My Grandfather Interview
The moment I was informed about this oral history report, only one person came to my mind when
deciding who to compose this project about. This person was my grandfather. He was an inspiration
in my life. This project has given me the opportunity to reflect back onto my grandfather's stories
and historical accomplishments for on March 19, 2012 was the day my grandfather Richard "Joel"
Pettingell left this earth. There was no such thing as a dull moment in my grandfather's life. The
time I got to spend with my grandfather filled my head with only a faction of the life he lived. To
help elaborate on the high lights of my grandfather's historical moments, I interviewed my uncle
James Pettingell. During the interview we chronologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allowed him to focus on studies while still being able to live out one of his dreams of being a
cowboy on his own ranch. He graduated from Colorado State University with three bachelor degrees
in engineering, physics, and mathematics. This lead him back into the class rooms where he tried to
become a mathematics professor. Although is knowledge surpassed the requirements of being an
excellent professor, this career was not meant for his life. He could not be trapped in a class room
for he needed to apply his skills out in the world to pursue his true passions. In his time out in
Colorado, he started his own small Western theme park. One of the highlights of the park was an
original stream train that ran down a one–mile train track which he hand–laid himself. Complaining
was not associated with my grandfather's life, unless the thought about him laying the one mile of
train tracks surfaced in a conversation. The reason being; it was the most excruciating project he had
ever accomplished. "After living out west, how did my grandfather continue his life when he moved
east?" As the years passed he eventually sold the amusement park only to move east in 1967 where
he became the curator of the Resnick Motor Museum in Ellenville New York. The Motor Museum

In an Antique Land Essay
In Amitav Ghosh's, "In an Antique Land", the author compares his life with that of a slave named
Bomma. He reveals that both men live in antique lands, foreign to their culture and surrounded by
very different people. Ghosh also relates the book to Percy Bysshe Shelly's poem Ozymandias, a
piece on mankind's hubris and the insignificance of the individual. Ghosh effectively juxtaposes
Bomma's life with his own as he tries to find himself and unlock the slaves past through the ancient
papers of the Cairo Geniza. Through historical details and antidotes, the author proves how a place
can be both antique and contemporary. The title of the book comes from not only Ghosh's study of
the history of the Middle East, but his observation on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His religion is a constant reminder of how he is an outcast yet he is also judging the culture he feels
is criticizing him. He sees them as outdated and disapproving while they see him as unusual and
mysterious. He is criticized for his religion and customs, and the children mock him in disbelief for
being Hindu. One little boy comments on his amazement with this foreign culture:
"You mean," he said in rising disbelief, "there are people in your country who are not circumcised?"
In Arabic the word "circumcise" derives from a root that means
"to purify"; to say of someone that they are "uncircumcised" is more or less to call them impure.
"Yes," I answered, "yes, many people in my country are
‘impure'." I had no alternative; I was trapped by language." (62)
This is just one example of how Ghosh is treated as an outcast in the small town of no one of the
small religion. He does not fully understand the language or culture that surrounds him, which
causes even further confusion among the parties. This relates back to Shelly's poem because both the
visitor and the "ancient" are being observed and criticized.
While Ghosh realizes that the town will never respect why he worships cows or burns the dead, he
desperately tries to analyze the town he lives in. As he buries his head in letters from Ben Yiju, he
slowly puts together the relationship between

Essay on My Grandmother
My Grandmother
This poem explores the relationship between the speaker and her grandmother. It focuses on the
remorse and guilt she felt – and perhaps does still feel – about the way she behaved towards her on
one occasion, and can be seen as an attempt to exorcise this.
The poem is divided into four parts: the first stanza describes her grandmother working in the shop;
the second the incident which causes her guilt; the third stanza shows her in retirement. In the final
stanza, after her grandmother has died, the speaker reflects on herself and her grandmother's life.
The first stanza sets the scene – the antique shop reflects the character and life of the grandmother.
The words 'it kept her' suggest that it seems, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, beneath the images of polish, silver and brass lies someone who can be 'hurt', who feels
though never speaks about how she feels, and who comes to be
'frail'; the poem deals with the speaker's complex response to this realisation. The grandmother's life
is bound up with the antiques even after she no longer keeps the shop. They accompany her to the
'long, narrow room' in which she essentially waits to die. This third stanza is full of unattractive
images – shadows, the smell of absence, things too long shut up – yet the speaker still has to
acknowledge that, to her grandmother, they represent 'all her best things'. This imagery sums up the
lfe of a person who has been defined by her antiques – 'the smell of absences' suggests the memories
that the grandmother attaches to these objects, but it also hints at an unfulfilled existence, while
'the shadows.../ That can't be polished' suggest the grandmother's loss of her habitual control as she
nears death (a state itself often associated with shadow), and are a disturbingly vague image.
In the poem's final image, 'the new dust falling through the air',
Jennings economically suggests the grandmother's joining of the antiques she devoted her life to.
But this image simultaneously reminds us of her absence from the room

Halloween Essay : The Night Before Halloween
The Night before Halloween It was a hot, warm, nice day. The Wind blew calmly through trees. Not
a thing was out of place. Hanayia lived on 5th Avenue. Beautiful houses, nice people, perfect life.
Hanayia had the second biggest room in the house. She was a happy little girl. She gets everything
she wants because she is an only child. Not a worry in the world. It was the day before Halloween
and Hanayia was preparing her costume. She was going to be a zombie bride. She had bought a
white dress with a tiara from an antique shop.
She was going to enter the Halloween competition with her best friend Assiralc for best dressed.
It was going to be in a haunted house. She was so excited to enter the competition that she spent
over 100 dollars for the tiara and dress, but really the tiara was 85 dollars and the dress was only 15
dollars. She had no idea why the tiara was so much but she decided to buy it because her costume
had to be perfect. The day passed by and it was time to get ready for the Halloween party. She got
ready and headed out of the house. She had a liitle bit of trouble getting the tiara to stay on her head
which was really confusing. Her mom told her to be careful and be back by 12:12 pm. Her
Mom knew she would listen because she was a good kid and trusted her. Her mom was partly
worried because when she was younger, her and her friend got stuck in a Halloween maze and could
not get out until 3 hours. Her friend Assiralc picked

Analysis Of Alice Gibson-Watt's 'Antiques Roads Show'
Alice Gibson–Watt had just given birth to her daughter, Chiara Charlotte in October 2012. While the
"Antiques Roadshow" member should have been enjoying her first month of motherhood with her
husband, Anthony Gibson–Watt, her life drastically changed. The jewelry expert suddenly began
suffering from a condition described as postpartum psychosis following the birth of her child,
according to the Mirror. The condition can cause women to have hallucinations and feel paranoid. A
month after her baby was born, Alice was dead. She died from internal bleeding and a ruptured liver
after being restrained by an emergency team during severe panic attack. The inquest will determine
if the restraints had anything to do with the 34–year–old's death. Alice's

The Secret At The Antique Store
The Secret at the Antique Store
My grandfather had been working in his old antique shop since before he and my grandmother got
married. He had tons of antiques from I don 't even know what age. On the weekends, I would help
him run the shop, but one day, I had to work longer than I expected, for my grandfather had gotten
an emergency call from the hospital. This is where my story begins. I had been working at the shop
all day with the occasional ring of the front door bell. In total, I had four customers. When I was
about to close the shop for the day, I noticed the old box in the corner. One of its drawers was open.
I went to close it and remembered seeing it before, when I was five or six. As I got older, I had
thought somebody must of bought it and forgotten about it. Curiousity overtook me. The box had a
unique design of swirls and circles. It also included gears inside the top drawer. It was fascinating. I
closed the drawers and finished closing down shop. My plans for the next day were on my mind.
The next morning, I woke up to the bright sun peeking through my curtains. Immediately, I got
dressed and headed for the shop, eager to get there. As I walked to the front door, it was locked. I
thought my grandfather would 've been there already. Instantly, I knew where he was. The word
"hospital" flooded my mind. I opened the door to the shop and the first thing I saw was that same
antique box. Once again, its drawers were open. I went to check

The Priceless Treasure By Peggy Bacon
In the illustration "The Priceless Find (Antique Shop)", the artist Peggy Bacon is satirizing the idea
of an antique by both emphasizing the idea of beauty and rarity which is considered directly with an
antique as well as point out the literal definition of an "antique". The artwork, created in 1943, was
made in a time where America was preoccupied World War II. This historical detail allows the
viewer furthermore to understating the reason why Bacon chose to point out the absurdity of
antiques. Before we can look at Bacon's message, I must first state why the artwork is a humorous
account of a real life event. This illustration was created two years after Peggy Bacon divorced her
husband Alexander Brooks (Meng, 18). Though it could be plausible that the antique shop could
symbolize of her broken marriage, argued with crackled paint, shattered mirror, and dark
atmosphere, but Bacon is a realist (Tarbell, 32). Peggy Bacon was documented in an interview to
never create scenes and caricatures but simply draw from her surroundings. Therefore making up a
scene to symbolize an event in her life is not valid. As to why the artwork is a satirical
representation of the real scene, I derived this from both Bacons love of satire created during her
studies at the Arts Student League and from an excerpt taken from an interview with Bacon. In this
interview, Bacon stated the main purpose of a caricature is to heighten the absurdity of its quality
(Meng, 18). Though plausible this could

Poehler Antique Mall In Empori Unpacking The Object
1. Unpacking the Object
What is this object? An antique wooden chair
What does the object look like? Antique, old, worn wood. There are curvy edges on the backrest
portion. The wood is very worn on the seat part, and there is a lot of dust on the chair. The right side
of the chair is broken in a jagged break.
Where did you obtain this object? I found this at the Poehler Antique Mall in Emporia, KS. The
antique mall is located on Commercial Street.
Where can you find similar objects? At this antique store, there were tons of old chairs. You could
find more there. I would assume that a lot of antique stores have old pieces of furniture like this
chair. There are probably a lot of these types of chairs in older style homes. They could be found in
table and chair sets, or they could be possibly found in a church.
What is it made of? Wood and screws.
Who made it? Back in history the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this object because I like "upcycling." Taking old antique items and turning them into
something more modern and useful. I think restoring an object and making it personal to yourself.
Who or what does this object represent? I think this object represents middle class people. Often the
middle class is overlooked and are considered "average." This chair is overlooked too because it is a
piece of furniture that almost everyone has, and we don't often think about how the chair got there or
how the chair was made. I think this is similar with a lot of people in the world. Many people go
unnoticed. I hope that by adding color to this old chair, will be like the colorful personalities many
people have, which makes them stand out above others.
What does this object mean to you? I became invested in this chair, I spent a lot of time and money
on this project. I hope the chair will add a new style to my room. It means something special to me
because I took something old and gave it a new look, but the object still does the same

The Trade in Art, Fine Art, Antiques and Antiquities and...
The trade in art, fine art, antiques and antiquities is not portrayed as a violent crime or illicit market
and generally does not come off as a threat to international security. However, because of the large,
increasing demand for antiquities, politically unstable source nations rich with cultural artifacts are
exploited, prompting illicit activity in the clandestine art world, which is becoming an increasing
concern. Terrorist organizations profit from the large financial volume of such low risk, high profit
illicit activities and engage in cultural erosion that leaves the source nations weak in cultural
identity. This in turn, allows terrorist groups the advantage of pursuing and shaping ideological
notions in such volatile nations. The illicit, clandestine art market is also a unique market in which
to create backdoor channels to organized crime, weapon trafficking and narcotic smuggling trade
routes.
The art market is attracting attention due to some of the recent, notably high sales prices;
unfortunately, such a profitable return rate from art sales provides enticement for terrorist groups to
participate. The link of terrorism turns the subject of cultural property from a disputable matter in
foreign relations to a matter with significant implications pertaining to international security. Local
laborers, eager to provide a living for their family, have no qualms about looting cultural artifacts
and selling them to make a profit. The network between laborers, dealers,

I Have A Love Of Two Things : Music And Classic Cars
I have always had a love of two things: music and classic cars. It was of no surprise that I purchased
my first muscle car at the age of 17. It was a 1973 Mach I Mustang. In 1999 I began employment at
Bob's Auto Body in Rochester, Minnesota. I was a general shop assistant that was responsible for
cleaning of the shop, maintenance of equipment as needed, and assisting the auto body technicians.
Within six months I had applied and been accepted to Wyoming Technical Institute (WyoTech) in
Laramie Wyoming with the goal of obtaining the knowledge necessary for restoring classic cars to
even better than their original condition. I attended WyoTech from 2000–2001 and graduated with
an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Collision Refinishing Technology with minors in Trim
and Upholstery Technology and Applied Service Management. I returned to Bob's Auto Body upon
graduation to start my dream of car restoration in 2001. It was not long after graduation that the car
restoration business took a hit. Customers either could not afford the high cost of car restoration or
they were looking for a classic car in its original condition. Due to low work volume and a growing
family, I transitioned to the Collision and Refinishing Department of Adamson Motors of Rochester,
Minnesota, in September of 2003. This position involved the repair of vehicles involved in motor
vehicle accidents being repaired through insurance companies or private pay. I was responsible for

being exploited every day in the media and transfixed to fit unattainable standards while still being
paid less. The song Not Your Way by Misterwives explores this exploitation of women and and how
modern women may not be fighting to have power over men but power over themselves. Similar to
the poem From The Antique written by Christina Rossetti has explored the same theme back in the

Tuberculosis : An Antique, Deadly Infectious Disease...
Introduction
Tuberculosis is an antique, deadly infectious disease caused by the bacterium baccilus
Mycobacterium tuberculosis1. In 2014, a DNA reconstruction study of tuberculosis genome
suggested that human tuberculosis is much younger than what was initially thought2. Rather than
tracing its origins back to more than 10,000 years ago3,4, this study speculated the origins of human
tuberculosis to be around 6,000 years ago2. The first archaeological records of tuberculosis can be
traced back to ancient Egyptian arts and mummies, in which signs of Pott's disease (a type of spinal
tuberculosis) have been observed5,6. Ever since, numerous incidents of tuberculosis have been

Epidemiology, transmission, diagnostic tools
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one–third of the world population is or has
been infected with M. tuberculosis8. While this rate appears to be exceptionally high, only a few of
the infected end up developing active tuberculosis in their lifetime. Most of the infected people have
the inactive form (latent tuberculosis infection LTBI) of tuberculosis that poses no immediate
problems.
Despite numerous encounters throughout human history, tuberculosis still remains one of the biggest
causes of death from infectious disease8. Recent estimates from the WHO report that there were 9.0
million new cases of tuberculosis in 2013, while 1.5 million people that carried tuberculosis
infection died in the same year8. Regardless of advances in vaccination, tuberculosis remains a
disease of poverty that is commonly observed in regions characterized by urban, overcrowdedness,
and malnutrition10. Accordingly, cases of tuberculosis are not spread uniformly across the globe.

Blow–Up, his second colored film, investigates how man deals with the flux even though he is
separated from it. The viewer is first introduced to downtown London. A grayish–black jeep,
teeming with shouting young adults, crawls over a cobble stone hill into a gray blue sky and turns
the corner. The jeep reappears in a wide street, young adults, painted as mimes, pour from the
vehicle and flood the road. A small group passes by the protagonist Thomas, who hands one begging
girl a crumpled bill from the back seat of his car. The camera attaches to Thomas, and the viewer
stares down at him as he drives through a tunnel. Unlike L'Eclisse, Thomas is immediately depicted
as a moving factor in the flux of reality. The viewer knows his landscape before they know him, and
Antonioni tells the viewer they will not know Thomas when the viewer does not see the jeep turn a

suggests Thomas is a man who functions in human utility and even the viewer, who Antonioni does

After the brief moment of sobriety in American history called prohibition, beer companies reached
out to MLB franchises asking to endorse their teams. Many of these brewing companies were
regional. The New York Mets, for example, went into an advertising partnership with the regional
Knickerbocker beer. The introduction of beer endorsements paved the way for advertisements in
every nook and cranny of the ballpark. During the prohibition era, MLB teams began to have their
games broadcasted over radio, but after the 21st amendment was created, baseball broadcasters
began to have their beer endorsements advertise on their broadcast. Furthermore, brewing
companies used TV to broadcast advertisements once baseball teams began a widespread use of it.
Many brewing companies even used former players to advertise. A Miller Lite commercial used
retired players like Boog Powell to advertise their brand. Thus, once prohibition was over brewing
companies began an aggressive advertising campaign across the MLB. In addition, some brewing
companies cut out the middleman and bought teams themselves. There is a long history of brewing

The author states about how Townley had certain standards like he did not desire the statues made of
marbles to be grind to make the statues look smooth or damaged (Scott 200). Unlike Townley, those
Englishmen, who were connoisseurs during Napoleonic era, bought any art works that were called
or claimed antique even if the prices were ridiculously high. Moreover, Townley made museum like
homes to share his interest of antique arts with other citizens and fellow enlightened men. Also, he
carefully planned and placed art works/statues in his house to make them look more aesthetically
pleasing and balanced. On the other hand, British connoisseurs did not care about the placement of
the statues, but only cared to have the statues to show that they are upper–class or connoisseurs who
collect valuable antique art works (Scott 209). Author expresses the contrasts of the collecting

Descriptive Essay About Hot Chocolate
Scurrying along the copper colored brick road, people moved their way through the crowd. My
family and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market.
Tourists crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my
weight and waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop.
"How much longer?" I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at
sluggish speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided
that me and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop,
we were welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats.
The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we
spotted a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we
passed, its eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her
arm, looked back and quickened her walking speed.
Trying to catch up, I yelled, "Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast?" She grabbed my
hand and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the
exterior for the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled.
She looked back at me and looked as if she had seen a ghost. She said four words.
"The statue is gone."
Looking through the crowd, her eyes swept over

Prepared For: Professor Leslie Beck By: Gabriela Popescu ID: 260224311 June 17, 2010. Six
months ago, Antiques R Us (a Canadian corporation) entered into a contract with Yankee Antiques
(an American company) to purchase "a desk used by George Washington himself after his retirement

For each separate scenario identified, a suitable course of action has been constructed that best
encompasses the strategy stated above. Preliminary Step The authenticity of the desk is the first
issue that needs to be resolved: the validity of the contract is contingent upon this sole factor and
any following measures to resell the desk cannot be made without proof of authenticity. However,
before any tests can be conducted, Antiques R Us must, in good faith, fully disclose the situation and
their thoughts on the matter to Yankee Antiques. In trying to maintain good relations with the valued
supplier, a letter should be made in writing to Yankee Antiques outlining the doubts and concerns
raised by the third party and ask them to provide proof of authenticity. This crucial preliminary step
is justified by the following reasons: 1. Full disclosure acts as a letter of intent in this situation; it
explains that Antiques R Us still has faith in Yankee Antiques, but that pursuant to the terms of our
contract and the request of our client, we have no choice but to require proof of authenticity. In
attempting to honour the contract, any delay in performing our obligations will not be made in bad
faith. 2. If the situation is brought to court, Antiques R Us has proof that an attempt was made to
inform Yankee Antiques about the authenticity issue. 3. If

A Spring Morning at Grandma’s Antique Shop Essay
The sun catches on the many colors of transparent glass: Forest green, cobalt blue, peachy pink, and
amber yellow forms a surrealistic prism around the room. In the swirling colors, Victorian dolls
dance. This is the image that comes to mind when I think of a spring morning at Grandma's Antique
Shop.
Gravel crunches as I walk toward the old gray house. Above the steps is a baby blue sign that reads
"Todd's Treasures," a hoe and rake form a pyramid over the sign. The steps are wooden and give
gently with each quick step I take. The sleigh bells on the door jingles as I open it calling, "Hello
Grandma." My voice echoes and Grandma says hello from wherever she is, usually the desk.
The smell of cinnamon gently envelops me as I step ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the window behind the desk are things that are not for sell; these are the most treasured of "Todd's
Treasures," and any family members who visit are sure to study each item. A poster that once hung
in the Post Office, where Grandma's Grandmother worked, proclaims "Davis Auction Bulletin." In a
small frame is a dirty red, white, and blue ribbon on it is "July 4,1912 Veteran 1861–65." This
ribbon was awarded to my Great Great Great Grandfather, a confederate veteran on the fourth of
July in 1912. A yellowed newspaper clipping states "Game Warden wounded in gun battle." A black
and white photograph of an old black couple is sitting in the windowsill, and a large black and white
picture of a family reunion sits hangs on the wall.
Near the desk are two chairs, where you can sit and talk to Grandma. Down the middle of the room
are three wash stands. On the back one, is a gold Candelabra with angels who hold crystals. Jewelry,
pocket watches, arrowheads, old coins, confederate bills, and a tin top are in the display case. On top
of it is a tin toy train. It is painted yellow, green, blue and red. Behind the display case, are boards
where necklaces and earrings hang.
Most of the shelves in this room contain glass items. There are milk white pieces throughout the
room; they were produced through the 50's and into the 70's by a potting company in Ohio. There is
a beautiful collection of panel grape; grapevines grow all over the white panels of

Love Collection Research Paper
Love is the key to collecting anything be it antiques or beanie babies. When you love the things you
collect, you feel a passion that encourages you to spend your money, time and energy adding to and
caring for your collection. Begin your collection with pieces you love. The first step to collecting is
to find something you love and want to surround yourself with. A healthy and inspiring collection is
one you will want to live with for years to come. The exact nature of your collection is up to you.
Choose art or furniture of a particular period or style or select an item that is representative of
meaning in your life. Consider collecting teddy bears like the first one your mother gave you or
elephant figurines after one sparked your interest at a flea market. You might have to take a look
around your home and find that a collection has already started. Look for the things you love then

Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle
With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it 's hard not to start thinking
about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for
getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than
others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your
goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships
will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehicles out on the lot. If you 're simply
looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last
year that haven 't sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year 's model. Shopping
during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is
historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are
focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to
come to their bottom–dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making
negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is
also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can
also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is
because the

Analysis Of Out Of The Attic By Briann G. Greenfield
Likewise, many historians consider the importance of studying the Colonial Revival from a material
culture lens. Alan Axelrod articulates, "Objects play a central role in the processes of the Colonial
Revival." Similarly, Briann G. Greenfield's Out of the Attic: Inventing Antiques in Twentieth–
Century New England, suggests an extension of this idea of the centrality of objects. It is, in effect, a
celebration of material culture as it relates to a larger historical context. Greenfield effectively
describes the evolution of historical and aesthetic use of antiques from the 1900's onward. Acts of
collecting, selling, and displaying the antiques are points of interest in her collection of essays. She

Chapter three presents Jessie Barker Gardner and George Gardner as twentieth century antique
collectors based in Providence New England. The couple were small time, middle–class antique
collectors. They were interested in the philanthropic area of collecting. The Gardner's sought to
make a connection between the collegiate space and the museum. Eventually, the Gardner's donated
many of their most prized collectables to Brown University. They implemented very crafty and
effective sales techniques. Their goal was to "subvert the market and capture the antiques at bargain
prices." Though Jessie and George Gardner relished the pursuit of collecting and philanthropy, it
was almost always about the profitability. This discussion offers a connection to Thomas
Denenberg's use of Wallace Nutting. Like Nutting, the Gardner's excelled in a plethora of marketing
techniques and entrepreneurship. She further links the importance of consumer culture that
Denenberg alludes too. Chapter four is devoted Henry Flynt and his efforts in historic preservation
and antiques in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He, too, believed that historic objects reflected American
patriotism. He criticized Williamsburg and Deerfield as being "restored or preserved villages."
Conversely, under his direction, Deerfield, Massachusetts became a "natural preservation." This
chapter further mentions companies

The Importance Of Western Hegemony In An Antique Land
What exactly is western hegemony? This question can be easily answered with a couple of minutes
using google. To save your time though I will answer it for you. Hegemony is defined as, "the
social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group" (Merriam–
Webster). Western hegemony is the west exerting hegemony on the east. This has been an ongoing
theme for some time now. The west is considered more advanced or better than other countries. This
is in the heads of the people of the east at all times as they compare themselves to the west. In An
Antique Land is a book written by an Indian writer, Amitav Ghosh, in the year of 1992. The book
has two main stories throughout it. This provides for a very interesting read. It goes back and forth
between Ghosh and his anthropological adventure in Egypt and in ancient documents covering Ben
Yuji and his slave Bomma that were alive in the 12th century. Ghosh switches the views usually
through different chapters and it is easy to follow from where he left off from each side. Ghosh lives
with Islamic Egyptians and studies them and how they live while learning more about their view of
the west and its hegemony. This book is full of evidence of western hegemony on the account of
Amitav Ghosh and his acquaintances while he is in Egypt. He expresses many different scenes in the
book that display Egyptian view's of the western culture and military power. With their view comes
all sorts of misconceptions and

Case Study Of Dobbs Wholesale Antique
Under the terms of FOB shipping point, Dobbs Wholesale Antiques should record the sale when the
merchandise leaves their warehouse. And, if Dobbs Wholesale Antiques usually ships approximately
one week after receiving the order, they should continue to do this no matter what the "profits" look
like for the period. I worked for a corporation that would do this on a monthly basis depending on
their numbers because they didn't want to report to much of a profit for the month and, of course,
did not want their numbers to be short. If Dobbs Wholesale Antiques wants to boost their profits,
they can ship earlier than usual and likely not attract any attention by doing so. But, I believe that if

Looking At The Late Antique World
"Looking at the Late Antique world," writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late
Antiquity, "we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited
acclamation of new growth." Brown's work covers the years 150–750 AD a period of time too often
– and mistakenly – labeled as the "dark ages." Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he
challenges what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquity was one of "decline
and fall." This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the
narratives of the "barbarian invasions" that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were
no barbarian invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had
already started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the
"fall of Rome" as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of
Brown. Where some historians see decay, he sees growth.
Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff
evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and
bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception
of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to – and seems to continue
today – a debate between "modernist" and "primitivist." While Brown does not deal with this

A Hero : A Comparison Of A Hero
Heroes
My opinion of a hero is that they need to be selfless. They need to be the type of people that are
willing to risk everything for that one person. A hero is more than just bravery and kindness. They
put others first, but most importantly they protect others from going down a path that they once were
on. Heroes are everywhere, on the streets, in a library, or even a boxing ring. The heroes I chose
today are Taylor Winston and Jenn Lewis, Aaron Valencia, and a man named Khail Sweeney. The
first heroes I chose are Taylor Winston and Jenn Lewis. During the attack at Las Vegas they seized a
truck nearby to take critically injured people to the hospital. They made two to three trips before the
ambulance ever arrived. Winston and Lewis transported almost 35 people that night. Winston stayed
and continued to help the survivors. He stated "I could have easily gone back to San Diego in my
safe little area with everyone I know and forget this all happened, but I'd rather be here and help out
the best I can and not run from it" My second hero is named Aaron Valencia. Aaron grew up in
poverty, raised by his mother who was in an abusive relationship. Aaron Valencia had a rough
childhood through his teen year which included jail time. His wake–up call was when he woke up in
the park and realized he had no place to go or sleep. He went to rehab in 1999, when he got out he
started restoring classic cars. Valencia now owns his very own shop in Lancaster, California. Some

The And Object Of Annexation
Several issues can occur when purchasing land. For example, Alfie is concerned with fixtures and
chattels. Roxie's dilemma is concerned with conveyancing process and proprietary estoppel.
Fixtures and chattels are difficult to determine because there opposing opinions which contradict
one another. Nevertheless, the "degree and object of annexation" test can help determine the status
of an item. This essay will evaluate the items to see whether they are fixtures or chattels whilst,
demonstrating how the burden of proof can show otherwise. In relation to Roxie, this essay will
demonstrate the problems that can occur during the conveyancing process and how proprietary
estoppel can be used to protect an individual's interests.
In regards to the different items, Peggy may argue that these items were personal property. If they
were, Alfie has no right to claim these items. However, if the items have become part of the land,
they are fixtures. Alfie would be able to claim these items if they were fixtures because when land is
transferred, it is transferred with all the fixtures that are not expressly excluded. This is supported by
legislation "A conveyance of land shall be deemed to include and shall by virtue of this Act operate
to convey, with the land...fixtures" Peggy has completed a contract; therefore she is not entitled to
remove the fixtures. The contract transfers the legal and equitable ownership of the land to Alfie.
Unfortunately, determining whether an item is a

My Grandfather Interview

  • 1. My Grandfather Interview The moment I was informed about this oral history report, only one person came to my mind when deciding who to compose this project about. This person was my grandfather. He was an inspiration in my life. This project has given me the opportunity to reflect back onto my grandfather's stories and historical accomplishments for on March 19, 2012 was the day my grandfather Richard "Joel" Pettingell left this earth. There was no such thing as a dull moment in my grandfather's life. The time I got to spend with my grandfather filled my head with only a faction of the life he lived. To help elaborate on the high lights of my grandfather's historical moments, I interviewed my uncle James Pettingell. During the interview we chronologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allowed him to focus on studies while still being able to live out one of his dreams of being a cowboy on his own ranch. He graduated from Colorado State University with three bachelor degrees in engineering, physics, and mathematics. This lead him back into the class rooms where he tried to become a mathematics professor. Although is knowledge surpassed the requirements of being an excellent professor, this career was not meant for his life. He could not be trapped in a class room for he needed to apply his skills out in the world to pursue his true passions. In his time out in Colorado, he started his own small Western theme park. One of the highlights of the park was an original stream train that ran down a one–mile train track which he hand–laid himself. Complaining was not associated with my grandfather's life, unless the thought about him laying the one mile of train tracks surfaced in a conversation. The reason being; it was the most excruciating project he had ever accomplished. "After living out west, how did my grandfather continue his life when he moved east?" As the years passed he eventually sold the amusement park only to move east in 1967 where he became the curator of the Resnick Motor Museum in Ellenville New York. The Motor Museum held over $1,000,000 worth of auto collectables. Summer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. In an Antique Land Essay In Amitav Ghosh's, "In an Antique Land", the author compares his life with that of a slave named Bomma. He reveals that both men live in antique lands, foreign to their culture and surrounded by very different people. Ghosh also relates the book to Percy Bysshe Shelly's poem Ozymandias, a piece on mankind's hubris and the insignificance of the individual. Ghosh effectively juxtaposes Bomma's life with his own as he tries to find himself and unlock the slaves past through the ancient papers of the Cairo Geniza. Through historical details and antidotes, the author proves how a place can be both antique and contemporary. The title of the book comes from not only Ghosh's study of the history of the Middle East, but his observation on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His religion is a constant reminder of how he is an outcast yet he is also judging the culture he feels is criticizing him. He sees them as outdated and disapproving while they see him as unusual and mysterious. He is criticized for his religion and customs, and the children mock him in disbelief for being Hindu. One little boy comments on his amazement with this foreign culture: "You mean," he said in rising disbelief, "there are people in your country who are not circumcised?" In Arabic the word "circumcise" derives from a root that means "to purify"; to say of someone that they are "uncircumcised" is more or less to call them impure. "Yes," I answered, "yes, many people in my country are ‘impure'." I had no alternative; I was trapped by language." (62) This is just one example of how Ghosh is treated as an outcast in the small town of no one of the small religion. He does not fully understand the language or culture that surrounds him, which causes even further confusion among the parties. This relates back to Shelly's poem because both the visitor and the "ancient" are being observed and criticized. While Ghosh realizes that the town will never respect why he worships cows or burns the dead, he desperately tries to analyze the town he lives in. As he buries his head in letters from Ben Yiju, he slowly puts together the relationship between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on My Grandmother My Grandmother This poem explores the relationship between the speaker and her grandmother. It focuses on the remorse and guilt she felt – and perhaps does still feel – about the way she behaved towards her on one occasion, and can be seen as an attempt to exorcise this. The poem is divided into four parts: the first stanza describes her grandmother working in the shop; the second the incident which causes her guilt; the third stanza shows her in retirement. In the final stanza, after her grandmother has died, the speaker reflects on herself and her grandmother's life. The first stanza sets the scene – the antique shop reflects the character and life of the grandmother. The words 'it kept her' suggest that it seems, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, beneath the images of polish, silver and brass lies someone who can be 'hurt', who feels though never speaks about how she feels, and who comes to be 'frail'; the poem deals with the speaker's complex response to this realisation. The grandmother's life is bound up with the antiques even after she no longer keeps the shop. They accompany her to the 'long, narrow room' in which she essentially waits to die. This third stanza is full of unattractive images – shadows, the smell of absence, things too long shut up – yet the speaker still has to acknowledge that, to her grandmother, they represent 'all her best things'. This imagery sums up the lfe of a person who has been defined by her antiques – 'the smell of absences' suggests the memories that the grandmother attaches to these objects, but it also hints at an unfulfilled existence, while 'the shadows.../ That can't be polished' suggest the grandmother's loss of her habitual control as she nears death (a state itself often associated with shadow), and are a disturbingly vague image. In the poem's final image, 'the new dust falling through the air', Jennings economically suggests the grandmother's joining of the antiques she devoted her life to. But this image simultaneously reminds us of her absence from the room ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Halloween Essay : The Night Before Halloween The Night before Halloween It was a hot, warm, nice day. The Wind blew calmly through trees. Not a thing was out of place. Hanayia lived on 5th Avenue. Beautiful houses, nice people, perfect life. Hanayia had the second biggest room in the house. She was a happy little girl. She gets everything she wants because she is an only child. Not a worry in the world. It was the day before Halloween and Hanayia was preparing her costume. She was going to be a zombie bride. She had bought a white dress with a tiara from an antique shop. She was going to enter the Halloween competition with her best friend Assiralc for best dressed. It was going to be in a haunted house. She was so excited to enter the competition that she spent over 100 dollars for the tiara and dress, but really the tiara was 85 dollars and the dress was only 15 dollars. She had no idea why the tiara was so much but she decided to buy it because her costume had to be perfect. The day passed by and it was time to get ready for the Halloween party. She got ready and headed out of the house. She had a liitle bit of trouble getting the tiara to stay on her head which was really confusing. Her mom told her to be careful and be back by 12:12 pm. Her Mom knew she would listen because she was a good kid and trusted her. Her mom was partly worried because when she was younger, her and her friend got stuck in a Halloween maze and could not get out until 3 hours. Her friend Assiralc picked ... • 13. The Secret At The Antique Store The Secret at the Antique Store My grandfather had been working in his old antique shop since before he and my grandmother got married. He had tons of antiques from I don 't even know what age. On the weekends, I would help him run the shop, but one day, I had to work longer than I expected, for my grandfather had gotten an emergency call from the hospital. This is where my story begins. I had been working at the shop all day with the occasional ring of the front door bell. In total, I had four customers. When I was about to close the shop for the day, I noticed the old box in the corner. One of its drawers was open. I went to close it and remembered seeing it before, when I was five or six. As I got older, I had thought somebody must of bought it and forgotten about it. Curiousity overtook me. The box had a unique design of swirls and circles. It also included gears inside the top drawer. It was fascinating. I closed the drawers and finished closing down shop. My plans for the next day were on my mind. The next morning, I woke up to the bright sun peeking through my curtains. Immediately, I got dressed and headed for the shop, eager to get there. As I walked to the front door, it was locked. I thought my grandfather would 've been there already. Instantly, I knew where he was. The word "hospital" flooded my mind. I opened the door to the shop and the first thing I saw was that same antique box. Once again, its drawers were open. I went to check ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Priceless Treasure By Peggy Bacon In the illustration "The Priceless Find (Antique Shop)", the artist Peggy Bacon is satirizing the idea of an antique by both emphasizing the idea of beauty and rarity which is considered directly with an antique as well as point out the literal definition of an "antique". The artwork, created in 1943, was made in a time where America was preoccupied World War II. This historical detail allows the viewer furthermore to understating the reason why Bacon chose to point out the absurdity of antiques. Before we can look at Bacon's message, I must first state why the artwork is a humorous account of a real life event. This illustration was created two years after Peggy Bacon divorced her husband Alexander Brooks (Meng, 18). Though it could be plausible that the antique shop could symbolize of her broken marriage, argued with crackled paint, shattered mirror, and dark atmosphere, but Bacon is a realist (Tarbell, 32). Peggy Bacon was documented in an interview to never create scenes and caricatures but simply draw from her surroundings. Therefore making up a scene to symbolize an event in her life is not valid. As to why the artwork is a satirical representation of the real scene, I derived this from both Bacons love of satire created during her studies at the Arts Student League and from an excerpt taken from an interview with Bacon. In this interview, Bacon stated the main purpose of a caricature is to heighten the absurdity of its quality (Meng, 18). Though plausible this could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are curvy edges on the backrest portion. The wood is very worn on the seat part, and there is a lot of dust on the chair. The right side of the chair is broken in a jagged break. Where did you obtain this object? I found this at the Poehler Antique Mall in Emporia, KS. The antique mall is located on Commercial Street. Where can you find similar objects? At this antique store, there were tons of old chairs. You could find more there. I would assume that a lot of antique stores have old pieces of furniture like this chair. There are probably a lot of these types of chairs in older style homes. They could be found in table and chair sets, or they could be possibly found in a church. What is it made of? Wood and screws. Who made it? Back in history the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this object because I like "upcycling." I think this object represents middle class people. Often the middle class is overlooked and are considered "average." This chair is overlooked too because it is a piece of furniture that almost everyone has, and we don't often think about how the chair got there or how the chair was made. I think this is similar with a lot of people in the world. Many people go unnoticed. I hope that by adding color to this old chair, will be like the colorful personalities many people have, which makes them stand out above others. What does this object mean to you? • 19. The Trade in Art, Fine Art, Antiques and Antiquities and... The trade in art, fine art, antiques and antiquities is not portrayed as a violent crime or illicit market and generally does not come off as a threat to international security. However, because of the large, increasing demand for antiquities, politically unstable source nations rich with cultural artifacts are exploited, prompting illicit activity in the clandestine art world, which is becoming an increasing concern. Terrorist organizations profit from the large financial volume of such low risk, high profit illicit activities and engage in cultural erosion that leaves the source nations weak in cultural identity. This in turn, allows terrorist groups the advantage of pursuing and shaping ideological notions in such volatile nations. The illicit, clandestine art market is also a unique market in which to create backdoor channels to organized crime, weapon trafficking and narcotic smuggling trade routes. The art market is attracting attention due to some of the recent, notably high sales prices; unfortunately, such a profitable return rate from art sales provides enticement for terrorist groups to participate. The link of terrorism turns the subject of cultural property from a disputable matter in foreign relations to a matter with significant implications pertaining to international security. Local laborers, eager to provide a living for their family, have no qualms about looting cultural artifacts and selling them to make a profit. The network between laborers, dealers, ... • 21. I Have A Love Of Two Things : Music And Classic Cars I have always had a love of two things: music and classic cars. It was of no surprise that I purchased my first muscle car at the age of 17. It was a 1973 Mach I Mustang. In 1999 I began employment at Bob's Auto Body in Rochester, Minnesota. I was a general shop assistant that was responsible for cleaning of the shop, maintenance of equipment as needed, and assisting the auto body technicians. Within six months I had applied and been accepted to Wyoming Technical Institute (WyoTech) in Laramie Wyoming with the goal of obtaining the knowledge necessary for restoring classic cars to even better than their original condition. I attended WyoTech from 2000–2001 and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Collision Refinishing Technology with minors in Trim and Upholstery Technology and Applied Service Management. I returned to Bob's Auto Body upon graduation to start my dream of car restoration in 2001. It was not long after graduation that the car restoration business took a hit. Customers either could not afford the high cost of car restoration or they were looking for a classic car in its original condition. Due to low work volume and a growing family, I transitioned to the Collision and Refinishing Department of Adamson Motors of Rochester, Minnesota, in September of 2003. This position involved the repair of vehicles involved in motor vehicle accidents being repaired through insurance companies or private pay. I was responsible for my delegated workload as ... So how can protest poetry about women's rights be relevant? Well considering women are being exploited every day in the media and transfixed to fit unattainable standards while still being paid less. The song Not Your Way by Misterwives explores this exploitation of women and and how modern women may not be fighting to have power over men but power over themselves. Similar to the poem From The Antique written by Christina Rossetti has explored the same theme back in the 1800's. A grayish–black jeep, teeming with shouting young adults, crawls over a cobble stone hill into a gray blue sky and turns the corner. The jeep reappears in a wide street, young adults, painted as mimes, pour from the vehicle and flood the road. A small group passes by the protagonist Thomas, who hands one begging girl a crumpled bill from the back seat of his car. The camera attaches to Thomas, and the viewer stares down at him as he drives through a tunnel. Unlike L'Eclisse, Thomas is immediately depicted as a moving factor in the flux of reality. The viewer knows his landscape before they know him, and Antonioni tells the viewer they will not know Thomas when the viewer does not see the jeep turn a corner. The viewer is driving blindly into Thomas's story and will have to make conclusions based on separate pieces of information. They are further separated from Thomas because Antonioni gives us permission to figuratively judge him by literally looking down at him. Thomas's ground position suggests Thomas is a man who functions in human utility and even the viewer, who Antonioni does not know, is closer to reality than his character. My family and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market. Tourists crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my weight and waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop. "How much longer?" I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at sluggish speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided that me and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop, we were welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats. The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we spotted a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we passed, its eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her arm, looked back and quickened her walking speed. Trying to catch up, I yelled, "Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast?" She grabbed my hand and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the exterior for the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled. Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it 's hard not to start thinking about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehicles out on the lot. If you 're simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that haven 't sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year 's model. Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to their bottom–dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is, in effect, a celebration of material culture as it relates to a larger historical context. They were interested in the philanthropic area of collecting. The Gardner's sought to make a connection between the collegiate space and the museum. Eventually, the Gardner's donated many of their most prized collectables to Brown University. They implemented very crafty and effective sales techniques. Their goal was to "subvert the market and capture the antiques at bargain prices." Though Jessie and George Gardner relished the pursuit of collecting and philanthropy, it was almost always about the profitability. This discussion offers a connection to Thomas Denenberg's use of Wallace Nutting. Like Nutting, the Gardner's excelled in a plethora of marketing techniques and entrepreneurship. She further links the importance of consumer culture that Denenberg alludes too. Chapter four is devoted Henry Flynt and his efforts in historic preservation and antiques in Deerfield, Massachusetts. • 65. The Importance Of Western Hegemony In An Antique Land What exactly is western hegemony? This question can be easily answered with a couple of minutes using google. To save your time though I will answer it for you. Hegemony is defined as, "the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group" (Merriam– Webster). Western hegemony is the west exerting hegemony on the east. This has been an ongoing theme for some time now. The west is considered more advanced or better than other countries. This is in the heads of the people of the east at all times as they compare themselves to the west. In An Antique Land is a book written by an Indian writer, Amitav Ghosh, in the year of 1992. The book has two main stories throughout it. This provides for a very interesting read. It goes back and forth between Ghosh and his anthropological adventure in Egypt and in ancient documents covering Ben Yuji and his slave Bomma that were alive in the 12th century. Ghosh switches the views usually through different chapters and it is easy to follow from where he left off from each side. Ghosh lives with Islamic Egyptians and studies them and how they live while learning more about their view of the west and its hegemony. This book is full of evidence of western hegemony on the account of Amitav Ghosh and his acquaintances while he is in Egypt. He expresses many different scenes in the book that display Egyptian view's of the western culture and military power. With their view comes all sorts of misconceptions and ... • 69. Marketing Capstone My wife and I have developed a marketing plan for the opening of a new antique store in our neighborhood. There are three reasons we believe this will be a profitable opportunity. First, we both love antiques, and have learned a great deal about authenticating, pricing and conserving the value of these pieces. Next, we have business experience from our venture in consulting work. And thirdly, one of the major antique stores in our area has ceased operations. Develop a marketing plan for business We have completed our project in the city of Ashland, Kentucky. If our marketing research is favorable we will opt for a storefront building in the old downtown section of South Ashland. The reasons of the importance of this project ... The project had regular meetings with the team members. These meetings were used to evaluate the progress of the project. At these meetings we evaluated the project. We also discussed how to proceed in order to plan our upcoming activities. The first step was to develop a mission state for our business. This was critical because we needed to define exactly what business we were to be in. Next, we would find sources of information concerning the local economy and market. It was determined that we could use the internet and local business leaders to assist us in gaining the necessary information. For our next step we would conduct a traffic study to determine which blocks in our target area had the most favorable traffic patterns. After this, we researched the other antique dealers in our area to get an idea of their sales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Case Study Of Dobbs Wholesale Antique Under the terms of FOB shipping point, Dobbs Wholesale Antiques should record the sale when the merchandise leaves their warehouse. And, if Dobbs Wholesale Antiques usually ships approximately one week after receiving the order, they should continue to do this no matter what the "profits" look like for the period. I worked for a corporation that would do this on a monthly basis depending on their numbers because they didn't want to report to much of a profit for the month and, of course, did not want their numbers to be short. If Dobbs Wholesale Antiques wants to boost their profits, they can ship earlier than usual and likely not attract any attention by doing so. But, I believe that if you do not stick to a normal schedule for shipping, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Looking At The Late Antique World "Looking at the Late Antique world," writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late Antiquity, "we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited acclamation of new growth." Brown's work covers the years 150–750 AD a period of time too often – and mistakenly – labeled as the "dark ages." Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquity was one of "decline and fall." This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the "barbarian invasions" that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the "fall of Rome" as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown. Where some historians see decay, he sees growth. Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to – and seems to continue today – a debate between "modernist" and "primitivist." While Brown does not deal with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. A Hero : A Comparison Of A Hero Heroes My opinion of a hero is that they need to be selfless. They need to be the type of people that are willing to risk everything for that one person. A hero is more than just bravery and kindness. They put others first, but most importantly they protect others from going down a path that they once were on. Heroes are everywhere, on the streets, in a library, or even a boxing ring. The heroes I chose today are Taylor Winston and Jenn Lewis, Aaron Valencia, and a man named Khail Sweeney. The first heroes I chose are Taylor Winston and Jenn Lewis. During the attack at Las Vegas they seized a truck nearby to take critically injured people to the hospital. They made two to three trips before the ambulance ever arrived. Winston and Lewis transported almost 35 people that night. Winston stayed and continued to help the survivors. He stated "I could have easily gone back to San Diego in my safe little area with everyone I know and forget this all happened, but I'd rather be here and help out the best I can and not run from it" My second hero is named Aaron Valencia. Aaron grew up in poverty, raised by his mother who was in an abusive relationship. Aaron Valencia had a rough childhood through his teen year which included jail time. His wake–up call was when he woke up in the park and realized he had no place to go or sleep. He went to rehab in 1999, when he got out he started restoring classic cars. Valencia now owns his very own shop in Lancaster, California. Some of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The And Object Of Annexation Several issues can occur when purchasing land. For example, Alfie is concerned with fixtures and chattels. Roxie's dilemma is concerned with conveyancing process and proprietary estoppel. Fixtures and chattels are difficult to determine because there opposing opinions which contradict one another. Nevertheless, the "degree and object of annexation" test can help determine the status of an item. This essay will evaluate the items to see whether they are fixtures or chattels whilst, demonstrating how the burden of proof can show otherwise. In relation to Roxie, this essay will demonstrate the problems that can occur during the conveyancing process and how proprietary estoppel can be used to protect an individual's interests. In regards to the different items, Peggy may argue that these items were personal property. If they were, Alfie has no right to claim these items. However, if the items have become part of the land, they are fixtures. Alfie would be able to claim these items if they were fixtures because when land is transferred, it is transferred with all the fixtures that are not expressly excluded. This is supported by legislation "A conveyance of land shall be deemed to include and shall by virtue of this Act operate to convey, with the land...fixtures" Peggy has completed a contract; therefore she is not entitled to remove the fixtures. The contract transfers the legal and equitable ownership of the land to Alfie. Unfortunately, determining whether an item is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
