Who would distribute our product?
Overall I would say our film is a mainstream horror film that is aimed at the 15 +
audience, so it would suit production and distributors that where apart on the big 6 or
just below them to make sure the film would reach such a huge audience that
products with a similar baseline do. Films that I found in the same “slasher horror”
category that go by the blockbuster code are films like, “The Wrong Turn”,
“Halloween”, “SAW”, and “Friday The 13th” have all be distributed by one of the big 6.
The most commonly film institution in this genre of horror films is 20th Century Fox
and Paramount Pictures. So I would choose one of these to distribute our film.
Personally I would choose Paramount Pictures as the horror films that they have
distributed a lot of well known horror films that have reached a good audience, made
a huge profit and had good reviews after the film had been released. In the opening
weekend of Friday the 13th it received a profit of £1,198,653 (UK) and a overall made
a profit of $64,997,188 (USA)- even though that Friday The 13th was a remake so some
chosen audiences that liked the original version may not have seen the film. As a film
producer if my horror film reached that potential then I would be really happy. If
Paramount Pictures marketed my product then I want them to make sure it kept up
with all the digital technologies (such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) but
still also used traditional methods like trailers and posters in the cinema’s where it is
going to be released. This will unable the film to reach such a huge possible market
and should receive a huge profit like Friday The 13th did.
