for the teams they support as the sport to them is "a vehicle for social integration, social mobility, and local identity" (Lanfranchi 158). The next phase of the crisis really intensified when it became apparent that Ireland's housing boom had turned to bust. People thought Greece is the problem as long as we insulate it, we're fine. And it suddenly said, well actually this can move to Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy because suddenly any country with bad debt dynamics we have to think that that's a possible loss, so we have to be very careful about buying those bonds. By the time Greece, and then Spain and Portugal were also in trouble, there were questions starting to arise about Italy. It is a much bigger country, it has the third largest bond market in the world. The first time that the European debt crisis washed up on Italy's shores was in November 2010. That was the first time when we really saw the spreads between Italian bonds and their German equivalents soar. For Berlusconi, it is possible that he has done both as he has used political power to escape conviction and save his companies from bankruptcy but have also stated that "as prime minister, I have never had the feeling that I was in power" which infers that he is constantly pursuing power. Furthermore, the above statement is untrue as Berlusconi has misused his political power multiple times throughout the past two decades to give himself an advantage. • 38. Female Characters In Lavinia Lavinia is a female character who has shown up in many texts throughout history. In Titus Livius' (Livy), The History of Rome, the role of women is consistently downplayed and is overshadowed by men craving power through conquest and war during the evolution of Rome. Livy briefly mentions Lavinia in the second chapter of the first book in The History of Rome, "The Aborigines and Trojans were soon after attacked together in war.Turnus, king of the Rutulians, to whom Lavinia had been affianced before the coming of Aeneas..." (Livy I, 2). Livy does not describe Lavinia's character or tell us anything more about her. The character of Lavinia is suppressed by the overwhelming masculinity of male characters in their conquest for power and is presented to us only as a supplement to her male counterparts. In Smethurst's article analyzing Livy's characterization of women, "A woman may even cause trouble unintentionally, since her fateful gift of beauty can induce a man to neglect his most solemn duty, devotion to the State" (Smethurst, 83). This quote implies that a woman, and more specifically Lavinia, is nothing but a distraction to a man and his important duties and obligations to his beloved Rome.
